Episode-2238- Surf Fishing and Sanibel Island AAR | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetCero Mackerel Was New Fish for Me on this Trip. For Dorothy the beach is a place to walk, pick up shells and sit around and do nothing. While I enjoy much of that, especially with a Jimmy Buffet approved drink in hand, I also love to fish the shore. There is an excitement about surf fishing that to me just doesn’t exist in a lake or a river. Do a bit of research on any lake or river (fresh water river) and likely there are 6-12 fish if that which are commonly caught on rod and reel. One of several Snook caught on my recent trip. When you look at fish you are likely to catch the number is likely to be closer to 3-4 than 12.  And frequently to catch any real variety you will have to employ a variety of techniques, baits, depths, approaches to catch any significant number of fish species. Now fishing with mostly life shrimp and one method, these are the species I caught over 9 days on the Sanibel island coast… Cero Mackerel Spanish Mackerel Snook Ladyfish Whiting Hard Head Catfish Jack Crevalle Blue Runner Speckled Sea Trout That is 9 species and I am leaving out some of the little odd bait fish stuff that also managed to get hooked like Pig and Pin fish. With that I’d be over a dozen. I also took a guided fishing trip and focused on big fish.  While we didn’t get any real monsters and gave up catching a lot of little stuff to target something bigger, I did get to cross an item off my bucket list.   That was a Goliath Grouper in the 50 pound range. A 50ish Pound Goliath Grouper Caught about a Mile off the Beach I also caught a black tip shark in the 20 pound range on the same trip.  On top of this I got to see a small shark cut a nice Jack in half with a single bite, allowing me to reel in the head, which we then used to catch the grouper. A Nice Blacktip Taken in Pine Island Sound on the Bay Side of Sanibel Island Now I have had some good days/weeks on lakes and rivers but nothing like this! I have fished the Texas coast many times and while not quite the diversity of Florida’s coast it is also a great deal of fun. I have often caught red fish, sea trout, whiting, sand trout, croaker, sail cats, hard heads and a lot of other stuff in a single trip. I have also managed to catch a few small black tip sharks down there. I even remember one day when the surf was really clear and I was standing about waste deep on the second sand bar and several of us watched a bull shark that was at least 8 feet cruise by just 10 yards in front of us, while we all backed slowly onto the bars shallower area, no one panicked and the fishing continued.  This is why I love surf fishing, you never know what you might catch or what might happen. Join Me Today To Discuss… My basic gear, not much different from lake fishing Medium action spinning rod Snap swivels 10-14 pound premium mono Bait casting sinkers Bait holder hooks #2 – #4/0 generally snelled Circle hooks #2-2/0 also snelled with floro carbon Cut bait (shrimp, cut whiting, squid, etc) Live shrimp Stepping gear up for bigger fish Medium Heavy to Heavy Action rod and reel Braided line is almost a must have Steel leaders – not without problems! Large circle or khale hooks Simply put, bigger bait Don’t buy rod holders they are too cheap and easy to make Paddle boards, surf boards, etc. – not necessary but functional Thoughts on the Sand Blaster type technology Taking a multi day trip and including a guided boat trip The basics of surf fishing – easy as it gets Guts and bars are your friend, if they are there Tides, incoming is best but it is not that simple Understanding tides and tide charts Surf reports, calm water equals better fishing In summer cool calm mornings trump tides, in fact they seem to trump everything Seasonality – what is there and when Piers – sometimes the only valid option but crowded When wading shuffle – sting rays!  Episode-83- TSP Rewind – Bugging In vs. Bugging Out – Answering with Logic | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally,  Episode-502- Bugging In vs. Bugging Out – Answering with Logic and was first published on Sept. 1st 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Do I stay or do I go!  Not just a great old song by The Clash but an ongoing debate and topic of discussion everywhere preparedness is discussed.  Some are sure they will bug out, they have a plan to live off the land (good luck with that) and others just know they are going to guard the fort and hunker down.   The reality is this is one of those issues that is very situationally dependent.  The same person (if they act with reason and logic) will choose different answers.  To help me formalize this process I developed 12 questions to ask yourself both in advance of and during a disaster to make this decision with logic vs. emotion. Tune in today as we consider the following… Logic vs. emotion Which choice gives you the best chance of survival for the scenario at hand? (this is not always clear) How well prepared are you to bug in? What exactly are you prepared for? (a forest fire is far different from local rioting) Have evacuation orders been given? What is the nature and probable duration of the threat? Well staying put change anything as far as “saving your home”? Where will you go and how will you get there? Do you own a bug out location or have double up plans or no place to go at all? Will you be able to help your community if you stay? What will the impact of staying or going be on your family, can they handle what you can? What can you take with you and what must you leave behind? If you leave what exactly is waiting for you at your destination? The time to answer these questions is not in the middle of a disaster but right now.  At this point you can plan, form contingencies and be prepared for a variety of outcomes. That way if the day comes your mind is ready to act and you can make the best use of the resources you have.  As always how you act and how you think is more important then your resources.

 Episode-82-TSP Rewind – Urban and Suburban Homesteading | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally,  Episode-494- Urban and Suburban Homesteading and was first published on Aug. 17th, 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Here are two things I know about my audience.  The majority, over 70% live in urban and suburban areas.    The second is that a major majority of those would like to get out of the city some day even if the shit never hits the fan.  There is also the reality that many at least for the short term are held by job, family obligations and other factors.  So I thought today would be a good day to discuss urban homesteading and tomorrow we can discuss urban prepping. Join me today as we discuss… What exactly makes a home a homestead anyway Why homesteading on some level makes sense for everyone Start out by assessing what you have Sketching your land and determining energy flows Gardening is hard work and may not be for you large scale Perennials take more time but pay far larger rewards Drip irrigation and automated watering systems Small live stock – Chickens, Rabbits and Ducks Considering – Hydro and Aquaponics The Greenhouse is your Friend Think about property value increasing activities Understand your advantages Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-81- TSP Rewind – Putting Your House Hold in Order | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally,  Episode-457- Putting Your House Hold in Order and was first published on June 17th, 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Today I though I would give sort of a mile high view of taking your home from grass hopper fields of green to organized ant hill.  Or if you are on the journey already from disorganized ant hill to  organized ant fortification.   Getting prepared seems tough, it seems beyond reach and on some levels it is.   One can never be fully prepared for everything but getting to well prepared for most things is doable in steps. Join me today as we discuss… Another look at the old story, The Grasshopper and the Ant Taking an inventory Journaling items used on a regular basis Committing to copy canning Develop a black out kit Install emergency lighting Set up some sort or back up power Develop a documentation package Set up at least 2 weeks to 1 month of long term storables Install a back flow preventer on your water heater Store at least 25 gallons of water, more is better Journal your spending – EVERY PENNY Form a debt elimination plan and DO IT Define your lifestyle vision and WORK ON IT Create a get out – get home plan Own and know how to use a grill Teach yourself at least 2 food preservation methods Visit farmers markets Talk to your neighbors Believe you can get it done, because you can Focus on the results, not the battle Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-80- TSP Rewind – What Debt Freedom Means | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-438- What Debt Freedom Means and was first published on May 19th 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Yesterday I made my second large purchase of the year, a 2005 F-350 Diesel Super Duty I got for 30% under its Kelly Blue Book Value, I paid cash.  Earlier this year I bought a new RV (a Shamrock 21ss) I also paid cash.  I almost feel guilty about this but it got me thinking, 8 years ago my wife and I sate down face in hands looking at over 25K in credit card debt, medical bills (which grew before they shrank) and more. We thought “how did we let this happen”, we thought about just letting things keep going and paying a “little bit more” on a few debts.  Our income was great, our house payment was low, it would all be okay, a meeting with a “financial liar” confirmed it wold be fine.  The liar even suggested we take out some home equity since we had so much if we were worried about low cash reserves. In my head the wisdom of my grandmother screamed out over the words of this clown who had the arrogance to claim he understood money.  My wife and I began a journey, one many of you have followed as well.  I have discussed he journey and the how and why behind it, yet until today I have never discussed the freedom that lies on the other side. In January I walked away from a six figure salary to do TSP full time.  It was a hard choice but we had paid all debt by that point and began saving money heavily.  We jumped from stocks before the crash and had not taken the hit.  Something totally unexpected occurred though, despite a massive reduction in my income, we actually seem to now have more money. I have started to really understand why this is the case and a lot of your “post debt” emails took on a new meaning for me as of yesterday.  So today while I will talk a bit about debt, I am going to talk far more about what completing the journey will mean.  If you are going fight a difficult battle you need to realize what victory will mean.

Episode-79- TSP Rewind – Dealing With Violent Confrontations | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-416- Dealing With Violent Confrontations and was first published on April 14th, 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. After spending a week with Val Riazanov on systema and Russian martial arts and filming the new DVD series I thought it might be a good day to do a show on dealing with potentially violent confrontations. Join me today as we discuss… Real violence vs. movie violence The morals of the criminal, he has none Professional = death when it comes to killing The first rule is avoiding the confrontation If you can’t avoid it focus on deescalation If deescalation fails at times controlled retreat is the best option You should always appear relaxed and “harmless” When you do strike it must be with sufficient force for the situation Pressure points are useless in full speed combat, anatomy points are critical The “systema strike” – misunderstood and highly effective Dealing with an armed opponent takes things to another level The knife is the oldest consistently deadly weapon for a reason In dealing with an opponent with a gun 1.5-2 meters is “critical distance” Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-78- TSP Rewind The Cancer and Slavery of Debt | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally,  Episode-369- The Cancer and Slavery of Debt and was first published on Feb. 22nd, 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Today we back up and take a deeper look at the topic of debt and how it both destroys lives in good times and bad.  Debt is a cancer that is destroying America.  We have been sold a false dream, a false dream that robs the true dream of America’s legacy of freedom. Join me today as we discuss… The basic rules of survival The false dream of debt vs the real dream that is America Why debt really is cancer and why it will make you act in fear How debt leads to bigger government Why financial management and debt elimination cannot be separated from survivalism The cost of debt must be measured in time, not dollars for the horror to become evident The only way to eliminate debt Why people in debt out spend people who are debt free Why you must at least start eliminating debt if you want to be a modern survivalist The main way to be a survivor is to reduce dependence Inflation punishes savers, save anyway We are forced into risk, debt makes that worse The solution is in your hands Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon. Also please enter our listener appreciation contest and help spread the word about our show. Also remember you can call in your questions and comments to 866-65-THINK and you might hear yourself on the air.

Episode-77- TSP Rewind – The Missed Lessons of Major Disasters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally,  Episode-366- The Missed Lessons of Major Disasters and was first published on January 28th, 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. It seems there is always a disaster somewhere in the world.  Right now eyes are on Haiti, over the last two decades we have had many.  The LA Riots, The California Quake, Hurricanes Andrew, Ike, Rita and of course Katrina.  Lesser publicized weather events like the Ft. Worth and Arlington Tornado (which we lived through), the Mississippi floods of the 90s, Tropical Storm Fay in Jacksonville and more. Each time we hear how we have “learned” from the event and will do better next time, yet a lot of what we learn misses many of the real lessons.  This will be the subject of today’s podcast. Join me today as we discuss… More first responders per individual Biggest shortages are food, water and shelter Law and order will break down Law abiding citizens often become targets of law enforcement The media loves hardship, blame and is never part of the solution The size and scope of large disasters has actually be quite small Government and your fellow man will help but you may still be on your own Redundancy in your preparations is critical The disaster is not the biggest danger, the aftermath is The cause is less important then the removal of systems of support Money can become worthless, beer can be a currency Free societies are vulnerable What happens elsewhere can and very well may effect you It can happen where you live It is up to you, no matter the intentions of others Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2235- Total Freedom Though Honest Personal Branding | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet I don’t talk about it much but I am told oh 20 times a month on average things like, I am doing it wrong (as in this show) Someone is going to contact my sponsors to tell them I am offensive If I continue to do things this way it will be “the end of TSP” I need to think like Reagan and build a “bigger tent” Get this one, “I have a public responsibility to make TSP more listener friendly” Oh and it just goes on and on and on and on The real irony is when some dip shit gets offended, tells me off and I tell them to go screw and they say something like, “wow what happened to you, this isn’t like you”.  I am very tempted to ask these people what the hell they are smoking and could I please have some. Take a look at our disclaimers and policies page, the current version of this page was published on 1-1-11, hey I like numeric patterns.  One of the most recent pathetic mental breakdowns was from Episode 2223, where I used the “F word” about a dozen or so times to drive home the point about how schools are creating these school shootings and the fact that 5,000 youths a year kill themselves and over 30,000 attempt suicide.  Now pardon my view but if there was ever a place for the F word, that is it! That said I generally don’t use that word on the air, so when I did I did the following… Marked the episode explicit Announced on air that it was coming and to skip ahead if you didn’t want to hear it Now keep in mind in my disclaimers it says among other things, the following and has since January of 2011, which is seven years ago! “We believe in freedom here, if you choose to listen to our show you do so as a free human being on planet earth and therefore we are not responsible for any “mental anguish”, “mental trauma”, “feeling of being offended” or any other emotional problems that you get from doing so.” I have to say that is about as honest and clear cut as it can be!  The beauty though of always being yourself is when such assclowns attempt to harm you, all they can really do is build you up, and that is the magic of building honest personal brand.  The key word there is honest!  Anyway since I am going to be gone until the 25th on vacation after today I thought may be we could have a fun show and one that can change your life if you choose to act on it. Join In Today to Hear… The two recent incidents that inspired today’s show The reason I even use “vulgar words” on the air I am not saying to be like me, or anyone else Understanding what a niche is today vs. in say 1990 Why the last thing on want today is a “bigger tent” The 1,000 true fans model is for everyone The difference between true fans and “fanboys” The harsh reality, time not money is the most valuable online commidity Here is everything you really need to know about business There are only two types of products Needed Wanted All products are one of three things for customers Entertaining Profit Yielding Life Changing When you have all three it is the Golden Trifecta Everything you need to know about marketing in two phrases Marketing is telling your story Effective marketing is getting other to tell your story Everything you need to know about sales Make it easy to buy from you You are selling more than products and services You are always selling, whether you think so or not In the end, there has never been a better time or one with more opportunity than today Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 139 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Bullhead Fishing Forum – A new little site I started Unhappy Customers Make Him Happy and Rich – NY Times Article about John Willis High Hopes – Song Facts High Hopes – Pink Floyd Sponsors of the Day Ridge Wallet Butcher Box Remember to comment, chime in and tell us y[...]
