With the lovely Steve in the k&k boudoir for episode 329, we chat about Katia's upcoming surgery, phone calls vs text messages vs emails and heinous technical difficulties. We officially ask Steve to become the k&k correspondent for Eurovision, then we discuss the hot McMacaron vs La Durée debate and decide that the only thing to do is test them out ourselves!
Axel and Michelle are still with us for episode 328, where they regale us with tales of their honeymoon in Africa - including safari adventures, animal-spotting, getting stuck in the mud, wildebeest encounters, camping with a massai tribe, some eye-opening brushes with poverty and a different way of life, polygamy, diarrhea and hiking up Kilimanjaro.
It's been a long time, but we're delighted to have the lovely Michelle and Axel with us in the k&k boudoir for episode 327! They tell us some of the latest news from Gadabout World, and we chat about where to find street art in Paris and weddings in France, and the very exclusive White Dinner they attended last year!
Frog is still wreaking havoc in the k&k boudoir in episode 326, as we talk about an email from a lovely listener, the once-obligatory military service in France, tim tam revolutions, Scottish accents the Highlander pub, s&m parties and Suze, how Katia corrupts American men and toilet paper.
Everyone's favourite Frog is in the k&k boudoir for episode 325, as we talk about who Frog looks like, Marion Cotillard, tittaes, musicals, recognising stars, the Oscars, photoshopping, scandals and the way they're perceived in different countries, food and wine salons and how to drink port.
The adorable SarahTexasSarah and Gui are still with us for episode 324, as we discuss cultural differences in the workplace. Gui tells us some stories from his internships in the US and Sarah talks about her experience as an American working in France! From showering with colleagues to free coffee and taco time, it's not wrong, it's just different!
We've got the lovely SarahTexasSarah and Gui in the k&k boudoir for episode 323 where, after a chat about our recent fascinating descent into the smelly Paris Sewers, we talk about how Sarah found herself in France and with a Frenchman. We discuss getting married, what it's like to "move countries", the difficulties of learning the language and deciding what country to live in as an "international couple", and what it's like to live so far away from family.
In episode 322 we get to talking about songs, losing earrings, Bejewelled Blitz, the Highlander, drunken Scottish boys, suze, Paris moments, taxi rides, mike stands.
In episode 321, we finally get around to celebrating February birthdays and reveal the video version of k&k learn french episode 100! We talk about Kylie's French movie challenge, getting cultured, seeing an hilariously funny Green Paradise play, catching up with Kylie's future in-laws, then we make some theatrical and musical musings and Kylie tells us about a recent musical she saw.
To celebrate the 100th episode of k&k learn french, we've made a super special video version of the show (as well as the usual audio version)! See exactly what happens when we record in the studio!
We've still got David Lebovitz (author of many books including the Sweet Life in Paris, The Perfect Scoop, and the soon to be released Ready for Dessert) in the studio with us for episode 320, where we talk about whether the French eat ice cream in the winter, what makes expats so nostalgic about goodies from home, cultural differences in the perception of food and it's value, how French food culture has changed in recent years, why fast food has become so popular here, why coffee tastes SO unbelievably crap in France, then he tells us about his newest book, Ready for Dessert.
We're rather excited to have David Lebovitz (author of many books including the Sweet Life in Paris, The Perfect Scoop, and the upcoming Ready for Dessert) in the k&k boudoir for episode 319. Whilst we eat cupcakes (thank goodness for the Wet Ones), we talk about a wide variety of things, including jelly wrestling (or aspic fighting), getting stuff done in France with food-related bribery, the "francophile phenomenon" and why so many people are enamoured with France, administration woes, how to drink Suze, Korean pancakes, and what effect chefs like Julia Child had on the perception of French food and whether the French can handle "change".
In episode 318 we talk about nights in castles and 3D movies, then we discuss a question about school camps in America (posed by Alexis of Philexis) and reminisce about childhood camping adventures. Katia brings up a PACs present etiquette dilemma, and then things get heated as we discuss the (in)gloriousness of snow.
In episode 317 Kylie tells us why her world is falling apart, then we chat extensively about our recent attempt to Get Cultured with a bunch of k&k listeners, by visiting Saint-Chapelle, La Conciergerie and the Cluny Museum (while eating falafel and playing foosball). We also talk about future Get Cultured adventures, meetups around the world and the various things happening in the k&k empire in the next couple of months!
After a highly emotional beginning, we get reflective in episode 316 as we have a long chat about how we have recently said goodbye to some good friends who have left Paris for new and exciting adventures, and the dilemma of being an expat in a city with a high turnover. Kylie then tells us about a recent massage she had, Katia gives an arm update, and we finish the episode with a spider story.
