IN TIME enrages me while CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE delights my pants off. Literally. Moreno plays catch-up with HESHER and joins me as we get up to date with all our favorite TV shows. Moreno is on his last nerve with 'The Walking Dead' but we both agree 'Sons of Anarchy' is the best thing on the tube right now. Later we get deep with the modern career of Ben Affleck, people that don't like GHOSTBUSTERS (see: Moreno), and the few movies that have surprised us this year, if any.
To celebrate show 150, Johnny Moreno and I have pulled no punches. First up is the great Mickey Rourke telling us about IMMORTALS and then we get Thomas Jane and director, Mark Pellington, to talk about I MELT WITH YOU. It's the most guest-packed extravaganza we've ever hosted. And it's all free! Why am I so excited! Exclamation mark! From there Moreno and I review I MELT WITH YOU, I go at it solo for KILLER ELITE, APOLLO 18, and GUNNIN' FOR THAT #1 SPOT. We've got back-to-back Positively Cynical Corners, a brand new intro mix, and new sounders for New Releases and The TV Round-Up - where we get down and dirty with Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Anarchy, Homeland, and The Walking Dead. It's a lot to absorb. Take your time.
Ray Liotta takes some time out of his awesome existence to chat with the JoBlo Movie Podcast about his new film, SON OF NO ONE, finally getting to work with Al Pacino, and why the film's most important screening at Sundance wound up being it's own worst enemy. Afterwards, Moreno and I review the film, drop a couple Positively Cynical Corners on your ass, fire through a TV round-up, check out all the New Releases, and giggle like little girls for the better part of 2 hours. Did I mention Ray Liotta is on the show? Blows my mind.
Just in time for your Halloween weekend festivities, Moreno and I sat down with the great Eric Walkuski for our annual viewing of HALLOWEEN and just happened to record the results for your pleasure. Come hear our obsession with Carpenter's on set bra ban. Ponder our thoughts that they really killed that dog. Stare at P.J. Soles nipples with us. And finally, come discover the real reasons why Michael Myers is a dick. Hopefully you find some time for one of the greatest horror movies of all time and the three drunk assholes that are watching it.
The great Jimmy O makes his annual Halloween visit to the show so we can all rave about PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3. Before that, I get emotionally destroyed by DEAR ZACHERY and Moreno gets kicked in the balls by CATCHING HELL. We also review the 'Walking Dead' season premiere, talk a little about TRESSPASS before I have to throw up, and decide what films we'd like to bring frivolous lawsuits against. Moreno also checks out PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 and there's the disapointing debut of our new assistant, Siri.
Johnny Moreno and I check out the South park documentary, 6 DAYS TO AIR and scoff at the concept. We put this show together in 6 hours, bitches! From there I scope THE THING prequel and wonder why so little effort was made to separate the film from the '82 classic. Moreno checks out the Pixies documentary, loudQUIETloud and then I tell him about Kevin Spacey's beard in FATHER OF INVENTION. We also start "The Positively cynical Corner" by reviewing John Carpenter's THE THING ( and CAPE FEAR, secretly), answer some random voicemails that lead us to the quality of Gene Hackman's career, awesome TV plots that were dropped, and actually having to stick up for the original HALLOWEEN. Carpenter's all over this mo-fo. New Sounders, cold drinks, and tons of Nick Nolte!
With season two of The Walking Dead almost upon us, Moreno and I try to get into the Halloween spirit by revisiting where season one left us, emotionally, and convince ourselves that THE THING prequel won't suck. Moreno checks out FAT, SICK, AND NEARLY DEAD and makes fun of fat people and then informs us that he was an extra in THE FAMILY MAN, and never thought it was important enough to talk about until now. We take a look at this weekend's box-office numbers, listen to a couple new listener sounders, and experiment with "positive cynicism", a new phrase we hope to copyright while sober.
Johnny Moreno and Jim Law decide to tackle one of their favorite movies of all time and things start out ugly as Amanda Plummer rubs the boys the wrong way. After threatening her with punches to the face, Law listens to Moreno confess his obsession with the film as a young douche. This includes painting a mural on his wall and wearing a bolo tie for his class picture day. We try to figure out what's in the briefcase, what the deal is with The Gimp, and why Kathy Griffin is in this film, as herself. Grab a $5 shake, put your feet up, and join us for one of the best films ever made.
I finally check out HORRIBLE BOSSES and am pleasantly surprised by Jennifer Aniston's dirty talk. Moreno re-visits THE END and falls in love all over again. THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER SOLD interests me and bores me at the some time. We name what films we'd like to see come to our local IMAX theaters, receive a couple new fan sounders which make us lose our shite, and look ahead to REAL STEEL (including a listener review) and other films that don't interest us.
Mike Sampson kicks off the show by calling in live from Fantastic Fest and gives us the lowdown on THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE II and other crap he's seen. I check out CONTAGION and DRIVE which leads Moreno and I into a fascinating conversation about the oddity that is Ron Perlman's head. The painful results of the JoBlo.com Summer Box Office contest, new sounders (including a fan entry!) and the winners of our STAR WARS Blu-ray package! All that and more on your weekly dose of Drunk Idiots Talking.
The great Chris Bumbray checks in once again for his wrap-up of the Toronto International Film Fest and spills more details about the awesomeness of his surroundings. TWIXT, however, doesn't feel the love. He also checks out 50/50, Melancholia, Friends With Kids, Comic-Con: Episode IV-A Fan's Hope, Anonymous, and Trespass amongst many. Johnny Moreno loses his shit over DRIVE and angers me with every word of excitement. The details of how you can win A copy of The Complete STAR WARS SAGA on Blu-ray & a Blu-ray player are hidden within. Come get some!
Director of the very timely documentary, THE PEOPLE VS. GEORGE LUCAS, Alexandre Philippe, joins Johnny Moreno and myself to chat about who raped who's childhood and if the fans will ever get to fall in love with their franchise again. From there, the great Chris Bumbray takes us on a tour of the Toronto International with his thoughts on DRIVE, THE ARTIST, GOD BLESS AMERICA, THE IDES OF MARCH, MONEYBALL, and much more. Due to some technical difficulties we had to postpone our contest, so be sure to tune in next week for a chance to win a copy of STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-ray and your very own Blu-ray player.
JoBlo, Johnny Moreno and Jim Law sit down for three hours with a crap-load of booze, personal piles of cocaine, and their microphones to analyze one of the most celebrated gangster films of all time, SCARFACE. Join us as we laugh our asses off at the wardrobe, sit in awe of how little Michelle Pfeiffer actually does in this movie, and continuously warn Manny that he's going to get dead if he keeps tapping Tony's sister's ass. He doesn't listen. Moreno tells of life-changing moments within the film. JoBlo fills our heads with mind blowing trivia. Law giggles a lot and drinks two, sometimes, three beers at the same time. So much talent in this group!
JoBlo, himself, stops by the house to help Moreno and I go through all the theatrical releases of September and October. Along the way we get excited, bored, drunk, and surprised (at how drunk we get). Before that, Moreno and I review RED STATE and I finally check out ATTACK THE BLOCK and it takes it's rightful place as my favorite movie of the year. By far. We also preview our upcoming SCARFACE commentary track in honor of the film's Blu-ray release this week. Be sure to listen next week as we'll be telling you how to win your very own Blu-ray player and a STAR WARS (Original Trilogy) Blu-ray boxed set. You do dat, we'll do dis.
With nothing new worth seeing of late, Johnny Moreno revisits a ton of older films to pass the time. Included are BEVERLY HILLS COP, WAYNE'S WORLD, JACKIE BROWN, and THE TOWN. He also checks out UNSTOPPABLE for the first time and refuses to acknowledge Chris Pine. I watch EVERYTHING MUST GO, FAST FIVE, and revisit DEEP BLUE SEA. We blind-answer seven voicemails in a row which leads to conversations about our favorite movie posters of all time and our favorite movie football coaches. There's looks ahead to SHARK NIGHT 3D, and APOLLO 18, and minimal, yet important, Movie Jail talk. See ya, Summer.
