SMRPodcast #231: Chicken Wings And Beer Part 27 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:38:36

SMRpodcast Episode #231 is online and ready for download.  This week it is just Robb and Chris, so, we hit you with another edition of Chicken Wings and Beer. Show Details Recorded: November 05th, 2014 Published: November 06th, 2014 Duration: 01hr 38min 36sec This week we start off with a bit of gaming, as, Robb picked up Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and has become an instant fan.  It may not be the best CoD ever, but, it definitely redeems itself after that hot mess of a release last year CoD Ghosts. A new report comes out that states Apple dominates smartphone profits owning 86% across the industry in the U.S.  Samsung is the only other manufacturer worth mentioning with 18%, a number that is actually in decline.  iOS may not be the most popular smartphone operating system but it is definitely making the most money selling it. Microsoft released its fitness tracking smart watch called the Microsoft Band last week.  Rod ordered two, Chris drove to the Microsoft Store and bought two, and Robb, an admitted watch snob, sits this one out. Microsoft inks a deal with Dropbox, Alex Springer asks Google to add them back to its index, and the Microsoft Surface is the perfect iPad stand for CNN corespondents.  We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #231 of the SMRpodcast.  SMRPodcast #228: A little social talk | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:48:00

SMRpodcast episode #228 has been recorded, posted online, and is ready for download.  We've got a full crew this episode after a 1 week hiatus last week.  We start the show off with a Chicken Wings and Beer type flair as we ponder what "probable cause" really means while Robb and Chris recollect on not so positive encounters with law enforcement. Rod gives us the rundown on what he likes about his new iPhone 6 Plus as well as what he doesn't like.  Robb and Rod both believe it to be the best camera phone ever, but, but aren't overly impressed with the the latest version of iOS. We discus the the DropBox security breach and strongly encourage all DropBox users to change their passwords and use 2-factor authentication if possible. Creating a new, strong, unique password for DropBox is a good start, but having something you know (your password) as well as something you have (cell phone) is better. Skype launches Qik, a new video only messaging app, Chris completes his cutting of the cord by cancelling his Direct TV subscription,   Samsung misses earnings estimate by 60%, and Google is about to announce a new Nexus Phone and Nexus tablet.  We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #228 of the SMRpodcast.  SMRPodcast #227: More Hands | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:53:00

Episode #227 of the SMRpodcast has been recorded, is online, and is ready for download.  This week we start of a discussion of how Rod doesn't hate his brand new iPhone 6 Plus.  This isn't a complement, however, because he dislikes the device significantly so. We also talk a bit about "Bendgate" and ponder if the ease of which the iPhone 6 Plus can be bent is a thing or not a thing.  The entire crew kind of feels that the media hype may be a bit over blown, but, think the 6 Plus probably should be a bit more durable. Microsoft confirms that the official name of its next operating system will be Windows 10.  Windows 10 will be the one operating system for MS going forward is it will run on Windows Phone, Tablets, and PCs.  Windows 10 will also sport a single App Store across all platforms. Apple bans publication for doing its own "BendGate" tests, Microsoft is opening a store in Saks Fifth Avenue, Ebay is spinning off PayPal, and, Netflix will release the sequel to Crouching Tiger Hidden Tiger simultaneously to is theater debut.  We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #227 of the SMRpodcast.  SMRPodcast #226: It only happens to you | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:43:00

SMRpodcast #226 has been recorded, is online, and, is ready for download. We are back to a full crew this week and we kick the show off with the story of how Rod never seems to get that "Apple Store" level of customer service whenever he goes into an Apple Store. Sticking with Apple news, we discuss how often people seem to be dropping the the iPhone 6, how easily the iPhone 6 slides out of pockets, and how easily the iPhone can get bent while inside pockets. We are recommending that folks get cases for the iPhone 6 which actually protect the device when dropped. We've already heard that the Apple Watch will start at $349 on the low end, but, are hearing rumors that the top end device could cost $1000 or more. Robb and Rod kind of question if the iPhone at the low end will be a thing, but, are almost certain that it won't be at the high end. BlackBerry is launching a new device, Robb and Chris are hooked on Destiny, and Chris is waiting for Ego to put out a battery powered snow blower. We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #226 of the SMRpodcast.   Show Details Recorded: September 23rd, 2014 Published: September 24th, 2014 Duration: 01hr 53min 00sec SUBSCRIBE FOR AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS Standard RSS DONATE TO THE SHOW Please consider donating to the show, head over to our Patreon Page for more details.  SMRPodcast #225: Chicken Wings And Beer Part 25 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:04:00

SMRpodcast Episode #225 has been recorded and is online.  It's just Robb and Chris this week so we hit you with another edition of Chicken Wings and Beer. We start the show off with the epic saga of "splintering the cord" and getting his Tivo set up.  The stars were just not in aliment with Chris' desire to get rid of Direct TV. We also talk about the self inflicted public relations nightmare that the NFL front office is undergoing with it's complete and utter fumbling (pun intended) of it's credibility in dealing with Ray Rice and other domestic violence cases with players. Robb thinks that Apple Pay will actually "bring up with the tide" other mobile payment options, Apple bungled the launch of the iPhone 6 unlike anything we've seen them bungle in recent memory, Sparks Steakhouse sues Yelp to find out identity of reviewer leaving trollish reviews.  We've got all this, our picks, and more, in episode #225 of the SMRpodcast.   Show Details Recorded: September 03rd, 2014 Published: August 04th, 2014 Duration: 01hr 56min 00sec SUBSCRIBE FOR AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS Standard RSS DONATE TO THE SHOW Please consider donating to the show, head over to our Patreon Page for more details.  SMRPodcast #224: Bad Influences | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:04:00

SMRpodcast episode #224 is online and ready for download.  This week the crew is joined by Terrance Gaines, a.k.a., BrothaTech from BrothaTech.com, and, a self proclaimed Apple zealot, Allison Sheridan from the Nosillacast Podcast. Apple held its September 9th press/media event where, as expected, the company announced the new iPhone 6, a 5.5" iPhone 6 Plus, and the all new Apple Watch.  We spend a lot of time going through each of the products and giving your our takes. In non-Apple related news, the Amazon Fire Phone is officially a flop, Microsoft is re-branding Bing back to MSN, Destiny will probably be the game of the year, and, Chris has decided to cut the cord, getting rid of Direct TV.  We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #224 of the SMRpodcast.   Show Details Recorded: September 09th, 2014 Published: September 10th, 2014 Duration: 01hr 53min 00sec SUBSCRIBE FOR AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS Standard RSS DONATE TO THE SHOW Please consider donating to the show, head over to our Patreon Page for more details.  SMRPodcast #223: Chicken Wings And Beer Part 24 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:56:00

SMRpodcast episode #223 is online and ready to download. It's just a two man show this week, so, Chris and Robb hit you with another edition of Chicken Wings and Beer. The big news over the last week had to be Apple and the security breach of several high profile celebrities iCould accounts. Apple has stated that the issue was not a security breach, but, a very targeted attack on specific users usernames and passwords. I guess, technically, there was no breach, but, that is probably because Apples security policy was so lax (did not lock out accounts after multiple failed attempts) that hackers didn't really have to hack so much as just guess passwords repeatedly. Robb got his hands on a and over-the-air HDTV DVR called the Tablo and put it though the paces in his effort to figure out exactly what one needs to cut the cord. He gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars and thinks that Nuvyyo, the company behind the Tablo, needs to add in an HDMI port so the device can be plugged directly into a television. Samsung is holding a media event on September 3rd where it is expected that the Galaxy Note 4 will be unveiled. Robb and Chris both ponder what Samsung can do to generate a lot of buzz around phones before the next version of Android comes out and neither of them are feeling smart watches, of which Samsung is sure to have several. Microsoft removes file size restrictions from One Drive, Robb is going to pit the Note 4 against the 5.5" iPhone 6 (if it exists), Robb and Chris are both big fans of Falling Skys, and Home Depot may have been hacked over the weekend. We've got all this, our picks, and, more in episode #223 of the SMRpodcast.  SMRPodcast #222: You Just Need One Reason | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:51:00

SMRpodcast episode #222 is online and ready for download.  We have a full crew for the second week in row and Chris, Robb, and Rod jump right into it. Time Warner Cable had a massive nationwide internet outage on Wednesday that affected more than 11 million residential and business customers.  If there is a problem with the internet, chances are Robb will be affected by it, and this time was no exception. Facebook is going to start displaying less "click bait" which takes it's users outside of Facebook's walled garden.  Everyone agrees that a less crappy feed is better for users and for Facebook, but, Robb and Rod debate how much work users are willing, or, not willing to put into making their feeds better. The Coolest cooler has displaced the Pebble smart watch as the must successful Kickstarter ever, with over 50,000 backers and more that $10 million raised.  Let's just say that there are differences in opinion on how good of an idea the Coolest is, or, isn't'. WhatsApp Messenger crosses the 600 million monthly active user mark, a Windows 9 preview is coming out soon,  Apple is coming out with a 12.9 inch iPad, and NC State students invent nail polish that detects drugs.  We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #222 of the SMRpodcast.  SMRPodcast #221: It’s Wonderful | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:53:00

SMRpodcast episode #221 is online and ready for download. We've got a full cast this week as Mr. Rod Simmons is back from 7 straight weeks of being on the road. We start this week off with a story of how Chris Ashley is somewhat antisocial, while, at the same time, willing to go out of his way to help just about anyone out at any time. Robb is quite perturbed at the way the media is spinning Facebook Messenger permissions as a full assault on user privacy.  The mobile Facebook app has needed many of the same permissions which are required for the features in Facebook Messenger for years. Android and iOS increase their smartphone market share while Windows Phone slips to just 2.5%.  Robb and Chris ponder if there is anything Microsoft can do to get more Windows Phone handsets into consumers hands. Steve Ballmer steps down from Microsoft board, Tesla offers an 8 year,  infinite mile warranty on the drive unit, and, Sprint offers $100 shared Family plans for up to 10 users with 20GB of data for $100 per month.  We've got all this, our picks, and more in episode #221 of the SMRpodcast. We also talk a bit about some of the moves that Amazon is making in the way a marketplace for local businesses and a payment system that can take on the likes players like Google Wallet, Amazon, and Square.  SMRPodcast #211: Caught a beating | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:14:00

SMRpodcast Episode #210 is online and ready for download. This week finds the show at half-staff however, still full of entertainment and tech talk with Brent and Chris. We start the show recapping all the fallout from the many Surface conversations we were engaged in after last week’s announcements. We also had to mention a very interesting tidbit that Paul Thurrott picked up on where it would appear Microsoft is attempting to make a new market. Unfortunately there were some unfortunate news events this week with two companies and hacking issues. We discuss the story of a few iPhone users that are having their phones hijacked and are now being forced to pay to unlock them. Also on the topic, Spotify had a weird hacking issue which is requiring Android users to reset their passwords. Finally, we had to discuss Apple’s possible entry into the home automation field which surprisingly has Chris excited. And a little different twist on today’s show has us talking about a pretty cool story where a paralyzed teen will be kicking the first ball to pen the World Cup. This is made possible via an exoskeleton connected to the brain.
