How to build a career of dream jobs in media, content and digital technology with Danny Keens | EP26 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:01

Dream Job Ready Episode 26: Danny Keens (Content Acquisition, Production, Programming and Distribution expert). "Circumstance and opportunity collided.” That was Danny’s response when I asked him how he got his dream job (Senior Vice President, Content, Production & Programming) at Next VR. It's a great story, but it's also supported by hard work, focus and passion, which Danny talks about plenty in the episode. Danny started his career in Australia with the Nine Network after completing a Bachelor of Arts at Charles Sturt University. He left Nine for ESPN and then eventually left TV for Technology, landing a dream job at Twitter in New York in 2014 (Head of Sports Partnerships). "At the time, no I didn’t think twice about it. It felt right. It felt like the right move at the right time. The right group of people, the right industry to be in, the right challenge. But in reflection, I don’t know where I found the courage to do it, because now as we talk about it I look back and most people would say I’m crazy but I’m so thankful I did it because it’s been a really great journey." As well as taking advice from Danny's career journey, I ask him plenty in the interview about getting work, making the right job changes and being a great employee. "The best employees are the ones that have a can-do attitude and get the job done. I like to surround myself with people who don’t just tell you about the problem, they tell you how they’re going to solve the problem."  Job advice about workplace culture, change, challenges & situational awareness | EP25 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4:40

This is a 5 minute Quick Take episode that highlights a great piece of advice shared by Scott Randall (Oakley) in Episode 18 of Dream Job Ready. (If you haven't listened to Scott's interview, go check it out!). Scott has worked with Oakley for over 16 years and is currently the brand's Director of Global Category Strategy for Oakley Sunglasses. He's also worked with Nike in the past, so his interview in Episode 18 has a lot of great insights and tips about getting dream jobs for big, famous, sports retail brands. For this Quick Take, I share Scott’s answer to the Listener Question of the Week, which was submitted by listener, Simon, who works in the retail industry.Simon’s question to Scott was “What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from each of the big brands you’ve worked for…? There's gold in his answer, as Scott talks about the value of organisational culture in the workplace, feeling fulfilled when working with like-minded people, accepting challenges, navigating and embracing change, and being comfortable with being uncomfortable. He also reveals why situational awareness is a pillar of success and why accountability is key. Thanks for listening, rating, subscribing and sharing Dream Job Ready.  Career, Entrepreneur & Business Advice with Marketing Expert, Blandine Jean-Paul | EP24 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:48

Dream Job Ready Episode 24: Blandine Jean-Paul (Owner of B’Dynmanic Marketing Agency)."Never look at an opportunity sideways. It could be your gateway to something else." That's the golden answer Blandine gave me when I asked her for advice for the next generation chasing dream jobs with the types of companies (ESPN, Diageo, Heineken, Hasbro & New York Knicks) she's worked with. Write that down!Blandine and I first connected when she was working with ESPN and I was working with Rip Curl. She held Senior Director roles there for over 7 years and managed projects such as the ESPY Awards, MMA and Boxing, the New York City Marathon and Major League Baseball. Prior to ESPN she worked with the New York Knicks basketball organisation, Golden Books and TV Guide. Post ESPN she has had dream jobs with Diageo, Heineken, Hasbro and SmileDirectClub, before going out on her own and launching B’Dynmanic Marketing Agency in 2019."You might find yourself getting to a dream job by zig zagging, not via a straight line. Dream jobs are not built on straight lines."More valuable advice and a precursor to the bulk of our discussion in this episode. We cover many of great topics, including how to successfully manage client relationships, how to be part of a great team, how to manage work and travel, job preparation advice, listening, defining motivation, working for underdog companies and why being happy is the most important thing in the world. Diverse but crucial! You'll enjoy this episode...  Retail, Business & Marketing Career Advice with Alita Harvey-Rodriguez & Natalie Khoury (MI Academy) | EP23 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:33

Dream Job Ready Episode 23: Alita Harvey-Rodriguez (Managing Director, MI Academy) and Natalie Khoury (Director of CX, MI Academy). Do you work in retail or dream to be a brand leader in the retail industry? As a customised training provider, 'MI Academy' helps retailers transform their skill-sets in customer experience (CX), marketing approach and sales impact. Their goal is to encourage businesses and their staff to think, creatively. I met Alita and Natalie via their innovative 'MI Academy Retail Hack Games' event held in June 2020. That event asked a stack of questions about the future of retail, but one of the key topics we discussed was the future of the retail workforce. With the increase use and application of artificial intelligence, automation and robotics, there is an obvious concern about jobs and employees being replaced, and plenty of questions about how that will be handled. I asked Alita and Nat for their opinions on this, and we discussed our thoughts on what it means to both the employer and employees. Business wise, we cover plenty in this 25min chat. The girls share some awesome advice about company training, closed-loop strategies, collaboration and design thinking. On the personal side, Alita and Nat talk about the importance of emotional intelligence and unconscious bias, and share insights about how they "slow down to speed up", a slogan that is one of MI Academy's values. I really hope you pick up something from this episode... And I'd love to know your feedback, so please email me with any thoughts or questions you have on dreamjobreadypodcast@gmail.com or connect via:LinkedIn / https://www.linkedin.com/company/dreamjobreadyTwitter / @dreamjobreadyFacebook / @dreamjobreadyInstagram / @dreamjobreadyAnd if you'd like to financially support this podcast series, please make a contribution via https://supporter.acast.com/dream-job-ready-1.  Challenge everything and become successful | EP22 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:58

What is the one habit that makes you successful? I asked Dr Sameer Dixit (Scientist & Director of Research at Center for Molecular Dynamics Nepal) this question in Episode 08 and answer is a powerful one: Challenge Everything. I included Dr Dixit's soundbite in this Quick Take episode, because I think it's such a great mindset to have. Transcript: Host: "What is the one habit that makes you successful?" Sameer: "I challenge everything. I challenge everything that I read. I challenge everything that I hear. I challenge everything that's in the news. I even challenge things I read in peer reviews, whether it's on nature or science. I challenge, not just to contradict what the authors are saying or the people are saying, but just to give me something to look at, some angles that people may have missed completely. And that seems to help me find new research topics and to find new avenues to look at the same issue from a different perspective altogether. As a scientist, you must challenge everything you get and everything you read, even if it comes in journals or nature or science or wherever you work, and I do that all the time." Host: "I love that! Challenge... I think that's universal. It doesn't matter what role you're in, I think that's a great habit and a great mindset." Thanks for listening, rating, subscribing and sharing Dream Job Ready. "How do I stand out when I’m applying for a job?" It's a common question, but there's never been a more important time to ask it and listen for answers. Unemployment is at an all-time high and the job market is super competitive, so you'll probably need to do more than just submit a resume and cover letter to a job ad to land that dream job you’re chasing. Our first 'Quick Take' episode references advice Carolyn Breeze (General Manager of GoCardless) shared in Episode 03. She’s a big advocate of the “show me, don’t tell me” approach and has hired people that make an impact during the application process.  Mark 'Howie' Howard: Cricket & AFL Commentator & Podcaster | EP12 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:44

Dream Job Ready Episode 12: Mark 'Howie' Howard (Cricket & AFL Commentator & Podcaster). Mark Howard (better known as Howie) is a long-time successful sports journalist, presenter and commentator in Australia. He's a lead commentator on Network 10's coverage of Australian and International Cricket, and commentates the AFL (Australian Football League) on Triple M radio. If you work in media or are studying to enter the industry, Mark gives up invaluable advice throughout this episode about the do's and don'ts of successful broadcast journalism. As he says in the interview, he's done it all and said YES to every opportunity that has come his way. He "stumbled" into his career, but has gone from strength to strength with this mindset and backs it for anyone just getting started. He also shares some great 'how to' tips about commentating and interviewing top talent. Howie hosts his own Podcast series called "The Howie Games", which has racked up over 20 million downloads from over 100 episodes. He's interviewed the who's who in professional sport. I ask him a stack of questions I hope students, graduates and young journalists will find helpful, and he shares some amazing insights and stories while we're discussing his career - explaining how he got started, how he built his experience and how he continues to develop his skills even as a house-hold name. I think Howie enjoyed the opportunity to be interviewed instead of doing the interview, and I really enjoyed the chance to learn more about his rise to the top and his Dream Jobs. Big thanks to the University of Wollongong for supporting Dream Job Ready and for everyone listening, rating, subscribing and sharing this podcast series. ...The Howie Games podcast: https://www.howiegames.com...Music: ‘Funky Sunday’ composed and performed by Mark MatthewsCopyright 2020RemarkableSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/dreamjobready.
