Summary: CrossPolitic (Christ over Politics) Podcast and Show mixes the taboo formula of faith, culture, and politics in order to bring the clarity of the gospel into muddle America. We are a community of Christians who desire to see the Lordship of Christ in every corner of our culture, reigning over every politician, and changing every individual for our good and His glory. Our hosts are made up of pastors, deacons, filmmakers, and more, and long to see our nation once again recognize Jesus as the redeemer of our fallen nation. Our hosts interview notable public figures (including presidential candidates Senator Ted Cruz and Dr. Ben Carson), write books, preach at churches, make films, and utilize every avenue possible to declare the gospel of our Lord to our broken world.

Live on Facebook at 7pm Pacific time. Tune in now here! Don’t worry if you miss us live–you’ll still be able to download the show on your favorite podcast platform. Folks, there are two conferences coming up that we want you to be aware of: First, we are so excited about this year’s Grace Agenda conference, coming April 13th and 14th and titled “Enraging The Culture”. Like grace, the conference is free–you just have to get up here. We will be there and Toby will be speaking at the conference. The second is a worldview conference for high schoolers aged 14 to 19, in Moscow, Idaho. Called Conference is packed with speakers including Pastor Joe Rigney, Pastor Doug Wilson, syndicated radio host Steve Deace, Author/blogger Matt Walsh, and more. Early registration ends April 1st, so sign your kid up now! Show Notes This week we’re joined by Rev Dr. Joe Boot of the Ezra Institute and Westminster Chapel in Toronto.  The church in North America has had little impact on culture because she has equated loving with being nice. We are called to be light in a dark world, and that collision should and will enrage the culture. Dr. Boot will be speaking at the upcoming Grace Agenda conference. In CrossPolitic news, we continue to discuss the Florida school tragedy and why Sheriff Scott Israel is a covenantal coward. Live on Facebook at 7pm PAC time every Sunday night, tune in now here! Don’t worry if you miss us live–you’ll still be able to download the show on your favorite podcast platform. A couple housekeeping items. First, many of y’all have heard about the tragic high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. These tragedies are becoming more and more politicized, and so Pastor Toby wrote an article about dueling religions and why prayer is so important in these situations. Check it out on our CrossPolitic blog here. Second, we cannot thank our club members enough. We are truly grateful for your membership support, and would love for others to follow! Right now we are producing one show per week, and we have all sorts of ideas about producing more content. The quickest way to help this to happen is to join our membership club. Please click here for more info. We are adding corporate sponsors, ad partners and more, but your monthly membership provides monthly consistency for the future of CrossPolitic. Thanks for considering, and enjoy the show! Show Notes: This week we’re joined by Paul Taylor, Director of the Mount St. Helens Creation Center since October 2014, and also an author. Paul has been speaking on creation and apologetics for over 35 years. He taught science in public (government) schools in the UK for nearly 20 years. He has worked with ministries such as Answers in Genesis and Creation Today, and has spoken in Britain, Ireland, Europe, and across the United States, in churches and at conferences. He has authored nine books including The Six Days of Genesis, Itching Ears, and Don’t Miss the Boat. Paul recently wrote Only Believe, a simple and helpful book on defending your faith. Paul says of his book, “Apologetics is that branch of practical theology concerned with the defense of the Christian faith. Yet, I discovered that, for years, I had being doing apologetics wrong. It turned out that what I was defending was not really the Christian faith, but simply a form of theism. In this book, I introduce the concept of Presuppositional Apologetics, and examine it from Scripture. I have kept technical terms to a minimum, so that this should be just about the easiest to read book that you have ever found on the biblical way to defend your faith.” In CrossPolitic news, we discuss Maryland Community Church’s preference over principal regarding worship, and St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church’s “Renaming Ceremony” for their pastor, who has transitioned from female to male. Live on Facebook at 7pm Pacific time; tune in now here! Don’t worry if you miss us live–you’ll still be able to download the show on your favorite podcast platform. First, a couple housekeeping items. Trinity Reformed Church Epiphany Lectures are March 2nd and 3rd. Please note that NSA’s priority application deadline is coming up fast–February 15th! Show Notes: This week we’re joined by Hannah Grieser, author of The Clouds Ye So Much Dread. The Clouds Ye So Much Dread is a beautiful blend of memoir, theology, meditation, and storytelling. Each of these chapters–from dreading the birth of her first child, to living in unfamiliar and dangerous places, to facing the news that her son had been diagnosed with cancer–describes the stories through which Hannah has come to see that hard or uncertain circumstances, rather than being cause for doubt and dread, can instead become the unasked-for means that our loving Father uses to turn us toward Him and to show us His faithfulness. Told in Hannah’s graceful yet punchy prose, the reflections in this powerful book will challenge readers to revisit their own hard times and see how God can take the storms that we most fear and turn them into downpours of blessings. In CrossPolitic news, we discuss the recent FISA memo, all the shenanigans surrounding PI Christopher Steele, and Rand Paul’s resistance to the Senate’s proposed budget that was passed this last week. We are grateful to our sponsors, and encourage y’all to check them out. If y’all haven’t heard about Logos Online School, visit their website at www.logosonlineschool.com. As with all of our sponsors, tell them you found out about them on CrossPolitic. Show Notes: This week we’re joined by Fox and Friends host Brian Kilmeade. Brian just released his fifth book, Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans, co-written with Don Yaeger. The War of 1812 saw America threatened on every side. Encouraged by the British, Indian tribes attacked settlers in the West, while the Royal Navy terrorized the coasts. By mid-1814, President James Madison’s generals had lost control of the war in the North, losing battles in Canada. Then British troops set the White House ablaze, and a feeling of hopelessness spread across the country. Into this dire situation stepped Major General Andrew Jackson. A native of Tennessee who had witnessed the horrors of the Revolutionary War and Indian attacks, he was glad America had finally decided to confront repeated British aggression. But he feared that President Madison’s men were overlooking the most important target of all: New Orleans. In CrossPolitic news, we discuss DACA, what is it all about and what should the Christian response look like.  Black Yellow-Dogs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:11

Folks, for the month of December, we invite you to celebrate advent with us by joining our club membership! If you sign up as a club member during December, and as supplies last, we will send you a CrossPolitic magnetic bumper sticker and a CrossPolitic special edition t-shirt (this shirt is not for sale online)! Don’t forget to hit our store for your stocking stuffers and Christmas presents. Thanks for all your support, and Merry Christmas! Did you know that the first documented slave owner on American soil was a black man who owned a black man? For this episode, we interviewed Ben Kinchlow, author of Black Yellow-Dogs. Ben is a minister, broadcaster, author, and businessman, and is known throughout the world as the long-time Co-Host of The 700 Club, and Host of the International Edition of The 700 Club, as seen in more than 80 countries. From the 1800s through 1964, the democrats routinely fought against civil rights legislation. Why do they now get about 90% of the black vote? So much more to chase down in this interview, but we hope you find this thought-provoking. In CrossPolitic news, we discuss Chief Justice Sotomayor’s comments to the council during this past week’s hearing of the same-sex mirage case. Upcoming events to note: 1) CALLED Conference July 16th through 20th– a conference that will challenge Christian high school students to become the next generation of cultural leaders, because they are CALLED… → to put on the whole armor of God → to engage culture → to advance the Kingdom 2) Trinity Reformed Church Epiphany Lectures are March 2nd and 3rd. Followup website for details. 3) Grace Agenda: Enraging Culture April 13th and 14th in Moscow, Idaho. Register here!  The Gray Havens and Christians in the Music Business | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:47

Folks, during the month of December, we invite you to celebrate advent with us by joining our club membership! If you sign up as a club member during December, while supplies last, we will send you a CrossPolitic magnetic bumpersticker and a CrossPolitic special edition t-shirt (this shirt is not for sale online)! So Merry Christmas! For this episode, we had the pleasure of interviewing Dave Radford from the band The Gray Havens. The band centers around husband and wife Dave and Licia Radford. Since their debut in 2013, their projects have been hailed as “an imaginative treatment of faith…[having] a visionary quality that’s both playful and enraptured.” Releasing their debut EP on Noisetrade in 2013, and their first full-length album, Fire and Stone, in 2015, the duo has gained a steady following of listeners nationwide. This coming week, for a limited time, you will be able to get all their music for free on NoiseTrade. Download here! In the last segment we discuss Pastor Toby Sumpter’s book, Blood Bought World. If the Church is to rise up full of people who don’t give a damn about the fleeting pleasures of this life and who care only for the glory of Jesus and His Kingdom, we must once again grasp what made Jesus so eminently killable. If Jesus had been born in our day, the council that condemned Him would have included a couple of well-known evangelical pastors, a few outspoken pro-life leaders, a conservative-libertarian-leaning politician, and at least one Bible-thumping fundamentalist. Jesus was murdered by church people, for churchy reasons. This is a must-read! In CrossPolitic news, we discuss Matt Lauer’s fall from grace, and what God is doing in our morally bankrupt culture. Upcoming events to note: 1) CALLED Conference July 16th through 20th– a conference that will challenge Christian high school students to become the next generation of cultural leaders, because they are CALLED… → to put on the whole armor of God → to engage culture → to advance the Kingdom 2) Trinity Reformed Church Epiphany Lectures are February 8th and 9th. Followup website for details. 3) Grace Agenda: Enraging the Culture, April 13th and 14th in Moscow, Idaho. Register here!  Gender Reassignment Surgeries in Moscow/Pullman? Coming Soon to a Hospital Near You. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:32

Happy Thanksgiving! and sorry for dropping the podcast on Monday night. Don’t worry, it should be worth it. Gender reassignment surgeries are on the rise in our country. In 2014, Medicare removed a decades-long ban on coverage for the surgery. This has led to increased access, mostly on the taxpayer dime–about 90% of the surgeries are funded by Medicare. Both of our local hospitals, Gritman Medical Center and Pullman Regional Hospital, have elected to offer gender reassignment surgery. They are currently the only hospitals in the northwest to offer this surgery. Dr. Rod Story, a hospitalist at Pullman Regional, joins us in the studio to discuss how transgender patients struggle with a dysphoria similar to that of anorexia patients.  After his colleagues voted to award Dr. Story Pullman Regional’s Physician Excellence Award, his conscience led him to step down from his position and leave Pullman Regional Hospital, effective at the end of December.
