Episode 84: (BLEEP!) Tom Benjamin: In this our 84th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we do another sit down comedian conversation with one of my favourite people in the world, Tom Benjamin (@rottentommy). We began as we do every week with Ben getting mad at the guest for having a better voice than him. After that we got right to the business of conversation. Episode 83: Wreck-That-A$$ Ralph : In this better late than never 83rd episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are at full host strength and we are joined by a master Denic McElwaine (@den1981). We began as we do every week with an out of nowhere recording and no preface. It ended up producing a good segment so it was worth it.  After that we BSed around for a while before finally moving into What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Cesca got an extra life by seeing Wreck-It Ralph. Denis got his brains eaten out through his ears (giggity) by the Zombie Podcast AudioDrama We’re Alive (http://www.zombiepodcast.com/). And Ben got struck by Cupid’s arrow and fell in love with the show Arrow.  After the break, rushed for time we decided to play two non-competitive rounds of Made Up Movie Game Thing. Instead of our usual two player and a judge style we just freestyled and tried to come up with the best plot descriptions for movies that we could. It was drole.  This was a fun episode, Sorry it took so long to get it up (giggity). We will be moving full steam ahead now that Ben’s Internet has been restored and he has settled back into a normal schedule. Braingasm Reviews: Skyfall : In this shaken not stirred instalment of the wildly popular and father to many Braingasm Reviews series Ben, Jordan (@jowoco), and Zack (@Z_h_) reviewed the beloved latest entry in the James Bond film series, Skyfall. Cargasm #2: Levi Mann (10/25/2012): In this follow up instalment to the smash hit Cargasm #1 we attempt to replicate the greatness while replacing half of the ingredients. Instead of David Green (who I assure you will return) we are joined by fresh faced newcomer Levi Mann.  This is a recording of the drive back from a gig in the town that Ben grew up in, Orangeville Ontario. Ben and Levi won the audience choice and judge’s choice in the competition meaning that they both advanced to the next round. Needless to say, they were in good moods. What you will hear is a slightly more structured version of the conversations that occur on every one of these trips. Episode 82: Night of the Extra Living Dead : In this back-to-basics 82nd episode of The Braingasm Podcast we are joined by an elite task force of familiar faces. Shakyl Lambert (@the_gamin_king), Jordan Worth Cobb (@jowoco), and a little later in the festivities Scott Johnson (@scottpjthoughts). We began as we do every week with Shakyl doing high quality racism.  After that we BS’d but good for a while talking about the ridiculous age difference between Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook, and other stuff too. We actually talked about sports for a very short period so stick around for that.   Wasting no time at all we moved in the direction of What’s Been Filling Our Voids. Shakyl opened things up talking about Killer Joe and its conspicuous lack of moustache  Ben was declared legally insane for not completely falling in love with Seven Psychopaths. I put the 24hr part in quotation marks for reasons that will become clear upon listening to the episode. Episode 81: Herman Is Large Marge : In this our 81st episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by three comedians in the no particular order: Clifford Myers (@Cliffalus ), Jeff Stroop and Brenda Lennie! We began as we do every week by disparaging people named “Robbie” from our lofty positions sitting on the ground in a parking lot outside of a bar in Hamilton in the middle of the night…on a Wednesday.  This was a super cool episode for me and I have to say, without a doubt it was my favourite experience that I’ve had doing this. We had no script, no studio, no idea what we were going to do so we just sat around and had a real conversation. As you will hear what developed was so much more than that however. Suffice it to say that of all of the people on this episode I was the least interesting. It was awesome. We started off just joking around and having a good time but pretty soon after the addition of Brenda (who as you will hear was literally just walking her dog in the neighbourhood when she found us! How cool is that) we got super deep and that was where I felt that the true awesomeness of this episode came from.  At one point Clifford made reference to it being akin to a church in its original conception and while I initially dismissed that listening back and remembering the moment there was definitely something spiritual about it.  The only thing that I will mention content wise is this: Pretty early on we were “joined” by another comedian named Herman. We had a few laughs with him but rest assured, he is not there for the entire episode. I thought about cutting certain things out but I decided that everything that happened (good/bad) made the night what it was so they should be included. This is a true snapshot of a moment in time. Episode 80: Brian Brushwood : Hey gang. I’m so happy to release the much anticipated and eagerly awaited episode 80 with very special guest Brian Brushwood. Yes, THE Brian Brushwood (@shwood). Boo ya indeed. This was an entire episode of Void Filling goodness but for the beginning. We actually began as we do every week by voting for Mitt Romney. After that we let the good times roll and roll they did. Cesca got things running by reanimating her discussion of the new Tim Burton film Frankenwenie. Then Ben rolled down his window for a drive by discussion of Saints Row: The Third. He patched in Brian for a joint discussion of the recent episode of Sons Of Anarchy. This lead into a rum ham soaked discussion of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The Brian got us really excited to play Hawken.  We also spent some time talking about Extra Life, which is right around the corner. Braingasm Reviews: Looper: In this instalment of the popular Braingasm Reviews series, Ben is joined by Andrew Robinson (@gmanreviews) and Vincent Rivano (@theshiny1) to discus the newest film by director Rian Johnson (Brick, Brothers Bloom, that episode of Breaking Bad where they’re trying to kill the fly) Looper. Episode 79: STOREgasm Dos (Craig Watkins & Zak McDonald): In this our 79th episode of The Braingasm Podcast we are joined by two men: One of whom you should be very familiar with. The other Ben has seen naked…several times. Craig Watkins (@craigfwatkins) and Zak McDonald (@zakmcdonald) stopped by to talk about the recent premiere of their new film The Store (https://www.facebook.com/TheStoreMovie). We began as we do every week with Ben telling his Grandma to leave him alone while she dies… After that we wasted no time jumping into a discussion of the movie itself. Not to worry people who have yet to see it. Because of the small release and lack of global distribution we were smart enough to realize that most of you haven’t seen it. As such we kept the conversation nice and spoiler free, but also general enough that it can be enjoyed even without having actually seen it. After the “break” the conversation turned from the movie itself into a more general discussion of the movie industry and the corruption of the term “independent”. We were joined by locally and soon to be globally legendary Magician/Comedian Alex Kazam (Add him on facebook). We began as we do every week by blaming art for all of the world’s problems. This episode is an hour and a quarter conversation between Ben and Alex that covers topics as wild and varied as their views of show business, why magicians hate psychics, Alex’s history as a performer and a man, the importance of branding in the 21st century entertainment industry, and the Carson Couch. All the while the two were cracking jokes and keeping things fun and light while also being thought provoking and deep. Episode 77: Sons of Agony: In this our 77th episode (alliteration yay!) of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by the black Wesley Snipes, Shakyl (@the_gaming_king). We began as we do every week with Ben getting paranoid that someone is going to steal the podcast’s name. After that we BSed for a while about Breaking Bad, Breaking Bad haters, and other non-Breaking Bad topics as well.  That segued nicely into our What’s Been Filling Our Void section. After that Cesca Timey-Wimeyed us into submission with a discussion of the premiere of Dr. Who, and Dr. Who in general. Finally Shakyl and Ben drove by and riddled the season premiere of Sons Of Anarchy with criticism. Episode 75: Welcome To Snake Island : In this our 75th episode of the Braingasm Podcast we are joined by a new person who I’m sure you will come to love as much as we do, Kurt Hull  We began as we do every week with a brief description of SPIKE BOX! After that we got into a good ol’ fashioned Bs-athon which ended up taking up the entire first half of the show. This only ever happens because the conversation is just too damn fun to call to a close. Topics discussed include: Grantland’s Sequeltology, Ben’s experiences at Fan Expo, which celebrities are dicks, SNAKE ISLAND, Jurassic Park, Game of Thrones, and why reading is dumb.
