Guests: Daniel Lee and Mary Beth Fielder from LA chapter of Move to Amend. Daniel and Mary Beth will discuss how they organized to get the Los Angeles City Council to pass a resolution "calling on Congress to amend the Constitution to clearly establish that only living persons -- not corporations -- are endowed with constitutional rights and that money is not the same as free speech." The historic vote makes Los Angeles the first major city in the U.S. to call for an end to all corporate constitutional rights. David Cobb, spokesperson of the Move to Amend national coalition will be joining us during the hour. Hosted by Annabel Park. Will Rice and Annabel Park interview economist Dean Baker co-director of the Center for Economic Policy Research about the financial transaction tax popularly referred to as the Robin Hood tax. He has been advocating for this tiny tax on Wall Street transactions for years and it is now finally gaining support and momentum around the world. The Coffee Party supports the financial transaction tax and has featured it in its position paper. In this hour, as part of the Citizens Intervention Series, we hope to not only learn more about it, but discuss what we can do to win.  

Annabel interviews Shahid Buttar of Bill of Rights Defense Committee (BORDC) about the controversial National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Last week Congress passed this law that declares the United States a battlefield and allows the indefinite military detention of US citizens without trial. According to BORDC, "It contains the most oppressive national security powers we’ve seen in our lifetimes, easily worse than any Bush administration policy." We'll talk to Shahid about the implications of NDAA and the BORDC's petition about it.

Annabel will talk to Josh Silver, CEO of United Republic and cofounder and former CEO of Free Press. We will discuss the strategic vision behind United Republic, "a new organization fighting the corrupting influence of well-financed special interests over American politics and government." It recently merged with Larry Lessig's Rootstrikers with Dylan Ratigan's Get Money Out campaign. The Citizens Intervention series will focus on discussions about our political and financial crisis with a focus on considering effective political tactics for political change.

Annabel will talk to Linda Killian, scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center, journalist and author of upcoming book Swing Vote, about the failure of the supercommittee, what comes next, and ideas about how citizens can be involved. Check out her Atlantic column about the supercommittee. The Citizens Intervention series will focus on discussions about our political and financial crisis with a focus on considering effective political tactics for political change. Swing Vote will be out in January and it features the Coffee Party.
