Episode 121: Rhode (NOT AN) Island: In this our festive 121st episode of the Braingasm Podcast we deck the halls with boughs of folly.  We began as we do every week with Ben beginning to tell his favourite Simpsons joke ever…and then never actually telling it.  After that we discussed some of the peculiar differences between Canada and the US. This gave way to a discussion of accents and the fact that RHODE ISLAND IS NOT AN ISLAND! Following that Ben discussed how freaking awesome Broadchurch is. His only advice when you watch it is don’t make plans.  After that to celebrate the holidays we participated in a little trivia game. For the Ask An Atheist section of the evening Cesca quizzed Ben on the biblical history of Christmas (with hilarious results). For the Ask An American section Ben quizzed Cesca on the most hallowed of days, Boxing Day (with similarly hilarious results).  This was our most successful Christmas episode to date! Episode 120: Recovering Gay Fish: In this our 120th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we feel like this number should be significant somehow.  We began as we do every week by speaking. After that we discussed Ben’s pending 5k race, running in the snow, dieting and exercising for lazy people, and a bunch of other healthy alternatives.  Following that we discussed at length the 17th season of South Park. Episode 119: Converse Bow Tie : In this our 119th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we just talk about things for a little bit.  We began as we do every week with Ben admitting that he has “Hundred Tourettes”. After that we took some time to pour one out for Spill.com. Once the tears had dried we broke down our feelings on the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead. Who died? Who betrayed who? Who cares? Episode 118: Enjoy Your Fake Thanksgiving : In this fakely festive episode of the Braingasm Podcast we enjoy a meal of insightful conversation. We began as we do every week with Ben and Cesca being prepared to definitively state the correct episode number. After that we talked about how American Thanksgiving is NOT the true Thanksgiving. We provide undeniable evidence that the Canadian version is in fact the true turkey day. Adjust your calendars accordingly. After that we talked about our least favourite things people do at concerts/sporting events. We flatten the wave, deflate the concert beach ball, and knock crowd surfing right off its board. WORD PLAY! After that Ben discusses his progress towards being less of an unhealthy piece of s***. We talk about running, dieting, all the stuff you want to hear while listening to a podcast at your desk.  We then moved onto some TV talk. The second season of Arrow has shot one straight and true into Ben’s heart. And OBVIOUSLY we talked about the recent Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. Episode 117: Titles Are So Passé : In this our southern fried 117th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we find out that the killer was us along. We began as we do every week by collapsing from exhaustion 3 minutes in. After that Ben talked about his strange work habits, Cesca talked about modern TIbetan art, and a bunch of other stuff. After that they discussed Walking Dead and how Ben may or may not start watching it again.  FInally the two ranted on their favorite topic: stupid people on the Internet. This week that conversation took the form of a discussion of the console war, and the misogyny many women face from the video game community…in a funny way, we promise. They concluded with a brief discussion of the increasing length of the Christmas season. This was a very scatterbrained episode. We had ups, downs, sides of fries, all of that good stuff. Episode 116: Harvey Wallbanger: In this our wicked dark 116th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we travel through time and relative dimensions in space. We began as we do every week by absolutely butchering the Boston accent. After that Cesca had some good news about her status regarding graduation from college and Ben talked about a new direction he has taken with his stand up. Following that we checked in on Walking Dead to see if it has gotten bad yet (“It’s gonna happen” - Ben, screaming from across the room). We also discussed our feelings about the “Talking ______” series of shows, and why we’d never have Marilyn Manson as a guest on Braingasm.  After that it was all Doctor Who all the time and relative dimension in space! Ben checked in on his progress and the two had an in depth discussion about the episodes that he had watched. We spent most of the time discussing the three part finale of series 3. If you’ve seen it, then you’ll know why (it’s really really good). As with all of our Doctor Discussions be advised that SPOILERS ABOUND. Episode 115: Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Kodos: In this spooky 115th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we get all spooky in honour of Halloween. We began as we do every week with Ben describing ideas for terrible episodes that we will never do…or will we (MUAHAHAHAHA) After that we took some time to discuss the death of rock legend Lou Reed.  After that we talked about a bunch of spooky topics including Cesca’s basement ghost, Ben’s spooky Dagobah tree of a walk, local serial killers, you get the idea. After that we talked about horror movies. We talked a little bit about movies themselves but the conversation was more of a meta discussion of the nature of horror movies themselves. We did mention and discuss some of our favourites so if you’re looking for something to watch this Halloween, take notes. Finally we talked about The Simpsons. We started off by confessing our love of Tapped Out, and then we discussed the current Treehouse of Horror update as well as beloved previous updates, We also talked about the Treehouse of Horror episodes themselves, hence the episode title.  All in all, a perfectly macabre hour of podcasting. Episode 114: Icelandic Terror Fable: In this our 114th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we got the episode number correct! We began as we do every week by getting the episode number right (very proud of us). After that Cesca attempted to explain the plot of American Horror Story. I say attempted because try as she might I have a hard time imagining that anyone could sum up a season of that show and retain their sanity. SPOILERS if you care about AHS season 1 spoilers for some reason. After that Ben took another bite out of Cesca’s belief that the Walking Dead is good. They talked about the most recent episode, pigglet-cide, how it’s possible to coexist with decaying bodies without suffering from every disease imaginable, and villain songs. SPOILERS if you haven’t seen the newest episode. Finally, Ben travelled ahead in time from 2006 to 2007…in his binge watching of Doctor Who. He watched episodes 2.8-3.6 so be warned of SPOILERS for every episode up to and including 3.6. Episode 113: Blasphemy-Gasm: In this holiest of 113th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we talk about three topics that no one ever gets passionate about…Walking Dead, Dr. Who, and Religion. We began as we do every week by forgetting that it’s actually episode 113. Our bad.  After that we dove headlong into a discussion of religion. Now I know what you’re thinking: two admitted non-believers discussing religion is likely to result in something very, very, very hilarious. And you’d be right. And don’t worry believer types, the conversation is light and fun. Nothing said here is said with malice or hatred, so relax and have a fun time.  After that we revisited Dr. Who. Ben gave us an update of the episodes that he has seen and some of his thoughts on the show thus far. We won’t be talking tardis every week but it is something that we will return to periodically. So all of you Whovians should stick around for the future. After that we discussed the series premiere of The Walking Dead…well Cesca discussed it. Episode 112: Boogie Boogie Hodge-Podge: In this our 112th episode of The Braingasm Podcast NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS!!! We began as we do every week by completely abandoning our usual format to bring you a Frankenstein monster… This episode is composed of three mini-episodes that we crudely stapled together to form one big episode. Because that’s how physics works, right?  The first of our three “segments” is a discussion of Grand Theft Auto V. In the time since our last discussion Ben had time to finish the game and Cesca had started to play it. Think of it as a kind of sequel to our last discussion. (0:06:00 - 0:33:24) After that Cesca disappears into thin air and is replaced by Thomas Carver (@neozectt) and Vincent RIvano (@theshiny1) for a spirited round of Made Up Movie Game…Thing. Hilarity truly ensued. (0:34:16 - 1:19:47) Finally the show takes a somber turn as Ben discusses the recent (at least at that point it was) end of his relationship to his longtime girlfriend. While by no means a cry fest this segment is of a decidedly personal nature and as such we left it for last. (1:20:40 - 1:34:42) That’s it kidlets. Episode 111: Breaking Bad Finally : In this our 111th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we bid farewell to one of the finest television programs in the history of shows about chemistry teachers cooking meth…Breaking Bad. We began as we do every week…by not talking about Breaking Bad for like a hot minute.  After that it was right into the action. We broke down the final 75 minutes and talked about literally everything we could think of that was Breaking Bad related. Episode 110: Grand Theft Autonomy : In this our 110th (1010th according to Cesca) we talk about the biggest and baddest entertainment properties on the block. We began as we do every week with Ben’s complete inability to do even basic math. After that we talked about Ben and Cesca’s birthdays and Maggie’s love of cake.  Following that we did an unintentionally long, but surprisingly awesome dissection of Grand Theft Auto V. Bear in mind that Ben is only part way through it and Cesca hasn’t played it at all so the views of the show are subject to change as time goes on and more is played. But what you guys really came for was the Breaking Bad discussion, right? Yeaaaaaah. I know my audience. We were a week late last time so this week we discussed TWO episodes. Episode 109: Attractive Meth: In this belated 109th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we travel back in time…In more ways than one. We began as we do every week with Ben messing up his own name.  After that we set about explaining exactly what happened to last week’s episode. Short version is that as we were about to record something rather unfortunate happened to Ben’s computer and it wasn’t immediately clear that it would survive. To get the full version just listen to the freaking episode ya lazy bum. After that Ben stepped out of the closet. And by closet I mean to say Blue Police Box…also he likes dudes. Not really. But there’s nothing wrong with liking dudes. Some of my best friends like dudes. (This is Cesca writing this and is in no way Ben accusing himself of liking dudes and then trying to backtrack on that…just so we’re queer…CLEAR!). In actual fact Ben announced that he has FINALLY started watching Dr. Who. The two engaged in a nice conversation about what Ben thought about the episodes he has watched, Cesca telling him about what he has in store for him and reflecting on her own experience of these early episodes, etc.  After that the pair discussed the newest episode of Breaking Bad…newest for people who have been in a coma for a week that is. Since neither of them had had the opportunity to see the new episode the two discussed the prior week’s episode. We plan to catch up on both the new episode and this week’s episode so that we will be fully prepared for the following week’s series finale (*tear).
