 You don't have to suffer in silence | DSS41 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:22

In today's episode we discuss suffering in silence. What does that mean, how does that effect you, and others in your life? How does it directly impact your drinking and why it makes justifying a drink that much easier. It's like my grandma used to say, you are only as sick as your secrets. In a culture obsessed with alcohol and accepts drinking to oblivion as the norm it's often easy to think that it's just me who feels this way or that there is something wrong with you! Newsflash there isn't anything wrong with you and you are not the only one! 3 takeaways from the episode today are: When we keep things and feelings hidden we suffer, and in the silence the feelings and the habits associated with the feelings grow and evolve and feel overwhelming When you open up about the choice your making to quit drinking you find out who your real friends are. This is empowering, not the end of your identity because you get to choose how you spend your time and who you spend it with. Choose people who energize you! Finally take this journey in stride it is not pass or fail or a straight line it is ever evolving and development. Freedom from the priority alcohol has had is within your reach!  Letting go and finding freedom | DSS40 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:50

In today's episode I talk about resentments and letting go. It's one of the things I have to actively practice in my own life. When we have a negative relationship with alcohol and use it to numb out feelings or drink at other people or situations out of our control we aren't really experts at letting go and moving forward. We are experts at sitting in it. The good news is that you don't have to and in today's episode I give a few tips on what letting go looks like for me and how I practice it. 3 takeaways from the episode today are: You can sit in the anger until you are all pruny and bitter, or you can learn to let go and ACCEPT that you are not in control of the situation. When we sit with a justified emotion it's dangerous because we will justify our reactions and our coping mechanisms because of the feeling and the excuse that it's justified so it's ok to over drink or eat etc etc. Finally accepting the powerlessness you have in any given situation will actually give you freedom and in return your power over your reactions.  Why can't I control my drinking? | DSS38 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:51

For today's episode I discuss why so many women struggle with thoughts of what's wring with me? Why can't I control my drinking or Why do I have such a hard time cutting down. One thing that IO want you all to know is that you are not alone! Even women who aren't alcoholics have these thoughts periodically! Here are the takeaways from today's episode: You are not alone Don't compare yourself with your friends or coworkers because we never know what really goes on behind closed doors and we never know what other people's relationship with alcohol looks like. We would never shame people for smoking too many cigarettes because we know and accept how addictive nicotine is and if you smoke we know you will be addicted, it's the same with alcohol. If you are having these thoughts of shaming and guilt for having no will power you are not alone, I coach hundreds of women who feel the exact same way. The only way to control your drinking for most people is to not drink at all. If you enjoyed today's episode if you could please leave a 5-star review on the show and let me know what you like best so I can continue to serve you with topics and discussions.  5 lies we tell ourselves about socializing and sobriety | DSS37 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:45

In today's LIVE episode I discuss the 5 lies we tell ourselves about heading out into the world without alcohol. Truth be told it's a mental block we all have when we make a decision to give up booze. Once you shift your thoughts you create space for life beyond the drink. We put so much emphasis on drinking and relaxation it's impossible at first to imagine a life without it. Sure, it's not as easy as it sounds because we have to evaluate our social circles and our relationships when we make the choice to stop drinking. It's easier than you think to get past these lies and myths once we get out there and experience social settings without drinking and each time we succeed we gain confidence in our decisions and we start stepping into our authentic selves Looking for more inspiration? head over to my website www.innovativecoachbrooke.com To sign up for the sober course or download the 10 tips to living alcohol free e book click here: https://linktr.ee/Brooke.collins.coaching (https://linktr.ee/Brooke.collins.coaching) If you're interested in being on the LIVE podcast episode recording meeting email me at lifecoachbrooke@gmail.com Have a great week!  Relapse is an entire process not a specific event | DSS36 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:50

In today's live episode I talk about Relapse and how it is a process and a journey instead of just an event. For many women, alcoholics and grey area drinkers alike the episode or relapse is the outcome for the process that led to the action of drinking. Like with most things relapse and taking the drink is a CHOICE. A decision was made and it wasn't a knee jerk reaction to something awful. I explain the process in detail: Pain- we perceive pain and our brains immediately want to eliminate the pain and seek pleasure Fantasizing- thinking of taking a drink as a way to avoid the perceived pain, thinking things would be better after a drink Obsession: we become angry and have thoughts like my life would be so much better if..... Craving: Strong memories of the good times and being drunk. Decision: Making the choice to drink Actions: we create our priorities from actions and drinking becomes the main action Guilt and Shame: The cycle of feeling guilty and ashamed from drinking Sobriety: Give up alcohol again These are part of the cycle and a lot of us continue on this Ferris wheel for a long long time. But we don't have to anymore if we don't want to. There is deep work to do to find the root cause of the feelings and this takes time and patience. Anyone is capable of not drinking, but I was told and I believe sobriety is so much more than not drinking. It is Freedom, Serenity and joy. You are worth so much and you can do this! It is much easier with the right support, and I have created the Sober course with the support and community in mind. If you are looking to find the root cause, if you are ready to evaluate your relationship with alcohol and quit drinking this is the plan for you.  The empty space, Feeling the feels without drowning in alcohol | DSS33 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:53

Today I share what I've been struggling with on a personal level. I share my experience of Las Vegas as a Sober person and having compassion for the homeless community, as well as the stress of grieving without numbing the pain with alcohol. My drinking problem began because I refused to feel the sadness and grieve my sisters death. July 3 is her Birthday and is always a little hard for me. If you've lost someone in your life you know the hardest days are birthdays and anniversaries. This is a little different format and definitely my own struggles. I share this so that women can see it's ok to admit we are not ok. We all struggle from time to time and saying it out loud is more helpful than trying to push through it alone.  Tips for travelling Sober with Guest Jeff S | DSS32 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:43

Today's Live episode features tips for traveling when sober. What's the easiest way to do that and how to set yourself up for success with the goals you have set in terms of living alcohol free. I'm Joined by my husband Jeff LMSW and CAADC who gives a little input on some tools to help make traveling without alcohol easier. Plan it, create A, B and C backup plans, travel with someone you know will support you in your sober journey and always do what feels right for you. Vacations are so much fun and when we remove the alcohol from them we actually have so much time to do all the things. Jeff and I are currently traveling with our family to Park City, UT and then onto Vegas. Our culture has become obsessed with alcohol almost to the point of worshiping it. As with anything it's about our choices and the goals we have set for ourselves that help ensure we can live aligned with what feels right and brings joy.  Grey Area Drinking, What is it? | DSS31 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:10

Today's topic is about Grey area drinking and 5 signs you might be struggling with it. So many millions of women fall into this area and really feel trapped by their drinking, suffering silently. When we don't publicly display our negative relationship with drinking the people around us will often tell us we do not have a problem with drinking, and are overthinking. When we really listen to the still small voice inside us, what is it saying? Is it urging you to give up alcohol for good? If you have been in a place where you feel like you cannot get away from alcohol, and you don't want to be drinking this is the episode for you. It's important to note that Grey area drinking is the space in between full blown alcoholism and sparse drinking. It is not alcoholism. The recent surge if women drinking problematically has really opened up dialogue about grey area drinking, and like with anything else, the more we open up and vulnerably share our experiences the more we can help other women do the same!  Recovery is Recovery | DSS30 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:37

We seem to have a great divide on sobriety and what that means. Today I am discussing in my LIVE episode a few different recovery platforms that help people find sobriety. Sobriety and recovery are not a one stop shop, everyone's journey in sobriety is different and that's ok. It's time we all quit shaming one program or the other and focus more on the END RESULT. Sobriety. It may take you years to find what works best for you and that is 100% ok. My purpose is to recover out loud so that I can help as many women possible who are struggling with addiction. I truly believe when we share our experiences we make it ok for everyone else to share theirs, and, when we share recovery we empower others to evaluate their relationship with substances possibly leading to early intervention. If you are looking to enhance your sobriety, or looking into quitting here are links to the platforms I discussed today. There are hundreds of others as well.  The Jumping Point | DSS29 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:01

The Jumping Point is the point where we can spend YEARS deliberating whether or not we should stop drinking. In today's LIVE episode I discuss how we often focus on what we are losing and giving up if we get sober or quit drinking. Instead of focusing on what we will gain or what is waiting for us on the other side of alcohol. It's a game we play for a long time whether or not to jump into the world of sobriety. I hope today's episode helps you find a little more clarity on your Jumping point. Takeaways: You are not alone and you do not have to do this alone. You can choose to see things differently make a list of all the things you want to do in your life over the next 5 years, get really creative and detailed. When you are done look at the list, this is what is waiting for you on the other side of the bottle.  Limiting beliefs around alcohol and celebrations | DSS28 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:50

Today's LIVE episode is all about our limiting beliefs around alcohol and how to shift and reframe them. We as a society use alcohol in every celebration and every failure. It's hard to step away from the norm. When we choose to quit drinking alcohol limiting beliefs will most often times creep back in and hold us back from living joyfully without alcohol. We struggle the most during holidays and birthdays as these are times when most people drink to excess for days on end in celebration mode. I show my mastermind group in this episode what limiting beliefs hold us back the most and how to reframe them and accept our new beliefs. I also cover tips to make it through a birthday or party sober. Whether you are a grey area drinker, progressed to alcoholism or looking to liver alcohol free for health reasons this episode is for you! I always love a good inventory and this is a form of how I ask myself questions and get to the bottom of why I am doing something and how it will impact my life.
