Episode 74: We Suck At Movie Wager: In this our 74th episode of The Braingasm Podcast we are joined by (record scratch). This be our wrap up show for the 2012 Summer Movie Wager which began with Wrath of the Titans and ended with Expendables 2 (both quality pictures). As such we do not do any of the regular things that we normally do. So if you loved WBFYV, well sorry I guess. But what we do have in this 2 hour movie wager extravaganza is the presentation of the 2nd annual Golden Gasm awards for Movie Wager. This includes a red carpet pre-show and lots of people referring to a google doc. Swanky. Also we are joined by the Winner of Movie Wager.  Following that we have two separate pre-taped interviews. The first is an interview with the winner of the 2012 Summer Movie Wager. As you may have guessed the second is an interview with Karl, the janitor at the local IHOP. Now I’m just being silly. In all seriousness the second interview is with the loser of the 2012 Summer Movie Wager. Both of these are quality and sure to amaze and delight one and all. If you have no idea what Summer Movie Wager is then this might not mean much to you but it’s still an entertaining episode and it will initiate you into what Summer Movie Wager is all about. Episode 73: Bippity Boppity Lube: In this our 73rd episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are without Cesca yet again but, bear with me because this is gonna be good. We have in her place the beautiful Chicago Jonathan and the delightfully demonic Jason Murphy (@captainmurphy) We began as we do every week by addressing the screaming crowd of people who had gathered to listen to us record this episode.  We then embarked on an epic journey of BSing. There was a lot of talk about ghost hunting and the paranormal in general. It was a good time. Also Scooby Doo. We then moved on into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Ben felt like a chowdahead for really enjoying the new Three Stooges movie. Jason told us that Supernatural is dreamy and regaled us with his opinions on some comic books. Finally, Jon Total Recall-ed a memory into himself where he was the super spy in the Bourne Legacy.  After the break we firmly entrenched a new ongoing tradition by playing Secret Identity. The game is simple, one person leaves the room and the remaining two people decide who that person will be when they return. They go on to have a conversation with them as if they were that person and the person has to try and figure out who they are. It was very fun, although there was one that Jon didn’t get that was so maddeningly obvious that you’ll likely start screaming at your computer. This was an awesomely fun episode. Episode 72: Mayce-Turbation : In this our 72nd episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by the Titan of Teens Mayce Galoni (@maycegaloni).  We began as we do every week with Ben setting the guest up for SO MUCH failure. After that we…well after that we embarked on a long an magical journey through the wondrous world of taped conversation. Gone are the days of Void Fillers and in their place we have a long and thought provoking discussion about the nature of stand up comedy as observed by two men who are but sticking their toes in its vast waters. In all seriousness Mayce and Ben just turned on the recorder and rapped about stand up for over an hour. They talked about favourite memories, the origins and strange genealogies of some of their jokes, their differing approaches to crafting material, and a bunch of other fun topics surely to have you comedy nerds creaming your fruit of the looms. The conversation also briefly veers towards the topic of higher learning.  This episode is widely divergent from the norm for us. If you don’t enjoy it, fear not as there are plenty of ant’s left to ic. However, I think that most of you will find this stop over in the cerebral to be a welcome divergence. Episode 71: Cereal Palsy: In this our 71st episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by two lovely gentlemen from New York in the forms of Vincent Rivano (@theshiny1) and super special guest Rob Sprance from The Glory Hole Podcast (@robsprance). We began as we do every week with Vincent measuring his breast size live on the air. After that we BSed for a great long while and Ben told the story of a particularly memorable stand up show he did. We then transitioned semalessly into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. We only had one void filler this week and it was a goodun. Vincent rediscovered the most pure joy known to man, hooker killing. This lead to a discussion of Grand Theft Auto and video games in general which was chock full of hilarity. After the break we broke Braingasm and had a rather lengthy (AND SPOILER INTENSIVE) discussion of the first two episodes of Breaking Bad. If you enjoyed our episode which was devoted entirely to Breaking Bad (and why wouldn’t you) then you are certain to enjoy this one. There was a nice mix of reflection, reminiscing, Speculation and general joviality which makes this truly a treat for your ears.  This was a fun episode of the show. Episode 70: Come Hither, Jon Snow : In this our 70th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are sans Cesca but with an abundance of Jordan Cobb (@jowoco). Why? Because they’re the same person! We are also joined by first timer but instant classic Andrew Robinson (@gmanreviews). We began as we do every week with Jordan proclaiming his hatred of science in favour of his beloved religion. After that we had an intensely entertaining BSing section which lasted right up until we moved on into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Ben read at a high school level his review of the film 21 Jump Street. Andrew extolled the virtues of ducks in his review of The FP. And Jordan fell in love with the magic of his own voice in his discussion of Hugo. After that we played a short clip from the audiobook of A Storm Of Swords that is sure to amaze and befuddle you. This is worth the cost of admission alone so definitely stick around for this part of the show.  Following that we opened up the games closet and dusted off Made Up Movie. The game involves one person giving the title of a movie and then the other two people coming up with on the spot plot descriptions for movies which could bear that title. It’s always a crowd pleaser and this instalment was no different. This was one of my favorite episodes of the show to make. I want to thank Andrew for coming on and bringing the heat. Episode 69: STOREgasm: In this our 69th (giggity) episode of The Braingasm Podcast we are joined by the master filmaker and humblest dude in the world Craig F. Watkins (@craigfwatkins).  We began as we do every week with Ben making a rookie mistake (STUPID STUPID STUPID) After that we talked about our new Amazon sponsorship and the end of the City Lights era.  After that we moved on into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Cesca returned to familiar demonic grounds in her discussion of the new album by the band Calabrese. Craig super sized his nerd boner while watching Morgan Spurlock’s Comic Con documentary Episode 4: A Fan’s Hope. Finally Ben F***ed five twos after listening to the Last Words of one of his heroes, George Carlin.  After the break we did a little interview with master Watkins and got him to spill the Doritos about his upcoming film, The Store. Craig was totally game and very candid so what we ended up with was a very in depth and compelling discussion of both independent film production and release and monetization. It was also really funny. Seriously though, if you are a filmmaker or have entertained notions of wanting to be one someday this chat will be right up your alley.  And on that note I must depart my children. Episode 68: BronyCon Carne: In this our 68th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by resident Brony Scott Johnson (@scottpjthoughts), and Megan (Cesca’s friend, ask her how to contact her).  We began as we do every week by introducing Rainbow Dash and the McSwag.  After that we BSed for a bit (not long) and then launched right in to What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Ben got all Oprah on us by giving his latest instalment of his Audible.com Presents The Braingasm Book Club with Kevin Smith’s autobiography: Tough Sh*t. This led into a lively and surprisingly informative discussion of movie studio accounting and why you should always get a percentage of the GROSS and not the NET. After that Scotty regaled us with tales of wonder and neon lights that was the Alice Cooper/Iron Maiden concert.  After that we went to break as Cesca watched Rome burn.  After the break we took a trip to the land of Ponyville (54:58-End) for a lengthy and in depth discussion of the My Little Pony phenomenon. Even if you are not a Brony, or are even aware of what brony is this is still an interesting discussion merely from the standpoint of observing the emergence of a new geek subculture as it blooms for the first time. As you will hear the phenomenon has echoes of every other geek movement from the comic book nerds all the way to the Trekies. That and it’s also pretty entertaining. All that in one discussion, give us a freaking Pulitzer you bald mother fu…. (sorry misplaced rage). This was a good discussion and a good episode. Episode 67: Penis Mightier: In this our 67th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we were joined by our two reporters in the field, Scott Johnson (@scottpjthouhgts) and Denis McElwaine (@den1981). They joined us to talk about their recent assignments to cover the event known as Spill Dot Con. But we’ll get to that a little later. We began as we do every week with Scott pondering as to whether “67” should/does have a sex position named after it. Listening to it in context it makes no more sense I’m afraid.  After that we had a little light discussion. Ben gave a puppy and comedy update and the sh*t was shot. We then segued expertly into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Scott and Denis went first since they used the opportunity to answer questions and tell stories about their experiences at Spill Dot Con 2012. There was one story involving friend of the show Chicago Jon that was extra worthy of your listening. Cesca then talked about reading (seriously, who does that anymore?) a book entitled Ready Player One. In this installment of BBACAHBH’SDIMW we talked about Brave and Amazing Spiderman and assessed the field moving into the home stretch.  After the break we dusted off an old classic and gave it a face lift in the form of Braingasm Jeopardy. Episode 66: Jar Jar Knows The Kama Sutra : In this our 66th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are kicking it old school. We are joined by the two men who, along with Ben, originated this crazy endeavour, Ryan (@ryan_corderman) and Zack (@z_h_). We began as we do every week with Zack singing Call Me Maybe.  After that we had a heaping helping of conversation. Ben discussed watching a guy walk across Niagara Falls.  After that we moved on into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Ben reiterated his love of the film Safety Not Guaranteed. Ryan went left, right, up and even down in his discussion of the “film” The FP. Finally, Zack dove in slow motion with joy in recommending the video game Max Payne 3.  After that we did a Movie Wager update where basically everyone lamented about how much they suck at this. After the break (and some awkwardness) Ben and Ryan had a nice man to man convo session which lasted the rest of the episode. They discussed: Ryan’s chances in the Hunger Games, Call Me Maybe, Favourite memories of Star Wars, Ryan’s love of Jar Jar Binks, and other BS. This will be regarded as a landmark in spoken word entertainment, trust me. This was a fun ep. Felt like getting back to our roots which is always fun. Episode 65: Trailer Trash 2 Electric Boogaloo : In this our 65th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are have a shortage of Cesca’s but a surplus of Zack’s. We are joined by the artist formerly known as Zakkamania and now known as Seagrams presents Zakkamania (@zakkamania00) and Zach Mitchel (@mrzman96). We began as we do every week by screaming “where’s my sex midget?”  After that we did a little light conversation. Ben got a puppy and he talked about that. Zakk and Zach started a fight which would continue throughout the rest of the show. After that we moved on into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Zach watched Drive and said as much about it as Ryan Gosling said in the movie. Zakk didn’t think that Hung was particularly well, but was never bored while watching Bored To Death (just creeped out). Finally Ben gave us a Tyrion sized review of the Game of Thrones season 2 finale. After that we did a quick Movie Wager update and went into the break. After the break we got down to the business of show…and tell. It was our second installment of Trailer Trash. In this edition we asked the fans to send us the worst movie trailers ever made so that we could make fun of them for hours of entertainment. Episode 64: Scottish Sausage Pizza: In this our 64th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by the lovely and talented Ian Fergus (@ohhfergus) We began as we do every week by chastising Ian for his alcoholism. After that we introduced a new pseudo-segment Adult Story Time. Where we tell each other stories which would make the elderly members of our family want to chase us with a weed whacker. Ben told some puking tales and Ian talked about sausage pizza (not what you think). After that we moved into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Cesca went first and yelled from the bar about how odd the documentary Heckler is. After that Ben beat the piss out of Rodney King in celebration of his completion of The Wire and his initiation of The Shield. Finally, Ian got us all up to date on brother loving and flesh eating in his discussion of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. After the break we had a nice low key discussion about doing comedy in the Niagara region and some highlights/lowlights of the game. Pay specific attention to one part of the discussion where we began talking about someone who would rather remain nameless as the sheer number of censor beeps is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. This was a nice palate cleansing episode. We stripped away the insanity of last week to reveal the rich nougaty centre of comedy. Tune in next week, same Bat time same bat channel.
