215// Why We Get Triggered by Our Kids (& How To Do Better) with Jen Lumanlan | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:55:12

Parenting is overwhelming and unpredictable. Even in the best of times we can find ourselves reacting instead of responding to our kid's big emotions or perceived disobedience. We know that we are in charge of our internal landscape but often that feels much easier said than executed. Today Felica chats with host of Your Parenting Mojo, Jen Lumanlan about how we can identify and tame our internal triggers to create healthier relationships with our kids. This work often involves delving into our personal BIG T or little t trauma as well as "trauma" that is less obvious; we discuss how we can work with these triggers and how to do so in a safe space. We walk through 13 common reasons our kids "don't listen" and strategies for navigating this as well!  If you would like to dive deeper you can find the PDF HERE!  You can find more from Jen @yourparentingmojo  RELATED EPISODES Authoritative Parenting / Arguably the most EFFECTIVE Parenting Style  Holding Boundaries / Discipline Pt. 1 Systems and Values for Easier Days and Stronger Family Connections Parenting with Unconditional Love  How to Embrace Childhood  Review of the Week from Sydnee So good!!  214 // Compassion: Where Love Meets Suffering and Remains Love | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:33:37

We all go through hard times. People we love experience hard things. What do we do when we are faced with the suffering of others? It can be easy to either push it away because it is too painful to see, or we can go the other way and fully immerse ourselves in a way that is more enmeshment than compassion. In this episode, Taralyn shares some personal experiences that have recently invited her to delve deep into what it means to be compassionate. She uses the work of Brene Brown, Kristin Neff, and Chris Germer to define what compassion is, what it is not, and how to use the power of true compassion to love people in the middle of their suffering. While the sentiment of being defined by Motherhood can be endearing, in today's Magic Moment Felica discusses what she feels could be troubling with this conversation and how we can reframe ourselves as whole persons as opposed to defining ourselves inside a role. She discusses how defining ourselves in a finite role can create dissonance in our authentic self and how we can let go of control and see our multitudes to prevent tunnel vision in our parenting.  200 // Being Real: Navigating the Struggles AND the Joys of Parenthood Authentically | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:43:31

This is our 200th episode!!! Thank you all for your amazing support!!! We are soooo grateful for the most amazing listeners in the entire world:). Sometimes, it feels like it's the cool kid thing to do to complain about parenthood all the time. On the other hand, it can be easy to portray our children as heavenly cherubs who do no wrong and parentland as being full of only bliss.  It's a tricky balance to find between being honest about the fact that parenting isn’t unicorns and roses  all the time, but also realizing that it is also a great  honor and really meaningful work to engage in. In this episode, we talk about that balance and wrestle with how to be authentic to ourselves, recognizing and asking for help when it’s hard, and soaking in the moments of love and enjoyment when they come. We hope you leave it feeling like you aren’t alone in your struggles and in your joys. Parenting is full of both.  You Are More Than a Body | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:08:35

How do you feel about your body? We live in a world that prizes a narrow body ideal, and it is easy to find our own perceptions of ourselves swayed by this view. In this episode, we discuss the brilliant body image work of Lexie and Lindsay Kite in their book, More Than a Body. We discuss how we can leave the waters of self objectication, where we experience the world through an outsider’s perspective of our bodies, onto the firm land of embodiment, where we can truly experience life IN our bodies, through  our own experience of them. It’s a game changing concept. We address issues like positive body image, and agree that “Positive body image isn't believing your body looks good; it is knowing your body is good, regardless of how it looks.” It’s a revolutionary concept that we believe can change the world for the better for men and women, as we reject objectification and make peace with our bodies and experience truly living inside of ourselves.
