Bula and welcome to Season 2 Episode 15 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this beautiful sunny Friday morning 15 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In the Oceania Womens Rugby Championship currently being totally overshadowed by the Irish tour of New Zealand, my wantok sisters of Papua New Guinea, heroically stopped the beautifully tattooed girls of Samoa from posting another century against them in their 91-0 loss yesterday, while Team Fijiana bossed Tonga 34-7 in the clash of the South Seas beauties. In NRL BREAKING NEWS - Wests Tigers have dropped a massive bombshell in appointing Tim Sheens as Head Coach for the next two seasons, with Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah as his Assistant Coaches, and with Marshall taking over from Sheens as Head Coach in 2025. And ONLY IN AMERICA - On the first day of unrestricted NHL free agency that’s ice hockey folks, Johnny Gaudreau signed a seven-year, US$68.3Million deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, or US$9.8M average salary per year. On the surface, the 28-year-old’s decision to spend his prime years in Columbus Ohio is very bizarre — the franchise has no chance of being a Stanley Cup contender, it has no hometown connection to him, and gave him less money than other teams could offer. Gaudreau reportedly turned down an eight-year offer at US$10.5M per year from the Calgary Flames — the first and only team he has ever played for and his hometown New Jersey Devils offered Gaudreau more than $10M a year average as well. But Gaudreau had other motivations saying, “I’ve never been to Columbus Ohio before and I was just like, Wow this looks like a nice place to be!” Columbus Ohio for less money – what is this boy smoking? Bula and welcome to Season 2 Episode 13 of Breakfast Bites by TeizvovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this beautiful Thursday morning 14 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. OK so it’s not quite Stephen Donald in the final of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, NO Michael Bent was not white baiting when the SOS call came through, BUT the pastures of a south Taranaki dairy farm are still far removed from the glare of international rugby. Now the semi-retired Taranaki prop is an unexpected inclusion in the touring Irish side to play the All Blacks in Wellington this weekend, as Ireland chase a first-ever series win over the All Blacks in almost 120 years. “It’s been a bloody good week,” Bent said modestly as he reflected on his unexpected call-up seven years after his last international appearance for Ireland. In rugby league – the Queensland Maroons won one of the greatest games in State of Origin history, defeating the New South Wales Blues 22-12 in the Series decider at Suncorp Stadium last night. “This is one of the most famous Maroons victories you will ever see,” Origin legend Cameron Smith gushed in his TV commentary. In football - First half goals from Klara Bühl and Alexandra Popp undid Spain 2-0 and sent Germany through to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 as Group B winners joining hosts England who had earlier spanked the Norwegian blondes 8 nil. In boxing – Tim Tszyu has finally landed his dream world title fight, but it’s not until 29 January 2023 somewhere in the US. The undefeated Australian superstar will get in the ring with undisputed Super Welterweight World Champion Jermell Charlo at (35-1-1) holder of the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO belts. AND ONLY IN AMERICA - You gotta hand it to the YouTubers the Paul bros – Jake and Logan - they are NOT boxers, what they’re really good at is creating hype around fake fights to make millions by monetising social media. Those of you old enough will remember how Sylvester Stallone did the same with the blockbuster film “Rocky” in the 1970s. Well these guys have outboxed Stallone by capturing the imagination and dreams of millions of millennial boxing wannabes. Imagine Jake Paul a YouTuber is boxing in the main event at Madison Square Garden in New York City in a couple of weeks – this is hallowed boxing grounds where Ali fought Frazier and Joe Lewis once fought Rocky Marciano. Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 13 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  warm Wednesday morning 13 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th  meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s  D-Day today! Game III of the 2022 State of Origin Series hangs in the  balance at one game apiece, with the decider tonight at the cauldron of  Queensland rugby league – Suncorp Stadium! That in itself has to give  the slightest advantage to the Maroons to win all the chocolates. In  rugby union - Māori All Blacks Head Coach, Clayton McMillan has called  on New Zealand Rugby to find more games for the team against quality  international opposition after they narrowly lost to Ireland last night  in Wellington 30-24. I  say the Maori All Blacks should be a permanent part of the Pacific  Nations Cup – nothing like banging heads against their coconut bros in  Fiji, Tonga and Samoa once a year to remind everyone of their Pasifika  roots. In  sports trivia - the sports memorabilia market has skyrocketed since the  start of the COVID19 pandemic, and is now worth a staggering  US$26Billion, AND is expected to grow to $227B by 2032, with NFT sports  collectibles – you know all that fake digitized sports stuff - forecast  to grow to a whopping $92B in 2032. In  boxing – Fans in the United Kingdom have congratulated British Olympic  boxer, Nicola Adams and her girlfriend Ella Baig after the birth of  their first child. The interracial couple welcomed a baby boy after their fourth round of IVF, having started their fertility treatment in 2019. Now is that like too much information or what? There  I was at 5am searching for good old boxing news, fight stats and stuff  like that for y’all and boom – this is the latest headline in boxing! Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 12 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  bright and sunny Tuesday morning 12 July 2022 - coming to you from the  180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. UNDER PRESSURE - Ian Foster’s win rate as All Blacks Coach has dipped below 70%. Since  taking over in 2020, his record reads: 16 wins, one draw and six losses  to five different teams. The last three All Blacks Coaches – Steve  Hansen, Graham Henry and John Mitchell all had win rates above 82%. COMPARE  THAT TO BIG Mal Meninga’s State of Origin win rate of 90% - the most  successful Head Coach in history, having won an astonishing nine ORIGIN  series in 10 years between 2006 and 2015. It’s a run of success that  many experts believe will never be repeated. After  Payne Haas bombed out of ORIGIN through injury, Jordan Maclean was  called up but he did a hammy at training so has gone back home. Now NSW  Blues boss, Freddy Fittler is calling on Junior Paulo to start ORIGIN  III and Fiji Bati Jacob Saifiti pulled in late to come off the bench. DID  YOU KNOW THAT right in the middle of the collapse of Sri Lanka - er as a  country, with rioters chasing the President out of office and burning  down the residence of the Prime Minister, the Australian cricket team is  touring there? Not  surprisingly, they slumped to a stunning innings defeat in Galle  yesterday as Sri Lanka ripped through the Aussies, taking 10 wickets for  102 runs to tie their two-Test cricket series. Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 11 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  bright and sunny Monday morning 11 July 2022 - coming to you from the  180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In  U20s international rugby - Phillip Baselala intercepted a pass and ran  70Metres for Fiji U20s first try and only points of the game against  Argentina, but in their first appearance at the Oceania Rugby U20  Championship, Los Pumitas thrashed Fiji 61-5. So  while all New Zealand is still reeling from the disaster in Dunedin on  Saturday night, the All Blacks U20s won the Oceania U20s Championship  title beating Australia 69-12 so heads up and keep smiling Kiwis it’s  not the end of the world. Meanwhile  in the NRL - Fiji Bati enforcer, Tariq Sims set two new records in the  St George Dragons versus Brisbane Broncos game at Suncorp Stadium  yesterday – he was Yellow carded twice and the first card was the  earliest ever in a game – after only three minutes! And  finally as expected in the Wimbledon Mens Tennis Finals in London  overnight, still unvaccinated Novak Djokovic swiped Nick Kyrgios aside  to win the title in four sets but not without a Kyrgios tantrum – the  Aussie bad boy blowing up at the Umpire over an intoxicated fan in the  front row for heckling him saying, “She's drunk out of her mind. Looks  like she's had 700 drinks bro' Ummm sounds like someone I know! For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Malo, vina’a and thank you! Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 10 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  lazy Sunday morning 10 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th  meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. A  disjointed Flying Fijians side lost 32-18 to Australia A in Lautoka,  Fiji yesterday afternoon. Too much individual play and very poor games  from both flyhalves Teti Tela and Ben Volavola were the obvious problems  for the Pacific Nations Cup favourties. In  the early game, Samoa came from behind to thump Tonga 35-18 for the  Tongan’s second straight loss while Manu Samoa remain undefeated. Meanwhile  in Women’s Oceania Rugby Team Fijiana absolutely thrashed 152-0 Papua  New Guinea in NZ yesterday and Samoa beat Tonga 25-18. Ireland created  history last night beating the All Blacks in New Zealand for the first  time ever 23-12, taking full advantage after the hosts lost Prop Angus  Ta'avao to an unfortunate red card in the first half in Dunedin. Irish  Prop Andrew Porter scored two tries and skipper Johnny Sexton added 13  points off the tee. Six years after their first victory over New Zealand in more than a century of trying, Ireland has now won four of their last seven Tests against the three-times World champions. In  other Test rugby results: the Wallabies 17-25 England, the Springboks  12-13 Wales, Japan 15-20 France and Argentina to sambuca Scotland this  morning. One  more Pasifika rugby highlight - Tonga will play Hong Kong in a Rugby  World Cup playoff on Australia's Sunshine Coast on 23 July, after Hong  Kong won the Asian title, beating South Korea 23-21. And  in the NRL - the Eels survived a scare from Wests Tigers who eventually  lost 28-20 at Leichhardt Oval last night. The Eels ran in two tries  while they had the extra man advantage and when Mitchell Moses scored  soon after the break, the Eels had a lead that proved unassailable in  the end. Finally in football - Eight-time Champions Germany started their EURO Women's 2022 title bid trashing Denmark 4 nil. Meanwhile England  Women had talks with manufacturers Nike due to concerns over playing in  their white shorts during their periods. Later, the FA and Nike issued a  statement pledging to take the issue into consideration going forward The only advice I can offer is “focus girls focus – the Germans are coming”. Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 9 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  sunny Saturday morning 09 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th  meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. OK  here’s our tips for all the Rugby Tests this weekend: In Lautoka today  Samoa to tomato sauce Tonga, the Flying Fijians to frito lay Australia  A, the All Blacks to big mac Ireland, the Wallabies to boris England,  the Springboks to salami Wales, Argentina to sambuca Scotland and Japan  to samurai France. At Wimbledon, Novak Djokavic is in his 32nd Major Final and 8th at Wimbledon up against the Notorius Nick Kyrios in his first ever  Grand Slam Final on Sunday – so who’s gonna win? Kyrios of course! Oh  no, not you too - Filipino boxing legend, Senator Manny Pacquiao, who  placed third in the recent Philippine Presidential elections and who  retired from boxing in September last year as the only eight-division  world champion with 62 wins, eight losses and two draws is making a  comeback, fighting Korean YouTuber DK Yoo. How about DK Yoo versus Jake Paul? For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Malo, vina’a and thank you! Bula and welcome to Season 2 Episode 8 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this beautiful Friday morning 08 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We start with a list of all the Rugby Tests on this weekend: In Lautoka on Saturday at 12midday Samoa v Tonga followed by the Flying Fijians v Australia A. In Dunedin at 7.05pm the All Blacks v Ireland followed at Suncorp in Brisbane by the Wallabies v England and at 3am the Springboks v Wales, 7am Sunday morning Argentina v Scotland and later on Sunday Japan v France. There’s also Womens XVs Tests in New Zealand where Samoa tackle Tonga and Fijiana play Papua New Guinea down in Palmerston. It’s that time of year again in the NRL when top Clubs lose players to the NSW Blues or Queensland Maroons ORIGIN squads and the bottom Clubs spank them BIG time, like how the Sharks whacked the Storm 6-28 last night. Is it fair – not really BUT who cares! In fake boxing - Tommy Fury has rejected Jake Paul’s US$500,000 offer to fight in Britain after once again being forced out of a clash with the YouTuber. Fury was set to face Paul on 6 August at Madison Square Garden for US$2M, but a travel ban has cost Fury a huge payday and a pay-per-view headline fight. Jake Paul the YouTuber insists that pay-per-view sales and sponsorship income would be dramatically lower in the UK. And finally a double serve of BREAKING NEWS from Wimbeldon this morning where Rafa Nadal has pulled out of his semifinal due to an abdominal tear, handling Aussie bad boy Nick Kyrgios a walkover into the final tomorrow. Staying with tennis – seems like the hot English summer and way too much Pimms has led to some spectators mis-using the new Prayer Rooms at Wimbledon for a quick romp. The All England Club website describes the new facility as “a space where guests can retreat for a moment of private meditation, prayer or reflection, or simply to escape the crowds around the grounds.” “Game, Sex and Match. See you later Boris you moron!” For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Malo, vina’a and thank you! Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 7 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  beautiful Thursday morning 07 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th  meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Former  All Blacks hooker James Parsons says that Fiji could prove to be the  surprise package of next year’s Rugby World Cup in France. This after  watching the Fijian Drua in Super Rugby Pacific and last weekend when  the Flying Fijians crunched Tonga 36 nil in the PNC. Parsons  said their new-found ability to dominate collisions while playing an  expansive and attacking brand of rugby bodes well for Fiji’s chances in  France. How  good is Brad Fittler as NSW Blues Coach? Well Phil Gould is the State’s  most successful Head Coach in NSW Blues history with six ORIGIN series  victories - and one draw – in his eight attempts between 1992 and 1996. Forget  Brad Fittler or Phil Gould - BIG Mal Meninga is State of Origin’s most  successful Head Coach in history, having won an astonishing nine ORIGIN  series in 10 years between 2006 and 2015, in a run of success that many  experts believe will never be repeated. Israel  Adesanya is at the top of his game, a promoter’s dream who talks the  talk and walks the walk. Now the whole MMA world is paying attention to  the Oceania region, like at last weekend’s UFC276 with Adesanya and  Australian Featherweight King Alexander Volkanovski. Thanks bro and keep up the good work. For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Malo, vina’a and thank you! Bula  and welcome to Season 2 Episode 6 of Breakfast Bites by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this  beautiful Wednesday morning 06 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th  meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. English  rugby commentator, Stuart Barnes has said what most Pacific Islanders  already know but keep to ourselves – “All Black No 8 Ardie Savea would  do a better job as openside flanker than All Blacks Captain, Sam Cane.”  In fact, writing for The Times in England, Barnes called for the All  Black selectors to sack Cane because “he is not good enough to play for  the All Blacks". Media  reports that Reece Walsh is set to sign, or has already signed with the  Broncos are simply NOT true — the race for his signature isn’t over  yet. The Dolphins are lining up to pinch the young gun with Wayne  Bennett, a bag full of dollars and that Clint Eastwood stare. Two-time MVP Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets signed a five-year, US$270 million supermax contract extension, making it the largest in NBA history. There's  only one day left to go before UEFA Women's EURO 2022 kicks off, with  hosts England taking on Austria in the opening game at Old Trafford,  Manchester. 500,000 tickets have already been sold. EASY  MONEY - WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury is in talks with the  WWE about appearing at their upcoming UK promotion at the Principality Stadium in Wales where they expect a sell-out 75,000 fans. Only in the USA - Joey Chestnut remains the Hot Dog King of the World after defending his title for the 15th time in Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island New York on the 4th of July. Chestnut cruised to victory eating 63 hot dogs. I gotta get some of my Tongan cousins onto this project. For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Malo, vina’a and thank you! Bula and welcome to Season 2 Episode 5 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this beautiful Tuesday morning 05 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby - in typical Kiwi style, Flying Fijians Head Coach Vern Cotter is keeping the big win against Tonga in the PNC last Saturday in perspective, saying there is still much work to be done by his team who play Australia A next while Tonga and Samoa go to war in Lautoka on Saturday. And France put together a strong second-half performance for a commanding 42-23 victory over Japan in the first test in Aichi on Saturday, while Argentina celebrated their first home test in almost three years with a close-fought 26-18 victory over Scotland. In rugby league - New South Wales Blues boss, Brad Fittler has gone with the one-two punch combination at Hooker with Api Koroisau named to start and Damien Cook coming off the bench for the deciding State of Origin III at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane next Wednesday night. In football transfer news - IT’s OFFICIAL Gabriel Jesus has left Man City after five and a half years at Etihad Stadium where he played 236 games scoring 95 goals in helping them win four Premier League titles, an FA Cup triumph and three Carabao Cups. Arsenal paid US$55Million for the Brazilian Striker. After admitting he had an off-night beating Jared Cannonier in UFC276 in Las Vegas last weekend, UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya likes the idea of taking on Alex Pereira in the octagon. “That’s the next fight,” Adesanya told reporters yesterday.  For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Malo, vina’a and thank you! Bula and welcome to Season 2 Episode 4 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this beautiful Monday morning 04 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby union SENSATIONAL BREAKING NEWS: Images of a drone spying on the Tongan team Captain's run at Albert Park in Suva last Friday have been posted on social media by Tongan fans. They say the drone must have been streaming video of their team moves to the Flying Fijians, after which it flew away out of sight. The Flying Fijians won 36 nil on Saturday, shutting down all the dangerous attacking raids of star Tongan strike weapons Malakai Fekitoa, Siale Piutau and Israel Folau with ease. Staying with rugby - France put together a strong second-half performance for a commanding 42-23 victory over Japan in the first test in Aichi on Saturday, while Argentina celebrated their first home test in almost three years with a close-fought 26-18 victory over Scotland. In football - PSG Football Club has linked up with Qatar Airways for a new sponsorship deal worth an estimated US$84Million annually. The airline has backed the Qatar State-owned French team since 2020, with what critics say are fake sponsorship deals disguising direct government funding. Bula and welcome to Season 2 Episode 3 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports highlights on this beautiful Sunday morning 03 July 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. As we tipped yesterday: In Suva Samoa samboed Australia A 31-26, Fiji djangoed Tonga 36 nil. At Eden Park last night, the All Blacks fandangoed Ireland 42-19 and Australia fumigated England in Perth 30-28. Early this morning in Pretoria, South Africa walarooed Wales 32-29 and Argentina scooby dooby dooed Scotland In the NRL last night, the Cowboys blitzed the Broncos 26-40 scoring six converted tries in front of a packed house in Townsville, while South Sydney clobbered the Parramatta Eels 12-30 thanks to a barnstorming Latrell Mitchell, returning after 12 weeks out injured with rehab in the US. And following his recent MVP award, a Warriors jersey that Steph Curry wore in this year's NBA Finals has just sold for US$343,200. Apparently the buyer can now hit 30-foot jumpers! In football - England's Under-19 won the European Championships yesterday. The Young Lions came from behind in the final in Slovakia, to beat Israel 3-1 in extra time. Not exactly sure how Israel got there – to the EUROs! In boxing, a bloody see-sawing scrap in Broadbeach, Queensland, in broad daylight yesterday, southpaw Jai Opetaia held on to win the IBF World Cruiserweight title from Latvian, Mairis Briedis by unanimous points decision.
