Creating a Morning Routine with Young Kids with Lindsay & Mike McCarthy | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2462

Creating a cohesive, successful and loving home environment starts with our leadership. Mike and Lindsay McCarthy are the authors of The Miracle Morning for Parents and Families, a beautiful accompaniment to Hal Elrod's The Miracle Morning for parents who have kids in the home. The book offers practical, sage wisdom for creating your ideal miracle morning even with kids interrupting and unique schedule concerns. In today's interview, we discuss what prompted the McCarthy's to make this change and transform their families life and how they have led hundreds of families to do the same! We review the concept SAVERS, an acronym that helps you remember the steps of a powerful morning routine, which creates a fool-proof guide to a successful miracle morning. We also help flesh out the why behind creating a morning routine with kids:) RELATED EPISODES Finding Motivation to Claim Your Personal Power Hour Make Your Morning Routine Happen!  Understanding Praise and How We Can Use It to Give Our Kids Confidence Instead of Insecurity | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3255

We all want our kids to feel confident. We want them to feel capable. In this episode, we delve into research on what words we use to encourage our kids. The concept of praise is a fascinating one, and some methods yield results that are opposite of what we intend. We discuss the difference between effort based praise and results based praise, and why it’s worth practicing the first. We also explore when it is really powerful to use identity praise when instilling values, and we describe how gratitude, love and authenticity are the keys in the end to helping our kids feel confident as we delight in their existence with them.  LINKS WE MENTIONED: Raising a Moral Child // NY Times Article Praising Children Risking Failure // Janet Lansbury 5 Surprising Ways  to Encourage Your Kids // Janet Lansbury Podcast: How Do I Build My Kids’ Confidence and Self Esteem RELATED EPISODES Growth Mindset is Crucial for Our Kids, but What About Us?  Thank you for the kind reviews!  Park Chat: Fostering Independence, Can I Selectively Ignore My Kid & Quiet Time Woes | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 4842

Have you ever been trying to leave the house when your toddler insists on attempting (unsuccessfully) to do up all of her buttons on her own shirt? Has your child ever asked you to “watch this!” 17 times in 5 minutes? Have you ever wondered how to actually transition into quiet time from naptime to claim a little bit of rejuvenation time in the day? In this episode, we have a friend to friend discussion like we have been having at parks for the last decade. The issues we talk about are ones that Katelin is currently facing and we get often from our listeners. It is a balancing act to try to allow age appropriate independence while still actually getting places. We also have tips on how to balance spending attention without spending all our time watching the new tricks our kids learn (wiggling toes while IN SHOES? Impressive…:). We also share our experience about the life saving quiet time habit, and what worked for us and what didn't. LINK WE MENTIONED: Johnson Files Instagram: Watch This!  Turns Out, We CAN'T Do It all. Enjoying Your Limited, Beautiful Life | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2858

“Any finite life — even the best one you could possibly imagine — is therefore a matter of ceaselessly waving goodbye to possibility.” –Oliver Burkman If we live to be 80 years old, that means we will live approximately 4000 weeks. Most people, when asked, guess a much higher number. We are, by nature of our mortal lives here on earth, limited in our experience of time. Realizing this is both humbling and liberating. Once we realize that we cannot do EVERYTHING (because it is impossible) and that the present moment is all we ever actually have (because even that limited 4000 number is not a guarantee), we can get onto truly living. Living now. Living fully. In this episode, we discuss how to try to balance holding a vision of what we want in the future while still  living in the present moment. There is freedom when we realize that we can honor the past and the future, and still recognize where we really are–which is right here, right now.  Magic Moment // Why Are We So Overwhelmed? | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 772

"Put the big rocks in first"; a brilliant analogy by a brilliant mind BUT what if there are just too many big rocks? How can we acknowledge the myth that we can do it all if only we prioritize the "main" things. With all the work we do here around value alignment and setting priorities our world just plain has too many things that we want to say yes to. Saying no to something we know isn't aligned isn't the hard thing, saying no to something we wish could be a yes IS THE THING. Often times we live on the brink of complete overwhelm because there are so many good things we would love to do. As mothers we also "should" ourselves right into the ground. Layering expectation onto ourselves until we have no room to breathe. How can we dig ourselves out from under this pile of big rocks and "should's"? In this episode we talk about the power of an embodied YES and how we can plan based on seasons of our lives. We also discuss recognizing the fuel you are running on (hint hint fear, shame, need for approval are all unsustainable fuel sources!).  RELATED EPISODES Guidance for the Changing Seasons of Motherhood The Martyr Effect.  How to Nurture Your Emotions and Create Your Future | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 7917

It is one thing to identify our emotions and investigate them, but how do we lean into what we are feeling without getting stuck there? Where do we go from there? Tara Brach, author, therapist, and teacher, calls this constant undercurrent of disillusion the trance of unworthiness. In this episode, we discuss her book, Radical Acceptance, and explore the antidotes she offers to this trance. It is possible to live from a place of accepting reality without judgment. In this episode, we address this issue and discuss how we can cultivate gratitude without layering on guilt for our kids. We also talk about one of our most common questions ever: yelling.
