Colts Cast: Brief 2019 AFC South predictions; Matt Danely says farewell | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3275

Occasionally, times change for all of us where we must end one phase of our lives and fully gear ourselves to either another chapter, or the rest of what exists in our day to day lives. Today is one of those days.  After covering the Indianapolis Colts for more than 8 years, our host and Stampede Blue senior writer, Matt Danely, will be stepping away from writing and podcasting. Today, Matt will be giving his outlook on the 2019 season for the AFC South and give a brief prediction on how the division will shake out in the upcoming season, but he'll also be chronicling his time in this business as well.  This is not your typical episode in which Matt doesn't really filter much and speaks freely, so be advised for such content.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Discussing Howard Mudd's impact on Colts' OL; Latest Colts news | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3968

As the Indianapolis Colts kick off OTAs we'll begin to see little bits and pieces of how this team will come together in the coming season. Today, Zach Hicks joins Matt Danely to discuss Howard Mudd, his relationship with Chris Strausser, and their impact and technique that will shape the team's offensive line. Mudd and Strausser, have a past, their philosophies go hand in hand, and there should be great deal of interest in how different the approach to their blocking schemes will take hold with this unit. Last season the Colts' OL was not only a surprise to most onlookers and fans alike, but they were quietly one of the best units in all of football as well. The team moved on from Dave Deguglielmo despite their success, but they have quite literally acquired two legends in their own rite to take the reins of this athletic and disciplined group of blockers. Zach discusses how Braden Smith should fare in his second year at RT, attempt to figure out if he'll improve or struggle to find his way with a new approach, and the two talk about the rest of the line as well as they feel the depth has improved along with the coaching along the position. Additionally, Matt and Zach speak to the latest Colts' news as well including, some of the latest discussion surrounding OTAs, the Colts' tight end room and its viability in 2019, as well as why the signing of Chad Kelly isn't anything to get worked up about in any way, and some discussion into the Colts' ability to retain their players as well as their front office talent into the future.  Colts Cast: Colts touting a top-3 offense in 2019?; Derek Ciapala interviews Matt Danely | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2648

It appears that we've hit the dreaded dead zone in the NFL schedule. The Colts have held their rookie mini camp, and there are additional activities in the offseason period where we'll have some substance, but we're closing in quickly on the quietest part of the year.  On today's show, Matt Danely will discuss some of the Indianapolis Colts' latest news including a recent story from Chris Wesseling where he's ranked/graded what he defines as the league's top-10 offenses for the 2019 season. Matt follows Chris' logic, and adds his own two cents. Additionally, we sort of turn the tides on the show as Derek Ciapala interviews Matt and gets into the receiving corps, how the work that Chris Ballard and Frank Reich has been so seamless, Andrew Luck's continued progression, the improvement of the speed, youth and talent to the defense and much more.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Discussing secondary post-draft with Zach Hicks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2953

As we know the Indianapolis Colts went heavy on the defense in the 2019 NFL Draft. Today Stampede Blue's own Zach Hick joins Matt Danely to discuss the secondary in particular, and how the group looks post-draft for the 2019 season. The drafting of Rock Ya-Sin, Marvell Tell, and Khari Willis will add to a very intriguing secondary that needed to improve on some very key aspects of their collective game. While the group were stingy in terms of giving up big plays to opposing offenses in 2018, they also gave up better than a 70 percent completion rate in the same breath.  The group needs to become more physical, and become a larger play-making unit in general to take that next step towards having a complete defense. Can Ya-Sin, Tell and Willis make that sort of impact for this group? Naturally, Matt and Zach deviate to other topics surrounding the Colts draft, but the Colts look to have made improvements at all three levels of the defense and we'll dive into the front seven later in the week as well.  Horseshoes with Holder: Best and worst picks of Colts' draft; Examining Colts' new-look roster | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2655

The Indianapolis Colts have boosted their roster after hauling in 10 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. Chris Ballard looks to have made the most out of an interesting set of prospects, and has focused on getting the team real depth and is working towards evening each side of the ball. Today Stephen Holder, of The Athletic, is back with another show to discuss why there's even more reason for optimism with the team heading into the 2019 season after this haul. Here's a brief rundown of today's topics. - Who are the best and worst from the Colts 2019 class? - Parris Campbell is an interesting and valuable addition - Campbell becomes another chess piece in Frank Reich's system - 2019 personnel groupings should be very intriguing  - Chris Ballard and Frank Reich are in lock-step - Marvell Tell may be the most interesting pick - Initial transition could take some time for Tell - Why Tell's transition isn't the same as T.J. Green's - Could Bobby Okereke's ceiling be the highest of all the Colts' picks? - Colts' LB corps could be outstanding in 2019 - Could Okereke supplant Anthony Walker at the MIKE? - Competition at WR may be intense in camp - Deon Cain coming back the same as in camp after ACL isn't a given - Colts lost some of their bulk trading away Hassan Ridgeway, but for a reason - Ballard's affinity for team captains - Ballard's ability to collect picks for following year's draft - Comp picks have become a vital part of the Colts' team building strategy Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Colts' 2019 draft class recap; AFC South opponent's draft classes revisited | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2213

The Indianapolis Colts didn't make their first round selection to open up the 2019 NFL Draft, but they sure did make a ton of selections afterwards. In all the Colts made 10 picks, several via simple trade of picks, one to trade away Hassan Ridgeway, of which 7 were made on the defensive side of the ball. Chris Ballard showed us what he values most through the draft process as a result. He LOVES him some athletes, Senior Bowl performances, and that he's searching out high-character talents who can help create this culture through the locker room as well as on the field. Today we'll go through each of the Colts' picks, discuss where they will play, how they'll strengthen the roster, as well as how Ballard's process could build a true Super Bowl contender in time for the 2020 season.  We also take a look at the rest of the AFC South. We'll take a brief overview of the rest of the division, their picks, and how it could impact the Colts in the near future. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Colts Cast: Colts trade out of first round; What's left early in round 2?; First round recap | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1637

The Indianapolis Colts came into the first round with a pick slotted at No. 26, and left Thursday night without using it. Day 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft came with a few surprises, but the Colts trading back wasn't really one of them.  On the other hand, the discussion of whether or not Chris Ballard received enough compensation for that No. 26 overall selection is worth having. Additionally, we saw the opposition in the AFC South improve, especially defensively, and the Colts still have the No. 2 pick in the second round to upgrade wherever they'd like to on Friday. The Colts hold the 34th, 46th, and 59th pick in the second round and Ballard cautions Colts fans in his post-draft presser with "We may not be done." Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Discussing Zach Hicks' Top-200 big board, Colts fits through sweet spot of 2019 NFL Draft | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3735

The 2019 NFL Draft is just hours away from kicking off in Nashville as we speak. The Indianapolis Colts sit at No. 26 as their first round selection, and will have three Day 2 picks as well to find the meat of their draft haul this year.  Our own Zach Hicks has put together his top-200 big board of this pool of prospects, and today we're going to dive into it to see what's there for the Colts as they move through the early stages of the draft.  We get into top-tier prospects who could still be available at 26, which positions would be best suited for these early picks in the first two days, which positions we might avoid through three rounds and much more. We'll cross reference the Stampede Blue draft guide for the sake of comparison as well where we begin to discuss the skill positions and their need within the Colts' roster.  Zach and Matt look at those who may have missed the list, those who are considerably further down on Zach's list than others around the draft community as well as where the sweet spot of this year's class lies. The conversation varies throughout today's show, but there's a lot of great back and forth in this one.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Colts Cast: Analyzing Colts 2019 schedule reveal; Colts go bold in SB Nation mock draft | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2602

If there was a draft in which the Indianapolis Colts were to really need another successful pull, this is it. The Colts sit at No. 26 -- at the moment -- and while they may not be in line for a top-10 talent, there is certainly some great options at the bottom of the first round.  Today, we'll take a look at the SB Nation mock draft which incorporates a representative from each of the NFL sites tasked with making their team's selection. Our own Brett Mock takes his shot on the talent that he feels best fits the Colts' needs for the long-term, as well as a talent-focused approach in hopes of making the team's first pick shine going forward. We'll look at each pick leading up to Brett's decision, then analyze the pick from both an optimistic and pessimistic aspect.  Additionally, the Colts' 2019 schedule was revealed Wednesday night. We knew their opponents, but how those teams fall on their schedule, the team's bye week, home and road games, and how the time slots fall will all be critical to the Colts' success in the upcoming season.  This could be a very interesting year with Frank Reich attempting to bypass any sophomore slump with his gameplanning, the roster dodging any serious injuries, meshing new additions with veterans and getting the most out of their youth as they did in 2018. We've got a lot to discuss, and the opinions are sure to lay at both ends of the spectrum for both of our main topics for today's show. Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Monday Mock Draft review; Latest Colts news; Colts largest needs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2160

Today we dig back in to the Indianapolis Colts' approach to the 2019 NFL Draft. With less than two weeks to pass before we see Chris Ballard's third pull as GM, there are still very differing views on where the team will go with their first selection. Looking around at the litany of mock drafts from various analysts (via Colts.com) we see so many going in one particular direction. However, this specific position doesn't seem to fit Ballard's approach. On the other hand, perhaps the second-most common pick is precisely what the Colts should be targeting and fits not only the needs of the team, but the roster building process laid out by Ballard since his time in Indy begun. What gets interesting is when we start to see those picks pop up which fit a direct need, fit the philosophy, but don't appear to be gaining much traction with the draft community. Many consecutive years the draft community has pegged the Colts in dire need of a pass rush.  Granted, the current roster has gotten some help through the past draft as well as recent free agent acquisitions, but a dominant, young force at the position is still very much a need one way or another. Yet, very few are handing the Colts defensive ends in their recent mocks. We also touch on the latest Colts news, speak briefly on the current state of the roster, and discuss how the Colts may approach their first three selections this year.
