 SGJ Podcast #219 – Solar Settlers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:26

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I sit down with Brett Lowey, creator and owner of BrainGoodGames, to talk about his spacey card board colonization game, Solar Settlers! Knowing next to nothing about board and card games my own self, I was super happy to have Spaz, Jim and Hunter on hand because they knew soooo much more than I did. We talked a lot about the game, as well as Brett’s other games, their evolution as board games, his background as a board gamer and much more. It was a fun and lively conversation! :) Next week on the show, we’re doing an early show (6 AM my time) to talk to the developer of the space exploration and crew management game, Galactic Crew!  SGJ Podcast #217 – Hellion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:13:46

Welcome to episode 217 of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I have an early morning (for us) show so we can talk to our guest Milos Zivkovic, Game Designer and Story Writer at Zero Gravity Games, who was calling us from Belgrade, Serbia to talk about spacey survivalley game Hellion!! In this episode, we talk not only about the game quite a bit, but science fiction in general (we’re all BIG Expanse fans y’all), the ins and outs (but mostly ins) of early access and more. While I am TERRIBLE at the game — as the video will attest — I have to respect what it’s trying to do. Full orbital mechanics with weapons, orbiting station modules and more! It’s an ambitious game, but it’s also a labor or love, which is completely clear after talking to Milos. Up next week on the show, we’re having another early morning show to talk to the folks behind the upcoming 4X, Interstellar Space: Genesis! As always, if you have a question or comment, drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Show Notes Games Mentioned   FTL Rust DayZ Just Cause Space Engineers PULSAR: Lost Colony

 SGJ Podcast #216 – Mark Baldwin | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:14:52

Welcome to this episode of the Podcast my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I sit down with Mark Baldwin, who worked on the Star Fleet, Empire and Perfect General series’, to talk about his time in the gaming industry, his favorite games he worked on, how the industry has changed and much more. I have to apologize though, as we had a couple of technical difficulties this time around. First, Mark’s headset died right before the show started, so he has to use his laptop mic, which cut out every so often. Secondly, the pedal I use for push-to-talk began malfunctioning, so I had to have an open mic the whole time. Ugh. Overall though, it was a fun show, and I hope these issues don’t hamper your enjoyment of it. Next week on the show, it’s a morning (for us) show as we talk to the developers behind the spacey survival game, Hellion! As always, if you have a question or comment about this episode, you can drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks for watching/listening, and we hope you enjoy the show! We’re back from hiatus, and this week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I talk the games we’ve been playing, some news, and discuss what a surprise and delight 2017 has been so far in terms if space games. Over two dozen space games have been fully released (i.e. hit 1.0, not early access) this year, and we’re on track to beat 2016 in terms of releases. It’s been such a great year so far. We’ve also been playing a lot of other awesome games (as you can see below, we talked about a LOT, and I likely missed some). Next week on the show, we’ll be having the other half of the team that brought us the original Star Fleet games, Mark Baldwin. We’ll not only talk about those, but his work on the Empire games as well! Yay! Original: Life has a way of surprising you sometimes, and every now and again, these surprises can be so awesome they can take you to places you never expected. Such is the case when Jim and I sat down to talk to Thomas Robertson, developer of the popular Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator.  Rerun – SGJ Podcast #85 – (Some of) The Brilliant Minds Behind Freespace 2!!!OMG!!! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:25

Edit: Hey folks, this is a rerun show to have something in the feed while we’re off for two weeks. I hope you enjoy it! Original: Welcome to this special impromptu edition of the Space Game Junkie Podcast!! In this special episode, Jim and I sit down with some folks who worked directly on the best game of all time (yeah, I said it), Freespace 2! Joining us are Adam Pletcher  (Lead Game Designer on Freespace 2, currently Studio Architect for Technical Art at Volition), Mike Kulas (Executive Producer on Freespace 2, Founder of Volition, Co-founder of Parallax Software), Dave Baranec (Lead Programmer on Freespace 2, currently Studio Architect for Core Systems at Volition) and Jason Scott (Designer and Writer on Freespace 2, currently Studio Design Director at Volition). To say I was nervous and trying NOT to fanboy all over these rock stars of the genre is something of an understatement. ;) That said, it was a damned fun show, and really informative as well. Y’all need to definitely tune in if you have any passing interest at all in either Freespace 2 or space gaming in general. If you weren’t able to join in the fun on Twitch, don’t fret. Apparently more folks from the original team wanna come on and do follow up episodes! OMGOMG I’m still on something of a bit of a high after all this, I kid you not, and knowing that it could happen AGAIN? Well…it’s just a bit overwhelming. That said, I truly hope you enjoy the show, and thank you for listening.

 SGJ Podcast #214 – Space Impossible | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:31

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast, my friends! We have a fun discussion about Unity (and why it gets a bad reputation), early access, community feedback, implementing multiplayer and much more. It’s a really, really fun discussion, and we hope you enjoy it. The next two weeks will be reruns, since the site is going on something of a hiatus for a couple of weeks. I’ve chosen what I feel are my favorite episodes (though I do love them all, these are special to me), so I hope you enjoy them, and we’ll see you in a few weeks when we return with a new podcast on 8/22! Welcome to this week’s podcast, my friends! This week, Jim, Hunter, Spaz and I talk news, the games we’re playing and stories in sci-fi games. Since our guest had to cancel, we kinda threw this together, but it was a fun talk all around. Sadly we had some technical issues with Discord, and only too late did we remember we could switch servers to try and fix our issues. We did that, but there’s still a span in there where we kept cutting out for each other, so sorry about that. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the show despite this. ;) Next week on the show, we’ll be welcoming the folks behind the recently-released spacey “5X”, Space Tyrant! We start by talking about his game development experience back in the Commodore 64 days (which ages us all, really), moving up to GameMaker, keeping track of the updates to a game a deep as this, dealing with the Steam community and much more. It was an EXCELLENT conversation, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. :) Next week is still a bit up in the air, as the guest I offered the date to has yet to confirm. It’ll either be them or a topic, as soon as I’m sure I’ll add it to the calendar.  As always, if you have questions or comments, drop them below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. We’ve only played the non-VR version, but we had a lot of fun with it, so we talk about the game, visibility on Steam, their other games and much more. It’s a fun show, and a bit on the short side due to me being just so bloody tired. Still, we hope you enjoy it! :) There will not be a show next week because it’ll be the July 4th holiday here in the States, so we’re taking the week off!
