We talked about good and bad tattoos, Ben’s reasons for not having any, our differing philosophies on tattoos, and many other body art related concepts.  After that we segued seamlessly (SEAMLESSLY!) to a discussion of Sons of Anarchy. The conversation began with little to no spoilers, as Ben discussed his overall feelings about the show from the perspective of someone who has seen every episode over the course of years, and Cesca discussed her overall feelings from the perspective of someone who has only recently seen it. After that the conversation got more spoilery with Cesca getting into her reasons for deciding to stop watching the show.  If you are a fan of Sons of Anarchy and tattoos (there has to be at least one, right?) then this episode is like a beautiful gift from podcast heaven. Episode 133: Jesus and Cheetos : In this our 133rd episode of the Braingasm Podcast we blind you with science - SCIENCE!!! We began as we do every week with Ben having a stroke.  After that we continued the stroke discussion, and segued into a discussion of how humans remember things but more importantly how we forget them.  After that we discussed the show Cosmos, which Ben had seen but Cesca had not. This lead to a larger science oriented discussion that took up the rest of the episode. If you are a fan of Carl Sagan, you will find a lot to enjoy here. Episode 132: Yellow King of the Nerds: In this our 132nd episode of the Braingasm Podcast Cesca is on sick leave, and Kurt Hull (@refreshy) from Gasm of Thrones moves on up to the big boy chair.  We began as we do every week with Kurt realizing that Ben is not Marc Maron.  After that they talked about the return of Gasm of Thrones, Elementary, police procedurals, how annoying bleeping things is, Sean Bean’s movie mortality rate, Hamilton comedy vs. Niagara comedy, and comedy in general. After that they talked about vidya games. They talked about Witcher 2, RPG class preferences, Dark Souls, Japanese games vs. western games, DOTA, Assassins Creed, and Titanfall.  After THAT they claimed to devote the rest of the episode to discussing True Detective, but that didn’t exactly happen. Episode 131: The Ben W's Club : In this our 131st episode of the Braingasm Podcast we talk about what it means to be a great artist in an increasingly splintered cultural environment.  We began as we do every week by making fun of the name “Dick Trickle”. After that we talked about the filming of Ben’s upcoming comedy DVD. Funny stories were told, tidbits were teased, behind the scenes dramas were exposed. It was a real E! True Hollywood Story.  After that we talked about the genius of Semisonic, the tragic story of “Creep”, and Cesca finally heard “The Air That I Breathe” by the Hollies. This all culminated in a very heady discussion of what it means to be an artist, and the responsibility that an artist has to his or her audience. Also Ben hates Modest Mouse.  This was a fun, free-for-all type episode. Episode 130 (We Did It): Three Williams and a Baby : In this our 130th (we did it) episode of the Braingasm Podcast girls get all up on our goth swag.  We began as we do every week by saying “episode 130. We did it” After that we had a fairly lengthy music discussion. Ben revealed his newfound love for My Chemical Romance. Cesca SQUEE’D a lot. We also talked about the acceptable time in one’s life to be goth. Created a new vacation destination. Simultaneously praised and disparaged Fall Out Boy. Lots of good, wholesome family fun. After that we closed a chapter in our Doctor Who discussions. I’m not going to say what happened as it’s a spoiler. Suffice it to say that Ben was not happy. We then transitioned to talking about Ben’s psychological self manipulation when it comes to his run training. This transitioned into a discussion of the wonders and weirdness of the winter Olympics. Episode 128: I Speak Baby : In this our 128th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we game the system.  We began as we do every week with Ben declaring it the special Valentines Day episode. After that we discussed our mutual ambivalence towards both the pro-Valentines Day people, and the Anti-Valentines Day people. This segued majestically into a discussion of Simpsons Tapped Out. We talked about the recent update, and Ben hinted at a way to increase your supply of a certain baked good currency (hint hint).  After that we briefly touched on the Flappy Bird saga before diving head first into a discussion of Civilization V. Throughout the course of this discussion Ben’s addiction to the game became more and more apparent, making the entire discussion progressively sadder. Cesca also intimidated the audience into playing the Rockstar game Bully.  From this we segued into our semi-regular Doctor Who check-in. Episode 127: Right or Left? : In this very celebratory episode of the Braingasm Podcast we give a hand to a friend, before taking it right back and then some. If you haven’t guessed Zack is back in black, but not like Shaq. That would be wack.  We began as we do every week with our unconscious guest recovering from the chloroform they were given. After that we discussed what Zack has been up to since we last heard from him. We talked about being a comedian in Toronto as opposed to being a comedian in Niagara. We followed that up with a discussion of the fact that people think all comedians are crazy (in which we largely confirmed their suspicion). After that we talked about movies! We discussed Academy Award nominees, Ben’s growing disillusion with geek cinema, Films we didn’t see and likely never will, We also had a small but efficient discussion of television.  …and then we cut Zack’s arm off. Episode 126: You Just Got Learned!: In this our 126th episode of the Braingasm Podcast class is in session and we learn all kinds of fun things.  We began as we do every week by telling the story of the one armed hand model (he’s our greatest inspiration).  After that we discussed the upcoming parting of ways between Zack and his hand.  Following that we talked about Ben’s being a poor S.O.B. This segued naturally into a discussion of linguistics and the philosophy of language. This gave way to an in-depth discussion of the philosophical concept of identity (not a joke). We also talked about Quantum Physics, metaphysics, and a bunch of other smarty-pants stuff. Trust me it was fun, and we will do more of this stuff in the future (which according to some theories is an abstract concept which by definition cannot actually exist, and according to other theories is merely a different point along an all-existing time spectrum similar to the concept of spatial distance).  After that we discussed Ben’s recent fascination with Mary Poppins, which he realized while watching Saving Mr. Banks that he had never seen. He discussed the movie itself through the lens of having watched it, as well as Saving Mr. Banks, and the documentary on the Sherman Brothers entitled The Boys. If you are a Poppins newbie or a Poppins Pro you should find something to like about this discussion. This was probably the smartest episode we’ve ever done. I feel smarter having been it. Episode 125: 3 Years Older, No Years Wiser : In this our 3rd anniversary episode of the Braingasm Podcast we look back on all of the things that led us to this point…and then completely ignore them. You know what they say about knowing history and it repeating itself….seriously, do you know? Because I don’t. Ah screw it I’ll just keep repeating the same patterns over and over.  We began as we do every week by talking about the fact that this was the 3rd anniversary. We talked about the humble beginnings, humble middle parts, and presumably humble future.  After that we had a surprisingly lenghty discussion of the MPAA, and the wackines of the movie rating system.  Following that Ben vowed never again to set foot in a Gamestop, and related the joys of Xbox Games on Demand over traditional brick and mortar soul harvesting retail locations.  Finally we checked back in with our favourite time travelling doctor (Not Doc Brown, the other guy. The one who thinks bow ties are cool). We discussed episodes Rebel Flesh through God Complex. Full spoilers for those episodes and any previous episodes. Episode 124: Kraft Singles Are Delicious : In this our 124th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we chew the fat, which is all Cesca can manage without her wisdom teeth.  We began as we always do by congratulating ourselves for taking almost 3 years to come up with an idea that should have taken 5 minutes (go team).  After that we discussed the formal parting of ways between Cesca and her teeth. Episode ABC: Easy As 123 : In this our 123rd episode of the Brainagasm Podcast we spend a lot of time on the couch.
