Episode-1512- Professor CJ on History and Personal Liberty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:31:55

TweetCheck out the Dangerous History Podcast Prof CJ has multiple history degrees and has taught college history for eight years. He is also the host of a podcast called Prof CJ’s Dangerous History Podcast, which covers a wide variety of historical and related topics from a skeptical, libertarian, anti-establishment viewpoint. Prof CJ has been teaching college history since 2006, but he has been a smartass, iconoclast, and a cynical questioner and critic of authority since he was a little whippersnapper.  Naturally, these attitudes have influenced his take on history. Prof CJ likes his teaching job and does his utmost to incorporate his radical critiques of the established narrative into the classes he teaches, but he still finds formal academia somewhat limiting at times.  He decided to start a podcast as an outlet for his revisionist rants. Join Us Today to Discuss… CJs approach to history and why is it different from most historains Why he started a podcast and what he hopes people gain from it How can learning history be empowering and liberating for the individual What is the concept of the scholar-warrior and how does it relate to preparedness What lessons can history teach us that have relevance to Modern Survivalism What is true and what is false when it comes to the notion of American exceptionalism Were there ever really ‘good old days’ in the past, or is that a delusion Does history indicate we should be positive or negative in our outlook about the future Thoughts on the current status of higher education in America Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1512 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom GenForward.com TSP Gear PermaEthos.com AgriTrue.com Safe Castle Royal – (sponsor of the day) Fortress Defense Consultants  – (sponsor of the day) Nick Ferguson’s Plant Propagation Course A List of Cognitive Biases Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-1509- Establishing Productive Living Fence Systems | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:40

TweetA Living Fence Made of Apple Trees Guys I am going to move the Friday show to Monday and the Monday show to Tuesday next week.  After traveling this week I am way behind, between grading PermaEthos projects, the travel and getting GenForward to the next level I am just warn out. It is also the case that lot of my projects and planing on the homestead are falling behind so today I will combine the two in this episode. As I am moving from a chicken based system to a duck based system I have a need to divide my 3 acre property into a minimum of 3 one acre paddocks for effective management of forage and vegetation control.  Based on one existing cross fence this can be accomplished with two simple fences on the other two acres.  Both running to buildings which highly reduce the amount of fencing require. Of course one of my major challenges is the rock on the property.  I also don’t really want two big ugly permanent fences bisecting my property.  My solution is to put in simple cheap low temporary fencing based on my cinder block and concrete design.  Install a few gates and then plant a productive hedge row along the same path.  In 2-3 years the hedge rows should be more than adequate to control ducks. Join Me Today to Discuss… How I came to this solution Why it might or might not be right for you Why I feel my solution will require irrigation The keys to making this type of system financially viable Fast growing Appropriate technology Cheap plants (cuttings, seed or very cheap seedlings) Understanding productive Food production Fuel production Fodder production Medicine/Tea Soil building Wind blocking Cost effective Wildlife Habitat Some species that might work well for such a fencing system Apple Mulberry Goji Berry Rosa Rugusa Jujube Hazle Nuts Loquat Plum Aronia Osage Orange Black Locust Autumn Olive Tea (Camellia) Currant/Gooseberry Willow Some other plants to consider with some limitations Cane fruits (black and raspberry) Bamboo Elderberry Mesquite/Acacia Final Thoughts Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1509 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom GenForward.com TSP Gear PermaEthos.com AgriTrue.com Harvest Eating – (sponsor of the day) Western Botanicals – (sponsor of the day) Sources Mentioned Today Lawyers Nursery Cold Stream Farm Burnt Ridge Nursery Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon. Today I who am often the teacher becomes the student.  You will one particular time in today’s show during our discussion on duck management where I literally have to pull myself back into the interview.  Geoff simply drops an amazingly simple concept on me and my mind at once begins to design a new system of soil building, food production, microbe cultivation and duck management. We also discuss many other permaculture concepts including Geoff’s coming PDC, his work in Africa, hacks to his chicken tractor on steroids system and a new concept he calls “plugins”. Last Monday’s Prepper Scenario We live in a world where those in power are constantly engaged in disinformation and distraction campaigns. At the same time there is a tremendous amount of good information and technological information available. How can we empower young people to be critical thinkers, so they can both learn from the new information that is out there and filter out the majority of useless, distracting, misleading or down right deceitful information?  Episode-1500- Home vs. Homestead | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:49

TweetThis is Only One Version of a Modern Homestead Today most feel the word homestead simply means a house with a garden, perhaps some chickens and a little workshop and a few fruit trees.  Many true homesteads do have those things and some don’t.  Today I will discuss something I first discussed on TSP back in get this, July of 2008 in Episode 20 of The Survival Podcast.  Yep back in the Jetta TDI Mobile Studio Days. Homesteads today come in may shapes and forms.  Some are rural homesteads and some are urban homesteads.  Some are primarily agricultural endeavors and others are simply well planned homes not tied to overwhelming expenses. Instead of teaching the value of homestead thinking today Americans are marketed to with a very different message.  The message today is clear, home ownership is the way forward.  It is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your family and any sacrifice is worth the cost.  We are not literally programed this way from grade school onward. The reality is far too many Americans have homes today!  What?  How is that bad?  You will understand what I mean today as I explain what a home is vs. a homestead.  In some ways this can be explained as Robert Kyosiki puts it, “Most Americans consider a house their single largest asset, the reality is it is usually their single largest liability” Indeed this is sadly the case but that is only one way of looking at this issue. Join Me Today to Discuss… How the original homesteads were built and why they were built How a CFO would look at your home if it was a “company asset” How debt elimination is the best first strategy for your homestead and lifestyle design The case for a garden The case for perennial plantings The case for a functional home based business The case for the small home/tiny home movement The case for the large home, or compound approach Where alternative energy fits in, where it doesn’t Why this is absolutely tied in with buying local/regional How the internet has changed things even since the first time I discussed this subject How a homestead is powerful but a community of them is more powerful The story of the Urban Farming Guys – this is the power of a homestead! Why the homestead is a path to liberty Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1500 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TSP Gear PermaEthos.com AgriTrue.com GenForward on IndieGogo Knife Kits – (sponsor of the day) Backwoods Home – (sponsor of the day) Amazing Work with Community of Homesteads in the Inner City Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-1499- Getting Ready for Spring 2015 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:53

TweetWe often tend to loose sight of the fact that a season is only about 90 days time. Spring?  Did that moron Jack say spring?  Has he gone daft?  Doesn’t he know that it is below zero in much of the nation.  Hasn’t he seen the big white piles of “global warming” all over the country?  Spring, really this moron speaks of spring?  Pipes are frozen and broken, the dog won’t go outside to pee and another arctic blast is descending upon us from Canada and this dolt, speaks of chirping birds and budding trees? Now hold on, the first day of spring is officially March 21st, that is the spring equinox.  Today is Jan. 15th, which means that day is only 67 days away.  To put that in perspective, remember how we just went from Halloween to Christmas so fast, well that duration of days comes out to 76 days.  Remember how fast that seemed to happen? The point is simply wen you get down to about two months, time goes faster then you’d expect. Join Me Today to Discuss… Now is the time to reflect on the past and plan for the future Make a list of everything you want to do and a cost estimate of same Look at your list and set priorities on wants, needs and expense Consider using excel and sorting based on value of the three Some major considerations Average last frost dates What are you planting When does heat become a problem (man, beast, plant) Are you staying or going (residence long term) Some of our current plans Finish misting system and tree grow beds Plant new long term cover crops Finish installing zone based irrigation Green House (we shall see) Reduce chickens, expand ducks (more involved then you’d think) Set up store front for NineMile.farm (do we really need it?) Set up full workshop in the out building Plan spring propagation and planting goals Build a comfrey propagation bed Fencing solution for the porch area (duck shit is an issue) Mulch, mulch, mulch, and mulch Plan and get ready for spring annual gardens Create “living fence” foundation for the gardens Ponds?  Is it really possible, or worth it? Fence in garden ponds Extend planting areas on food forest and urban garden Can I get this all done, who knows, that is why we start our planning now Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1499 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TSP Gear PermaEthos.com AgriTrue.com GenForward on IndieGogo JM Bullion – (sponsor of the day) Western Botanicals – (sponsor of the day) Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
