This week, Jim, Spaz and I sit down with Robert Hesketh, Owner of Hesketh Studios, to talk about his upcoming mix of RTS, FPS and space combat, Executive Assault 2. We talk a lot about the game, how much work goes into making a game like this, and quite a bit more. It ended up being a really fun conversation in the end! Next week on the show, we’ll welcome back the fabulous Derek Smart to talk about recent big changes to Universal Combat, and likely a lot more. ;) As always, please feel free to leave us a comment or suggestion by dropping them below, or you can email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums.  SGJ Podcast #261 – Starflight 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:54:28

Welcome to this week’s podcast my friends! This week, Jim, Spaz and I sit down with the Founder and Head of HumaNature Studios, Greg Johnson, and Project Lead for Starflight 3, Anthony Vaughn, to talk Starflight (and other things I guess)!!!! Greg Johnson was the lead on both original Starflight games, so for someone like me who has the Starflight games in his top three games OF ALL FREAKING TIME, this was a super duper extra wonderful treat. It was really tough not to fanboy out the entire time, but I feel like we got some good questions in, and we were interestingly asked some questions in return, which was rare but also really fun! Overall, it was an AMAZING discussion and, while I love all my podcast guests, this one was a special treat for me. ;) Next week on the show, we’ll get up early to talk to the developer and creator of Executive Assault 2, which now has space stuff, unlike its predecessor. ;) As always, if you have any questions, comments or requests, please feel free to drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy the show.  SGJ Podcast #260 – Between the Stars | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:18

Welcome to this week’s podcast, my friends! Apologies that this is a little late, but this week was CRAAAAZY. This week, Jim, Spaz and I sit down with Alexander Poysky, Executive Producer at Isolated Games, to talk about their upcoming space combat adventure roguelike game which is currently in Kickstarter called Between the Stars (and you can get the demo on Steam or directly). As it was an early morning — 6 AM our time — show, I was admittedly a bit loopy at the beginning of the show, but it seemed to end up just fine in the end. :) It was fun to talk to Alexander not just about the game, but indie development, getting noticed on Steam, and his other game currently on Kickstarter, Meeple Station. Overall, it was a really fun show, and I wish I’d had more time to talk before having to run to work, but I’m sure we can bring Alexander back once the game hits 1.0. :) Next week on the show…we’re not quite sure yet. I think we’re THIS CLOSE to confirming a guest, but if not, we’ll come up with a fun topic. It’ll be a good time regardless! ;) As always, if you have questions or comments, please feel free to drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Show Notes Games Mentioned * Starpoint Gemini Warlords * Syndicate * Titanfall 2 * Theme Hospital * Two Point Hospital * Mass Effect * X Series * Rimworld * Star Citizen * Privateer * Totally Accurate Battlegrounds

 SGJ Podcast #259 – Star Traders: Frontiers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:48:12

Welcome to this week’s show, folks! This week, Jim, Spaz and I sit down with Andrew and Corey Trese of Trese Brothers Games to talk about their latest, and probably largest, game to date: Star Traders: Frontiers! We talk a LOT about their amazing early access period, the game’s mechanics, the lore than propagates over half-a-dozen games and much more. It’s a really fun discussion only hampered by the severe technical issues we experienced that evening. Regardless of those issues, it was a really fun episode, and we hope you enjoy it. Next week on the show, we have an early morning (6 AM for us) show to talk to the folks behind Between the Stars, an upcoming space exploration, adventure and combat roguelike thing that is damned fun even in its super early stage. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please hit us up below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Show Notes Games Mentioned * Rollmaster * Star Traders * Final Fantasy Online * Battletech * Elite Dangerous * Defect * Templar Battleforce * Din’s Curse * Drox Operative * Depth’s of Peril * Starpoint Gemini Warlords * Freelancer * Gratuitous Space Battles 2 * Production Line * Factorio * Infinicatory * Satisfactory * Orbital Racer * Geneshift

SGJ Podcast #258 – Landinar: Into the Void | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:18

[welcome text here] This week, Jim, Spaz and I get up super early in the morning to sit down with Sander de Visser (Co-owner/Designer/Jack of all trades) and Ryanne Keulen (Community manager) from Convoy Games to talk about their upcoming space adventure game, Landinar: Into the Void. It’s a really fun discussion on not just the game itself, but Steam and visibility, catering to your audience, early access and a lot more. It was a really lively and great discussion, and I hope y’all enjoy it as much as we did. :) Next week on the show, we’re back at our usual time to welcome back the fabulous Trese brothers, in order to talk about their recently-out-of-early-access epic, Star Traders: Frontiers! As always, if you have a question or comment, hit us up below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the show. Show Notes Games Mentioned * Convoy * Star Wars Galaxies * Earth & Beyond * Dark Souls * Galaxy Trucker * Diablo * Starcraft * God Factory Wingmen

SGJ Podcast #257 – Random Podcast is Random | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:06

Welcome to this week’s podcast, my friends! This week, Jim, Spaz and I — sadly Hunter stepped down from the show — talk about a billion different things. The issue was Hunter originally came up with the topic we were to use for this week, but when he left, and I didn’t fully understand his topic, we scrambled for a new one. I thought asset flips might be interesting to talk about, but appaaaaaaaaaarently not, as we talking about pretty much everything but. Next week on the show, we’re gonna talk about chasing that dragon. If you have a comment, question or suggestion for a topic, please drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks for listening, and we hope you enjoy…whatever this is… Show Notes Games Mentioned * Yakuza 0 * Monster Hunter World * Toukiden 2 * Genesis Alpha One * Kings and Heroes * Warframe * Warhammer 40,000: Vermintide * Deep Rock Galactic * Space Beast Terror Fright * Star Wars: Battlefront II * Battletech * Phantom Doctrine * Alpha Protocol

SGJ Podcast #256 – Scott Brown: The Man Behind Jumpgate | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:40:52

Welcome to this week’s episode of the Podcast, my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I sit down with Scott Brown, formerly of Netdevil and Cloud Imperium, now at Wyrmbite, to talk primarily about one of my favorite games, good ol’ Jumpgate. We get a LOT of great design talk, a ton of behind-the-scenes stuff and a lot of great dev discussions as well. It was a really fun show that covered a varied range of topics, including the game he’s currently working on, Nightmarchers! Next week on the show…we’re actually not sure yet. We’ll come up with something fun though! As always, if you have a question or comment, please drop it below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. PS. I’ve decided not to upload the audio from the podcast covering No Man’s Sky from a couple of weeks ago because, let’s be honest, it wasn’t much of a podcast and more of us just goofing around, so an audio file would just be confusing and weird. I hope that’s okay. Show Notes Games Mentioned * Jumpgate * Jumpgate Evolution * Auto Assault * Nightmarchers * Warbirds * Vendetta Online * Star Citizen * Wing Commander * Autoduel * WWII Online * Elite: Dangerous * Elite * Wing Commander: Privateer * EVE Online * Everquest * Wasteland * Fallout * Star Wars: The Old Republic * Asheron’s Call * World of Warcraft

 SGJ Podcast #254 – Woovit (and a General PR Discussion) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:59:07

Welcome to this week’s podcast, my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I sit down with Richard Kain of Woovit, which is a digital distribution platform aimed solely at creators. As gaming coverage changes, and can be done by almost anyone, the ways to get games into the hands of the right creators must change along with it. Woovit strives to do this by automating the process in very clever ways. We not only talk about Woovit, but we also talk about PR in general, a wide variety of games, Kickstarter and much more! Richard was also nice enough to give us three keys for Stellaris, so be sure to check out the contest page for all the details! Next week on the show, we’ll talk about whether the ease in which we consume games — and media in general — leads to lower-quality media as a whole. As always, you can drop your comments below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks for listening/watching, and we hope you enjoy the show. Show Notes Games Mentioned * EVE Online * Star Trek Online * Star Wars: The Old Republic * Guns of Icarus Alliance * Starcraft II * Warframe * Subnautica * Game of War: Fire Age * Star Fleet Armada * Star Traders: Frontiers * Megawars * Infinity Battlescape * Orbital Racer

SGJ Podcast #253 – DLC (Damn Lacking Content) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:43:40

Welcome, my friends, to another Podcast episode! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I sit down to revisit the topic of DLC, but from a different tack as from our last show on the subject. We start by looking at whether games can be approachable with a lot of DLC, as recommended by community member FermionAce, and then go from there. We have a lot of tangents, sure, but we do stick to our subject a majority of the time. ;) We also talk about the best games of the Steam sale, of which there were a good deal many. ;) We’re off next week, my friends, but we’ll be back on the seventeenth to talk to the CEO of the influencer-focused digital distribution service, Woovit. It’ll be interesting to talk to someone on the PR side of the fence. :) As always, if you want to leave a comment or suggestion, you can drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums.  Site Note – Upper Memory Block Wing Commander Podcast! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55

Hey friends, just a quick note to let y’all know I was on the Upper Memory Block Podcast a couple of weeks ago to talk Wing Commander with friend-of-our-podcast, Joe Mastroianni. While we were gonna initially talk Wing Commander II, we spoke for nearly two hours on the series as a whole. Head over to UMBcast.com to listen to the whole thing. Hope y’all enjoy it! Episode 110 – Wing Commander Round Up

 SGJ Podcast #252 – Starfighter: Infinity | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:22:09

Welcome to this week’s episode of the Podcast, my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I get up really in the morning, our time, sit down with Ben Olding, creator and developer of the current-in-alpha MMORPG, Starfighter: Infinity. I’ve been playing the alpha for a couple of months now, so I was super silly excited to talk to Ben about his excellent game. I was so excited I interrupt both Ben and Spaz a LOT, but hopefully, it’s more on the charming part of the scale, rather than the annoying part. ;) We talked about a lot too, such as listening to your community, early access, the transition from a browser-based game to a full-blown, serious game and much more. It was a really fun show, so we hope you enjoy it. Sadly we are off next week due to a prior engagement, so I hope you won’t miss us, but we’ll be back on 7/3/18 with some talk of DLC! As always, if you have a question or comment, hit us up below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thank you so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy the show! Show Notes Games Mentioned * EVE Online * Jumpgate * Star Citizen * Drox Operative * 3030 Deathwar

 SGJ Podcast #251 – Remnant | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:05

Hey friends, welcome to this week’s podcast! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I sit down with Scott McCallum, the lead developer on the fascinating and currently-Kickstarting 4X, Remnant. I say fascinating because this game eschews so many of the tropes we’ve come to expect from a 4X, and strives to me something truly unique, such as taking place in one solar system, being primarily character driven and much more. We talk about the game, it’s influences (OMG Star Wars: Rebellion y’all!), its features and much more. I can tell y’all, I’m even more excited about this game now than I was at the beginning of the show, because it sounds like it’s going to be AWESOME. Next week on the podcast, we’re doing a morning show because our guest — the developer of the fantastic Starfighter: Infinity — is in the UK, so I am SUPER excited about that, because I loooove this game. ;) If you have any questions or comments, as always, you can drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy the show! Show Notes Games Mentioned * Master of Orion * Stellaris * Sins of a Solar Empire * Distant Worlds * Kohan * Total War * Conquest: Frontier Wars * Star Wars: Rebellion * Crusader Kings * Children of a Dead Earth * Starcraft * Civilization

 SGJ Podcast #250 – The Double-Edged Sword of Early Access | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:47:15

Welcome to this week’s podcast, my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I talk about the good and bad that is the current early access model. While early access via closed alphas and betas has been a thing for quite some time, the early access model pioneered by Steam has proven to be both a help and a hindrance to gamers and developers alike. We talk about games we feel weathered the storm well, games that sunk for whatever reason, and what needs to change to make the current system better because right now, it has a lot of issues. Next week on the show, we’re gonna talk about dreaded DLC, lootcrates and more! As always, if you have a question or suggestion, you can drop it below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums.
