Healing Places of Greece with Dimitris! - Part 3 This week Kiki virtually travels to Greece to interview Greek Tour Operator Dimitris Paschalis about the healing places in Greece.  Dimitris at the world heritage site   Today's Lexi:  Μύθος — Mythos (Myth) Dimitris picking olives Dimitris at a tavern in Delphi In this episode:  In this episode Dimitris gives the history behind the olive tree in Greece.  We learn about some olive varieties including the green and Kalamata olive.  A visit to the archeological site in Delphi will afford you the opportunity to experience a dynamic olive grove producing thousands of olives.  The olive grove of Amfissa is one of the oldest in Greece, the largest continuous one in the Balkans and dates back 3000 years.  It looms the Delphia landscape, extending from Amfissa to the Korintian Sea and from Eratini to Kirra with more than 1 million trees.  Almost 70 percent of them more than 150 years old.  Today, the olive grove is considered a trademark for the Delfian landscape, a site protected by Unesco for its cultural heritage.   We thank Dimitris for sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the natural beauty of Greece, which enhances and nourishes the lives of people on a global level.   Thus, it is truly heartbreaking to note, that recently, much of the country has suffered the siege of destructive and devastating wildfires.  According to the BBC, Greece and Turkey have been battling devastating blazes for weeks as the region suffers its worst heatwave in decades.     Evia, a large island to the north and east of Athens, struggled with two fire fronts which have destroyed thousands of hectares of land, with numerous houses and businesses.   Naturalist and anthropologist experts say that this heavenly seaside village of Evia is considered the whole of Greece in one island.  A unique world, full of natural surroundings, rich vegetation, clear blue waters, therapeutic springs, and cultural heritage.  This extraordinary wellness place needs our help.   There are many organizations and social media sites that are supporting fundraising efforts for the misplaced people of Greece.  Check out this wonderful shopping donation option to offer aid. Healing Places of Greece with Dimitris! - Part 1 This week Kiki virtually travels to Greece to interview Greek Tour Operator Dimitris Paschalis about the healing places in Greece.  Dimitris at Melisanni    Today's Lexi:  Θερμικός — Ther-mikos (Thermal) Melissani   In this episode:  First stop is to one of the most important regions of Greece, the Peloponnesus.  Dimitris will enlighten us on the shrine of Asklepios, and the Epidaurus theatre considered one of the purest masterpieces of Greek architecture and part of the World Heritage Collection.  In ancient times, Epidaurus served as a hospital and a theatre.  The waters of Epidaurus were focused on the cleansing of the patient both in body and soul.   The patient would visit the hospital and be required to take a bath for inner cleanse also known as a Kartharsis.  After the bath, with a clean soul, the patient would go to sleep in the dormitory, or Kimiterion.  It was during the sleeping that the patient would be visited by the god Aschleipius and be told what to do to heal their condition.  Upon waking, the patient would reveal what Aschleipius said to do, and the priest of the sanctuary would interpret and give instructions for healing.  Next stop, Thermopylae, where the world-famous battle took place between the Greek forces and the Spartans.   We learn that Thermopylae is also an important location for visiting the hot springs due to their incredible medicinal value.   Ever hear of Melissani?  You must experience this natural cave that boasts beauty and health!! Kefalonia is the place to go for an experience and view that feels like paradise.
