QA 41 – How do I find affiliates for my digital product | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In today’s Q&A, we are talking about how an affiliate program can help Kyle sell more of his digital product. [Tweet "What you really want to do with an affiliate program is to build relationships with people who are in your space."] Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! Resources Mentioned in this Episode Today’s question from Kyle Nelson at Cornerstone Coaching Academy Ejunkie Clickbank Let’s dive into this week’s question JOCELYN: Hey ya'll, you're listening to Q&A with S&J. SHANE: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work. We are your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside-down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let's get started. SHANE: What's going on ya'll? Welcome back to Q&A with S&J, good to be with you to answer your questions about online business today. Our question today comes from Kyle Nelson at Cornerstonecoachingacademy.com. Kyle writes, "I run a membership site for baseball coaches. My members love my content and the feedback I get from them is outstanding. I am struggling with getting my membership in front of enough people to make more money. I'm not in a position to run paid advertising and I'm relatively new in a competitive area. So I don’t get much traffic from Google searches yet. Have you guys ever used an affiliate sales site like ClickBank or have you used any affiliate plug-ins for WordPress to find your own affiliates? Thanks, keep up the great work." JOCELYN: Hey Kyle, thanks for your question. Let's talk first of all about what affiliate programs are. There might be some people out there who don’t really understand the question. What Kyle is asking is if he could possibly get his product in the hands of other people who do similar things or similar coaching sites and have them sell his product for a commission. A lot of people do this and make a lot of money doing it. It's not something that I have a ton of experience with personally but Shane has used it several times. He has a list of products on ClickBank. ClickBank is just a site that has numerous products on it that you can sell for an affiliate commission. You don’t necessarily have to know the person that you are trying to sell the product and that's certainly a viable option. It would not hurt anything for you to put your product on ClickBank but we're not really sure that that is the best option for you at this point. SHANE: What you really want to do with an affiliate program is you want to build relationships with people who are in your space. So, you need to find affiliates. You can throw things up randomly on ClickBank but it's going to take people randomly looking for certain products in your area, randomly finding you, randomly liking that product and randomly selling it. While that's good, you can put things out there and you could even manage your affiliate program through that but you want to go out and find affiliates. You want to go build relationships with people and maybe you can have them go through ClickBank to be able to pay their commissions and things like that but you're going to have a lot more success with affiliate marketing if you actually know the people. I know people in the football space that I sell affiliate products for; there's a youth football coach named Dave Cisar and I actually sell his youth products on my CoachXO site because I'm not a youth football coach. I don’t want to take the time to go out and create youth football products but I have a lot of youth coaches that use Coachxo.com to talk about football. So I want to be able to provide them a product so I have approached Coach Cisar and he made something for me and I g...

QA 40 – Do I Really Need a Shopping Cart or Can I Just Use PayPal? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:39

In today's Q&A, we are answering whether or not you really need a shopping cart or should you just rely on Paypal. Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! Resources Mentioned in this Episode Today's question comes from Douglas Andrews at JobInterview-Coach.com Ejunkie - for delivering digital products Paypal - for accepting payments online Check out our consulting page to see how we automate this service Acuity Scheduling - our scheduling tool of choice Let’s dive into this week’s question! JOCELYN: Hey y’all, you’re listening to Q&A with S&J. SHANE: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast, where life always comes before work. We’re your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let's get started. JOCELYN: Hey guys, welcome back to the Q&A with S&J. Today’s question is from Douglas Andrews at JobInterview-Coach.com. SHANE: We’ve got a string of good domain names. People looking up around here, it’s pretty good stuff. JOCELYN: Yeah, it’s pretty good. Douglas says: “I understand how to use E-junkie and PayPal to collect money and deliver an ebook but can I do the same thing with just PayPal to create a link for services rendered? For example, I want to offer one on one interview services.” SHANE: Okay, that’s a great question. Let’s take that into two parts. Let’s look at just the ebook. If you take payments from PayPal for an ebook or some kind of digital product, the problem is, you’ve got to get that file to the person who paid you money for it. Now if you only have PayPal, you can do that. Starting out if you want to save $10 here and there and not set all that up, you could just take payments. You see it come through that someone paid you money. You can email them the file manually. Now, there are a couple of problems there. #1) You’re not creating passive income. You’re having to physically touch every transaction. It’s like you’re having to go to your shelf and get the product off the shelf for the person every time they come in. #2) People are used to downloading things instantly. When they pay with PayPal and they are on the internet, they want their file now. They don’t want to wait for you to have to email it within 24-48 hours. They want to get their product. PayPal doesn’t do that. PayPal is not going to send them a file or anything like that. So you are going to need a shopping cart solution to deliver things like ebooks. PayPal will take the payment. A shopping cart like E-junkie is going to send the file. Both of them are doing what they do. For coaching, you could just set up a button and you could say, “Oh yeah, I want to do a coaching service or interview process.” You could take the payment and then you could do that. But the thing is, there are also other products out there that lets you schedule things automatically. For example, when we take consulting, you can get consulting with us at FlippedLifestyle.com/TalktoUs and if you sign up for our consulting services, you don’t get a file but what you do get is an email with a link to a calendar and then the person can go schedule the consulting call on their own so we never have to touch it. We always want to create systems where we don’t have to touch anything. So even with something like interview services or coaching service, take the payment and then automate your scheduling, and you’ll be much better off. JOCELYN: We use a service called Acuity Scheduling. We’ll put a link to that in the show notes. I love that one because you can take a payment ...

QA 39 – When should I hire an expert, and when should I do it myself? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:04

In today's Q&A, we are sharing when you should hire an expert to create pricing bundle options for your website. Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! Resources Mentioned in this Episode Easy Digital Downloads plugin Pricing bundle options on Elementary Librarian and our Flip Your Life eCourse Hire someone from Odesk, Fiverr or Elance Let’s dive into this week’s question! What’s going on guys? Welcome back to another Q&A with S&J mini podcast where we answer your questions on our podcast twice a week. I wanted to plug something here real quick. We are also going to open a mail bag. We’re having trouble getting to all of these questions because it does take a little time to record, edit, and do all of these things to get them online like in the iTunes and things like that. We’re going to actually start answering some of the questions that you submit to us on a mail bag blog post where we can type out a quick answer or we can quickly do a screen capture to record a tutorial and hopefully, those will be coming out a couple of times a week. Make sure you are checking back to the blog every day. Don’t just check on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday when our podcast comes out. Make sure you’re checking on the other days because we’re going to start answering even more of your questions online because we have so many that we just want to make sure we get to as many people as possible and get those questions answered. Today’s question on the podcast comes from Adrianne  and she writes writes: “My question is, how do I make a bundle image like you have on your lesson plan options page? You have three options side by side and each one has its own “buy it now” button. Should I hire someone to do this? I love the way it looks. It would fit perfectly with what I want to do and sell online. I’m moving over to Easy Digital Downloads plug in over the break and I just wanted to incorporate something similar to that. Thanks guys. You rock.” JOCELYN: All right, thanks so much for your question and in case you’re wondering, we will put some links to what Adrianne is talking about on my Elementary Librarian page, the lesson plan options, and also a link to the Easy Digital Downloads plug-in. SHANE: You can also see exactly how we do that. We have the same bundle set up on FlippedLifestyle.com/FlipYourLife and when you click over to the pricing options, you can see how we list our bundled options side by side there. JOCELYN: All right. So I’d like to tell you that there’s a real simple answer to this question but there actually is not. The technical answer to this question is the way that you do this is that you create tables in HTML and you style them using CSS. SHANE: Which is all programmer speak so… JOCELYN: And so if that is as foreign of a language as it is to me, you probably will need to hire somebody to do this, and that’s actually what I did on both of these sites. SHANE: This kind of touches on a deeper question is when should you try to do something by yourself in your online business and when should you hire an expert. Now, Jocelyn and I both do understand HTML and CSS a little bit. We kind of know like how it works but by no means are we experts or coders by any stretch of the imagination. It would be laughable for us to try to figure o...

JOCELYN: Hey guys, welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast. We are very excited this week to bring you another Flipped Podcast. This one is with Chris and Rikka Brandon. We’re so excited to have you guys on today. Thanks for being guests on our show. RIKKA: Thanks for having us. SHANE: All right guys, tell us a little bit about yourselves and what you do now, like for a living, kind of where you’re from and just the nuts and bolts of kind of where you are in life. RIKKA: Okay, I’ll start. Obviously this is Rikka. I have been an executive recruiter since 2001. I have owned my own business since 2003. I have been doing it a really long time and just sort of ready for a change. We spent the last year living in Mexico because we are in Moorhead, Minnesota which is right across the river from Fargo, North Dakota and it gets cold. The winters get long and so we moved to Mexico last year and that really lit the fire for the flipped lifestyle approach. Chris? CHRIS: I was a Unix system administrator and then I was a team lead before. Rikka convinced me that I should quit my corporate life and move to Mexico for a year. And then now that I’ve come back, I’ve actually gone back to where I used to work as a consultant. So I’m still, you know, being a consultant is nice but I’m still kind of looking for the not going to an office every day from 8-5. SHANE: Sure. Rikka, what is an executive recruiter? What is that? What do you do? RIKKA: Basically, when companies do need to find somebody with really specific skills and talents, they call me and I find it. I have been really heavily focused on building products and building materials,

QA 38 – How to Pin Posts Correctly on Pinterest | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:20

Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let's get started. JOCELYN: Hey guys, welcome to today’s Q&A mini podcast. We are here today with a question from Walter Gould. SHANE: Gould, G-O-U-L-D. JOCELYN: That would be a G. SHANE: G-O-U-L-D. JOCELYN: Sorry Walter. SHANE: Gould, Walter Gould. JOCELYN: I’m sorry we messed up your name. “My wife, Vicky, who is an elementary PE teacher, and I are in the beginning stages of starting a business, Elementarypeteacher.com. One of our struggles has been getting our arms around social media, in particular, Pinterest. We have started pinning pins on Vicky’s Pinterest page that link back to blog post but we’re not sure we’re doing it correctly and we’re not sure how to get the “learn more at website” to hover over the pins.” All right, Walter, we have done some fine investigating on this topic. SHANE: Sherlock Holmes has on this morning trying to figure this out. What Walter is talking about is in your feed on Pinterest or like when you search for something and all the little board show up or whatever, and I am by no means an expert on Pinterest. Jocelyn is way more into Pinterest than I am. We looked at I and what happens is when you’re flipping your mouse like overall the little things that people have pinned, lo and behold, down at the bottom, when you hover your mouse over a certain thing, a little sentence pops up that says, “Learn more at Elementarypeteacher.com” if it was one of Walter’s pins. The difference is if you go look at your boards, they do not do that. When you hover over your own pins, like on your own boards, that little sentence does not pop up like that. As far as we can tell, Walter, this only happens in the feed or the search results and does not happen on your own boards. If you’re looking at your own boards and that’s not popping up, as far as we can tell, that does not happen there so don’t freak out like you’re doing something wrong because we’re not sure for sure if it even is suppose to happen on your own boards. It only happens in the actual feed. JOCELYN: Or at least from when I was looking at this morning. Another thing that you can do, there is a little pin it button and you can actually get this for any browser. We use the Chrome browser and it is an… SHANE: It’s like an extension that you download into your browser basically. JOCELYN: Yeah, and you can actually even download it from Pinterest. If you just type in “Pinterest pin it button,” it will take you right there and you can download for whichever browser you use. This is how I pin all of the things from my website and I like using the pin it button because you can pin it from your website and it will automatically pop up with all of the information that Pinterest wants. Right there, you can type in the description of your pin and that’s a great way to type in something that somebody might be searching for in Pinterest so you want to make sure you have a good description there. Remember that people can change that so it’s always go...

Welcome back to another Q&A with S&J. We have a question today from Joanne Westbrook. Joanne is actually the first person to ever have two questions answered on our podcast. She was actually the mastermind behind our long podcast where we talked about how to start a business with $100, what was it? How to start a business in 30 days with $100? JOCELYN: One hour a day… SHANE: One hour a day with 30 exactly, there you go. Wait I’m confused. JOCELYN: Yeah. SHANE: All right moving on to Joanne’s question, here we go. “How big should your email list be before you consider creating a digital product or online course? Also, where did you learn to create your online course and do you recommend any certain resources for learning how to create and launch an online course of my own? Thanks again for keeping it real and sharing great information.” JOCELYN: All right, Joanne, so talking about email list, you don’t necessarily have to have a really big email list before you start creating products. In fact, you probably want to have one product created before you even start an email list and the reason being is so that you can get emails from people who want to get your free digital product. That’s how I started out on my site, ElementaryLibrarian.com before I even started selling anything or really even started growing the site a whole lot. The very first thing that I did was create a short digital product and that was one month of lesson plans that I put out there so that people could sign up for my email list. I knew that if people wanted that one month of lesson plans, they would probably be interested in purchasing the other months of lesson plans. So that was my number one priority when I was first getting started is to get that initial digital product out there to grow that email list for future products that I would put out. SHANE: So the moral of the story is none, zero. You should have a digital product available for when that audience starts showing up. If you really want to get into like the course thing, you’re talking about a bigger product here. You know, your first digital product is going to be something small, maybe a 20-page e-book or something like that that you can just use. It could either sell for a little bit of money to verify that your product is worth something or you want to take an email list and send it to people for free. When you’re talking about an online course, you’re talking about something much bigger. This is a bigger project and you probably are going to need some interest in that before you sell it, but really, you don’t need that many.

QA 36 – How To Not Get Scammed When You Start Internet Marketing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:42

Resources Mentioned in this Episode Fiverr.com Check out VectorStock for stock images, icons and buttons Amazon.com Let’s dive into this week’s question! JOCELYN: Hi guys welcome back to today’s Q&A with S&J. Today’s question is from… SHANE: Wait a minute, it’s Valentine’s Day. JOCELYN: It is Valentine’s Day. SHANE: Happy Valentine’s Day and all the romance out there going down. JOCELYN: Yeah, if you listen to our podcast, you know how romantic we get. SHANE: Yeah, it’s our Tuesday show, you’re probably like, what do these guys say? “I love you, Jocelyn.” JOCELYN: Yeah. I love you too, dear. SHANE:  All right, read the question. JOCELYN: This is getting awkward. So today’s question comes from Penny. Penny says: “At 51 with limited computer knowledge, I started researching internet marketing. The more I learned, the more overwhelmed I’ve become. Blogs, affiliate marketing, emails, podcasts, drop shipping, etc. Do you have any suggestions for where I can learn the basics that is not a scam?” SHANE: All right, before we start talking about where to start in your online business, let’s talk about not getting scammed because that is a great question and I think that everybody needs to hear something like what we’re about to say when they first start out because there are a lot of people out there peddling crap. Really, a lot of people are teaching things that they are just not qualified to teach but they see other people doing it, they start some stuff, they have a snazzy website, and it makes it look like they are an expert when really, you’re just buying junk. We want to make sure today that we help you avoid the scammers, so to speak, out there. So we want to give you a couple of things to look for when you’re looking at any online expert or when you’re listening to a new podcast, or you’re looking at a sales page, you’re thinking about taking some kind of course to help you get to the next level. We want to make sure that you don’t get ripped off and you don’t lose your money. The first thing that you should look at whenever you’re looking at an online expert to kind of see what they are about to make sure they are not scamming you is to look what they are promising. If people are promising you that 100%, this is the magic secret that is going to make $600,000 in a year, you’re going to quit your job, and you’re going to move to a beach in Costa Rica, everything is going to be okay with your life, and this is the one program that you need to make that happen, that is not true because we are very upfront and honest when we tell people online business is very hard. This is a marathon, not a sprint. To get to where we are or to get where other people are where you’re making money online and you get to quit your job and things like that is really, really tough and it’s not a magic pill kind of thing where you find the course that’s going to make it happen. It’s more a collection of steps along the way that you kind of ...

 QA 35 – How To Launch A Facebook Page | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:58

In today's Q&A, we are talking about launching a Facebook Page. People get confused when it comes to Facebook pages. How many times should you post your content and what's the best way to launch it? We are answering this question now! Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! Resources Mentioned in this Episode Facebook Flipped Lifestyle Facebook Page Check out this podcast on What you should be focusing on when you start a blog or website Let’s dive into this week’s question! What's up guys? Welcome back to our Q&A mini-podcast. We got another awesome question for you today. Our question today comes from Marnie Gensburg. Alright, Marnie writes: “How would you recommend launching a new Facebook page. I'm stocking up with several blog post as you recommended on my website, but should I have several Facebook post before I start promoting the page?” So I think what Marnie is asking here basically is, in the other podcast that we had a while back, we recommended that when you launch your actually website for your product, your service or whatever your doing, that you go ahead and and write 10 blog post before you ever create the WordPress page. Once it's live you just immediately launch all 10 of those. That way, if someone finds your website and they read an article, they're gonna' have other things to look at and it's not gonna look like you've just started out. So you kind of see that website that way. A Facebook page, I think that works a little bit different. I think you can just go in, you don't have to put 50 post on there or anything like that and make it look like your Facebook page is been really active for awhile. Facebook page takes a little bit time  to kind of get your vibe going, you got to create you cover art or change you're picture and do all these things. I think with a Facebook page what you should probably do, is just start the page. Maybe the first couple of days you're gonna' post a little bit more often. You can go ahead and post some links and things like that. But you don't have to sit there and make it back-date everything and put a hundred posts, make it look like your Facebook page is existed forever. I would just take a week or so and work on it. Once you feel like you've kind of got it fleshed out and it looks a little polished, you've got some activity generated there. Maybe share it with your friends actually promoting it with Ads at first to get a few likes and get all those things going. You're gonna have to do that anyway to get up to certain amount of likes before you can create an Ad. But get some people on there, get some people talking and get a little engagement and just let it flow. Don't just sit there for an entire day and make it look like you're page has been there for a year when it really hasn't. JOCELYN: One thing you can do now instead of actually trying to back-date everything, you can actually schedule posts in Facebook now, which is a pretty cool little thing. If you go into your page and you go like you're going to post something on it. There is a button that say: "Post in the bottom right". There's also a little arrow there, if you click on that down arrow, it says: "Schedule Post". So what you can do, is you can go in and putting post for however ma...
