Released back in 1987 (the heyday for pre Vietnam nostalgia) and starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, it acts as an homage to a bygone era while simultaneously dating itself by trying to modernize it for an 80's audience. Film History On Videotape Podcast / Beach Movies / Review #199 / Point Break The year was 1991.  Keanu Reeves wasn't Neo and Pat Swayze was still on the rise as a hot new Hollywood star.  Enter Surfing and skydiving. Film History on Videotape adds another to the stable of Beach Movies in July with Point Break.  The 1980's seemed fixated on the idea that a good looking cop could go undercover just about anywhere, and so it goes with this action thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow.  This flick is a home video cult classic for some reason despite the fact it was a decent success at the box office.  No sequel?  Oh a remake in 2015?
