Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 83 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Friday morning 29 December 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby union: Sydney Roosters NRL star Joey Manu is off contract at the end of next season and his situation has now taken a huge twist with The Daily Telegraph reporting Manu may make a bombshell code switch to Japanese rugby union with offers of up to A$1.5Million per season in the 15-man code. In rugby league: Former Dragons playmaker Talatau Amone will have his A$500,000 a year contract ripped up after he chose not to appeal the NRL’s ruling to deregister him after being found guilty of a hammer attack - chasing a tradesman off a roof in a heated dispute in Wollongong in November 2022. In combat sports: Despite his rising celebrity status and ever-increasing bank account, Gervonta “The Tank” Davis has not forgotten where he came from. The 29-year-old returned to his Baltimore roots to buy a nine-house block in his childhood neighbourhood to renovate into affordable housing for the local community. In SportsBiz: The NFL made a concerted effort to play better match-ups on Christmas Day, and they were promptly rewarded with monster ratings, raising the stakes on what they might do in future years on this holiday. Featuring Super Bowl contenders in each of its three games on Christmas day, CBS Sports reported an average audience of 29.2 million viewers for the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders - the most-watched Christmas Day game in 34 years, also up on last year by 29%. ESPN, meanwhile, said its coverage of the Christmas day clash between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers on ABC and ESPN+ drew an average of 27.1 million, the second-most-watched Monday Night Football game in the last 27 years. In football: Man City came from behind to beat Everton 1-3 on their return from the Club World Cup and move five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. Pep G’s men, chasing an unprecedented fourth consecutive English top-flight title, were in deep trouble when trailing 1-0 at Goodison Park. But Phil Foden fizzed a shot past Jordan Pickford in the 53rd minute and Julian Alvarez put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot. Bernardo Silva capped a brilliant second-half performance for the champions, taking advantage of an error from Pickford in the closing minutes to lift the ball over the Everton goalkeeper. City, who had won just one of their previous six league games, have a game in hand over J Klopp’s Liverpool, who are two points clear of second-placed Arsenal, who are in action against West Ham today. Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 82 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Thursday morning 28 December 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby union & rugby league: The local Police report on the tragic death of NRL player and Cook Islands rugby league rep, Troy Dargan junior is a lesson to all young men and women on Christmas break. His death in paradise on Aitutaki Island in the Cook Islands was due to alcohol, over-speeding and riding a scooter without a helmet. In combat sports: Top British TV boxing commentator, Carl Froch has addressed the elephant in the room, "I think Deontay Wilder’s finished. I don’t want to take the shine off Parker by playing down Deontay Wilder, because that was a great performance, but I think Deontay Wilder needs to finish." "I feel that those fights with Fury have taken a lot out of Deontay Wilder. He got knocked down a few times, badly hurt, stopped. Those beatings, they can’t go unnoticed. Every single fight ages you. You leave a piece of you in that ring every time you have a bad fight," Froch stated on his YouTube channel. "Deontay Wilder is now an old guy who’s been beaten a few times now. Twice by Fury and now Parker. Parker is back, done really well. In SportsBiz: Bayern Munich striker, Harry Kane has thanked staff of the luxury Munich hotel he has been staying in since his summer move from Tottenham, as he prepares to move into a family home. The England skipper had been living in a £10,000 per night suite at Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Hotel since August, racking up a bill in excess of £1million. But Kane can easily afford it - now on a salary of approximately £415,000-a-week. His wife Kate did not travel with him with after the birth of their fourth child back in England. In football: From jeers to cheers. From agony to ecstasy? Manchester United looked destined for yet another frustrating defeat heading into halftime yesterday morning, trailing Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford. But an inspired second half performance from the Red Devils has — at least temporarily — eased the pressure on manager Erik10 as his team stormed home to claim a thrilling 3-2 win. United announced on Christmas eve that British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe had agreed a deal to buy a 25 percent stake for $1.3Billion pounds, with Ratcliffe vowing to return the Premier League side to the “top of world football”. United also announced in a statement on Sunday that Ratcliffe’s INEOS Chemicals company was taking control of football operations – so the sixty million dollar question is – What did Ratcliffe’s chemical company inject the Man U players with at halftime??? In rugby league: Panthers star Jarome Luai has taken to social media to share the BIG announcement on Christmas Day - his engagement to his long-term partner Bailey Paris Toleafoa! But it’s not the news Wests Tigers fans have been waiting for! Luai still hasn’t made his mind up yet about the Tigers five-year, A$6Million deal, leaving Tigers fans in limbo. The Club however believe a deal will be signed in the coming days. In combat sports: Japanese boxing sensation, Naoya Inoue became just the second man to be a two-division undisputed World Champion after claiming a 10th-round TKO win over Marlon Tapales in Tokyo yesterday. Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs) joins Terence Crawford as having achieved the feat in the modern, four-belt era, having unified the four bantamweight belts in 2022 and now the Super Bantamweight WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA world titles in 2023. The Tongan tough guy scored two tries in each half while his New Zealand team-mate Richie Mo'unga kicked 16 points, as the visitors retained their unbeaten record after three rounds.   In rugby league: Forward packs are the engine room of every NRL Club and their importance can’t be understated to a team’s success. From Shohei,” Ashley Kelly is told in a video posted to social media. “He wanted to gift you a Porsche.”   Kelly was in shock as she was told she was the new owner of the silver four-door sports car, parked at the end of the driveway.   Oh so sweet Ohtani as I look out to my Toyota Pryus at the end of my driveway!   And that’s a wrap!   For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea – please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites.   Mahalo, Kakite and tank you all too mas for all your love and support.   #TEIVOVORugby #TEIVOVODigital #TeivovoRugby #TeivovoDigital #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #Raka #team #rugbytraining #sports #FRU #Fiji #womensrugby #rugbygirls #wrugby #ladiesrugby #womeninsport #woman #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #fitness #weightlifting #training #team #rugbytraining #sports #rakavi  #DevelopmentFiji

Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 79 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Sunday morning 24 December 2023. Just one more sleep to Christmas! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby union: According to OPTA, no player won more breakdowns or jackal turnovers than Springbok star Kwagga Smith in 2023, when tallying up the players’ totals for both club and country. Smith won 27 jackals at the breakdown in total, for the Springboks and his Japanese Club side, Shizuoka Blue Revs, and claimed an impressive 40 turnovers from ball carriers. In rugby league: Forward packs are the engine room of every NRL Club and their importance can’t be understated to a team’s success. The NRL competition’s heavyweights boast the best packs in the league, including: The Dolphins, with 2024 season pack rating of “C+” with Props: Tom Flegler and Jesse Bromwich, Hooker Jeremy Marshall-King, Backrowers Felise Kaufusi and Connelly Lemuelu and Lock Tom Gilbert. The Dolphins marquee recruit for 2024 - Broncos gun Tom Flegler will be a rock in their pack to lift their rating. In football: Manchester City won the Club World Cup for the first time to end 2023 with five trophies after a 4-0 win over Brazilian champions, Fluminense in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday. Man City’s win was never in doubt once Julian Alvarez opened the scoring inside the first minute, before a first-half own goal realistically ended the Brazilians’ dreams of an upset, and then Phil Foden and Alvarez again rounded off the scoring in the final 20 minutes. In SportsBiz: NBA icon Michael Jordan’s 2023 royalty cheque from Nike for their sales of his “Jordan” brand range — which uses the iconic “Jumpman” logo, will hit US$330Million this year. As such, MJ is the first ever athlete to crack Forbes’ annual list of the 400 richest people in America with his net worth soaring to US$4.7Billion. His contract with Nike — and the deal Jordan negotiated back in 1984 has been described as the “greatest sports business deal in history”. The real scary part is; that the five per cent royalty on sales that Jordan receives will explode in coming years with Nike setting ambitious targets for the brand’s growth. In combat sports: Jai Opetaia didn’t care who was in front of him. The message was going to be delivered that he is still the baddest cruiserweight on the planet. Ellis Zorro was the unfortunate victim, as an overhand left flattened the unbeaten, but overmatched Brit at 2:56 of round one this morning in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As expected, Cuban heavyweight, Frank Sanchez proved to be too good for Kiwi-Tongan Junior Fa, knocking him down in round six before finishing off the brave Fa in round seven with two more vicious knockdowns in the opening fight this morning. And that’s a wrap! For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea – please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites. Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 78 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Saturday morning 23 December 2023. Just two more sleeps to Christmas kiddies! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby union: New All Blacks Head Coach Scott Razor Robertson has retained seven members of his predecessor, Ian Fozzy Foster’s coaching gang with Jason Ryan and Sir Wayne Smith the best known big guns. But the $66Million question is who will Razor name as his Captain – the forever absent Sam Cane or the ever-present Ardie Savea? In rugby league: Forward packs are the engine room of every NRL Club and their importance can’t be understated to a team’s success. They lay the platform for every team’s halves and outside backs to produce points and it’s not a surprise the competition’s heavyweights boast the best packs in the league. The reigning premiers, the Panthers, have some of the NRL’s scariest and most consistent forwards in their pack who have helped them to three-straight titles. The 2024 Panthers Pack Rating is “A+” with Props: James Fisher-Harris and Moses Leota, Hooker: Mitch Kenny, Backrowers: Liam Martin and Scott Sorensen, Lock: Isaah Yeo. The Panthers pack is simply the competition benchmark. In football: The Super League dream is still alive and kicking: Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham all reiterated their pledges for it yesterday, but Arsenal and Liverpool did not. A Barcelona-based newspaper claims that founding Clubs who pull out of the Super League could be hit with a €300M fine. In SportsBiz: There are fears for the future of Super Rugby’s Melbourne Rebels who are under immense financial pressure - A$9Million in debt, a Rugby Australia inspection of their books has revealed. News Corp is reporting that Rugby Australia cannot bail out the Rebels but a forced merger with the ACT Brumbies, who also have financial issues, is a possibility. In combat sports: The Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin @11:45pm GMT and the undercard: · Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker · Daniel Dubois vs Jarrell Miller · Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur – for WBA Lightweight title · Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Agit Kabayel · Jai Opetaia vs Ellis Zorro · Filip Hrgovic vs Mark de Mori · Frank Sanchez vs Junior Fa – @4:15pm GMT In US sport: College football is in the heart of bowl season, postseason matchups attract tens of millions of eyeballs during the holiday break. Looking back on the 2023 season, with major TV viewership metrics now available thanks to data from Sports Media Watch, the results confirm that fans continue to watch blue-blood programs and rivalries the most. While Michigan’s 30-24 victory over Ohio State was the most-watched game of the season, Alabama was actually the most watched team. The Crimson Tide averaged 7.12 million viewers per game, according to a list of the The Top 10 teams for 10 – 12 games/season: · Alabama 7.12M · Ohio State 6.05M · Colorado 6M · Georgia 5.9M · Michigan 5.61M · Tennessee 4.57M · Oregon 4.43M · Texas 4.26M · Florida State 4.16M · Notre Dame 4.15M The outlier here is Colorado, which was thrust into the national spotlight thanks to first-year Head Coach Deion Sanders and Netflix. The Buffaloes had the third- and seventh-most-watched games of the season: 1. Ohio State vs Michigan at 19.07Million viewers on Fox 2. Georgia vs Alabama (SEC Championship): 17.52M on CBS 3. Colorado vs Oregon: 10.03M on ABC 4. Colorado State vs Colorado: 9.3M on ESPN And that’s a wrap! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 77 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Friday morning 22 December 2023. Just three days to Christmas! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby union & league: The Kangaroos have retained No.1 spot in the IRL World Rankings, despite suffering a record 30-0 loss to the Kiwis in the final of the Pacific Cup in Hamilton, New Zealand last month - their biggest loss in 115 years! The Kiwis remain second, ahead of England, who are now No.3 on the back of a 3-0 series win against Tonga (4) and Samoa (5) suffering a 50-0 loss to Michael Maguire’s record-breaking New Zealand team and a 38-12 defeat by Australia in the Pacific Championships. The Papua New Guinea Kumuls are sixth, Fiji Bati seventh, France and Lebanon are next, with the Cook Islands rounding out the top 10. In football & SportsBiz: Remember when the European Super League made a big splash in 2021? Well the European Court of Justice has just ruled that the actions of FIFA and UEFA in squashing it was achieved by “abusing a dominant position” in football. “The FIFA and UEFA rules making any new interclub football project subject to their prior approval, such as the Super League, and prohibiting clubs and players from playing in those competitions, are unlawful,” the court said. UEFA said, though, that it acted in liaison with fans -- who were the main force against the Super League when it first reared its head as the pinnacle of European football club competition. Nine of the 12 clubs involved -- including six from the English Premier League -- threw in the towel almost immediately, leading to the collapse of the Super League within 48 hours of its launch. Two years on, only Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have not stood down from the project, with Juventus withdrawing in July. In combat sports: “My main focus is on Otto Wallin right now. I know where I'm going in my life. But if I don't get past this, then there is no future,” Anthony Joshua on his fight tomorrow against a nobody, seriously – a punching bag who Deontay Wilder knocked out inside one round. Only in America: The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled out all the stops to land Japanese baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani recently, including a big sales pitch from the land of the . . not so living! You guessed it – the Dodgers used the late great NBA star Kobe Bryant. According to ESPN, the Dodgers showed a six-year-old recorded video message from Kobe as part of their pitch to land Ohtani – OK, apart from a 10-year, US$700Million contract. In 2017, Bryant made the minute-long video for the Dodgers as a favor in pursuit of Ohtani, but he instead signed with the Angels. Not this time – the big Mamba got his man! And that’s a wrap! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 76 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Thursday morning 21 December 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In BREAKING RUGBY rugby union news: There are fears for the future of Super Rugby’s Melbourne Rebels who are under immense financial pressure - A$9Million in debt, a Rugby Australia inspection of their books has revealed. News Corp is reporting that Rugby Australia cannot bail out the Rebels but a forced merger with the ACT Brumbies, who also have financial issues, is a possibility. In rugby league: Canberra Raiders Head Coach Ricky Stuart has revealed back-rower Corey Harawira-Naera is facing immediate medical retirement following his mid-game seizure earlier this year. Harawira-Naera hasn’t played since collapsing on the field during the Raiders’ clash against the Rabbitohs in Round 13. The New Zealand Test rep was sidelined for the rest of the season as doctors tried to get to the bottom of what triggered his seizure. It was expected Harawira-Naera would return in 2024, but Stuart is resigned to the Kiwi never playing again. “It is really sad for the kid… it’s a tragedy actually,” Stuart told local media. “The medical reports we are getting is that he is very unlikely to play again. “At 28, that’s tough, but we are supporting him and looking for a pathway for him after football, in the game and in the Club.” In football: BOOM another one bites the dust - Steve Cooper was sacked by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. The 44-year-old Manager had been under fire throughout a dismal run of just one win in 13 Premier League games, including five defeats from their last six games, leaving Forest just one place above the relegation zone. Reports suggest the Premier League strugglers are set to hire Nuno Espirito Santo. In SportsBiz: If sports fans have made one thing clear in 2023, it’s that they have been more eager than ever to attend live games. The headlines throughout the year provided almost uniform testament to that, as the NBA, NHL, MLS, NWSL, the US Open tennis, the WNBA, the MLB and the NFL all reached record attendance levels, But will the good times last? In combat sports: "I knock AJ out, I deliver what I was supposed to deliver years ago. I deliver what they ran from. I deliver what he asked for US$50million, so I'm going to give him a US$50million knockout," Deontay Wilder said at a media conference yesterday. But hang on, isn’t he fighting Kiwi-Samoan, Joseph Parker this weekend, so could he be counting his chickens before they hatch? Even so, the cocky American has warned fans to "not blink" during his comeback fight. Looks like somebody gonna hit the canvas! And that’s a wrap! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 75 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 20 December 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby league: The Cronulla Sharks have secured the prized signature of Tongan enforcer Addin Fonua-Blake on a four-year deal from 2025. The Bulldogs and Tigers fell out of the race, while the Dragons were believed to be the frontrunners, but the Sharks came out of nowhere to lock him up. Fonua-Blake has played 159 NRL games, 97 for Manly and 62 for the NZ Warriors, in addition to 11 international games for Tonga, including the 2021 World Cup, and one Test for New Zealand. Following his impressive 2023 season, where he played 26 games for the NZ Warriors, who finished fourth on the NRL table, Fonua-Blake was named alongside Payne Haas as a front rower in the Dally M Team of the Year. In rugby union: All the talk around the kava bowls in Fiji today is that the Management and Coaching team of the Fijian Drua, led by CEO Mark Evans and Head Coach Mick Byrne should be appointed to take over the Flying Fijians lock, stock and barrel. In football: Former England and Man U star Gary Neville on Tottenham’s Aussie Manager, Ange Postecoglou. “What he’s done in such a short period of time is quite staggering,” Neville said on Sky Sports. “He’s put something in place that’s breathtaking to watch.” “Spurs fans won’t like this but he is amazing, and if you’re Manchester City losing Pep Guardiola in a year or two, you’d be looking at Ange Postecoglou now thinking ‘wow that’s exactly what we want to see’,” he said. “But for the time being Spurs fans can enjoy one of the best brands of football I’ve seen since I finished playing. I love watching Tottenham Hotspur play.” In combat sports: Deontay Wilder is hoping to deliver a “devastating knockout” against Kiwi-Nigerian Joseph Parker. “Parker should be worried, I always say women lie, men lie, but numbers don’t lie. I am the hardest punching boxer in history,” Wilder said. “Every guy I’ve faced I’ve either knocked them out or put him on the canvas so I’m very dangerous and he should be aware of that.” In SportsBiz: World Cup cricket champion Mitchell Starc has been sold for a record sum in yesterday’s Indian Premier League Auction. Starc, who has not made an IPL appearance since 2015, was snapped up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for A$4.42Million, the highest price in the competition’s history, following an intense bidding war with the Gujarat Titans. If the left-armer bowls four overs in every match during the six-week tournament, he’ll make approximately A$13,185 per delivery. Other Australians sold in the 2024 IPL Auction: · Pat Cummins — $3.66M to Sunrisers Hyderabad · Spencer Johnson — $1.78M to Gujarat Titans · Travis Head — $1.22M to Sunrisers Hyderabad · Jhye Richardson — $892,000 to Delhi Capitals · Ashton Turner — $178,000 to Lucknow Super Giants In US Sports: NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been hospitalised after falling at a concert and suffering a broken hip, according to a statement on Sunday 17 December. Abdul-Jabbar, 76, is a six-time NBA champion and six-time Most Valuable Player in his 20 league seasons. The statement did not say what concert Abdul-Jabbar was attending when he fell, but I’m guessing he’s a Swiftee! And that’s a wrap! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 74 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Tuesday morning 19 December 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby league: As the Jarome Luai – Wests Tigers deal plays out, a controversial new rule makes the chase more complex. Under the new CBA, there is a 10-day cooling off period after a player receives an offer they’re willing to accept from another Club. That gives the player’s former Club – in this case the Panthers, a chance to negotiate and potentially up their offer if they would like. Those 10 days also gives the player the option to change his mind if he wants to. Once the 10 day period ends, the player is free to sign with either Club. Staying with Wests Tigers – you gain some, you lose some: Flyer Junior Tupou has reportedly accepted an offer from Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins to move north to Queensland in 2025 and Benji Marshall won’t stand in the way of his move despite being keen on retaining Tupou beyond 2024. In rugby union: A month after claiming World Rugby’s biggest prize, Ardie Savea has claimed the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year at the New Zealand Rugby Awards. It is the second time Savea has received the top honour, while he was also named the All Blacks Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. The World 7s Series winning All Blacks and Black Ferns 7s teams were each recognised with the Men’s team named Adidas New Zealand Team of the Year and Women’s Coach Cory Sweeney the ASB New Zealand Coach of the Year. In football: UEFA Champions League Last 16 first round games: FC Porto vs Arsenal, Napoli vs Barcelona, Paris vs Real Sociedad, Inter vs Atletico de Madrid, PSV vs Borussia Dortmund, Lazio vs Bayren Munich, Coppenhagen vs Man City and Leipzig vs Real Madrid. In combat sports: Australian-Samoan World Champion, Jai Opetaia has blown up at the IBF after they stripped him of his IBF Cruiserweight title for taking a US$450,000 payday in Saudi Arabia on 23 December against England’s Ellis Zorro (17-0, 7 KO's). Opetaia reportedly has a couple of million dollars more coming his way in a three-fight deal that’s in the works with the Saudis. But fighting on the “Day of Reckoning” card which also features Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois means snubbing the IBF’s mandatory title defence – against Mairis Briedis, who Opetaia beat last year to win the belt despite suffering a broken jaw in two places. In SportsBiz: They didn’t get the win at the PNC Championship, but Tiger Woods and his son Charlie once again stole the show on the final day of the exhibition event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. Charlie Woods only turns 15 in February, drove a green 325M away, and also showcased a sharp touch around the greens. The highlight was when Charlie Woods expertly chipped in for birdie and capped off the magic moment with a fist-pump that was reminiscent of his famous father in his prime. Tiger Woods watched and applauded while visibly beaming with pride. Kaching – show me the money Nike! And that’s a wrap! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby league: With superstar free agent Jarome Luai’s future expected to be settled in the coming days, the market for the remaining crop of elite playmakers is heating up. The Bulldogs are still in need of a partner for gun five-eighth Matt Burton. While the Cowboys are also battling to retain their young No.6 who could field offers worth around A$1Million, and the Canberra Raiders could also do with a Jack Wighton replacement. In rugby union: In a first for Fiji sports, the Fijian Drua has launched its very own travel booking website to make it even easier for fans to attend matches in Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. Launched in partnership with New Zealand travel technology experts Travel Lab, Fijian Drua Travel is the first of its kind for any Super Rugby side and is a one-stop shop for fans wanting the best packaged deals including flights, accommodation, matchday tickets, matchday hospitality, ground transfers and many other activities. Ancelotti’s contract runs out at the end of this season. “There’s no rush. We’re here until 30 June 2024.” In combat sports: The UFC’s most hated fighter, Colby Covington, failed to live up to his tough talk, flopping in his UFC296 main event loss to UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards. The American nationalist, who was heavily cheered pre-fight - received boos after he went quiet once he got into the octagon, with Brit, Edwards winning by unanimous decision 49-46 on all three scorecards. In SportsBiz: The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled out all the stops to land Shohei Ohtani, including a big sales pitch from the late great NBA star Kobe Bryant. According to ESPN, the Dodgers showed a six-year-old recorded video message from Bryant as part of their pitch to land Ohtani – OK, apart from a 10-year, US$700Million contract. In 2017, Bryant made the minute-long video for the Dodgers as a favor in pursuit of Ohtani, but he instead signed with the Angels. But this time, the Dodgers got the highly coveted player and Ohtani spoke highly of the video from the Lakers star, who died in a January 2020 helicopter crash. “That was one of the highlights of the whole meeting,” Ohtani told ESPN. “I was really surprised to see it. It was a strong and touching message.” Apparently, that moment became the cherry on top for Ohtani to commit to Los Angeles in the largest contract in professional sports history. Show me the money! For US$700M I’ll sign anything! And that’s a wrap! Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby league: After reports filtered through yesterday morning in Sydney that Jarome Luai would be leaving the Panthers to join Wests Tigers on a five-year A$6Million deal, the Panthers playmaker posted on Instagram: “No pen to paper here. I’ll let yous know when a deal is done”. It was the Sydney Morning Herald who reported that Luai had agreed to the deal with the Tigers, but according to The Daily Telegraph, no such deal has been done, with the Bulldogs still in the running for the five-eighth’s signature as well as a third unnamed club. In combat sports: UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards has promised to make Colby Covington pay for the now infamous remarks made about his late father, saying: “That man is as good as dead”. Edwards will look to defend UFC gold for a second straight time against America’s fighting villain Covington at UFC296 in Las Vegas, today. The fight will be the culmination of hyped, and at times dark, build-up which this week saw Covington reference the champ’s father who was murdered in a London nightclub when he was 13. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent.  In rugby league: The Storm will play the Knights in Fiji in the pre-season in what marks the first NRL-sanctioned rugby league game in the country. The match will be played on 24 February at Churchill Park, Lautoka, and will be Melbourne’s second trial in preparation for the 2024 season.   Fiji captain and Storm star Tui Kamikamica flew to Fiji with Club CEO Justin Rodski to announce the historic match: “We are very excited about bringing the first ever NRL match to Fiji,” Rodski said.   “We already have a lot of Fijian talent within our game, and this serves as an incredible opportunity to not only grow the sport we love but help develop the next wave of talent and hopefully give more young men and women the chance to play NRL or NRLW.”   The Storm will spend the week leading into the match in Fiji to connect with the local Fijian community, engaging with schools and local rugby league clubs. The Storm will also wear a specially designed training t-shirt during the week and the match ball will carry traditional Fiji artwork to recognise the significance of the match.   In rugby union: The Barbarians have announced they will play Fiji in a cracker at Twickenham Stadium in the summer of 2024.   The Killik Cup will be on the line on Saturday 22 June with kick-off at 3pm GMT, with Robbie Deans coaching the Barbarians against an all-star Fiji line-up – who set pulses racing at the recent Rugby World Cup on their way to the quarter-finals.   In US Sports: The NFL owners meeting, hosted at a resort in Irving, Texas, yielded progress on multiple topics before all the owners boarded their private jets and flew home.   Super Bowl LXI was awarded to Southern California. He’s taken the Raiders, Broncos, Dragons and Rabbitohs to the NRL grand final and boasts a win rate of 62 per cent dating back to 1987. Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 69 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Thursday morning 14 December 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. It was announced in February that McGregor would return to competition against Michael Chandler in 2023, though no date was revealed for the bout. Ten months on, the fight is still up in the air, and White was coy on when asked about the Irishman’s return. In an interview with TNT Sports, the UFC President said, “At the end of the day… I say it all the time: Conor is extremely wealthy, has a lot of different options in his life. When Conor gets that hunger back and really wants to come back and fight, it’s all up to him. “If you look at what the guy has accomplished in such a short amount of time, the amount of money that he’s made, and the business opportunities that he’s taken outside of the Octagon, Conor can do whatever the hell Conor wants to do – and good for him.” And that’s a wrap!
