Looping the thoughts and memories that do not serve you keep you sick. It can be hard to come to terms with the fact that the same defense mechanisms that kept you safe are now keeping you sick. It's so much easier to stay in our comfort zones, what we know, what e can predict even if it is harming us and causing anxiety, panic, and obsessive ruminating thoughts. So how do we break free from this trauma response? How do we stop the looping? That's a tricky question to answer because this is most definitely not a one size fits all way of healing but hopefully, these help you guys step into a more peaceful headspace. Here are a few tips on how to do just that! Distract yourself, clean, move your body, call a friend, meditate Plan some type of action Take action one looping thought at a time Question your thoughts and get curious about them Understand your triggers Try therapy create changes in your lifestyle. Be proactive, find a solid support system, set your own expectations. Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.  Am I a problem drinker? | DSS43 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:54

In today's episode I discuss how to ask if you are a problem drinker, heavy drinker or grey area drinker? Often times we allow denial to veil our "issue" because of fear of being or becoming and addict. The social stigma of addiction hinders our abilities to even evaluate our relationship with alcohol because we feel shame even thinking about it. So if you feel there is an "issue" whether or not it's addiction this episode is for you. Here are 3 takeaways: Get honest with yourself about how you feel about your drinking and what effects it is having on you. Look closely at the thoughts you are having on an evening you choose not to drink. See if you are forcing yourself not to grab that glass and pour a drink. This is important because as your relationship with alcohol becomes more dependent you will struggle more and more with moderating or abstaining. I give you guys 10 questions to ask yourself to see if you are a problem drinker, remember this is for YOU, it is not submitted to anyone so please be honest here. The only person you hurt by not answering truthfully is you.  Catch 22 the Confidence piece | DSS42 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:14

In today's episode I'm discussing confidence, self esteem and it's role in our relationships with alcohol. Most of us drink because of the despair and overwhelm we feel and the frustration we feel with our inability to handle life's problems. It's necessary we look inward and really start to like ourselves so we feel confident in our decisions and our choices. Without confidence we can't make the change and gain control over our relationship with drinking. Here are 3 takeaways: The biggest game changer for all of us is recognizing that our thoughts and the way we think about things can change everything. You no longer have to continually pay for your past mistakes, we can change the way we think about it instead of punishing ourselves for it. Recognizing that we have the power to overcome dependency on alcohol, and regain control of our lives again.
