Kari Warberg Block, CEO of Earth-Kind, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:14

Listen here now: Question: If a mouse ran up your leg while you were helping the farmer you were dating to pull-start a truck (stay with me here…) you would: A. Scream… and run away from said truck B. Scream… and run away from said date C. Scream… and run away from truck and date while noting an idea for a multimillion dollar business Well, my friend Kari Warberg Block’s run-in with that rodent helped her launch a $40 million dollar company. So her answer was “C”. Today on Glambition Radio, how one little mouse, a bottle of perfume, and A LOT of faith helped Kari create the business, and the life, of her dreams. It’s a pretty incredible story. I’ll let HER talk you through it on the interview, as it’s quite comical. Her run-in with the rodent led her to the idea of creating a SAFE, non-poison rodent repellant. And it WORKED. That was the good news. And the bad news… As sales started to take off, the Department of Agriculture took note. And they told her she needed to get her product registered and licensed and ultra-tested… to the tune of $2 million. What happened next will inspire and delight you. Kari kept going when most people would’ve just thrown in the towel. Her perseverance, dedication, and unwavering faith paid off, and now her company manufactures the first and only EPA-certified botanical rodent repellent. It’s available in stores nationwide, including Ace Hardware and Whole Foods. But trust me, you HAVE to hear it from Kari. She is just salt of the earth and I LOVE this woman! This week’s Glambition Radio episode is loaded with inspiring advice on following your heart and NEVER giving up. Here’s a sneak preview for you from Kari, in her own words: Tip #1: Believe in yourself “I always love to let people know that they’re capable of so much more than they think. I was in special ed when I grew up. I went to a different school every year of my life. I was told I wouldn’t go to college. Look at me now. It’s fun to defy those odds.” Tip #2: Find your niche and own it “For me, this whole crazy thing with rodents would not have happened if I hadn’t worked in retail selling perfume and been dating a farmer. Everybody has some combination in their life, and it’s all there. Find your niche and own it.” Tip #3: Let go and let God “I used to think I had to control everything. But not until I really let go and said, ‘Okay God, I’m going to let go, and I’m going to let you show me the way’… it made everything so much more effortless. You start to see things appear before you that have always been there, but you didn’t see them before.” So before you say “Oh RATS… I missed this interview…” go listen to this episode of Glambition Radio by clicking the play button below. And if you want to hear my most recent episodes head over to iTunes to listen or subscribe for automatic updates.  Melissa Lanz, Founder of The Fresh 20, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:03

Listen here now: “Is this my need to succeed, or am I working toward happiness? Which is my ultimate success?” ~ Melissa Lanz That’s my favorite quote from my Glambition Radio interview with the founder of The Fresh 20, Melissa Lanz (who is also a coaching client of mine)! The Fresh 20 is a meal planning guide for busy and budget-conscious cooks. For $5 a month (10 percent goes to charities), subscribers get a weekly grocery list of 20 fresh ingredients to make five meals. Every recipe takes 30 minutes or less, and there are even gluten-free and vegetarian options. Over 100,000 subscribers have already signed on. (I love the Greek lamb tacos!) Just a few years ago, Melissa was working 70 hours a week making six-figures as a marketing executive. But she was too exhausted to cook, so her family was eating unhealthy take-out and microwave dinners. She realized that her job was not serving her, she was serving it. So she quit. Melissa knew she was happiest in the kitchen, creating healthy meals for her family. So with a list of 400, she launched The Fresh 20 (www.thefresh20.com) and has never been happier! Her bestselling book The Fresh 20 Cookbook was released last year. This week’s Glambition Radio episode is loaded with valuable tips for entrepreneurs just starting out. Here’s a sneak preview for you from Melissa, in her own words: Tip #1: Identify your strengths and delegate your weaknesses “You can’t do it all. Everybody has that strong thing that they’re really good at. I think when you allow yourself to do that… the most time possible in the week… your business will grow. You’ve just got to have faith and hire out for other things.” Tip #2: Listen to your intuition   “Follow your intuition and put one step in front of the other. I never give up on anything. I might change my course. I might figure out a way to do it differently. But if you’re committed, don’t stop. Don’t take a break.” Tip #3: Don’t be half-assed about it “You have to be serious in your heart about happiness and success to bring them to fruition. If you’re doing it halfway, or you’re only putting a toe in because you’re scared, then maybe it’s not for you. I say dive in!” You’re going to love this Glambition gal, and what I’ve shared here is just a tiny bit of her wisdom and inspiration.  Colleen DeBaise of The Story Exchange, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:15

Listen here now: Colleen DeBaise is changing the way entrepreneurial women are viewed in the media. A prominent journalist in the small business space, writing and editing for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Entrepreneur, and BusinessWeek, she’s also been interviewed on MSNBC, CNBC and NPR. And she’s author of the Wall Street Journal Complete Small Business Guidebook. But what caught my eye is her latest gig as the director of digital media at The Story Exchange, a nonprofit media organization that is devoted to sharing the stories of women business owners. And I got Colleen to tell HER story on this week’s Glambition Radio. The Story Exchange is a digital project showcasing entrepreneurial women around the world. It’s designed to help women get more exposure for their stories. She also shares how you can become involved and share your own story on this episode of Glambition Radio.  Baeth Davis, Life Purpose Guide, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:52

Listen here now: Got a spiritual crisis? No problem. Baeth Davis has been there, done that… and I’m honored she’s sharing her story with us on this week’s episode of Glambition Radio. Baeth is the creator of YourPurpose.com, which is devoted to helping people discover their life purpose, and get paid for their passion. In her late 20’s, Baeth suffered a spiritual crisis that led to thoughts of suicide. But that crisis also led to a spiritual awakening. Exactly what that awakening was… and the journey that followed… is a story you won’t soon forget. I met Baeth back in 2005, when I hosted my first-ever workshop on internet marketing. She was the first person who bought a ticket. And we were destined to be friends from there on. Not only did Baeth help me identify my life purpose, but also my blind spots to look out for, and much more… Through her very successful business ventures, she has helped tens of thousands of women around the world purge their old beliefs, face their fears, discover their life purpose, and profitably bring their gifts to the world. On this week’s Glambition Radio, I asked Baeth to share her top 3 success tips. Here’s a sneak preview for you, in her own words: Tip #1:  Be ruthlessly authentic “If you want to stay well, stop being such a ‘nice’ person. Because nice gets you nowhere. Instead be ruthlessly authentic. Honor your feelings. Nothing will keep you healthier than being in the truth, being authentic, and being in reality.” (Baeth admits she’s learned this the hard way, with a recent encounter with breast cancer and health issues that forced her to wake up to her feelings.) Tip #2:  What is your purpose? “Find out your life’s purpose. Why are you here? Get that question answered once and for all. Once you know what your purpose is, your business can be an expression of that purpose. When you’re on purpose, your business will be a reflection of that.” (On the show, I myself share my story of how Baeth helped me find my own purpose.) Tip #3:  What’s your blind spot? “Know what your blind spot is. Your life lesson is your blind spot. It’s the key to everything. Knowing what your blind spot is, allows you to step back from a situation where you are feeling challenged, and realize this is the place where I get caught up… the source of all my struggles.” (Oooo I love this one. You know that crap that comes up for you all the time? It’s likely related to your own blind spot or “life lesson”, and you can learn all about this on the show.) You’re also going to love what Baeth says about finding your fastest path to prosperity. What I’ve shared here is just a tiny bit of her wisdom.  Denise Wilson, CEO of Desert Jet, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:38

Listen here now: How do you go from being a professional oboist and music teacher to owning a jet company? Fasten your seatbelts, because Denise Wilson’s entrepreneurial dream has taken flight… and Glambition Radio is taking you along for the ride! Denise is the CEO of Desert Jet, an aircraft charter company that she founded in 2007. Desert Jet offers on-demand jet charters through its fleet of aircraft based in Palm Springs, California. Denise led Desert Jet’s growth as one of the nation’s fastest growing, privately-owned companies, ranking the last three years on the Inc. 500 list with a growth rate of over 600%! Denise and I are both in the Ernst & Young Winning Women program, and became friends at an EY event last year where we met. Back when she was falling in love with flying and building her business from scratch, Denise’s husband AND her best friend told her she was crazy… that no one wanted to see a woman flying them around in a private jet. (Only 6% of all pilots are women.) Here’s the kicker: Now her husband works for her!

Laura Ries, Branding Expert, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:30

Listen here now: What is a brand? A great logo? The look-and-feel of your website? Those things are important, but wait until you hear what branding expert Laura Ries has to say about it. She is the co-founder of the consulting firm Ries & Ries with her father, Al Ries. I first discovered her dad’s classic book, The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, about 15 years ago, and it really shifted how I looked at marketing and branding. Laura and her dad have consulted with many Fortune 500 companies across the world, including Microsoft, Ford, Disney, and Frito-Lay. They’ve written six books together, and Laura is also a frequent guest on major news programs. A brand has value. It’s what you stand for. And Laura says once you get clear on that, and really narrow the focus, you will start to attract clients and customers. This week’s Glambition Radio episode is loaded with valuable tips on branding, positioning, and marketing. Here’s a sneak preview for you from Laura, in her own words: Tip #1:   Focus is a key concept “You need to narrow your focus, because that’s what builds a brand. If you’re a small business starting out, the first thing you have to think of is not how many things you can do, but what’s the one thing you can do really well that your competitor isn’t doing.” Tip #2: Get third-party endorsements   “If you’re building a business, don’t just talk about how great you are. You need someone else to do that… getting third-party endorsements, getting it out on social media. You need people tweeting about you!” Tip #3: Be newsworthy  “When you have news value, you can get PR. When you stand for something, when you can create some news value around you and what you do, that has tremendous power.” Laura and I also had fun talking about the recent Vogue magazine cover featuring Kim Kardashian and Kanye West…. Good or bad move? You’re going to love this gal, and what I’ve shared here is just a tiny bit of her wisdom.  “Tall Poppy Syndrome” with Ali Brown… this week on Glambition™ Radio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:45

Have you ever been criticized for your dreams? For your business ideas? For trying to be your best? Of course you have! It’s just part of life. On this week’s Glambition Radio episode, I’m getting personal… sharing some of my (stressful, hurtful) experiences that kept me up at night in the early years of my business. It happens to all of us, and I’m sharing this with you because I want you to know that it’s okay to feel vulnerable. For entrepreneurs, the more we step into success, the more we step into leadership. And for women, this is where things can get a little uncomfortable, because we feel exposed.  When you are starting and growing your business—as you step into your personal power—everything does feel personal, especially when you start hearing from people who have very clear opinions on what you do and how you’re doing it. On a professional level, we as entrepreneurs have to deal with criticism. There’s constructive criticism, which helps us improve our business. And there’s downright mean criticism. Personal attacks from people who lash out simply because they want to make themselves feel better. They want to see you “knocked back down” to where you started. You’re a Tall Poppy, and they want to cut you down.   On this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, I talk about “Tall Poppy Syndrome” and how to handle comments that come from people who are NOT looking out for you. Being true to yourself and letting your own light shine is your birthright, and it’s a requirement on your path to happiness and success. If you’ve struggled with criticism (and hey, we all have) I know you’re going to love this week’s episode of Glambition Radio. Go here to listen now on iTunes. Love and success, P.S. We need your review!! We’re getting thousands of downloads a week on iTunes, but it seems few take a minute to write a review.  Sue Wong, Glamour Gown Designer, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:37

Listen here now: From growing up on a dirt floor as a young girl in Mao’s Communist China… to living the American Dream with a world-renowned fashion empire, multiple homes, and a truly divine life—ladies, meet Sue Wong, whom I am now officially dubbing The Empress of Possibility. And she’s all ours on this week’s Glambition Radio. Walk through any Neiman’s, Nordstrom, or other high-end department store, go to the evening section, and you’ll see her amazing gowns. They are sold in 27 countries around the world. She’s busy right now preparing for next month’s huge fashion show where she’ll unveil her sumptuous fall collection. (Sue told me it was inspired by the romance of the Edwardian period, and I can’t wait to see her new designs.) Growing up in China, trapped in a totalitarian regime, her family was often so hungry that (sorry this may make you nauseated) her mother and grandmother would capture and cook mice and rats to feed their little girl. Her mother risked everything getting them to the United States for a better life. Sue’s father wanted her to be an accountant, but her love for art and design was what drove her, and she was prepared to dedicate her life to it. She tells the story of being a wildly successful multi-millionaire by the time she was 25, and then losing it all in a combination of a painful divorce and some unscrupulous business partners. So she started up again, and while it took much longer to build, she came back better than ever. Her tale is a powerful one and you need to hear it here for yourself. On this week’s Glambition Radio, I asked Sue to share her top 3 success tips. Here’s a sneak preview for you, in her own words: Tip #1:  Learn to be fearless Because Sue’s family risked their lives to get to this country, it makes sense that Sue doesn’t let fear get in her way. She says, “Fear is not an option. You have to be fearless. Be prepared to work hard.” Tip #2:  Be prepared to sacrifice and follow through “As in any art, one must be prepared to sacrifice. It is 100% commitment, dedication… and requires singular ambition, focus and the discipline to follow through. If you have an idea but you don’t follow through, that’s nothing to me.” Tip #3:  Practice the three P’s   “Philosopher and mystic George Gurdjieff taught the three P’s: patience, persistence, and perseverance. That’s what it’s really going to take. You have to be excellent and remain true and dedicated to your vision.” You’re going to also love what she says about tapping into divine inspiration—what I’ve shared here is just a tiny bit of her wisdom.  Go listen to this episode of Glambition Radio by clicking the play button below. And if you want to hear my most recent episodes head over to iTunes to listen or subscribe for automatic updates.  Deborah Brenner, Founder of Women of the Vine, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:57

Listen here now: Even if you don’t know a Chardonnay from a Cabernet, you’re going to love this delicious episode of Glambition Radio with Deborah Brenner, founder and CEO of Women of the Vine. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, Deborah created the first of its kind wine company that unites award-winning women winemakers under one brand. And she left a cushy six-figure corporate job to do it. On the show she shares how a painful divorce was actually the catalyst for her to say “screw this—what do I really want to do?” And a trip to Napa, California was her next soul-searching step. You’ll have to listen to the show to hear the whole story—it’s incredibly romantic and inspiring. She spent months meeting with women of the wine world, whom no one was really championing, and decided to publish a book called Women of the Vine. A year later, her company was born. Then the BIG deal came… just last year, Deborah partnered with MORE magazine to launch the first-of-its-kind wine club featuring all-women vintners called “MORE Uncorked”. In fact, the day after our interview, Deborah was jetting off to Napa for her second annual Women of the Vine Grand Tasting in Napa, sponsored by MORE. On this week’s Glambition Radio, I asked Deborah to share her top 3 success tips. Here’s a sneak preview for you, in her own words: Tip #1:  Learn to be resilient “I learned this from women winemakers. They’re working for Mother Nature. So when I complain about my computer having glitches, I can fix that. They can’t fix the rain, the snow, the freezing weather we’re having. They have to deal with it, and I’m just in awe of how they do that. The resiliency is just something that I get reminded of all the time.” Tip #2: Have hope “The winemakers taught me to have hope and always believe that it will get better. They see harvest after harvest, and they are nurturing the land to give back. It’s about reinvention. That’s a life lesson I never expected.” (Listening to Deborah’s personal story, you can see how this has impacted her success too.) Tip #3: Trust in yourself “You’re going to have a lot of naysayers around you, mostly because of their own fear. Trust in yourself because, at the end of the day, even if you fail over and over, all these failures turn into learning experiences. And then one day you’re going to think… Oh my gosh, I made it!” Deborah also gave some great tips on how to choose wine (Hint: you don’t have to pay a fortune for an excellent bottle of wine!) You’re going to love this gal, and what I’ve shared here is just a tiny bit of her wisdom. Pour yourself a glass of wine now (ok maybe later?) and go listen to this episode of Glambition Radio by clicking the play button below. And if you want to hear my most recent episodes head over to iTunes to listen or subscribe for automatic updates.  Kim Kiyosaki, Wealth-building Expert, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:31

Listen here now: Her brand is Rich Woman, so how could I not have the incredible Kim Kiyosaki on Glambition Radio? Kim says she knew early on in life that she wanted to be her own boss. Sitting in a cube working 9-to-5 was not her thing, and despite everyone’s advice to stay in that secure job (health insurance! free coffee and pens!), she took a risk, left corporate America, followed her entrepreneurial bliss, and became a very rich woman indeed… in more ways than one. You’re likely familiar with her husband and business partner Robert Kiyosaki, who authored the groundbreaking Rich Dad, Poor Dad in 1997. (On the show I share how that book changed my life when in my 20s I picked it up in an airport bookstore.) But Kim is a feminine financial force in her own right. She’s written two bestsellers, Rich Woman and It’s Rising Time, and her passion for educating women around money and business is absolutely contagious. Listen to her no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is interview now on this week’s Glambition Radio by clicking the play button at the top of this page. Kim and Robert have been together 30 years now (she shares how they met on the show! Inquiring minds wanted to know ;)), and have built an empire based on educating people worldwide on financial freedom. It all started with creating a board game called “Cash Flow” to teach people how to become smart business owners and investors. Today’s they offer programs and training around the globe. When doing my research on Kim, I found articles reporting the couple’s estimated net worth—generated from real estate, investments, and their training companies—ranging from $80 million to over $500 million. (That’s the Internet for you. Whichever the case, holy cow… this lady walks her talk, because she and Robert both started with nearly nothing when they met years ago. And this means you should listen to her advice! ) But she’s a rare breed, and that’s why she wants to help more women than ever live rich lives themselves. Kim shared with me this staggering statistic: While women-owned businesses are the biggest growing sector in the world of entrepreneurship in the U.S., 68% of women-owned businesses make LESS than $25,000 a year!

Liz Lange, Fashion Designer, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:30

Listen here now: How do you go from NO business knowledge, no marketing experience, and an admitted knack for having proactive “poor judgment” to creating what became the #1 line in a fashion category within a few short years? It was all part of Liz Lange’s plan. Well, her “non plan”. The “I never had a business plan” plan. And her story is LIVE on this week’s Glambition Radio. And I have to tell you I LOVED hearing her talk about her lack of having everything thought out ahead of time… because this is what separates the Glambition Girls from the rest. If you wait to have all your ducks lined up in a row, someone will beat you to it. Just get out there and get ‘er going. It’s easier to course-correct once you’re in motion. If the name Liz Lange sounds familiar, it’s because her Liz Lange Maternity line is in EVERY TARGET in the U.S., and in many other countries around the world. And what you have to realize about Liz is that when she started back in 1997, NO ONE who was pregnant dressed to show their “bump”. Today, you can’t pick up a lifestyle or beauty magazine without seeing pregnant celebrities showing their maternity style. And Liz was the woman who pioneered this phenomenon. In essence, I can thank HER for the permission to “dress my bump” during my pregnancy with my twins, versus resorting to wear a muumuu. (And you, too.) Liz told me her “light bulb” moment came when she was listening to her pregnant friends complain about the lack of stylish clothes for mothers-to-be. The only option in the mid-90’s was oversized, loose-fitting garments. Liz knew intuitively that something that hugged, rather than tented, the expanding midriff would sell. During our interview, she told me that, aside from her pregnant friends, NO ONE thought it was a good idea. Every store she pitched her idea to said no way, fashionable maternity wear will never sell. Then, her business exploded! I mean really you have to hear it for yourself on our interview. By 2007, 10 years after launching Liz Lange Maternity and dressing every major pregnant celebrity, Liz had partnered with Target and Nike and annual sales had reached a reported $200 million. She sold her business for a rumored $50 million (not a bad day), and she remains the creative director and face of the brand, which continues to thrive at Target. Now, Liz designs a women’s wear line for HSN as well as works on some passion projects while raising her two kids in New York City. On this week’s Glambition Radio, I asked Liz to share her top 3 success tips. Here’s a sneak preview for you, in her own words: Tip #1: Great ideas usually go against the grain “You’ll never be successful just following conventional wisdom. You have to go against what might seem normal or typical. People didn’t think it was a good idea that I do that partnership with Target when I had high-end stores, but I did it anyway.” Tip #2: Receive criticism, but in context “Consider all criticism to be constructive. Do not be discouraged. I almost feel like the less people like your idea, the more they think it won’t work, the greater possibility is that you’re probably onto something good.” Tip #3: There’s strength and wisdom in failure “I think that’s very normal—especially for entrepreneurs—to get paralyzed by fear of failing. What separates successful entrepreneurs from people that just never make that leap, is the idea that you dust yourself off and you try again, and you’re stronger because of it.” You’re going to love this gal, and while I’ve shared a bit of her wisdom here, there’s so much more on this episode of Glambition Radio – just listen by clicking the play button below. And if you want to hear my most recent episodes head over to iTunes to

Raegan Moya-Jones, Founder and CEO of Aden+Anais, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:14

Listen here now: What do Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, Kim Kardashian, and Beyonce’s babies have in common? They’ve all been spotted in Aden+Anais swaddles. (And my own babies have been snapped in these too. See photo at end of this post. ;)) And this week on Glambition Radio, I interview Aden+Anais’ founder and CEO Raegan Moya-Jones, whom you’re going to LOVE. Not only her Aussie spirit, but her gumption to take an idea and run like hell with it… all while raising four (count ‘em… four) daughters in New York City.  Now, if you don’t have a baby, you may not know what a swaddle is. I surely didn’t until I was planning for the birth of my twins last year. We received a gift set of Aden+Anais swaddles a few weeks after the babies arrived, and we loved them so much that we promptly went out and purchased more. Little did I know I would happen to meet Raegan a year later! And we instantly bonded because my honey Brett is also from Australia. Raegan’s success started with coming to the U.S. over 10 years ago and discovering we didn’t have the style of muslin swaddles they had back in Oz. Muslin swaddles are very common in Raegan’s native Australia—they’re an Aussie motherhood tradition. So when she couldn’t find them here, she decided to create her own line. And that’s how Aden+Anais was born. Since then she’s taken that one idea and built it into a full line of baby products that now spans 63 countries and has reported revenues of over $30 million. And this year her swaddles made the biggest debut ever… on little Prince George when Kate and Will brought him out from the hospital for his big debut! You’ll love this story in her own words—because Reagan had NO idea that was going to happen. Turns out that Kate purchased Aden+Anais swaddles for little George herself and chose one for the big occasion. What a boon to an already booming business. On this week’s Glambition Radio, I asked Raegan to share her top 3 success tips. Here’s a sneak preview, in her own words: Tip #1: Do something you love “Always do something that you love. You need to believe in what you’re doing wholeheartedly, and you need to believe in it because… the toll that it takes on you if you don’t believe in it… you’re not going to make it.” Tip #2: Don’t do it for the money “Never ever, ever make a decision for money. If you’re doing what you’re doing to get rich, that’s disastrous. You’ve got to do it because you believe in what you’re doing and it’s a passion. It can’t be ever for the money.” Tip #3: Always be authentic “Don’t get blindsided and go off track. I think why Aden+Anais is so successful is because, at the core of it, I’m still actively involved in everything. If it doesn’t feel right to me and doesn’t make sense to me as a mother and for the brand, we just don’t do it. I think authenticity is a really important thing to success.” On the show, Raegan also talks about the DOWNSIDE of business partnerships, because she had one go bad. I liked her advice on what to think about before you go into business with a friend or family member. (And, what to consider INSTEAD of forming a partnership.)  “Safe is the New Risk”—Glambition Radio Episode #10 with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:41

Listen here now: If you’ve listened to just a few of the interviews with amazing women we’ve had so far on Glambition Radio, I hope you’ve detected they have one powerful trait in common. These gals took RISKS to get where they are. They didn’t overthink things, or think “who am I to be doing this?” or fret and flop around worrying about how they would fit this in their life, how they’d do this along with motherhood, etc. They got excited about their idea, did the research they needed, got the help they needed, and went for it. And on this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, I’m personally diving deep into this topic, which is one of my favorites. Some of them, like Kara Goldin of Hint Water and Alli Webb of the Drybar, initially put their life savings into their idea. Others like Alexa von Tobel of LearnVest and Jessica Herrin of Stella & Dot went out and had the gumption to ask others to not only believe in their idea but give them the money to fund its growth. Either way, there was risk involved. Yes, that R word… You know the biggest difference between entrepreneurs and regular folks is really how we view RISK. Risk is all relative. It’s really all about our perception. If you think it’s risky to be an entrepreneur these days, consider how risky it is to stake your financial future on being a corporate employee. I’m sure we all know someone who’s been laid off or had a big pay cut. There is no job security. The idea of that is just complete B.S. But there are a lot of people who still seem to think a job is the “safe” way to go. A quick story that will give you a laugh… a few years ago, I was living in LA and doing the dating thing. I was mostly attracted to entrepreneurs or the free spirited types, but I’d occasionally give the corporate guys a shot. I remember when I briefly dated a guy who was a top executive at a Fortune 500 company… it’s a brand you would know. And when I told my mom about this guy, she was very excited… NOT that I had potentially found a good mate, but that he had “a real job”! Here I was, already having built a multimillion-dollar company, and she felt I would be “safer” with Mr. Executive. I don’t know if it’s just that generation, or just some people. That, to them, is security. I use that as an example because the people around you are probably thinking the same way. This is just how most of us grew up, viewing that company paycheck as safe and secure. But look at all the people who bet all their financial future solely on real estate, or their investments in stocks and funds. There are some folks hurting badly right now, who lost most everything in the last few years, and I feel for them. The best investment you can make right now is in you and your growth, both personally and as an entrepreneur. Risk brings rewards, but it’s about taking smart risks. On this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, I share with you the difference in those, and give you a few key steps to take… and perceptions you have to shift… in order to EXPAND your comfort zone and make those LEAPS that can lead to the life you REALLY want.  Jessica Herrin, Founder & CEO of Stella & Dot, this week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:26

Listen here now: Remember back when the Avon lady knocked on your door, or your neighbor invited you to a Tupperware party? Well, Jessica Herrin has taken that old-school direct sales model, updated it for today’s woman, wooed over 30,000 gals from all over the world to work it, and has grown it into a $450 million+ company. (Yes, you read that right. In fact, some sources estimate it will hit a BILLION dollars in a few short years.) As the founder and CEO of Stella & Dot, a “social selling” jewelry and accessories company, Jessica reinvented and redefined the merchandising industry in a way that helps women entrepreneurs balance life and work. This girl has got Glambition all the way! Go hear our full interview on the latest episode of Glambition Radio by clicking the play button at the top of the page! I had the pleasure of meeting Jessica in 2011 as part of the EY Winning Women Entrepreneur program, which we are both members of. I was blown away by her drive, her spirit, and also being able to rock this business to hundreds of millions while still being a great mom to two daughters, which I heard a lot about during our talks. When Jessica first started selling jewelry out of her living room over a decade ago, everyone thought she was crazy! But then they remembered… this was Jessica. She was smart, driven, and passionate about this idea. And, she’d already proven herself once. At age 24, this gal co-founded the site that eventually became WeddingChannel.com. (I used that to plan my first wedding. Nice guy, but the wrong guy. It wasn’t Jessica’s fault.

JJ Virgin, Nutrition and Fitness Expert, and Bestselling Author of The Virgin Diet, this Week on Glambition Radio with Ali Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:07

Listen here now: OK this one made me cry. I know I’m a crier, but really. JJ Virgin saved her son’s life last year, and you MUST hear this interview on what she went through. I always saw JJ as so strong and tough, and after this interview now I realize why she became so strong… for this reason. It saved her, and it saved her family. We can all learn a lot from this. “We are never better than when we are challenged.” –JJ Virgin I absolutely love JJ. After becoming her first business coach in 2009 and 2010, we’ve become dear friends, and I even adopted her fat cat Milo. (You’ll have to listen to the interview for more on that!) And then I became a client of hers as well. Fast forward just three years, and now she’s everywhere! This nutrition and fitness expert is now a NY Times bestselling author of The Virgin Diet and appears regularly on network TV. I follow JJ’s nutritional advice… her program really works and I highly recommend you get a copy of her book. And her new book, The Virgin Diet Cookbook, comes out on February 18. During our interview, JJ talked about her remarkable fight to save her son’s life after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and doctors told JJ he would not survive. But she fought long and hard for him. She did not give up! This is how this gal lives her life! She won’t take no for an answer. She knows she will find the answer. And she did. (You’ll hear about it in our interview.) I asked JJ to share with our listeners her top 3 success tips. Here they are, in her own words: Tip #1: Find a coach JJ says, “Look where you want to be, and don’t hold back either. There is someone there already. Go get them as your coach. That’s what I did with you Ali. I was like, ‘I will have what she’s having!’ It totally works, and then you make the decision and stay in forward motion.” Tip #2 Don’t give up… ever JJ says, “You cannot course-correct standing still. So you have got to just keep putting it out there, and it is going to show up for you. And it is always right under your nose. You won’t see it… people around you will ask you about it. Whatever it is they are asking you about, that is the thing.” Tip #3 Build an awesome team JJ says, “Build a team from the very beginning. You bring a team in, and start with the things that you hate the most and you suck at. Hire those people. Hire them fast, because it is a total waste of your time to do it on your own.” Great advice from a great lady. A true Glambition Girl. BTW, her recipe for her favorite breakfast smoothie sounds delish.
