Rebecca Minkoff, Fashion Designer + Founder of The Female Founder Collective — Glambition Radio Episode 169 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:19

A cut-up t-shirt she designed in her apartment helped launch Rebecca Minkoff’s entire fashion empire over 20 years ago, and it’s still thriving. But I was even more interested in having RM herself on #GlambitionRadio this week to discuss her new venture designed to assist other female founders. It started with a simple question to a VC firm who wanted her to invest: ‘May I see a list of your female-founded companies?’ When they couldn’t easily provide one, she knew it was an opportunity. She shares her brilliant solution and why its relevant more than ever on this inspiring episode at GlambitionRadio.com.   Rebecca’s network of women mentors, supporters and colleagues had always been instrumental in her success. And she knew that 82% of women are more likely to support female-founded brands… if only it was made easier to do so. So Rebecca created the Female Founder Collective: a network and directory of businesses led by women and supporting women. You’ll hear Rebecca’s big plans for this collective — plus, how you can join and get involved — on #GlambitionRadio. She also shares why she stopped hosting formal fashion shows and took a ‘sharp right turn’ (as I call it) to launch I Am Many. This powerful campaign is a far cry from the conventional runway show: It uses video to highlight diverse women’s stories, while promoting Rebecca’s latest fashion collections. On today’s episode, we also discuss: *The FULL story on how that first t-shirt ended up launching her entire business… and how it appeared on Jay Leno (without her!) *The inspiration behind her first handbag (let’s all flash back to our Carrie Bradshaw days in NYC ;)) *The importance of scarcity in today’s market (and how you can use it to take calculated risks in your business) *Rebecca’s advice for how — and when — to branch out (without diluting your brand or specialty) *The silver lining to our current political climate (and how it galvanized Rebecca to think differently about her legacy) *What happened when she her dad for a business loan.. and he said no! *Why it felt “extraordinarily materialistic” to do fashion as usual… and how that led her to think differently *Why Rebecca doesn’t splash her name or initials across her handbags and clothing (I love this) Head to Apple Podcasts and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And make sure to apply to join the Female Founder Collective now and become part of the movement. Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  Kelly Roach, Business Growth Coach — Glambition Radio Episode 168 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:38

‘Nothing is worth this.’ That’s how my client Kelly Roach describes the moment she knew the madness had to stop. She had the launch plans, landing pages, and email funnels for her successful coaching business, but not only was it becoming less effective — she was burning out. Today on GlambitionRadio.com, Kelly reveals how she threw out all the formulas, simplified everything, and created her ‘Live Launch’ model, which is working better than ever. What I love about Kelly’s model is that it relies on intuition and human connection… and it works. Because although we’re plugged in 24/7, studies show that people feel more disconnected and alone than ever. It’s time to forget the formulas and automation and ‘best practices’ (designed by the guys) and bring it back to interacting with real people and actually serving them — not yourself. And, you have to hear how Kelly’s prior corporate experience in a cutthroat, aggressive industry gave her the skills and tenacity to build her business. On today’s #GlambitionRadio, we also discuss: *Why human connection is the new strategy (and how you can connect at scale from your living room and smartphone) *How online marketing today is at ‘peak bullsh*t’ — and how you can stand out from the noise *Why you need to think 10 years ahead of where you are today, and what you need to pull you toward the future (no more pushing) *How an entire generation of well-intentioned ‘coaches’ are becoming irrelevant… because they’re abusing automation *The problem with all the storytelling going on across industries *Kelly’s #1 business growth strategy (this is not what you’re expecting and it’s SO important!) *And… I pry into Kelly’s secret past as an NFL cheerleader and how it actually built a good business mindset. If you feel like the sea of saturation is drowning your voice, Kelly’s simple way of serving her clients and running her business are exactly what you need to hear right now. As she puts it, ‘don’t underestimate the power of stripping everything away.’ Head to Apple Podcasts and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And make sure to check out Kelly’s podcast, ‘Unstoppable Success Radio’ (I was honored to be a guest on episode 439) and Facebook Group, ‘Tribe of UNSTOPPABLES.’  Xo Ali P.S.  Beth Comstock, Author of ‘Imagine It Forward’ and Former Vice Chair of G.E. — Glambition Radio Episode 167 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:37

Beth Comstock was one of the most powerful leaders in corporate America… and one of the few women at the top…until one day she was abruptly let go from G.E. Suddenly, everything shifted. About to publish her first book on the power of change, Beth had to walk her talk in a new way: open up to change, discover what was waiting, and give herself permission to take risks. And she’s sharing her very personal story this week on GlambitionRadio.com. While I was familiar with Beth before this new chapter in her life, I have to tell you I was even more excited to interview her NOW, in the midst of her own personal reinvention. I have a feeling her best is yet to come, beginning with her new book ‘Imagine It Forward: Courage, Creativity and the Power of Change.’ The book is so good I couldn’t put it down. It’s full of practical advice, stories and situations from Beth’s actual experience (no untried theories or academia here). You won’t believe some of Beth’s stories she shares on the show today: turning down a job offer from Steve Jobs twice (and whether she regrets it); getting called out by her own CEO for not being confident enough; and that time Jack Welch hung up on her just to make a point! On today’s #GlambitionRadio, we also discuss: *How efficiency is destroying creativity (and how our obsession with eliminating defects is blocking our imagination and creative sparks) *Why management is dead — and it should be! (Because ‘managing’ is an outdated way to think about leadership) *The mindset shift you must make to take action (courage and creativity don’t count without action) *Why you must be an entrepreneur in this day and age — whether you work for yourself or in corporate America *The importance of agitated inquiry (this is what sets the best leaders, coaches and mentors apart) *Why Beth is taking a year to wander, discover, and take time to decide what’s next (plus, what it feels like to ‘fly off autopilot’) Beth’s insights are universal: be ready to discover what’s new, open yourself up to experimentation and conflict, and pair imagination and creativity with actual action. I got so much out of my conversation with Beth, and I know you will, too. Head to Apple Podcasts and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And make sure to get a copy of Beth’s book, ‘Imagine It Forward: Courage, Creativity and the Power of Change’, wherever books are sold. (It’s also on Apple iBooks.) Xo Ali P.S.  Raegan Moya-Jones, Founder of Aden+Anais and Author of ‘What It Takes’ — Glambition Radio Episode 166 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:56

After building her $100-million baby blanket company from the ground up, Raegan Moya-Jones had forever changed the lives of parents of newborns. Even infant Prince George was seen wearing one of Raegan’s swaddles at his first royal appearance! But then last year, after taking on new VC partners, she was abruptly fired… from her own company. In this powerfully candid episode of Glambition Radio, Raegan doesn’t hold back. She opens up about the pain of having no say in the business she founded, her humble background, and her exciting new venture (it’s quite a pivot from baby blankets!). She shares how and where she found the money to build her company, how she juggled working full-time and parenting four daughters while growing the business, plus what happened when she made what she calls ‘the single biggest mistake I’ve ever made.’ Raegan tells these stories and more in her brand-new book, ‘What It Takes: How I Built a $100 Million Business Against the Odds’. The book offers open and honest insight into the thrill and heartbreak of building a wildly successful business. On #GlambitionRadio, we discuss: *How the biggest mistake of her life cost Raegan her business *The emotional trauma of being fired… from her own company. (Plus what it feels like to have your family’s money tied up in a business you don’t control) *How Raegan trusted her intuition as she built her $100 million empire — despite having no formal education, family money or connections *The problem with how most private equity investors define ‘success’ and ‘failure’ *When she finally confronted her husband about the ‘second-shift’ she was working alone to take care of their daughters (and why she enabled it for so long) *The challenges of parenting four teenage girls (and why she’s glad she built her business when they were young) *Her latest business venture, and why it’s a dramatic pivot from her last one (Hint: it’s literally moonshine!) I could talk with Raegan all day, and I know her candor, humor, and integrity will inspire you as much as it does me.  Angela Allison, CEO + Co-founder of Wine Society — Glambition Radio Episode 165 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:48

Wine in a CAN. But a slim, cool, sexy can. Delivered to your door. Stay with me here. How do you know when an industry is due for disruption? And that your idea will really take off? In this episode of GlambitionRadio.com you’ll learn how Angela Allison decided to launch her unique subscription-based wine business, Wine Society, after a career that spanned from graphic design to nursing. Since their launch in January 2018, they are shipping to just under 40 states, now retailing in major grocery stores like Kroger and Albertsons, and been spotlighted in mainstream magazines like Us Weekly. What I was most impressed with during our interview was hearing not only how Angela first saw this opportunity but more importantly how clear she and her team have gotten on their ideal customer. Angela reveals how taking a leap of faith and surrounding herself by the right people went hand-in-hand with her success in this insightful episode of #GlambitionRadio. On the show we discuss: *How Angela’s career path went from graphic design to interior design to nursing to… wine! (This should give hope to all you career wanderers.) *How she saw the opportunity to make drinking wine easier (and less formal, expensive and intimidating) but in a different way than boxed wine (and for a different market). *How well Angela knows her target customer, and why that makes their marketing, advertising, and partnerships convert so well. *Why they made “counter-worthiness” a priority when designing their cans (even though the majority of their sales are subscriptions) *Why they decided to give LESS choices than more, offering only a few simple blends instead of a multitude of wines *The surprising response she got when she asked for mentorship and guidance in the wine business Head to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later).  Jessica Rhodes, Founder + CEO of Interview Connections  — Glambition Radio Episode 164 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:18

Want to get booked on podcasts? The time is now. The podcast market is growing exponentially — today over half of the U.S. population has listened to a podcast, and the majority of podcast listeners are affluent, loyal and educated. If you want to be heard, podcasting is a must-have in your ongoing marketing plan. My client Jessica Rhodes saw the opportunity. She founded Interview Connections, the first-ever podcast booking agency, in 2013. On today’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, Jessica and I discuss not only how she capitalized on the podcasting market to build a successful agency, but also how YOU can leverage podcasting to increase your revenues and brand exposure. With her business partner Margy Feldhuhn, eight full time booking agents (they average 300 podcast bookings per month!), a manager, and a show researcher, Interview Connections is the only business in their industry offering the level of tailored service they do. And there is a reason for their success: Jessica’s dedication to her team. Since 2013 Jessica has scaled the business to just under seven figures with nearly no direct marketing or ads. Interview Connections’ clients include prominent industry thought leaders as well as some companies you may know. You will learn a lot from Jessica’s insight into the podcasting world and her instincts for building a uniquely loyal team. On the show, we discuss: *Why Jessica believes podcast marketing is similar to traditional PR strategy and how to manage your expectations of podcast marketing *The ONE thing you need to give to the podcast host and their listeners (this is key!) *How podcast interviews must be part of your ongoing marketing plan (and not just in bursts) *Her advice for how to get booked on podcasts now *Who she believes should NOT leverage podcasting *The unusual personal development training Jessica requires of all her new team members Jessica and I also discuss knowing your business numbers, why you should find a mentor who will push you to the next level, and why personal development is so important to your professional life.  Jean Chatzky, NBC Financial Editor and Author of ‘Women With Money’ — Glambition Radio Episode 163 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:51

Money. You want it, you love it, you need it, you make it, and you still have questions… What do I need to do to protect it? Why is it hard to talk about money? Why do I feel so emotional about it? And how do I find the right financial planner!? The truth is, women are in a historic moment: We are the first generation in history to have the professional and financial opportunities we do right now. However, our responsibilities have increased dramatically as well. Besides work, we’re still shouldering the majority of responsibilities for child care, caring for aging parents, running the household… you know the story (and you’ve probably experienced the decision fatigue)! Most women weren't raised to have frank, financial discussions about how to plan for these financial opportunities and challenges… nor how to manage them. That’s why you MUST hear this conversation with Jean Chatzky, the financial editor for NBC’s TODAY show and an award-winning financial journalist and author, in this powerful episode of #GlambitionRadio. On the show, we discuss: *Why women are uniquely challenged when it comes to building and managing wealth (good news: it’s NOT our fault!) *The influx of wealth that many women need to prepare for, by building financial confidence and skills *The relationship with money you need to truly feel happy - and the missing link about spending in so many money books out there *What she did right over the course of her career (even when it was scary and she had no idea what she was doing!) *Why you need to charge what you’re worth… ‘plus tax’ *Jean’s unexpected (and fantastic!) parenting advice, that I’m going to use with my twins! *How to find a great financial planner (and surprisingly, why Jean has one of her own) Jean is the voice of reason we need in a world where women are building wealth and power, and need to build the chops to manage our money in a way that serves us, protects our families, and leads to the change this world needs. Head to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). Make sure to get a copy of Jean’s latest book, ‘Women With Money’, wherever books are sold, and also tune in to Jean’s own podcast, ‘Her Money’ (which I will be appearing on soon!). Xo Ali P.S.  Chantelle Bruinsma, CEO + Founder of Studio Expansion — Glambition Radio Episode 162 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:52

Meet the Australian who’s made millions from her groundbreaking coaching programs specifically for dance studio owners… but only AFTER she CUT 60% of the content from her initial courses. What? Yes… it was the best thing she could have done. The biggest mistake many info-preneurs make is overloading their new members with too much content at once. And sadly, in the quest to ‘wow’ our clients, it simply overwhelms them, and they slip away. But in this case, she nailed it, leading to even better results for her clients.  On today’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, my 3-year Premier client Chantelle Bruinsma, CEO and Founder of Studio Expansion, has solid advice that I want everyone to hear: simplify, simplify, simplify. You’ll hear in detail the dramatic changes she made to improve her program conversions and retention, and how she changed as a leader in her business as well. But how did this all begin? Years ago, Chantelle founded a successful performing arts studio in Sydney that rapidly expanded to six venues in just four years. With a team of 35 teachers and over 1,000 students, Chantelle was not surprisingly asked to share her strategies, and that’s how Studio Expansion was born. She is on a mission to redefine the studio business by helping studio owners succeed, experience more passion, more profits, and more purpose. With Chantelle at the helm, Studio Expansion’s online community has helped studios from around the world attract more students, boost retention, and build a loyal team. And she’s helped some larger organizations as well which have contracted with her for consulting and partnerships, including Dance Informa Magazine, Kindermusik International, and Jackrabbit Studio Management Software. In addition, Chantelle has sat on multiple Performing Arts Boards and acted as an Ambassador for national organizations such as Music Count Us In, ABC’s Sing Books, Schools Spectacular and The Arts Unit. It’s pretty clear this gal is dedicated to the performing arts, period. On the show, we also discuss: *How to make launches IRRELEVANT to your business (doesn’t that just make your heart sing?) *The importance of what I call purposeful perception™ and how Chantelle used it to position herself to truly be in a league of her own and incomparable to any other ‘coach’ or training in her industry *The question Chantelle always asks herself to determine whether she can build a scalable business for the long haul *Her tips on how to build and keep an incredible team (her hiring process is key—her job descriptions alone are three pages long) *In her own words, what she’s gained from being part of my Premier Group (and why she renewed three years in a row) *How you can build a legacy by focusing on your community *The importance of NOT letting your market tell you how to run your business (YOU are the one who leads) *How her first marriage made her commit to never shrink herself in both her professional and personal life *Chantelle’s sharp response to a few trolls who viciously tried to sabotage her business **This was one of our juiciest interviews EVER with tons of practical information you can apply to your business right away.** Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download for later).  Ellen Latham, Creator of Orangetheory Fitness — Glambition Radio Episode 161 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:41

You’ve seen the ‘orange splat’ that’s pervaded nearly every corner in America… and now also the world. But did you know the Orangetheory concept was created by Florida fitness trainer Ellen Latham while she was a single mom in her 40s? I’m thrilled for you to meet the founder of this global fitness phenomenon on this week’s #GlambitionRadio! Orangetheory Fitness has grown to 1,100+ studios across the U.S. and in more than 23 countries—in just 8 YEARS. Last year the company reached $1 BILLION in systemwide sales. The Orangetheory Workout is now conducted in eight different languages, with 800,000 members worldwide. Impressive, to say the least. But what I wanted to know was, how did Ellen go from training clients out of her home to suddenly collaborating with expert partners* to franchise the concept worldwide? (*The same guys who grew Massage Envy and European Wax Center to astounding franchise growth.) On today’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, Ellen walks us through the moment she unexpectedly got fired from her spa fitness club job, and then, step by step, leveraged her skills to build a fitness business of her own. And then, *the single serendipitous moment* that determined her future as Orangetheory! What I love most about Ellen is not only her clear passion and dedication to improving people’s lives, but how seamlessly she and her partners worked—and still work— together to consistently build out Orangetheory Fitness. Pay attention: This woman DOES THE WORK. On the show, we also discuss: *What makes the Orangetheory workout so different than other fitness classes (the key is its individual heartrate-monitored training that’s designed to stimulate metabolism and increase energy) *What Ellen’s football coach father taught her about building off your strengths versus obsessing on what you don’t have, and how his advice continues to guide her strategic business decisions *What Ellen’s 3 P’s are behind the phenomenal growth of Orangetheory—people, program, and process—and what they each mean to her. *Why she and her partners decided to HALT growth of the entire company one year in order to tune things up (it had to do with making sure they were partnering with the right franchisees; this was really interesting and showed how much they cared about the long-term success of the business) *Why Ellen is still VERY involved with the business on a daily basis (even though she could have easily ‘cashed in and checked out’ by now) *What Ellen has to say about all the copycat fitness franchises popping up now around America (her answer is exactly why Orangetheory is thriving) On the show Ellen and I also discuss why you should believe in your potential (and why you need to also attach action to your potential), the importance of having the right support systems all around you, and why her photo is posted inside every school in Niagra Falls, N.Y. :) I know you’re going to get a lot out of today’s show.  Kelsey Ramsden, Author of ‘Success Hangover’ — Glambition Radio Episode 160 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:22

You’ve got the high-paying job, the praise, the house, the car, the marriage… you should feel accomplished, right? Not always. My friend Kelsey Ramsden ticked off all the boxes, and even after major achievements such as being named Canada’s top female entrepreneur (twice!), she still felt frustrated and lonely. Talking with other entrepreneurs, Kelsey realized she wasn’t the only one experiencing what she now calls a “success hangover”. So… she wrote the book on it. On today’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, Kelsey discusses her groundbreaking new book, “Success Hangover: Ignite Your Next Act. Screw Your Status Quo. Feel Alive Again.” I SO agree with this conversation: It’s time to start giving ourselves permission to have very different goals every few years — what may have satiated us at the last stage of our careers will not (and should not) as we gain new perspectives, wisdom, and skillsets. It should be expected for our goals and ambitions to evolve.    By the way, Kelsey literally moves the earth with her businesses in civil construction and real estate where she builds highways, airports, and communities. (She dialed in for our interview from Montserrat, where her company is bidding to help rebuild their infrastructure after the huge hurricane a few years ago.) Forbes has written that Kelsey, “...is a master builder of ideas, businesses and sky’s the limit futures”, so you know this conversation is going to be GREAT. On the show, we also discuss: *The life-changing adventures she leads three times a year (including a wild story about a sniper training workshop) *How men and women experience the success hangover differently (you may be surprised) *How she handled the angry emails she received from people who didn’t like her book! (these comments were amusing to me) *The importance of creating work that can stand alone (I really appreciated this distinction) *Her theory on confidence vs. competence, and mindful imperfection *How having cancer reshaped how she looks at her life, her career, and the choices she makes On the show Kelsey and I also discuss the importance of knowing the numbers in your business, why you should put high expectations on the people you surround yourself with (yes!), and the advantages of letting people see the real you and not just the Instagram you. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). And don’t forget to pick up your copy of “Success Hangover” wherever books are sold and hear Kelsey’s own podcast, “Futureproofing”, which I’ve appeared on! Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  Amy Stanton + Catherine Connors, Co-Authors of “The Feminine Revolution” — Glambition Radio Episode 159 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:42

I’m guessing you’re likely all too familiar with the often difficult balance of juggling your feminine qualities within the world of entrepreneurship. Historically, feminine qualities such as sensitivity and intuition have been perceived as weaknesses in our society. But think about the possibilities if those traits were encouraged instead. What if you brought more femininity to solving challenging situations… instead of repressing those traits? In this week’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, co-authors of “The Feminine Revolution: 21 Ways to Ignite the Power of Your Femininity for a Brighter Life and a Better World”, Amy Stanton and Catherine Connors, discuss how to think about feminine qualities in a different way. In the well-reviewed book, these gals flip previously disparaged feminine traits on their head and turn them into traits to instead embrace. The Feminine Revolution empowers women to see how sensitivity and intuition are important advantages, not traits we should subdue. Both women have unique backgrounds in helping empower female voices. Amy is the CEO and Founder of the Stanton & Company, a lifestyle and PR agency that helps promote and build positive female role models and messaging for women. Previously, Amy served as the first-ever CMO for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. As the co-founder and CCO of Maverick, as well as the Founder and author of the website Her Bad Mother, Catherine has been helping mothers navigate motherhood, womanhood and raising empowered girls since 2006. Named one of Time’s Top 25 Blogs of 2012, HerBadMother.com has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, just to name a few. On the show, we also discuss: *How Amy and Catherine not only came up with the idea for the book but how they each brought their own femininity to the collaboration process *The thought process for the name of the book, and why they think it will spark a movement *The key reason why Amy and Catherine believe society won’t be able to have a conversation about female equality without looking at what it means to be feminine *How The Feminine Revolution fits into the current media narrative of gender inequality *The importance of giving yourself space to feel emotions and question your intentions On the show, we also discuss how failures are really blessings in disguise, why we need to give ourselves space to explore our feminine qualities, and why we should keep in mind that every day is a new day. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later).  Cathy Savage, Fitness Pioneer + Business Coach — Glambition Radio Episode 158 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:55

You’re about to meet a woman who has been a longtime force of nature in the world of women’s fitness. Beginning in the ‘90s, Cathy Savage paved the way in competition coaching for women. But more importantly since then, she’s worked to shift the current industry’s oversexed focus back to where it should be: empowerment, athleticism, and health. And I’m honored this prominent powerhouse is a client of mine. Cathy has been featured on MTV, ABC News, and Fox News, and she is on the prestigious Advisory panel of and a contributor for Oxygen Magazine and Strong Magazine. In a revolutionary move, Cathy recently created her own fitness event aptly called “Be Amazing”, where participants are celebrated for their health, instead of being judged. It’s probably not a surprise to you either when I share she’s done incredibly well with all her businesses, which generate multiple 7-figures a year while helping others achieve their dreams. Cathy’s determination, passion, and “of course” attitude are sure to rub off on you while you listen to today’s #GlambitionRadio episode. On the show, we discuss: *The lightbulb moment Cathy had when she realized her love of  fitness could bring her a healthy income *Cathy’s mic-drop exercise for women who get stuck in a victim mentality and can’t escape their ‘story’ (ohhhh… this is powerful) *How Cathy became one of the top leaders in Isagenix and is now showing others how to make passive income of their own (this gal is at the top of her game) *What it was like to be featured on the early MTV reality show “I Want The Perfect Body” *Her thoughts on my ICONIC event and how it changed things for her (strategy + action is key) *The beautiful story of her deciding to adopt a daughter from Korea to complete her dream family of four *What Cathy has in store for the rest of 2019!  On the show Cathy and I also cover why you should always do the work and trust the process, why you should never settle in either your personal or professional life, and the importance of always putting family first. But there are some major moves you have to consider first to get there, and I’m sharing them with you TODAY on this special solo episode of #GlambitionRadio. My first recommendation may surprise you, and that’s not what to take on, but what to let go of. And I give you my special secret formula to identify those things quickly. You can’t move into your true ICONIC work until you decide what’s NOT up to par for you anymore. And I’m not even talking about habits, etc. I’m talking about what is ‘taking up room’ in your business model, for a start.  Then, I share with you that with all the noise and chaos in nearly every industry right now—especially for those of you who represent yourself and your offerings online—what YOUR absolute BEST move could be right now to not only stand out from the pack, but attract the ideal clients and followers you’ve been wanting.     I also share a sneak peek at my upcoming workshop, ‘ICONIC Content + IP Retreat, happening in Phoenix, March 19-21. Because I filled most of the seats at my recent ICONIC event, there are only 12 spots left. This is a very different type of retreat, with only 30 participants total, where we’re going to roll up our sleeves and break into your ICONIC messaging and models… on the spot. (For more info now and to reserve your seat, go to www.IPRetreat.com. But I walk you through all the details on the show, so it would be good to listen as well.) It’s a critical time for changemaking entrepreneurs and thought leaders to develop and disseminate their most powerful content and I.P. (intellectual property). To TRULY step into being a thought leader – and I don’t mean just posting positive platitudes online to a bevy of followers (there are plenty of those). I mean REALLY leading your audience to a new way of THINKING. But making time for any of this in your everyday business life is nearly next to impossible. It’s time you create a place and a plan to get your true messaging out there, and I share how you can be sure to make this happen in 2019. This is one you don’t want to miss.  Lynn Perkins, CEO + Co-Founder of UrbanSitter — Glambition Radio Episode 156 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:51

Entrepreneurs with kids often underestimate the importance of good childcare to support our careers and our missions (not to mention our marriages)! And you can thank Lynn Perkins, CEO and Co-Founder of UrbanSitter, for creating an app that makes finding even last minute childcare easier and more trustworthy than ever. What’s different about UrbanSitter than any other app or site is it plugs into your existing social networks to find sitters and nannies. So for example, you can link to your Facebook network, school, church, or other community organization, and you’ll instantly see the sitters that are being used regularly and recommended within. Even better, most sitters will respond to your job post within minutes, making it actually feasible you’ll find childcare last minute for that important meeting that popped up this afternoon. On today’s episode of #GlambitionRadio, I have Lynn walk me through how she came up with this genius idea and began to test and scale the venture, step by step. (She now has over a million users in 50 cities, with the company facilitating over 700,000 babysitting jobs!) Lynn (who is also a mom of twins, so we had a lot to chat about ;)) also shares how she went about raising $50 million in VC funding from top-tier investors including First Round Capital, Advance Venture Partners, and Canaan Partners. Keep in mind she was nearly always pitching to rooms of men who were not her target market, so Lynn shares on the show how she learned fast how to get their attention and take this seriously. On the show, we also discuss: *How she decided which features to start with and NOT to start with when launching UrbanSitter (those of you who are perfectionists have to hear this tip) *Why UrbanSitter pays sitters their full rate and does not take a cut (this was an interesting part of their model I did not realize) *How they started marketing UrbanSitter without paid advertising *How her entrepreneurship has helped her marriage have “food for conversation” (her husband just started his own venture as well) *The importance of carving out at least 3 hours every week for self-care when running a business *And… her most personal embarrassing babysitting story (This is a classic! I couldn’t beat it.) Lynn and I also discuss the importance of women selling the “big picture” when talking about your company, why you shouldn’t be afraid to launch your product or service in the beta stage, and why writing every morning and every evening can help clear your mind and prioritize your goals. Lots of insightful tips and advice in this episode. Head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download it for later). Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!  [**REPLAY**] Lisa Robertson, Designer & Former QVC Host — Glambition Radio Episode 128 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:23

If you ever watched the shopping channel QVC over the years, you likely caught a glimpse of this gorgeous, well-spoken woman introducing you to a new clothing staple or beauty product you couldn’t live without. Lisa Robertson was arguably the network’s most popular and best performing host of all time, generating a huge fan base and generating billions of dollars in revenue. In 2012 she launched her own Lisa Robertson Collection to create and feature her own designs as well as more of her favorite things, and she moved on from QVC in 2014. But why did she really leave, and how has the transition been for her? During this episode of Glambition Radio I was happily surprised at how open and forthright Lisa was in talking about the transition. You’ll also hear about her entire journey of her 20-year career in hosting and sales. (Did you know she first got started doing night shifts at another shopping channel, talking to herself (and the occasional inebriated caller) for hours a night? She tells the story during our interview.) She gives us a sneak peek into her life now, and her new online business, after leaving her cable career. Her stunning Pennsylvania home is now the ultimate décor showroom, and she live-streams frequently to show off her wares and give decorating tips. (I found myself entranced in the middle of a workday… watching a full 10-minute demonstration on how to make the perfect Christmas bow. And I suddenly felt I had to up my holiday decorating game. That’s her magic. I was sold.) You’ll hear how she runs her business, works with a team she loves, and uses social media to serve her fans — it’s all on this episode of Glambition Radio. On the show, we also cover: * how she found the blessing in being overworked (at one point 20 hour workdays when she was on TV) * how she keeps out the haters and negative people from her Facebook page * the biggest change in Lisa’s life since leaving QVC * how she came to the realization that she was a control freak and how it changed her leadership style * the importance of looking at the big picture and not getting hung up on the little things when owning a business * why Lisa thinks everyone should own their own business for at least a year * why thinking like an entrepreneur will often NOT serve you well when working for a corporation (love this insight!) On the show Lisa and I also discuss the importance of trusting your gut, why you need to remember why you started your own business in the first place, and what we love about Christmas decor. You’re not going to want to miss this. So head over to iTunes and listen to this episode of Glambition Radio now (or download for later). Xo Ali P.S. I would love your review!
