Episode-2281- James Burnette on Tiny Houses for Survival | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetJames Burnette of SuvivalPunk.com James Burnette is the founder of Survival Punk.  He has stated that Survivalpunk has become the most important thing in his life and the biggest achievement in his life so far. It has brought him more happiness, more friends, and more fulfillment in my life. James takes a rational, creative approach to self-reliance, applying a punk DIY ethic to survivalism without any of the fear mongering or “tinfoil hattery” found in some other areas of the survivalist movement.  His site and podcast were inspired strait out of the TSP community.  He even previously visited me at my old homestead in Arkansas. James joins us today to discuss tiny houses from a survival/prepper angle.  He will discuss how he built his own tiny house and why he chose to do so.  We will talk about how it fits modern survival living and how to do it with a family.  Along with moving one that isn’t on wheels, what did and didn’t work and why you shouldn’t listen to anyone that says is can be done stupid cheap.  Episode-2280- Show Plans and Homestead Updates for End of Summer 2018 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet We are hitting that point in the year when it is still summer but the pending change is in the air.  It is still hot out but the mornings and evenings start to be a lot more enjoyable.  The breeze seems a bit different and we all know that while it still seems the height of summer this is the reality, as of today… Sept. 22 the fall equinox is only 25 days away Halloween is only 64 days away The TSP Fall Workshop will begin on Nov. 7th only 72 days away Thanksgiving will be on Nov. 22 only 87 days away And the big holiday of Christmas is now only 120 days away To put that all in preservative it has been 247 days since last Christmas.  And you know how it goes, as we enter fall and all the special things that come with it time seems to speed up and next thing you know it is all over and the depth of winter are here.  It is a great time (Fall-Winter) to get things done and they often need doing by spring, or you end up behind for the entire year.  Ask me how I know. As I always say, “TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK – THE CLOCK TICKS FOR US ALL” can you hear it ticking for you? So this is a great time of year to start lining out plans to get things done during the downtime of winter and get them started in fall so they actually happen.  Today I am going to discuss things we are planning for both the business and our homestead heading into my favorite time of the year. Join Me Today to Hear About… Why we are doing “ItsAJackLife” on instagram and new things coming to it Spirko’s laws of life Fun stuff with the dogs and kids Chronicling my work with other animals (fish, reptiles, vivariums, etc) The TSP Fall Workshop is going to be the most amazing one ever Some exclusive SWAG, some given away, others for purchase Friday is going to be a day long celebration of amazing food and drink Cole Risner will play live music on Thursday evening A better, badder, bigger and more interesting barter blanket than ever Tons of learning but tons of social time Why ducks are returning to Nine Mile Farm and what will be different this time Less work A single breed (Rouens) Trained to avoid certain areas As a homestead vs. commercial livestock component A smaller, simpler, sprouting system After a major stall the new 300 gallon aquaponics system is getting up a head of steam The aviary in 2019 Quail only Peppers and sweet potatoes Misting system to be installed The big timber frame pond is a go 16 x 16 feet About 5,000 gallons No real aquaponics elements Fish production, beauty and aquatic plants What are your plans for Fall-Winter 18-19 Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Bullhead Fishing Forum – A new little site I started Binance.com Biltong for Breakfast Beware the Darkness on SongFacts Beware the Darkness – George Harrison Sponsors of the Day The Berkey Guy Knife Kits Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-86- TSP Rewind – You Might Be an Anarchist If | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-1874- You Might Be an Anarchist If and was originally published on September 20, 2016. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Despite this phraseology today’s show isn’t a play on Jeff Foxworthy’s you might be a red neck if. Today we won’t be either poking fun at anarchists or talking about the things they do and say, as such. Rather we are going to talk about the core of anarchism and reveal to many who thing anarchism is radical, dangerous, won’t work, etc, that they in fact are at their core already anarchists. How is this possible? Well anarchism isn’t a way you vote like democrat, republican or even libertarian, it is a philosophy of morality at its core. It actually comes down to core beliefs of right and wrong. Such at taking the legitimate property of another is wrong. Using force or coercion is wrong, period. It is a belief that you own yourself, and an acknowledgement that others also own themselves. My hope is this show will reach many that are currently closed minded to anarchism. Those who think “that can’t work” or “its never been done”, because frankly it has, you can read about it here. Beyond that though, humans have been on this planet for a long time. The oldest human tools date to about 2.4 million years ago and were found in a cave in China. Even if we shrunk that down to say 200,000 years, the state as a form of control is only about 5000 years old and it wasn’t everywhere at once. Franky humans have lived as anarchists far longer as a species than we have lived as statists. Join Me Today to Discuss… Why you might be an anarchist and not know it The core beliefs of anarchists Theft is wrong no matter who does it Force is wrong unless it is used in defense People own themselves No person should be forced to participate in anything they don’t want to be part of The pragmatism of the modern anarchist It isn’t going to happen today or next week, or next decade The way you live is what you control Only a goal of no state can ever shrink the state Voluntary associations can exist now, so lets do that If you can solve a problem without the state, do so Technology is our greatest tool for human evolution How becoming an anarchist by choice changes your world view Might no longer makes right War becomes an absolute last resort You stop focusing on things outside of your control You find an “inner peace” not too dissimilar from some religions Your obligations increase they do not decrease You become a systems thinker and solutions oriented Final Thoughts Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1874 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com – Support TSP When You Shop on Amazon GrandaddysGun.Com Green Fields of France – Drop Kick Murphys Sponsors of the Day Safecastle Royal The Berkey Guy Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2276- Back Yard Aquaculture for Beauty and Food Production | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetBack Yard Protein that Looks After Itself So we have been updating our new instagram project and have changed the channel name to @itsajacklife to make it more clear that most posts are by Dorothy about my life vs. by me.  And this AM she took this photo of me at teh Miyagi pond and captioned it, Enjoying the Miyagi. It’s Tuesday morning time for a stand alone show. Jack has no idea what he will talk about today says the fish will tell him. She was right and the fish said, “hey dummy talk about us”, so today that is what we are going to discuss.  While prior shows focused mostly on aquaponics and mentioned doing it as pure aquaculture, today we are going to focus on that side alone.  A few aquaponic components may be mentioned today but we are going to stick really to back yard ponds. Few things on my property give me more enjoyment than my various garden ponds.  There is something peaceful about moving water and fish.  The bonus is if we want fish tacos tonight and didn’t take any out of the freezer, with 4 bread balls and 5 minutes I can have us 4 nice pan fish for cooking. Aquaculture is function stacking in the best way.  You get a beautiful piece of landscaping, wildlife habitat and free food as a bonus. Join Me Today to Discuss… Why bother with aquaculture in the first place The benefits Beauty and relaxation Simplicity – compared to aquaponics Protein production – no guilt at harvest time Low maintenance – you could automate almost everything Vegetable production even without aquaponics The types of ponds to consider Gunnite or concrete in ground EDPM in ground Fabricated stock tanks or ponds Framed lined ponds – can be above ground or partly in ground Swimming pool conversions Fish for your pond Start with goldfish or koi, grow them out until they won’t get killed Pan fish are really the best (perch, brim, bluegill, “perch”) Catfish (bullhead and channels) Bass and other predators are best in large ponds, really large Feeding your fish Commercial fish feed – better than you think Minnows – grow your own Black Solider Fly Larva Duck Weed and Salvania Insects – a few ideas Dealing with winter Get in the ground, the deeper the better Insulate framed systems with soil Consider solar heat – (some thoughts on making it work on air) Wrap pipes and use heat tape Use local fish Stock tank heaters Getting your fish Hook and line Traps and nets Buying them Breeding them Final Thoughts Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Bullhead Fishing Forum – A new little site I started Binance.com Biltong for Breakfast Its A Jack Life on Instagram Pond Liner and Volume Calculator I Use – also where I buy liners If I Can Dream – Elvis Presley Sponsors of the Day Ridge Wallet Butcher Box Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2273- John Pugliano and Jack Spirko on The Richest Man in Babylon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet I reached out to expert council member John Pugliano about doing this episode with me.  I feel the biggest weakness in what our young people are not taught today, above all other things how to handle, earn, manage and invest money.   While not the end all be all, I find The Richest Man in Babylon to be one of the best foundations on how to think about money ever written.  John and I break this classic down today using the following outline of some of the main concepts presented in the book. There are also some surprises in today’s show, a phone call from Patrick Roehrman, the arrival of Nick Ferguson and more.  John and I did this recording at my kitchen table while he was visiting for the 10 Year Anniversary Party.  Lots of other TSP folks were on the way in, so rather than edit out the disruptions we rolled with them.  It makes for a fun show. SUMMARY: Richest Man in Babylon 5 Laws of Gold (my version: money flows to where it’s treated best) 1. Gold cometh gladly and in increasing quantity to any man who will put by not less than one-tenth of his earnings to create an estate for his future and that of his family. a. A portion is yours to keep. b. 10%….my recommendation is 20% (in modern times, taxes eat up too much real income) c. SAVE before you start to think about investing. i. You can’t take advantage of Opportunity unless you have resources 1 2. Gold laboreth diligently and contentedly for the wise owner who finds for it profitable employment, multiplying even as the flocks of the field. a. Money likes to “work” and doesn’t complain about being a “slave”….it works without compensation. b. Money has no mind…YOU must find it profitable employment. c. Magic of compounding interest…money multiplies. i. Law of 72 1 3. Gold clingeth to the protection of the cautious owner who invests it under the advice of men wise in its handling. a. Emphasize “protection” & “cautious”. b. Be patient and disciplined….it takes TIME. c. Invest vs Speculate (4th part of my book) d. Seek out wise men…mentors. (take an old guy to lunch) i. Knowledge in a specific field. ii. Ignore ideology or imperfections…avoid Hero Worship e. If times get tough or even if they don’t. i. Plan for prosperity and failure…within your sphere of influence & control. ii. If you have dependents buy term life insurance. 1 4. Gold slippeth away from the man who invests it in businesses or purposes with which he is not familiar or which are not approved by those skilled in its keep. a. You have to fix Stupid before you can fix Broke. b. Don’t take advice from Stupid or Broke people. i. Advanced advice: avoid these people all together. 1 5. Gold flees the man who would force it to impossible earnings or who followeth the alluring advice of tricksters and schemers or who trusts it to his own inexperience and romantic desires in investment. a. Reality: lots of people are trying to screw you. b. You’re NOT that smart. c. Diversify because you’re going to have LOTS of failures. Work – The Generator of Weath 1. Wealth comes from work. 2. First learn to work, then learn to have others work for you. a. Start with what you know, where you are. b. Story of Baker looking to buy a slave. i. You can buy your own freedom. ii. Work to acquire experience. 3. Money is your ultimate slave. a. The Boss/Owner has money, the Employee is broke. Debt – The Enslaver of the Fool 1. Magic of Compounding Interest working against you. 2. Debt is SLAVERY…period.  Episode-2272- Darby Simpson on Farm Business Essentials | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetDarby grew up on his family’s seventh generation farm located in Central Indiana, just 25 miles outside of Indianapolis. However he never learned anything about the family business. He began his own farming enterprise in 2007 after reading “Pastured Poultry Profits” by Joel Salatin as well as several other sources of information pertaining to small scale pasture based meat production. The operation produced 150 pastured broilers that first year that were quickly sold and generated a base of avid customers who were left clamoring for more. In 2008, the enterprise grew to 1,000 birds while pastured pork was also added, with the hogs all being spoken for thru successful marketing to the existing customer base. By 2012, the farm was producing up to 3,000 pastured broilers, 125 turkeys, 60 hogs and 12 beef per year while using less than 20 total acres. The farm now financially supports Darby and his wife Brandy, along with their two young boys, Ethan and Zach. Darby has transitioned himself from a successful mechanical engineer into a full time farmer and enjoys the many benefits that come with being self sufficient in ones livelihood. His success shows it is possible to build a business from scratch with little or no knowledge of what Joel Salatin affectionately calls “lunatic farming”. Today, Darby spends his “extra” time teaching others how to pursue a rewarding and financially viable career in farming. His new project, along with business partner Diego Footer, is an A-Z online course for profitable farming called “Farm Business Essentials” (www.farmbusinessessentials.com).   The course covers everything from how to raise livestock, to marketing, business planning, contextual goals, infrastructure, equipment and more.  Episode-2271- The Most Valuable Skill Most People Are Never Taught | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet That skill in three words is simply, “how to sell”, simply put, “sales is life and life is sales”.  One huge problem we have in life is people compartmentalize everything.  I.E. “Sales is something sales people do, and I am not a sales person, so I don’t need to worry about it.” My one word response to this is………BULLSHIT. Have you ever asked anyone out on a date?  Did you ever interview to get into a school?  Did you ever try out for a team?  Have you ever interviewed for a job?  Did you as a child ever convince your parents to buy you a toy? Well, sales, sales, sales and sales are what the above items are. The single most valuable thing I can teach you about sales is what I call an absolute definition of it.  An absolute definition means a simple statement that requires no further explanation and works all the time, every time.  My absolute definition of sales is “a transfer of belief” and lets put it to test with the above questions. Getting a date – you transfer the belief that I am worth spending time with. ~ Getting into school – you transfer the belief that I will be a good student. ~ Getting on a team – you transfer the belief that I will be a good player. ~ Getting a job – you transfer the belief that I will be a good employee. ~ Getting a child’s toy – you transfer the belief that the toy is worth buying for some reason. Do you see how simple that really is?  The truth is all of use are natural born sales people, we have something I started calling an “inner salesman” a long time ago.  Sadly for most of us, it is literally beaten out of us by the time we most need it.  Today I am going to put you back in touch with your old friend and tell you how he/she can help you build a better life. Join Me Today to Discuss… Why we are all born knowing how to sell How this basic human ability is suppressed and beaten out of us Why this is the number one reason I say people “hate money” Why everyone needs to ABC (always be celling) all the time Understand that every time you engage in a debate you are selling The most basic of all sales formulas and how it works – the C.A.S.H. method Create at problem Agitate the problem Solve the problem/problems Help the prospect obtain the solution Don’t be afraid to let them do all the work for you The best way to get to a yes is to make it easy to say no Never leave money (aka opportunity) on the table Promise only what you can deliver Close all the loops yourself Ask for what you want, then shut up My keys to success Spend 80% of your time on the best prospects Spend 20% of your time finding more prospects Take as little of the prospects time as you can Tell your prospect why you chose them Be direct about why you are contacting them Make it clear (nicely) that you don’t need them Know your cycle and stick to it It is all back to transfer of belief, and you can’t transfer what you don’t have Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Bullhead Fishing Forum – A new little site I started Binance.com Biltong for Breakfast On this Day in 1935 FDR Signs the Social Security Act Do Anything You Want to Do – Eddie and the Hotrods Sponsors of the Day Ready Made Resources Knife Kits Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
