Gender Reassignment Surgeries in Moscow/Pullman? Coming Soon to a Hospital Near You.

Don’t worry, it should be worth it.</p> <p>Gender reassignment surgeries are on the rise in our country. <a href="http://time.com/4787914/transgender-gender-confirmation-surgery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In 2014, Medicare removed a decades-long ban on coverage for the surgery</a>. This has led to increased access, mostly on the taxpayer dime–about 90% of the surgeries are funded by Medicare.</p> <p>Both of our local hospitals, Gritman Medical Center and Pullman Regional Hospital, have elected to offer gender reassignment surgery. They are currently the only hospitals in the northwest to offer this surgery. Dr. Rod Story, a hospitalist at Pullman Regional, joins us in the studio to discuss how transgender patients struggle with a dysphoria similar to that of anorexia patients.
