Lyndie Benson, Founder + Designer of Bleusalt — Glambition Radio Episode 155 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:41

This is a story of personal reinvention, as well as fashion innovation. Meet Lyndie Benson. You may not know her name, but her talents were behind the career of her husband for 30 years: saxophonist Kenny G. (Many don’t know that Lyndie named all of Kenny’s commercially successful albums and names of the songs, as well as designed most of the album covers.) But when their marriage came to an end a few years ago, she decided it was high time to put her own creative passions first. Her sustainable luxury fashion brand Bleusalt is barely a few years out of the gate, but it’s chic, relaxed, eco-style has already drawn the attention of celebs like Cindy Crawford and Patrick Dempsey. But how did she go from having no experience in the fashion industry to starting a direct-to-consumer fashion brand? It started with discovering a piece of super soft fabric made from a beechwood tree. On today’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, I have Lyndie walk me through how she began the process from idea to launch, step by step. And you’ll appreciate her biggest a-ha moment — she realized she didn’t have to truly start from scratch; she already had years of valuable experience and was able to put it to use founding Bleusalt. On the show, we also discuss: *How Lyndie believes focusing on how you want to *feel* is moreimportant than what you want to do (this is how Bluesalt was born) *How Bleusalt is unlike any other sustainable luxury brands on the market (and how that led to dozens of Malibu-based celebrities to fall in love with the brand — this is key) *Why she still insists on managing all of Bleusalt’s social media personally, as well as receiving customer emails *About that collaboration between Patrick Dempsey and Bleusalt (how this happened is a fun story—and SO Malibu ;)) *How social media is like the equivalent to a “store window” when you have a direct-to-consumer business *The key in standing out from the crowd easily (you have to hear this) *What’s next for Lyndie and Bleusalt… Lyndie and I also cover the importance of following your passion, why you should know your value, and to have confidence in putting yourself out there. You’re not going to want to miss this episode. Lyndie’s power entrepreneur story is the perfect example of what happens when you follow your passions.  Lauren Zander, Creator of the Handel Method — Glambition Radio Episode 154 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:41

Lauren Zander (formerly Handel) started her career the same as many of us did — she took a desk job straight out of college, wanting to save the world. She hated the job, but she discovered that she had a knack for helping people solve their problems, so she began coaching people through their struggles. But there is a lot to Lauren’s story of growth, both on the business and personal side. She shares it all, along with her powerful advice, on this episode of Glambition Radio. I have Lauren walk me through the beginning of how she started and grew her multimillion-dollar firm, as well as what comprises her groundbreaking methodology, The Handel Method®, which teaches clients to ‘hack into their own mainframe to redesign their life’. Clients come to her for coaching around their work lives but also their relationships, families… even their sex lives. We also dive into Lauren’s book “Maybe It’s You: Cut the Crap, Face Your Fears, Love Your Life”, which, as you can guess by the title, is a no-B.S. approach to fixing what’s not working in your life and turning things around. The author, university lecturer, and public speaker is also a contributor to several publications and media outlets, including The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Self, Women’s Health, Marie Claire, and The Huffington Post. Lauren has also led seminars and conferences all over the world for World Bank, the US Department of Justice for Judges, Rodale Publishing, and Donna Karan’s Urban Zen, just to name a few. On this episode of #GlambitionRadio, we also discuss: * How Lauren has effectively been able to generate constant press in recent years—it’s not just having a publicist  * The magic tips she uses to network and grow her clientele list. (On the show she tells a story on how she landed one high-profile client at a cocktail party.) * The importance of following through when making a new connection (this is crucial when networking, and many seem to neglect doing it) * Lauren’s thoughts on the current political climate and leadership in our country and how we should respond * The one thing Lauren wishes women did more of (this is key to her teachings) * What “personal pollution” is, and why it’s important to recognize * What happens when you’re okay with humiliation and rejection * The benefits of taking an improv class for your life and business And more. On the show Lauren and I also discuss why you should make a promise and put a consequence on it, why you should NOT try to change a man, and why you should be honest with yourself if you’re not feeling challenged in your career.  ‘The Stuff We Don’t Talk About’ — Glambition Radio Episode 153 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:18

We’re doing something different this week with a SHOW FLIP! A few weeks ago I appeared as a guest on my client Eleanor Beaton’s ‘Fierce Feminine Leadership’ podcast, and we got into such juicy stuff, I wanted to make sure you heard it right here on GlambitionRadio.com. And here it is. I am calling this episode ‘The Stuff We Don’t Talk About’, because it delves into much of the unspoken things we deal with as our success accelerates faster and reaches higher. On this #GlambitionRadio, you’ll hear us rant on topics such as: * How too much information and too many courses are screwing with everyone’s heads and making them overthink everything with their business—and locking them into outdated models and revenue caps * Why I decided to shut down many of my large training programs a few years ago, and instead dedicate time and space to get ‘reoriented’ back into my true genius work * How Eleanor unbelievably got HATERS after explaining on her blog how she delegates email to an assistant. (Think about this: Would that have happened if she was a man? Hint: No.) * A great TIP on how to negate that weird “mom guilt” when you know it’s time to hire help around the house for your family. (But it’s gotta happen. For many of my clients who are the high earners of their families, this is an absolute non-negotiable.) * How a Madonna concert I saw at age 13 changed my life forever * Why change is messy, and you have to remember that in the middle of a lifesaving surgery it always looks like a murder * Why I’ve always made sure my business growth follows my personal growth, and what happens when I ignore that * And more. ***By the way, I was VERY free-flowing with my language on this interview so this is NOT one to listen to with the kids around, LOL! I was on fire.*** If you aren’t familiar with Eleanor, you should be. I consider her one of the foremost women’s leadership experts in North America today. When I first heard her teachings in 2015 as a guest on her podcast, I thought ‘Finally… someone is approaching this from a higher and extremely practical level’. And today, I’m honored she’s one of my ongoing Premier clients. (Who has quickly accelerated to a 7-figure business since she started working with me in 2017. Boom.) Through her trainings, mentorships, and keynotes, Eleanor advises senior executive women on developing the skills they need to amplify their voices and take their seats at the tables where the big decisions are made.  Eleanor will also be at my ICONIC 2.0 event happening here in Phoenix on November 7+8, 2018, so many of you will get to meet her in person. Waitlist at IconicWithAliBrown.com. Enjoy, and if you liked this episode please share with your community! Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  Zainab Salbi, Activist + Author of “Freedom is an Inside Job” — Glambition Radio Episode 152 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:57

Activist and social entrepreneur Zainab Salbi has dedicated her life to helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives and communities. As a victim herself of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein’s abuse, Zainab immigrated to the U.S., and at only 23 she founded Women for Women International. But here’s why I REALLY wanted to have her on the show today… Despite an incredibly impactful career helping women find their freedom, Zainab didn’t feel free herself. In creating and growing this huge mission, her role within the organization had become ‘her own monster’. She found herself eventually working so hard and so unfulfilled that she neared a complete breakdown. And on this powerful episode of #GlambitionRadio, Zainab shares the insightful realization she had: She needed to share her secrets in order to find her power. (Listen now at GlambitionRadio.com to understand what she means.) On the show, I have Zainab walk us through how she was able to tell her truth, fully and authentically, all of which is documented in her latest book “Freedom is an Inside Job”. And it’s an honor to have her on the show today, as I was so in awe of meeting her on Richard Branson’s Necker Island seven years ago during a private ‘New Frontiers in Philanthropy’ event. (I tell the story in the show intro.) Having been named as one of the women changing the world by leading publications such as Newsweek to People Magazine, Zainab’s 30-year career has empowered women and marginalized voices around the world. Today Zainab is the Executive Editor and host of the acclaimed PBS series “#MeToo, Now What”, as well as “The Zainab Salbi Project” with The Huffington Post and AOL, and “The Nida’a Show” with TLC Arabia. On the show, we also discuss: *The moment she knew it was time to step down from leading Women for Women International, but how terrified she was to admit it (this is something we all need to hear) *Why you DON’T have to compromise yourself for your “goal” (she says even your biggest dreams won’t require you to self-sacrifice—wow—this a new feminine leadership manifesto) *How contraction can be just as valuable as expansion – especially as you’re reaching your goals (you won’t hear this anywhere else) *The need for a new value system—for the sake of ourselves… and the world    Zainab and I also discuss the importance of carving out time for yourself every day, why you should stop making yourself small to make others happy, and the significance to dare to do what you believe is true.  I know you’ll get something out of this episode! Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). Xo Ali P.S. Zainab latest book “Freedom is an Inside Job” was just released on October 2 — be sure you order your copy here.

Christy Whitman, Coach + Author of ‘Quantum Success’ — Glambition Radio Episode 151 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:53

My guest this week used to be unhappy in just about every area of her life. She was 30 pounds overweight, nearly $60,000 in debt working a job she hated, and she believed, like most do, that if her external circumstances shifted, she’d finally be happy. But she discovered it was actually time to look inward. And that led Christy Whitman on a trajectory of not only changing her life, but becoming a renowned transformational coach and two-time New York Times best-selling author. If you’re feeling in a “rut” with your business (or within yourself!), this #GlambitionRadio episode is a must listen! On the show Christy shares how we are currently in the “age of abundance” and we have the power to either attract or repel energy. In other words, YOU can manifest your dreams right here and now, and her recipe for success is shared in her new book ‘Quantum Success: 7 Essential Laws for a Thriving, Joyful and Prosperous Relationship with Work and Money’. Through Christy’s personalized coaching programs, she has helped thousands of people from around the world achieve their goals. She has appeared on The Today Show and The Morning Show and her work has been featured in People Magazine, Seventeen, and other publications, to name a few. On the show, Christy and I discuss: *How she dug deep to find out what was causing her anxiety… instead of trying to suppress the feeling *The critical concept of the upward spiral of success (I LOVE this, and haven’t heard it described this way before) *How to own your power to create your own thoughts *Why to choose ALIGNMENT over linear goals (this echoes what I’ve been sharing for the last few years; spot on) *Why you need to give yourself permission to let go (especially if it’s draining your energy) Christy and I also discuss the importance shifting negative thoughts into abundance, why we need to create a vision statement for our life and business, as well as whether you should self-publish a book or try to score a deal with a big publishing house. Don’t miss this insightful show. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  Petra Kolber, Author of The Perfection Detox + Fitness Expert — Glambition Radio Episode 150 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:22

It was 1996. The Macarena was in full swing. Prince Charles and Princess Diana finalized their divorce. Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise debuted in theaters worldwide. And Reebok STEP was in full fitness force. I know because I was an instructor. And when I first moved to New York, I mailed a letter to this fantastic British woman I’d seen in the STEP videos. Her name was Petra Kolber. I wanted to see if—by some crazy chance—she’d be willing to have coffee with little ol’ Ali Brown, as I was considering teaching classes in the city. To my amazement, she responded with a YES, and… well, you have to hear the details in today’s #GlambitionRadio. Because you see, we then pretty much forgot about each other. Then, fast forward to this past May, I received a lovely letter from a woman named Petra Kolber, saying she had a new book coming out and would love to be on my show. She didn’t realize I was the same Ali Brown. And I didn’t recognize her name at first. You have to hear the story! And now… here we are. And I LOVE her new book: The Perfection Detox: Tame Your Inner Critic, Live Bravely, and Unleash Your Joy. If you’ve ever felt like you're not enough or you’re not doing enough, you are going to love her message she shares on today’s show. I have Petra walk us through how her career as an internationally renowned fitness expert (including being the global face and voice of Reebok) led to her having panic attacks and craving something more. This led to her writing The Perfection Detox — her 21-step process reveals how we can let go of perfectionism and gain our freedom back. On the show, we also discuss: * exactly what is standing in between you and your potential *how to tell if perfectionism is hurting or helping you (it can do both) *the importance of tuning in to the static between your heart and your head *how the pitfalls of social media relate to our perfectionist tendencies (and how to curb them) *how our heart can’t separate the difference between what we're seeing ‘on screen’ and what we're really going through in life (and what to do about it) * the best bit of advice she received at the beginning of her career (it’s simple but SO true) * details about Petra’s 10-year career as a fitness athlete, traveling around the world with Reebok *Petra’s thoughts on the importance of the need for women entrepreneurs especially to detox from toxic perfectionism Petra and I also discuss the importance of asking for help, why you shouldn’t take it personally if someone says no, and why you should stay humble, enjoy the ride, and serve your success forward. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And be sure to check out her book at petrakolber.com/book-the-perfection-detox. Xo Ali P.S.  Angelique Rewers, CEO of The Corporate Agent — Glambition Radio Episode 149 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:46

After pulling all-nighters in her job at a global corporate consulting firm, a major hospitalization woke up Angelique Rewers to seek her own path. Her first step was launching her own boutique agency. But today, as The Corporate Agent, she mentors entrepreneurs from around the world helping them land corporate contracts. She’s sharing her journey on the show today, step by step. And I’m honored that on this episode of #GlambitionRadio, Angelique also reveals how pivotal my coaching was during that big transition she made. (In some ways I didn’t even realize until our conversation today.) Angelique and her team have trained and mentored more than 3,500 start-ups and self-employed professionals across 72+ countries in how to land and work with corporate clients. Her insights have led organizations such as USAID, National Geographic, and The Smithsonian to seek her consulting for entrepreneurs across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. And she’s been featured in Forbes, The Washington Post, CBS, and many more media outlets. On the episode, we also discuss: *the moment she took in a huge criticism lobbed at her and transformed it into a huge advantage *how she’s built critical relationships with the media to get unusually high coverage on her brand and business (this insight alone is worth hearing the episode) *how to stand out within all the noise out there — and your answer is NOT ‘more content’ (I agree wholeheartedly on this one) *why when everyone else is zigging, you have to zag, and how she made this decision when everyone else was telling her to ‘blend in’ *the ripple effect she experienced after speaking at my SHINE event in 2010 (she walks through the evolution of herself and her business) *why saying YES to everything will HURT your business *And how it really is working with your husband while managing twin 9-year-olds!  Angelique and I also discuss the importance of leaning into BOLD decision making, why you should be comfortable in your own skin, and coming to terms with the fact that you will make mistakes, (and that’s okay). I know you’ll get a lot out of this episode. So head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download for later). Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  Sheri Salata, Former President of Oprah Winfrey Network + Harpo — Glambition Radio Episode 148 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:17

Sheri Salata had a dream job that many would kill for — a 20-year exhilarating career serving as Executive Producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, and later as the Co-President of Harpo Studios and OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. On this #GlambitionRadio episode, I first have Sheri walk us through how she landed her dream job with Oprah. (She explains how it was destiny.) And then, why she recently decided to make the biggest ‘exit’ of her life. You’ll love how real and delightful she is in sharing the juicy details of this story. My favorite fact? Sheri finally landed the initial position with O’s team when they were cleaning out an old closet and found her resume and VHS tape, and asked if she could come in to interview for a producer position. And that’s when she knew, this was it. Being the Executive Producer for Oprah may sound glamorous, but Sheri shares how she sacrificed for the high-pressure job. (It sounds like she barely slept in 20 years!) But would she do it all again? YES. Because it led her in the direction to what I call her ‘iconic work’. Today, Sheri hosts the popular ‘This is Fifty’ podcast with her soulmate friend of 28 years, Nancy Hala, which is all about recreating the middle of your life. The duo are also chief visionaries of The Pillar Life, which offers simple strategies to help transform and balance our lives. Sheri has been named one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business, one of The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Power 100, and a winner of the 2017 Feminist Press Power Award. But it’s her candidness about her career highs and lows on today’s episode of Glambition Radio that speaks to all of us. On the show, you’ll also hear us discuss: *How the compass for most of Sheri’s life has been misery (misery!!) but how she uses that to then create happiness * Why her 20s and 30s were a ‘total sh-- show’ (this had me cracking up!) before she found her big calling * How her jobs with O seemed so glamorous from the outside, but they were really nonstop intensity, deadlines, and overnighters.  (Wow…) * What REALLY went down during the creation of OWN (the cable network) and how they dealt with all the negative news reports in the beginning * Her transition from an insane pace and literally working in the dark to entrepreneurship: She’s now in charge of her creations, schedule, and desires. * Her view on life: ‘What if 50 was the middle?’ What if there’s so much more to come? (I loved this and it had me in tears, as I’m just a few years away from 50 myself)  * The secret Hollywood health retreat where she went to detox after closing this chapter of her career, in order to feel like she was making a fresh start * Why Sheri doesn’t use the word ‘work’ (she calls it something else very interesting instead) Sheri and I also cover the importance of continually pushing yourself to make your biggest dreams come true, how that little voice in your head is a story and you have the power to change it, and how you are what you dream. You don’t want to miss this powerful interview. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). Xo Ali P.S. Sheri and Nancy are bringing together their favorite teachers, experts, and thought leaders for a weekend of inspiring workshops at an upcoming LIVE retreat NEXT WEEK... You can learn more here!

Amanda Tress, Founder of FASTer Way To Fat Loss  — Glambition Radio Episode 147 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:35

You’re about to hear an insightful interview from one of my top clients. But on this show you’re going to hear a very personal story from me, Ali Brown, of how I lost 25 pounds over the last three months, and it was easier and more enjoyable than I ever thought possible. (Have a peek at FASTerwayWithAli.com) Since having my twins, I kind of settled into my new weight, thinking I would have to suffer incredibly to get back toward my previous size, so I wasn’t interested in any of it. But then a new client came to coach with me last summer, and her name was Amanda Tress. I’d never heard of her, or the concept of intermittent fasting, but man…  her business was on fire! Apparently her program the FASTer Way was helping thousands of women become super fat burners by way of her proprietary system that combines intermittent fasting with Paleo eating, carb cycling, and rotating workouts (even for beginners). If it sounds intimidating, it was at first. But even doing most of the recommendations — admittedly not all — I literally saw my body changing in the first two weeks! And I’m still going strong. >>> Many of my clients have been asking what I’ve been doing, so I want to invite you to join me on the next round with Amanda at www.FASTerwayWithAli.com. We’ll do a special Zoom call where she and I will privately answer all your questions, and I can share more about my experience with you there. Be sure to use my link, or we won’t know you should be part of the Zoom group. Recent studies shared by the New York Times have revealed that intermittent fasting —confining your eating to a shorter window of time such as Noon to 8pm—is not only helping people burn more fat, but has other health benefits as well. And when you combine this winning method with the other factors in Amanda’s unique program, you have a killer combo that can change your body faster than you thought was possible. On this episode of Glambition Radio, I have Amanda walk us through her own body transformation, but also how she has taken her business from the multiple six-figures when we first met last summer to now a multi-million dollar company ($$$), in less than a year. Keep in mind the fitness/wellness space is an ultra competitive one. And Amanda braved a lot of criticism forseveral years from ‘experts’ who didn’t agree with her program. But now, many of those ‘experts’ are copying what she’s doing and trying to do the same thing. Because it works. (Amanda shares very openly on the show how she deals with and continues to deal with blatant copycats.) >>> Many of my clients have been asking what I’ve been doing, so I want to invite you to join me on the next round with Amanda at www.FASTerwayWithAli.com. We’ll do a special Zoom call where she and I will privately answer all your questions, and I can share more about my experience with you there. Be sure to use my link, or we won’t know you should be part of the Zoom group. On the show, we also discuss: * Amanda goes into detail about making a big decision to shut down her very lucrative digital marketing agency in order to focus on FASTer Way (and her business has grown by over 300% since she’s let it go) * How to cope when family and close friends may not understand or support what your business is all about (it’s sad, but she says the key is to “bless and release”) * How to handle others in your field copying your work (Amanda shares what she did when someone literally copied and pasted her program word-for-word!) * her thoughts on the unhealthy diet plans and workouts that we are constantly bombarded with on social media — and how to avoid them (for example, she explains why eating low-carb nonstop is not good for you) * How she has relied on social proof to scale her business (she posts testimonials on a daily basis — this is key) * The importance of diversifying your revenue streams so you ca...

Kim Lyons, Celebrity Trainer + Founder of Bionic Body — Glambition Radio Episode 146 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:13

You know her as a star trainer on ‘The Biggest Loser’, founder of the Bionic Body brand (sold nationwide including in Target), and an all-around famous fitness inspiration. But did you know that Kim Lyons’ secret to success was… failure? Yes. On this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, she shares the REAL story of how she went from flight school(!) graduate to personal trainer to NBC primetime and then creator of her own destiny with her own brand and mission. I have to say this was one of the most enjoyable conversations I’ve had on #GlambitionRadio, because Kim didn’t hesitate to share the things we REALLY want to know… like how the Biggest Loser opportunity happened, what it was truly like, how she felt when she wasn’t asked back for a third season, what made her decide to create her own line of products (her answer may surprise you), and how she’s feeling more excited than ever at age 45… breaking into the true destiny of her career and brand. Get to know the story behind Kim’s go-for-it attitude and get inspired on today’s Glambition Radio. On the show, we also discuss: * how she went to the Biggest Loser audition right after receiving the call — straight from the beach, and with no agent, no manager, nothing! (And she almost left the room three times.) * why her first season of BL actually didn’t happen – the producers called the night before she was going to start taping to say ‘it fell through’ because Jillian Michaels was returning to the show (I never knew this part of the story—your heart will drop for how Kim must have felt) * what it was like to go from 0 to 60 on the fame meter without any TV experience (and with the public constantly monitoring her… no way could she enjoy an occasional burger and fries!) * how she approached creating training equipment especially for women (no one had done it well yet, but it wasn’t as easy as she thought either) * how she struggled with the immense controversy surrounding ‘The Biggest Loser’ (it took 3 years for her to understand the mission of the show and how she played a part in it) * how she graduated flight school to become a pilot and literally overnight she decided that it wasn’t what she wanted to be doing (love that she wasn’t afraid to change course) * how she said yes on a whim to investing in becoming a certified personal trainer —even though it cost the same as her rent for the month (I love this story because I believe women shift at a cellular level when the decide to invest in themselves)  * how she ended up winning the Ms. Galaxy competition despite everyone telling her she didn’t stand a chance at winning. (By the way, I love that she also ended up marrying Mr. Universe — no joke.) On this episode of #GlambitionRadio, Kim and I also discuss why you shouldn’t be afraid to refocus your goals, the importance of putting your health first and not feeling guilty for doing so, and why everyone should take just 10 minutes a day to focus on their passion. You really don’t want to miss this one. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  ‘The Keys to Becoming ICONIC’ — Glambition Radio Episode 145 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:00

Today I’m handing you a sneak preview of the content I’ll be leading at my upcoming workshop, ‘ICONIC with Ali Brown’, happening in Phoenix on November 7+8. (Learn more at www.IconicWithAliBrown.com) And I want you to listen closely… the advice enclosed within is CRITICAL to hear for those of you who are beyond the beginning years of your business. In past episodes, I’ve addressed the online insanity and overflowing market saturation and noise we’re encountering in most every industry. And in this show, I’m going to show you how to not only position yourself way beyond that mess, but also how to start feeling into the powerful next chapter of your career. Listen now to this urgent information at www.GlambitionRadio.com. On this solo episode of #GlambitionRadio, I share:  * The epidemic of businesses (and especially coaches) who have become ‘focus-grouped contemporary.’ (I love this phrase lifted from the fashion industry. Essentially it means designed for the masses, safe, average, expected. No edge or advantage.) * Why disrupting not only your industry but your own model is the key to your next big level of growth * How beating your competition is the LAST objective you should be focusing on (this may be good news to many of you tired of ‘seeing too much’) * Why SACRIFICE is the power behind any true ICON of her industry—but it’s not the kind of sacrifice you may be thinking you have to make * What METRICS you need to stop counting if you’re not a mass market, consumer business * How important this concept is and how to approach it: Purposeful Positioning > Purposeful Perception™ * What my Porsche salesman said that taught me about positioning a brand uniquely * The second ‘dark night of the soul’ that many women entrepreneurs experience after reaching great success, and that happens right before their true, ICONIC work is birthed. (Oooo… this is a juicy one.) This is one you don’t want to miss. Listen now or download for later at www.GlambitionRadio.com. But note there is some time-sensitive information on this show as well… If you meet the qualifications, I invite you to join me LIVE in November for ‘ICONIC with Ali Brown’.  Kate White, Best-Selling Author + Former Editor-in-Chief of ‘Cosmopolitan’ — Glambition Radio Episode 144 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:24

She spent 14 years as the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, where she increased overall circulation by 30%, making Cosmo the #1 magazine in the U.S during that time. But I’m having Kate back on the show because her career books have changed my life since I began reading them in the mid-90s. And you’ll hear all about her latest ‘Gutsy Girl Handbook’, on this week’s episode of Glambition Radio. During our conversation, she dives into why NOW was the right time to release this book, and I couldn’t agree more. On today’s episode, Kate shares the importance of badass, impactful ideas. You may have a successful business or career, but it’s simply not enough to do what you’ve been told, or to do what you’ve always done. The key is to take it to that next level ahead of everyone else— actively come up with bold, innovative, and disruptive ideas. (Don’t wait until a problem needs to be solved.) In one example, Kate breaks down how she heard an ad on the radio about how melanoma was the fastest growing cancer in women… and then turned that into a multi-million dollar awareness campaign for Cosmo. She didn’t wait around for permission; she just did it. Hear the full story of how Kate created this forward-thinking campaign. Not only did Kate turn Cosmo’s sales numbers around and dedicate her career to helping empower women in the workplace, but from there on she became a New York Times best-selling author of 12 (twelve!) murder mysteries and thrillers. I ask her point blank how she went from crafting headlines about sexual positions to writing detailed suspense novels. (Her answer may surprise you!) On the show, we also discuss: *Why you should never deviate from your brand DNA (I love this because I had to reclaim my own) *When you should say yes… and then figure it out later (don’t talk yourself out of opportunities) *Why the mark of a leader is to act in a crisis – not go all quiet when s*** hits the fan *Why, like it or not, your appearance is critical when it comes to your career success (she’ll share an interesting stat with you) *Why you need to ask for what you want… ‘even if there is a good reason not to’ (that last part grabbed me!) *How women tend to wait for the ‘perfect moment’ to go after their goals, but we need to ignore that instinct *How she spends her winters in Uruguay with her honey (love this idea — we all need a love shack to mix it up a bit) On this episode of #GlambitionRadio, Kate and I also discuss why you shouldn’t forget about the big picture when you’re thinking about your day-to-day, why we need to listen more than we talk, and why you shouldn’t just ask for more money, but also ask for the juicy opportunities. Think about your legacy, your impact — who do you want to become? I’m delighted to have Kate back on the show sharing her career wisdom. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And don’t forget to pick up a copy of her new ‘Gutsy Girl Handbook’. Xo Ali P.S.  Randi Zuckerberg, Founder of Zuckerberg Media + Author of ‘Pick Three’ — Glambition Radio Episode 143 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:58

Since leaving Facebook in 2011, Randi Zuckerberg has piled up a varied stack of her own accomplishments, including a weekly tech radio show, two TV shows, a series of angel investments, producing three Broadway shows, and even a six-week stint starring Rock of Ages. It’s been a wild ride since she decided to embrace her creative personality and take a different road than her family name would seem to dictate. But she fast learned that entrepreneurship combined with motherhood came with incredible demands of time and bandwidth. How to manage? Even with good help and a great team? The businesswoman, mother of two, and author realized even back in her single tech days that we live in a culture that celebrates busyness and working harder (no matter the cost). And that’s a problem. Her solution? Pick three. It’s a refreshing take on prioritizing, and she’s here to talk about it today on Glambition Radio. And her new book goes into this process in detail: ‘Pick Three: You Can Have It All (Just Not Every Day)’. Work, sleep, fitness, family, friends — instead of trying to accomplish all five things every day, Randi believes in picking the three most important areas to focus on in any ONE given day, and do them incredibly well. This is a great conversation with an amazing woman— you don’t want to miss this episode of #GlambitionRadio. Randi is passionate about the intersection of tech and media and through Zuckerberg Media she is inspiring kids to embrace the power of technology to bring them closer to their goals and what they love. She currently hosts a weekly tech business show called Dot Complicated on SiriusXM and has two TV shows: ‘DOT’ on NBC Universal Kids (winner of Kidscreen's Best New Preschool Series) and ‘American Dreams’ on HSN, highlighting entrepreneurs around the country. On the show, we also discuss: * How multiple mentors in Silicon Valley told her that she should be less interesting and try to fit in more if she wanted to be successful in tech (you have to hear what she learned from this) * How turning off distractions for just a few hours can help you produce your best work (Gals, put down the phone and give yourself some uninterrupted time. You deserve it) * Why we need to STOP making the work/balance conversation a gendered conversation (Randi emphasizes this is a topic for everyone – it shouldn’t be seen as taboo for anyone to be equally passionate about their work AND family) * How her tech-promoting work through Zuckerberg Media goes hand in hand with the message behind ‘Pick Three’ (mindfulness is the key) * Why it’s never the right time to start a business, but you should go for it anyway (she says the time truly is now) * How being cast in the Broadway hit show Rock of Ages led Randi to rediscover her creativity (even if that meant going out of her comfort zone) * She also lets us in on the three broadway shows she is producing right now (and how she’s enjoying being a voter for the Tony Awards— I loved hearing about this process) On this episode of Glambition Radio, Randi and I also discuss how we prioritize our work with both having two young children, and why we need to leverage the things that make us unique in our business and our life. You’re going to love getting to know this unexpectedly creative techy with the famous last name. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And be sure to grab a copy of Randi’s new book, 'Pick Three: You Can Have It All (Just Not Every Day)’. Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  Fran Hauser, Author of “The Myth of the Nice Girl” — Glambition Radio Episode 142 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:40

When Fran Hauser was at People magazine nine years ago, she noticed a common question from the women she was mentoring: ‘How can you be so NICE and still be so successful?’ As women know all too well, the balance between being nice and being assertive is like walking a tightrope. The issue came up yet again when she wrote an article for Forbes called “Nice Girls Finish First” and surprise, surprise, the article resonated with women from around the world. Realizing the issue extended beyond her own network, Fran wrote her just-released “The Myth of the Nice Girl”. And we are so glad that she did. On today’s episode of Glambition Radio, she discusses how the book’s topic came at just the right time, considering the current cultural climate we are in, and how you can be both nice and not compromise your work. Fran has previously held senior positions at some of the world’s largest digital media businesses, such as Time Inc., People, InStyle, AOL, Moviefone, and Entertainment Weekly. Today, she is an angel investor largely investing in female founders and has been featured in Vogue.com, Ad Age, CNBC, just to name a few. On the show, we also discuss: *How it’s possible to be a strong leader while also being a caring one — you don’t have to choose. *What Fran did to professionally handle a workplace situation when a senior male executive made an inappropriate comment in a group meeting (listen and learn from this!) *How she got started investing in consumer-focused companies and what she looks  for in a company before she invests (great advice) *Why you should sometimes give people the benefit of the doubt… even in tricky situations *How Fran harnessed the power of vulnerability to write her new book *How she used humor to effectively assert her needs at a job early on in her career (more great learning points!) *Why Fran turned DOWN a high-paying corner office job a few years ago, after doing some soul-searching (I love this story) On this episode of #GlambitionRadio, Fran and I also discuss why being nice and being strong are not mutually exclusive, why it’s important to bring your whole self to work, and the ultimate form of empathy. You really don’t want to miss this one. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later).  Shelley Zalis, Founder + CEO of The Female Quotient and The Girls’ Lounge — Glambition Radio Episode 141 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:44

In the middle of the World Economic Forum at Davos, you may come across an intimate oasis of women who are connecting, doing deals, having a great time, and enjoying a bit of respite from the huge majority of men wandering the town in gray suits. And you’ll see The Girls’ Lounge founder Shelley Zalis enjoying every minute of it. She got the idea for the Girls’ Lounge in 2013 while walking the floor of the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. Women were the vast minority there, and she saw them craving a “safe” space to relax from the overly male vibe. The concept emphasizes mentorship and women working together to create change, and has now connected 17,000+ professional women globally at major conferences around the world including Davos, SXSW, CES, and more. Hear her powerful story on this episode of #GlambitionRadio. Shelley’s aim is to create the largest community of corporate women and female entrepreneurs transforming workplace culture. As the first female chief executive ranked in the research industry’s top 25, Shelley changed the game, helped elevate feminine values in the workplace and has devoted herself to becoming a mentor and role model to women and leaders in her industry. Her motto is “when you put women in any equation, the equation gets better,” and I couldn’t agree more. Shelley left the corporate world to pioneer online research. She created OTX (Online Testing Exchange), which in nine years became one of the largest and fastest growing research companies in the world. She soon started mentoring women in the research industry and then in 2015, Shelley launched The Female Quotient, committed to advancing gender equality in the workplace through collaboration, activating solutions for change, and creating measurements for accountability. You’ll hear her passion for the power of bringing confidence to women the workplace (and her great sense of humor) on this episode of Glambition Radio. On the show, we also discuss: * What “heartbeat” moments are and how Shelley’s led her to resign from her job and rewrite the corporate rules (we all need this reminder to follow our heart) * How she went from hearing that “it wasn’t the right time for her idea” to doing it anyway… and becoming the only female CEO in the top 25 of her industry * The story behind how she coined the term “the power of the pack” (I love this) * The three pillars of The Female Quotient (Hint: A woman alone has power, together we have impact) * How seeing so many organizations doing the same thing separately led to her seeing the power in collaboration (when women work together magic happens) * How The Female Quotient plans to roll out to university campuses in 122 countries to further connect women leaders * And, a touching story on how a young lady from Rwanda changed her life, and just weeks ago got to present her with a Matrix Award (she begins with this beautiful full-circle story) On this episode of Glambition Radio, Shelley and I also discuss why it’s important to have purpose in your DNA, why we need to bring femininity to the workplace with no apologies, and why it’s important to discover your strength and your personal genius.
