TweetJust Because the World Doesn’t End, Doesn’t Mean Your World Won’t End. Monday I took a question on “economic collapse” and tried to explain that no that isn’t going to  happen, not the way many think about it anyway.  That the collapse is here, it is on going and it will have both chronic and acute symptoms.  In short instead of prepping for TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it) many should be prepping for TEOYWAYKI (the end of your world as you know it) As usual when you try to explain this some people feel that means, well, “it isn’t so bad” so do we even need to prep beyond say basic readiness. Also after doing this for so long I often forget that many of the core concepts of modern survivalism might be foreign to even people who have listed (especially selectively) for say two years or even more.  That the ground work I laid in the formative years may never have been heard by many listeners, at all. So today I will combine a bit of the fundamental modern survival thinking with current modern threats and considerations.  I will try to explain the balance between Doomsday Prepper nonsense and all I need is a flash light and some candles thinking.  Humans by and large are binary creatures with an internal binary code of ones and zeros, this is why the political dichotomy is so effective. We literally think in two dimensions.  Safety and danger, democrat or republican, Pepsi or Coke, rich or poor, sick or healthy, alive or dead, etc.  The absolutes are indeed black and white but life is a million shades of gray, today my goal is to bring you out into the spectrum and let you see some of those shades. TweetMy Vote in 2014 Is! I am really late today because I wrote an article that took a long time about not voting.  I wrote this not to convince you of anything only to challenge the myths around the concept.  What amazed me was how quick I got some really hateful comments by people who clearly didn’t even read the article. How quickly people who choose to listen to and follow my work just out of hand dismissed what I had to say with programmed talking points while never actually hearing what was said. So today I am going to examine this and I do hope people LISTEN to the substance vs. the title.  You see to me this is about liberty.  I always say, “know why you believe what you believe”, that is all I am saying here. I think so many people are trying to control other people and tell them how and what to both do and think that people just can’t accept that such isn’t always the case.  It is even harder on a hot button issue like voting.  Anyone listening to this episode or reading my article is highly likely to assume that my goal is for them to follow my example and not vote.  Nothing could be further from the truth than that. I am only asking you to examine why you believe what you believe and the validity of your own beliefs.  No one who fully understands that should respond with either anger or preprogrammed talking points. TweetCheck out the TSP Facebook Page Late yesterday I did this post on facebook asking for any and all questions that are permaculture/homestead related.  The plan was to do a rapid fire q and a style show. A this point I will say I will do my best, the post garnered over 150 comments in less than  12 hours time!  Some of the questions are easy, some are so complex as to require research and or a full show to cover them.  So I will pick and choose and do as many as I can do today. If you haven’t liked the TSP Facebook Page this post is just one example of why you should.  I put out a lot of information and lots of just fun stuff for the TSP community on facebook.  Sometimes I leak information, and/or do a sale on facebook and twitter.  You just never know. TweetThree Bee Hives – One of Many Additions to the Homestead in 2014 This is a great time of the year to look back at 2014 and begin fall/winter planning as well.  2014 was a big and very active year at the TSP ranch. It also saw the launch of PermaEthos, AgriTrue, the TSP Wiki, SchoolStupidity.com and now we will soon be releasing  GenForward.com. While I will talk a little bit about those things today I really want to focus mostly on the on the ground homestead improvements and lessons.  We now have a very large flock of chickens and a pretty good sized group of ducks.  The exciting part is our ducks are now laying eggs and I am absolutely in love with fresh duck eggs. I also broke down and installed some “conventional garden beds” but I have already decided on a intensive polyculture model for them.  I have completed my sorghum trials and selected a variety to attempt to naturalize on the homestead and more.
