The British Universities GAA (BU GAA) regional circuit is nearing a close and last weekend saw important games take place in both men’s and ladies Gaelic football. In men’s football we had a Division 2 Final in the Midlands, two semi finals in Men’s Division 1 in Scotland as well as the final round of games in the Ladies top section with Dundee at home proving very tough opposition. Last weekend Cuchulain’s Football Club capped off a fine year when they added the London GAA Division 2 title to their Junior Championship and McCardle Cup wins this season. It was the meeting of champions in the Division 2 Football decider at Greenford on Saturday last as Cuchulain’s, who claimed this year’s junior crown, were taking on the 2011 junior victors St. Josephs. London GAA PRO Declan Flanagan talks about the match, the Division 2 Hurling semis and a tasty Ryan Cup Hurling Final featuring the London senior champions and the runners-up. 13:02

Friday last at the Bahrain Rugby Club turned out to be a momentous day for Abu Dhabi GAA as the club took home top honors in the latest round of the 2012/2013 Mid East GAA League. Back in October saw the first round of the Middle East GAA League in Dubai with shared victory in football in the Mens A Cup for Dubai and Qatar while it was Sharjah in the UAE who won the Ladies A Cup. But on Friday we had brand new winners all-round in what turned out to be one of the biggest ever Mid East tournaments. In the podcast, Dubai Celts GAA Chairman Paddy Darcy reports. 16:47

As we move to the concluding stages of regional rounds in this year’s British Universities GAA football calendar, last weekend’s results didn’t necessarily go the way of previous weeks as teams that had been struggling are now coming to the fore. In today’s Podcast we check in on the latest GAA news from London. Our last report from London highlighted the end of the championship season but since then focus returned to league competition. In the podcast London GAA PRO Declan Flanagan fills us in on the recent football and hurling Division 1 League finals and looks ahead to this weekend’s intermediate league action. 9:06

A record breaking European Mens & Ladies Gaelic Football Championship took place this weekend in Maastricht, Holland, with the largest number of teams ever gathered for an enthralling final round. Some 30 teams representing 10 countries at the Stichting Sportpark West complex were in action in the Men’s and Ladies Championship as well as Men’s Shield, and new event, the Men’s Plate. The men’s championship came down to the wire between top contenders, last year’s champion’s Guernsey and Belgium A, while in the ladies championship, Holland A were hoping stop Belgium A taking their 5th title in a row. In the men’s shield a mammoth 17 teams took to the field with Malmo in pole position to take the European title. The third and final round of the 2012 European Men’s & Ladies Gaelic Football Championship takes place this weekend in Maastricht Holland, where record team participation and close table standings, promises one of the most exciting European finals ever. Some 500 players from over 30 teams representing 10 countries will be in action at the impressive Stichting Sportpark West complex in Maastricht and with tight races in men’s and ladies football, and the largest number of teams ever for the men’s shield event – including several brand new clubs -  the finals promise an intriguing spectacle this Saturday Nov 10. Here to preview this year’s finals is Europe GAA PRO Brian Clerkin. In the latter part of the podcast we report on the recent inaugural Adige Cup between two new clubs from Italy – Ascaro Rovigo Gaelic Football and Padova Gaelic Football. 20:16

One of the biggest events in the World GAA Calendar took place in Malaysia last weekend when the 17th Asian Gaelic Games got underway at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort in Kuala Lumper. Local GAA club Orange Eire was hosting the annual competition for the very first in what was one of the biggest ever tournaments with almost 900 players and over 55 teams from throughout northern and southern Asia and the Gulf region. In the men’s football championship, holders Hong Kong were looking to regain their title while in the ladies premier event Singapore Lions were looking for a magnificent four in a row. The second last major event in the annual World GAA Calendar takes place this weekend in Asia when the Orange Eire GAA club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, gets set to host the 2012 Asian Gaelic Games. This year’s event is set to surpass all previous records with participation levels of close to 1000 players from 59 teams from throughout the north and south regions of Asia as well as clubs from the Middle East. The two day event starts on Saturday at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort outside Kuala Lumper with competition taking place in all four codes. The second round of this year’s European Gaelic Football Championships took place last weekend in the lovely city of Vienna Austria with much at stake towards the naming of overall champions in men’s and ladies football. After Round 1 in Copenhagen last month, 2011 Men’s Championship winners Guernsey Gaels were leading the way followed by Luxembourg, while in the Ladies, five in row European bidders Belgium A, held top spot but rivals Holland were snapping at their heals in second spot, and in the Men’s Shield competition, Malmo were the form team followed by Copenhagen. This weekend in Ireland saw numerous county finals on offer but there was plenty to look forward to elsewhere, as across the Irish Sea, Tir Chonaill Gaels and Kingdom Kerry Gaels lined out to decide the winners of the 2012 London Senior Football Championship. The Kingdom, last year’s league winners, had been something of a surprise packet in reaching the final yet impressed when putting out holders Fulham Irish in the quarter final. Meanwhile Tir Chonaill, undefeated throughout the championship, were every-bodies favourites to add a 15th title in this their 50th year. Dubai Celts played host to Round 1 of the Middle East GAA League at the Sevens Stadium. As the GAA season comes to a close across northern climes around the world, the middle and southern regions see their year begin in earnest. Last Friday October 5th, saw the start of the Middle East GAA winter season as round one of the 2012/2013 Middle East League got underway at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. In the Podcast we speak with Dubai GAA Chairman and Meath native Paddy Darcy about this year’s competition and the Gaelic Sports scene across the desert regions. 21:37
