Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 06 Episode 02 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright and sunny Sunday morning 02 July 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: Noticed how southern hemisphere rugby nations all took a bashing from their northern hemisphere opponents in the second round of the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa this past week? Is the pendulum really swinging north or was this just a glitch? Meanwhile the whole of New Zealand is still recovering from the battering they took from cyclone Pisolo Tuilagi! In rugby league: Records tumbled as the North Queensland Cowboys utterly dismantled a hapless Wests Tigers outfit in a 74-0 mauling at Queensland Country Bank Stadium. The 74-point victory was the biggest winning margin since 1935 and the third-biggest winning margin in history along with the equal-third most points scored in a game. Valentine Holmes 30-point haul was also the most by an individual Cowboys player in the Club’s history, with the superstar centre bagging two tries and nailing 11 conversions. Selwyn Cobbo had ‘a night to remember’ - scoring three tries, which included a try of the year contender as the Broncos beat the Dolphins 16-24 in another entertaining “Battle of Brisbane”. TV commentator Andrew Voss called it, “The Selwyn Cobbo Magic Show at the Gabba.” In Sportsbiz: The NBA’s free agency period opened at 8am yesterday morning — and it didn’t take long for massive deals to be locked in. A reported US$1Billion in salaries was handed out in the first hour of the window opening as franchises splashed the cash. Kyrie Irving the biggest free agent to be taken off the board, agreeing to a three-year, US$126Million deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks. Four-time NBA champion Draymond Green looked set to leave the Warriors – where he has played his entire career – but instead signed a new four-year deal worth US$100M. In football: The Premier League transfer window is also officially open, and deals are flying in thick and fast ahead of the new season. Chelsea signed Senegal international, Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal on Friday, after he impressed in La Liga last season with 12 goals in 26 appearances. While Kai Havertz crossed London to join Arsenal, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly moved to Saudi Arabia and midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek joined AC Milan after spending his entire career as a Chelsea player. A deal has also been agreed between Chelsea and Manchester United for the sale of Mason Mount. In boxing: Are we confused or what? - in a massive blow to Australian boxing superstar Tim Tszyu, his long-awaited world title unification fight with undisputed champ Jermell Charlo has been ruled out. Undisputed World Super Welterweight Champion Charlo (35-1-1) will instead move up two weight divisions to fight undisputed Super Middleweight Champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) on 30 September. Jermell and Jermall Charlo are twin brothers and Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) is the WBC Middleweight Champion, but he hasn't fought for two years. Jermell, Jarmall what the hell, both these Charlo bros are running from Tszyu! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 06 Episode 01 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright and sunny Saturday morning 01 July 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: There is a new Samoan Warrior wreaking havoc on opposition defences, with Henry Tuilagi’s 150kg son Posolo Tuilagi lighting up the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa. The 18-year-old’s latest victim was New Zealand, with the 1.92M tall lock scoring two tries in an action packed “Man of the Match” performance; helping his side to a 35-14 win and handing New Zealand their biggest loss in the history of the U20 Championship. The Tuilagi name is well known in international rugby, with the Tuilagi brothers: Henry, Manu, Alesana, Freddie and Anitelea, all striking fear into their opposition on the field with their sheer size and physicality. In rugby league: FOX Sports Australia has named their NSW Blues side to beat Queensland as: Dylan Edwards, Brian To’o, Stephen Crichton, Campbell Graham, Josh Addo-Carr, Matt Burton, Mitchell Moses, Payne Haas, Reece Robson, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Hudson Young, Liam Martin and Cameron Murray (c). You gotta ask – aren’t all media meant to be neutral? Meanwhile, a teary-eyed Storm Coach, Craig Bellamy conceded his side “got what we deserved” after they coughed up a 14-point lead to lose 34-16 to the Panthers yesterday. Melbourne had control of the game early, scoring two tries, but a penalty try to Stephen Crichton in the 31st minute opened the floodgates for Penrith and they ran in five more. To South Sydney where Cody Walker and Alex Johnston were on fire, while rookie Tyrone Munro starred on debut as the Rabbitohs thrashed the NZ Warriors 6-28 at Go Media Stadium er better known as Mount Smart in Auckland. Walker finished with two linebreak assists and a try assist, while Johnston had a double and Munro scored a try on debut and set up another in the upset win. In Sportsbiz: FIFA has ordered Cardiff Football Club to make the full transfer fee payment of US$19Million to Nantes for Emiliano Sala’s transfer. Sala died when the light aircraft he was flying in from France to Wales crashed into the English Channel in January 2019 – remember? Two days after Cardiff had announced their signing of the 28-year-old Argentinian forward from Nantes. Cardiff had paid a one third installment, but they have now been ordered by FIFA to pay the last two installments of the fee as well. In football: Aaron Mooy, one of Australia’s most decorated footballers, has called time on his professional career. The 32-year-old said in a statement: “This has been a hugely difficult decision, but I feel the time is right for the next generation to be given the opportunity.” Mooy has been a key figure for the Socceroos for a decade, amasssing 57 caps for his country while featuring in two FIFA World Cups - in Russia in 2018 and the Socceroos’ successful campaign in Qatar 2022 where they progressed past the group stage for the first time since 2006. Co-host Australia has already sold out its 20 July opening game against Ireland at the 80,000-seat Stadium Australia. Women’s World Cup organisers say fellow co-host New Zealand’s opening match against Norway the same day is also expected to sell out at Auckland’s 40,000-capacity Eden Park.Meanwhile, Brazil has named legendary number 10, considered by many the greatest female footballer ever – Marta, to lead a fresh-faced Brazil to the women’s FIFA World Cup when the tournament kicks off in Sydney and Auckland. At age 37, Marta will be playing in her sixth World Cup, after battling back from a knee injury that sidelined her for nearly a year.In boxing: Rising US heavyweight hope, Jared ‘Big Baby’ Anderson 14-0 (14 KOs) is chomping at the bit to face former IBF champ ‘Prince’ Charles Martin 29-3-1 in Toledo, Ohio tomorrow night. The 23-year-old, who will be fighting in his hometown, will be looking to keep his impeccable knockout record alive with another early finish.Southpaw Martin, 37, has only been stopped by Anthony Joshua seven years ago in a loss that cost him his IBF title, and later against perennial contender Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz in January last year, a fight he was leading on two of the scorecards at the time of the stoppage. For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea – please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites.Mahalo, Kakite and tank you all too mass for all your love and support.#TEIVOVORugby #TEIVOVODigital #TeivovoRugby #TeivovoDigital #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #Raka #team #rugbytraining #sports #FRU #Fiji #womensrugby #rugbygirls #wrugby #ladiesrugby #womeninsport #woman #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #fitness #weightlifting #training #team #rugbytraining #sports #rakavi #DevelopmentFiji

Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 86 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright and sunny Thursday morning 29 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We start with our World Famous Tips for World Rugby U20 Championship Round Two games today: Ireland to jackaroo Australia, France to googaloo New Zealand, Wales to woolaroo Japan and tomorrow; South Africa to pizzaroo Italy, Argentina to gingaloo Georgia and Fiji to fandangaloo England. More on the Fiji Team at the World Rugby U20 Championship in Background Buzz at the end of this podcast. In rugby league: Embattled NSW Blues Coach Brad Fittler is under huge pressure having lost five of his past six games in charge and three of the past four series. The former champion player is staring down the barrel of the NSW Blues’ first series whitewash in 13 years when they play the Quuensland Maroons in their dead rubber on 12 July in Sydney. NSW Rugby League will make a decision on Fittler’s future after ORIGIN III. Either Fittler will be sacked or under a radical new proposal, they will appoint a coaching director to assist Fittler. The board are considering making that man former Dragons, Eels, Knights and Roosters coach Brian Smith, according to NINE Wide World of Sports. Smith coached 679 first-grade games between 1984 and 2016 but hasn’t coached in the NRL since the Roosters sacked him in 2012. The 69-year-old would play a mentoring role for Fittler who appears to need some guidance in recent years with several left-field selections. Meanwhile in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court yesterday, Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson told Parramatta Eels star Dylan Brown “I’m not going to set you up for failure … you need to learn from this,” adding “You’ve got some work to do,” as she sentenced him to an 18-months community corrections order. This after Brown pleaded guilty to two counts of touching a woman’s breasts without her consent at the Golden Sheaf Hotel in Double Bay on 03 June. The NRL star had written a letter of apology to the woman saying he was “deeply sorry” for his actions. Brown, who was born in New Zealand, has played 95 games for the Eels since making his debut with the team in 2019 when he was just 18. In Sportsbiz: Manchester United sold 2.4 million tickets during the 2022-23 season, beating a club record set six years ago. The flow on effect saw Man U post US$217Million in fiscal third-quarter revenue, up by 11% from the same period a year ago. Adjusted earnings for the period ended 31 March nearly doubled to US$51M and the net loss narrowed by 80% to US$7.1M. The Club also raised its fiscal 2023 outlook to a record revenue level between US$800M and US$815M. Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 85 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright and sunny Wednesday morning 28 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In the World Rugby U20 Championship Round Two games in South Africa on Thursday: Australia vs Ireland, France vs New Zealand, Wales vs Japan. And on Friday 30 June, South Africa vs Italy, Argentina vs Georgia, followed by England vs Fiji. In rugby league: Broncos superstar Reece Walsh has been found guilty of contrary conduct after a marathon NRL judiciary hearing last night, and handed a three-game suspension, which means he will miss State of Origin III for Queensland. In Sportsbiz: British racing team Hitech Grand Prix has confirmed it’s lodged a bid to join Formula 1 in 2026, thanks to cash from a new investor. Hitech, which already races in Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4, has sold a 25 per cent stake of its parent company to Vladimir Kim, who Forbes reports is Kazakhstan’s richest man, as part owner of KAZ Minerals, which is among the top 10 copper producers in the world. Before a prospective F1 team can warm up to the US$135Million cost cap, it must first pay a US$200M entry fee split among the existing 10 F1 teams as compensation. In football: The Australian contingent at Tottenham Hotspur has grown with former Socceroos Captain Mile Jedinak joining Ange Postecoglou’s staff as Assistant Coach. Jedinak was the captain of Australia throughout Postecoglou’s entire stint in charge of the national side and led the Socceroos to the 2015 Asian Cup crown on home soil. Jedinak previously played in the Premier League for both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. In boxing: Hype around the Zuckerberg versus Musk fight continues to grow! UFC Prez, Dana White believes the match “would break all pay-per-view records and make hundreds of millions of dollars,” which he said both guys would donate to charity. In fact, he thinks the brawl could “triple” what Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor brought in August 2017. Though UFC fights typically cost US$80 to watch via pay-per-view, White said he’d “probably charge 100 bucks” to see Musk versus Zuckerberg. As for their physical abilities, White said Zuckerberg trains very hard and is actually good at jiu-jitsu. Musk apparently told White that he not only has experience in martial arts, but also got into “plenty of fights growing up in South Africa. Over on Twitter, however, Musk is currently cracking jokes about his strength posting, “I almost never work out, except for picking up my kids and throwing them in the air,” the father of 10 quipped. Zuckerberg, for his part, tweeted, “This is going to be fun!” Oh boy, what can I say, “Only in America.” For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea – Mahalo, vina’a and tank you. Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 84 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a cloudy and bright Tuesday morning 27 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: The second Oceania Women’s Rugby Combine will be held in Fiji from August 21 through 26 this year. Twenty players from Samoa, Tonga and Papua New Guinea were selected for the Combine based on their performances at the 2023 Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship at Bond University on the Gold Coast, Australia last month. Oceania Rugby will select nine women rugby players from the Combine for Super W 2024 Season scholarship placements, thanks to the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports program. In rugby league: Many are condemning the NRL’s contract rules that allows players to break contracts, amid the unfolding Ben Hunt drama, with the Dragons star’s move to the Broncos imminent. Hunt is pushing for an immediate release despite his lucrative contract running until the end of 2025. Ben Hunt backed up from ORIGIN II in the Dragons loss to the NZ Warriors last Friday night, but Hunt has almost certainly played his last game for the Club as he pushes for an early exit. Wayne Bennett says there is “no accountability” when players are allowed to break contracts. Meanwhile, Manly has officially signed Luke Brooks to a huge long-term deal while also signing Roosters Centre Jaxson Paulo and Wests Tigers outside back Tommy Talau. Brooks, Paulo and Talau will all join the Club in 2024, while the Sea Eagles have also re-signed Tolu Koula until the end of 2027. Brooks, 28, has played 202 NRL games since making his first-grade debut for Wests Tigers in 2013. Paulo, 23, has scored 25 tries in 54 NRL matches through stints at South Sydney and now the Sydney Roosters. He has also represented Samoa at Test level. “Jaxson brings over 50 games of NRL experience with him. He has been in really good systems at the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Sydney Roosters,’’ Manly Coach, Anthony Seibold said. In Sportsbiz: A group of investors including Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has bought a 24 per cent stake in the Alpine Formula 1 team for US$218Million, valuing the business at approximately US$909M. Reynolds and McElhenney’s most notable sporting investment is in Welsh football club Wrexham, the story of which is told in a Netflix documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham”. In football: Chelsea could profit further from Saudi cash with Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy close to joining Al Ahli, while Moroccan Wing Hakim Ziyech is on the brink of a move to Al Nassr. The English Club needs to sell players before the end of the month to comply with financial fair play regulations, after spending over £500 million on new signings last year. Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 82 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright and sunny Sunday morning 25 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.  In rugby: Results from the first round of pool games at the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa this weekend: Argentina 43-15 Italy, Ireland 34-34 England, France 75-12 Japan and on Sunday New Zealand 27-26 Wales, Australia 46-37 Fiji and Georgia vs South Africa underway. In rugby league: Eels Wing Maika Sivo was put on report for high contact on Dolphins tough guy, Felise Kaufusi and he might have a case to answer with the NRL Judiciary, as the Dolphins were embarrassed on the Sunshine Coast, with the Eels scoring seven times in the opening forty minutes for a 42-4 lead at half-time; the highest first-half score for Parramatta in their 77-year history. After an ear-bashing by Wayne, the Dolphins bounced back in the second forty for a final score line of 48-20, Parramatta’s fifth consecutive win. Meanwhile, Panthers Coach Ivan Cleary has questioned whether State of Origin players backing up for their Clubs is a good thing.   “All our ORIGIN guys played at the World Cup, they all played for New South Wales and we probably underestimate the emotional toll that ORIGIN can take, especially if you lose, that’s all part of it.   Penrith beat the Knights 12-20 last night, despite resting their ORIGIN stars Jarome Luai, Stephen Crichton, Liam Martin, Isaah Yeo and Brian To’o in a win that Cleary said was “enormous” in setting up their title defence.   Having said that, Xavier Coates recorded 190 running Metres, eight tackle busts, two line breaks and two tries in a match-winning effort for the Storm 24-6 Manly, three nights after representing the Maroons in ORIGIN II.   Melbourne Coach Craig Bellamy believes Coates was the best on the field for the Storm: “Xavier was our best player,” Bellamy said. “I couldn’t put a big enough rap on Xavier tonight. He was outstanding.”   In boxing: It’s on! UFC President Dana White guarantees the talked-about fight between famous billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is already being discussed. White said there is a huge difference in the pair’s size and they are trying to work it out but definitely, it would be categorized as an exhibition match. White revealed that he is the middleman of what would be the biggest fight in history.    In football: The Arabs have struck again - Wolves Captain Ruben Neves on Friday became the latest major player to move to Saudi Arabia, the 26-year-old Portuguese international joining Al-Hilal. Neves leaves Wolves after six seasons for “a club record fee”, the Premier League side announced, reported to be around US$60Million.   He will earn a reported US$381,000 a week at Al-Hilal, tax free – blowing his previous reported salary of US$60,000 a week with the Wolves.   For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea – please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites.   Mahalo, vina’a and tank you all too mass for all your love and support.   #TEIVOVORugby #TEIVOVODigital #TeivovoRugby #TeivovoDigital #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #Raka #team #rugbytraining #sports #FRU #Fiji #womensrugby #rugbygirls #wrugby #ladiesrugby #womeninsport #woman #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #fitness #weightlifting #training #team #rugbytraining #sports #rakavi  #DevelopmentFiji

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.  At the NBA Draft yesterday: A new era for basketball is underway after French prodigy Victor Wembanyama was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs with the top pick in the NBA draft. The French star has the size and strength to dominate defensively mixed with the ball-handling skills and passing talent of a guard, providing a unique package that has analysts calling him the best prospect since LeBron James joined the NBA two decades ago. Even though he knew this moment was coming, Wembanyama was highly emotional after officially having his name called. Apparently his old girlfriend wants to suddenly make up! In rugby league: While ORIGIN III may be a dead rubber, there is plenty for the NSW Blues to gain as it looks to salvage something - anything, from a series that opened with so much promise and instead has amounted to nothing. But before the Blues even consider any team changes, they must answer one simple question first — is Brad Fittler NSW Blues Coach next year? Fittler’s contract with the Blues expires at the end of 2023. Meanwhile Maroons skipper Daly Cherry-Evans delivered a mammoth performance to seal the ORIGIN Series at Suncorp on Wednesday, but now he has hinted at retiring: “As I get older the thought of retirement definitely starts to float through your head,” Cherry-Evans said. The Manly halfback has now played 21 games for his State and has captained the Maroons to series victory on three occasions since taking the armband in 2019. In rugby: Our World Famous Tips for the first round of pool games at the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa this weekend: We tip Argentina to pizza Italy, Ireland to stew England, France to sashimi Japan and on Sunday New Zealand to wallop Wales, Australia to bar-b-q Fiji at 3:30am Fiji time on Monday morning and Georgia to grill South Africa. In Sportsbiz: The San Antonio Spurs surprised no one with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft yesterday, selecting French sensation Victor Wembanyama, the NBA’s most hyped prospect since LeBron James. Not surprisingly, the Spurs generated more than 2500 new season-ticket membership deposits immediately following last month’s NBA Lottery draw, now the number of new deposits is in excess of 4000 and still rising. The new sales will undoubtedly push the Spurs above their NBA attendance average of 16,937 last season. Even before entering the league, Wembanyama last season generated 350 million views on NBA social media channels. In boxing: The woman who has accused Conor McGregor of rape after Game 4 of the NBA Finals was allegedly offered US$100,000 in hush money — an offer that was apparently rescinded after news of the alleged sex assault broke, The Daily Mail has reported. Her lawyer, Ariel Mitchell said Miami Heat and NBA officials were hastily trying to keep the apparent incident under wraps, the New York Post reports. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby league: “I just can’t believe it, I feel awful. Totally gutted,” Gold Coast Titans Coach, Justin Holbrook told The Courier Mail after his shock mid-season axing by the Club yesterday. He will be replaced by former Manly Coach, Des Hasler. The big question is; is NSW Blues Coach, Brad Fittler next on the Coaches merry-go-round? In rugby: Fiji plays their first World Rugby U20 Championship Pool game against Australia on Sunday at Danie Craven Stadium, Stellenbosch at 4:30pm local time so at 3:30am Fiji time on Monday morning. In other Pool games on Saturday: Argentina vs Italy, England vs Ireland, France vs Japan and on Sunday it is Wales vs New Zealand and South Africa vs Georgia. In football: Man City’s star midfielder and Captain, Ilkay Gundogan is leaving the treble winners to join Barcelona on a free transfer, after being offered a three-year deal when his City contract expires at the end of June. Pep G offered the 32-year-old a new one-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months, but the writing was on the wall for Gundogan after City agreed a US$38.2Million deal for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic. Happy NBA Draft day! The San Antonio Spurs will enter a new era tonight when they select Victor Wembanyama, widely regarded as the best prospect since LeBron James. Twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson are widely projected to be selected early in the evening after spending the last two years playing in the Overtime Elite league; the first players drafted from the Atlanta-based developmental competition for 16-to-20-year-olds. In Sportsbiz: The Qatar Investment Authority purchased a 5% stake in Monumental Sports & Entertainment, becoming the first sovereign wealth fund to invest in a major US professional sports team. Monumental owns the NBA’s Washington Capital and NHL’s Wizards, as well as the WNBA’s Mystics. Qatar’s investment values Monumental at around us$4billion. Qatar’s biggest sports investment to date came in 2012, when it purchased majority ownership of Paris Saint-Germain Football Club @ US$4.2B. In a similar vein, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has invested in LIV Golf and professional soccer. Over the last year, the NBA and NHL have opened up rules allowing private equity @ 20% cap for capital investment in a team and franchises in those two sports can have no more than 30% private equity ownership. And finally in boxing: A potential epic clash between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has been set in motion by their fiery social media exchanges. The stoush came about after Zuckerberg, the brains behind Meta, challenged Musk, the mysterious businessman and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX - Zuckerberg posted on Twitter to a fight in a cage. We tip Zuckerberg to win by a technical knockout after bashing Musk with his handbag! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 79 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright and sunny Thursday morning 22 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby league: “There’s better than that, too. They’re only getting started, this team,” a proud Maroons Coach, Bill Slater said after Queensland successfully defended the State of Origin shield, dismantling the NSW Blues 6-32 to clinch the series in a statement victory at Suncorp Stadium last night. Queensland Captain Daly Cherry-Evans was inspirational in the win, leading a Maroons backline clinical in its finishing. Already down Nathan Cleary and Apisai Koroisau, the Blues suffered an early setback last night as Tom Trbojevic came from the field in the 3rd minute. NSW Blues Coach Brad Fittler will now be scrutinised for his decision to bring Damien Cook on to replace the Blues centre. The drama was not over after the final whistle at ORIGIN II, with two late send offs and a sin bin after the two sides came together. Josh Addo-Carr was the first to go, binned for striking while Reece Walsh and Jarome Luai were sent off for head butting. In rugby: The World Rugby U20 Championship returns after a four-year absence due to the COVID pandemic, with South Africa hosting the tournament for the first time since 2012. France, winners of the last two tournaments in 2018 and 2019, will face six-time champions New Zealand, Wales and Japan in Pool A. While Ireland, who were runners-up in 2016, are full of confidence after winning the U20 Six Nations grand slam in March. They are joined in Pool B by 2019 runners-up Australia, three-time winners England and Fiji. In boxing: “I know I’ve said it a few times now, but I’m very excited. It’s here, it’s landed. We’re coming and we’re bringing pain with us, we’re bringing a whole lot of pain. Keep tuned, big announcement coming,” Tyson Fury on social media once again promising fans an imminent ‘big announcement’. The WBC World Heavyweight Champion is yet to fight this year, but has been very active on Instagram in the past month, hinting at a ring return. In football: France’s World Cup-winning midfielder N’Golo Kante has joined compatriot Karim Benzema at Saudi Arabian champions Al Itihad, the Club said in a statement yesterday. The 32-year-old becomes the latest in a line of European stars choosing to ply their trade in the desert kingdom, which is making big-money moves across elite sport. According to the Daily Mail, his three-year contract will see Kante earn US$109Million per year – and all US$322M is tax free. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: Thankfully, for stone cold broke Fiji Rugby Union, World Rugby pays for flights, accommodation, food and transport for 10 staff and 30 players for Team Fijiana to play in the World Rugby WXV Tier 3 competition in October in Dubai, where Team Fijiana will be up against Ireland, Kazakhstan, Kenya and the last 2 teams from the winner of Brazil versus Colombia who play off 15 July and Spain versus Italy who play off 22 July. In rugby league: Cowboys star Jeremiah Nanai is back for the Maroons after missing the ORIGIN series opener due to suspension, while Titans big man Moeaki Fotuaika will make his first appearance since 2021. Ben Hunt will also start at Hooker for the Blues with Harry Grant coming off the bench. For the Blues Brothers, Josh Addo-Carr and Brian To'o may switch wings playing on the opposite sides to ORIGIN One. So To'o on the right wing, while Addo-Carr will partner Stephen Crichton on the left. We tip the Maroons to kill it at Suncorp. In SportsBiz: Just over a year out from the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024, and Police from the Anti-corruption and financial crime investigations unit, raided the headquarters of the organizing committee and the offices of the organisation in charge of the Olympic construction sites yesterday, a source close to the investigation told AFP. The reason for the raid was not immediately clear. In boxing: While Tim Tszyu was being congratulated by his Aussie fans immediately after he had just beaten Carlos Ocampo to a pulp on the Gold Coast last Sunday, Tszyu’s Mum, Natilia entered Ocampo’s changing room to console him. Ocampo was emotional as Natalia embraced him, offering her commiserations and putting her hand on his face. What can we say, but that’s a Mother’s love right there. And finally in football: An international football friendly between New Zealand and Qatar was abandoned in Austria on Monday after the Kiwis claimed one of their players, Michael Boxall was racially abused by an opponent. New Zealand did not return for the second half of the match after the incident, that occurred shortly before the break with them leading 1-0. The Qatar Coach said New Zealand’s captain came over at halftime to inform him they would not be resuming the game. “The facts are, apparently two players on the pitch exchanged words. The New Zealand players decided to support their teammate. All our team decided to do was support our player,” the Qatar Coach said. Come on girls grow a pair! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 77 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on another bright, sunny and warm Tuesday morning 20 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: Rookie All Black, Tamaiti Williams 22, named by the selectors in their first All Blacks squad for 2023 with four other rookies, as one of 20 forwards; the big Crusaders prop is the heaviest All Black ever, weighing in at 144Kg of pure Maori muscle! The second cab off this rank is former All Black back rower, Filo Tiatia weighing in at 138Kg. The legendary All Black Wing, Jonah Lomu wasn’t far behind! In rugby league: “I don’t think the Maroons fans will care who I am, they'll be booing me just as much as the rest of the boys,” NSW Blues enforcer Payne Haas told NRL.com, saying he is prepared for a chorus of boos from the fans he usually calls his own in tomorrow night’s ORIGIN decider at Suncorp. Determined to defy the odds and keep the series alive at “The Cauldron”, the Broncos star knows his Blues Brothers are in for a torrid reception at a ground where they have lost five of their last six ORIGIN games. The Maroons meanwhile, are just 80 minutes away from retaining ORIGIN bragging rights and making it four series wins in the last five years. In golf: American Wyndham Clark held his nerve to win his first Major championship at the 123rd US Open, for a one-shot win over Northern Irish star, Rory McIlroy, who missed out on a fifth Major title. Clark, a 120-1 outsider at the start of the week, carded a closing 70 at Los Angeles Country Club to finish 10 under par, a shot ahead of McIlroy, taking home the US$3.5Million first prize. In SportsBiz: The 2023 season of the Indian Premier League drew more than 500 million viewers, a 32% growth in television ratings on last season. The very first IPL game of the 2023 season attracted 130 million viewers, compared with a record 115.1 million for the 2023 Super Bowl in the US. And the 2023 IPL champions the Chennai Super Kings are valued at US$1.2Billion according to Forbes in 2022 - a bargain. They have been touted as the “Manchester United of the IPL”, and may one day become one of the top global sporting franchises like the Dallas Cowboys at US$8B and Real Madrid at US$5B. Part of India’s success is its 1.4 billion people, as well as its economic success and growing middle class. By 2025, India’s middle class will number 583 million people, or 41% of the population. They have been supercharged by the digitisation of the Indian economy, with televisions and smart phones giving the average cricket lover access to their favourite teams. And in boxing: Tim Tszyu went fishing within 90 minutes of his incredible KO win over Mexican Carlos Ocampo and by August will go into lockdown for a $300,000 US camp before fighting American star Jermell Charlo for all four of his Super Welterweight titles around the middle of October. Of course Tszyu used dynamite and had a great catch! Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 76 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a bright, sunny and warm Monday morning 19 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: Congratulations Emoni Narawa 23 years old of the Chiefs, named by the All Blacks selectors in their first All Blacks squad for 2023 made up of 36 players, including 20 x forwards and 16 backs with four other rookies: Dallas McLeod 24, a Crusaders midfielder, Hurricanes halfback Cam Roigard 22, Chiefs loose forward and cousin, Samipeni Finau 24 and Tamaiti Williams 22, the big Crusaders prop. Unavailable for selection to the All Blacks due to injury: Angus Ta’avao, Ethan Blackadder, Cullen Grace, David Havili, Joe Moody, George Bower, Patrick Tuipulotu, Quinn Tupaea, Sevu Reece and TJ Perenara. In rugby league: Wayne Bennett has got his man, so expect an announcement pretty soon: Bulldogs centre Jake Averillo is Dolphins-bound to bolster their outside back stocks. It’s another good pick-up for the Dolphins, as they have already landed standout Brisbane outside back Herbie Farnsworth to add some extra pace and flair to their backline next season. Meanwhile, Cowboys Head Coach Todd Payten has hosed down suggestions the Club is interested in Luke Brooks to replace Chad Townsend. Townsend has been linked to the Super League despite being contracted to the Cowboys until the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Brooks knocked back Wests Tigers’ extension offer to test his value on the open market — which fuelled rumours that he could sign with the Cowboys. But Payten told reporters on Thursday that the rumours were simply not true. In the NBA: In 1992, the first superstar-laden US Men’s Olympic basketball team — which became known as the “Dream Team” — went to Barcelona and dominated their way to a gold medal. That dazzling display would echo through the decades to inspire a generation of hoops hopefuls, and not just Americans. At the time, Dirk Nowitzki in Germany was 14 years old, Pau Gasol in Spain was 12, and Tony Parker in France was 11. The three Europeans went on to cumulatively appear in 20 All-Star games and win seven NBA Championships. This year, all three will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. “Tony Parker, a young boy growing up in France, probably otherwise would’ve gone on to play professional soccer,” NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum says. “But because he saw Michael Jordan play basketball, that inspired him, and he decided to bounce a ball instead of kick it.” This season’s MVP is from Cameroon, the Finals MVP is from Serbia, and the can’t-miss, once-in-a-generation talent set to be selected first overall in Thursday’s NBA Draft is from France. The NBA is enjoying its biggest international moment since the process of conquering the world began in earnest that summer in 1992. When that Dream Team was making history, 21 international players from 18 countries were on NBA rosters. By opening night this season, there were a record 120 players from 41 countries. Ola, Ola, Bula and Welcome to Season 05 Episode 75 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a warm and drizzly Sunday morning 18 June 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby: The Chiefs will host the Super Rugby Pacific grand final after beating the Brumbies 6-19 in Hamilton last night. Chiefs star Damien McKenzie scored 14 points from four penalties and a conversion, with All Blacks lock Brodie Retalick scoring the winning try in the 78th minute. Meanwhile, Blues fans have just stopped crying, 48 hours after their team was hammered 52-15 by the Crusaders in Christchurch. In rugby league: The Storm beat Wests Tigers 6-28 in Campbelltown Stadium yesterday, in a game which featured the rarest of tries; Wests Tigers prop Alex Twal finally breaking one of the longest try ducks in the NRL, crossing for his first try in his 116-game career. Parramatta meanwhile, was upset 30-34 by Manly in Round 3, but Eels skipper, Clint Gutherson said his forwards kept their receipts in a bid to square the ledger and even up the season series, and they did; climbing all over Manly 4-34 at CommBank Stadium last night, and into the top eight. In Football and SportsBiz: Deloitte’s annual soccer finance review reveals that total revenue from the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 grew by 10% to US$18.8Billion during the 2021-22 season. But believe it or not, they still made a collective loss of US$353.8Million due to increased wages. Unsurprisingly, the EPL was Europe’s best performer, growing income by 12% for a record aggregate revenue of US$6.99B, but operating profits of US$585M were actually down $1.3M from the previous season. La Liga was second in total revenue, at about half of the EPL, at US$3.6B. The Bundesliga followed with US$3.4B in revenue. Italian Serie A Clubs brought in $2.6B, a decrease of 7%, while Ligue 1 saw record revenue of $2.2B in Lionel Messi’s first of two seasons at Paris St. Germain. And in boxing: Tim Tszyu delivered the biggest statement of his career on the Gold Coast today, demolishing Mexican Carlos Ocampo with a staggering knockout in the first-round. Ocampo did not land a single punch on the Australian champ, while Tszyu needed just 14 shots before the referee waved things off when Ocampo was knocked down for the second time, his head crashing against the ropes in a sickening finish, just one minute and 11 seconds into the fight. The Mexican star is now 35-3, had only been stopped once in his career before, by unbeaten superstar Errol Spence Jr. The unbeaten Australian is now 23-0, 17 KOs was gambling his upcoming shot at division king, American Jermell Charlo.
