Colts Cast: Examining Colts Week 7 AFCS win, recent success; Listener call-ins | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2899

The Indianapolis Colts have gone from an unknown commodity to being considered a force in the AFC in just a matter of a few weeks. They took out the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, and followed that up with a huge victory over AFC South foes, the Houston Texans. Jacoby Brissett, and the Colts offense, has appeared to be reliant on their running game for success, but after a career game in passing yardage and touchdowns, there seems to be a larger trust factor being given to the Colts' signal caller. Head coach Frank Reich has shown that his trust in Brissett has not wavered, and the roster looks to be in lock-step with their play-caller. The team's defense has also shown up the past two games. The return of Darius Leonard proved to be valuable in his ability to disrupt the Texans' offense, and give the defense a little extra confidence heading into their pivotal Week 7 AFC South matchup as well. On today's show, Chris Blystone joins Matt Danely as the two discuss the Colts' recent success, plenty about Brissett and his ability, how the defense deserves more credit for Sunday's victory than they're probably being given, the remainder of the Colts schedule, what may be the issue with Deon Cain failing to really make an impact, and much more. Additionally, Matt and Chris take a couple listener call-ins to get their take on the team and how they feel the Colts are doing right now. We didn't get a lot of calls, but we hope to do a call-in show weekly from here on out and hope that our great Stampede Blue community will participate as they did last season.  Colts Cast: Colts need Week 7 vs Houston to set tone for remainder of season | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2151

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off of their bye week following a huge road victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. Oddly enough, the Houston Texans are coming off a road win against the Chiefs as well. If there's a game this season that the Colts need to set the tone for the remainder of their year, it's Week 7 when they host the Texans in a major AFC South battle. The Colts and Texans are strangely similar in terms of success, and the lack thereof on either side of the ball. Their respective offenses are both rated in the top 10 of the league, despite being completely different in nature, and their defenses are both pretty bad in terms of overall success as well according to drive success rates Football Outsiders. The Texans are still riding high off of their win in Arrowhead, but the Colts have had some time to come down after theirs due to their bye week. The Colts are going to have to find a way to replace their pass rush that was boosted by Kemoko Turay, otherwise we could see Deshaun Watson running wild if the Colts use more of a man-to-man look to shut down the Texans' receivers. This game has a lot to look forward to. Can the Colts limit the impact that guys like J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus have on the offense, and can the return of Darius Leonard give the Colts' defense the spark they so desperately needed as they hit the home stretch of the season? Frank Reich will have his hands full designing a game plan for a dangerous Texans' secondary, and Matt Eberflus will need to follow up his game against the Chiefs with possibly an even better performance from his defense against this Texans' offense.  Colts Cast: Examining what Jacoby Brissett is to the Colts; Updated Colts PFF grades | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2657

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off of their most impressive win of the season by far, and it just so happens that their quarterback didn't clear 200 passing yards and didn't throw a touchdown. But, does that really describe how Jacoby Brissett has played thus far in the year? Does it mean that he didn't have a good game simply because his statistics in Week 5 weren't spectacular? There are differing opinions on Brissett through the first five weeks of the season. He's not the top-5 QB that Andrew Luck was entering this season before he retired. He's also not the same quarterback we saw play most of the season in 2017 either.  So, what is Brissett? Today, Matt goes into what he sees in the Colts' starting quarterback. What sort of season is he on pace for this year? Who is he to this offense, and does he have another "it" factor as opposed to having it on the field? There are a lot of questions surrounding the QB. Several analysts are trying to nail down exactly what level Brissett will sit at the rest of the year, and into the future. Well, Matt takes his shot at it today. Additionally, Matt goes through the updated PFF grades for the Colts through Week 5. A few have become risers on the analytical site, while at other positions, there are multiple players seeing exactly what a slippery slope looks like.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Colts' defense comes alive in 19-13 road win over Chiefs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2193

The Indianapolis Colts had no chance to take a Week 5 win at Arrowhead against the Kansas City Chiefs. Nationally, locally, anywhere. Except that they did, and they executed the perfect gameplan to achieve an improbable win.  The Colts' 'feast or famine' pass rush showed up in a major way sacking Patrick Mahomes 4 times and created pressure on him all night long. The running game was as efficient as it's ever been, the offensive line was dominant, and Jacoby Brissett was very good. And if you can believe this, the Colts won by only getting in the end zone once, on the road, against a team that hadn't score fewer than 26 points in two years.  One of the more impressive points on this game, is how the Colts were successful getting out of their typical defensive scheme, how they did so much of their damage with a lot of their top defensive players inactive, and they quite literally dominated a team that spends a lot of their time dominating others. Frank Reich was able to design another winning approach, and despite his modest performance, T.Y. Hilton was a huge factor in this game after being on the injury report all week. Additionally, Marlon Mack, who was also questionable coming into Sunday night's game, may have been the piece the Colts needed the most and he came through in a big way looking as healthy as ever. Sunday's win may have been the best "team" win we've witnessed in a long time for the Colts. Going forward, this may be something that we see quite a bit more of than we did in the Andrew Luck years where so much of the onus was on his shoulders to be great.  On today's show, Matt goes through all of his random thoughts on the game, and also runs through the situational aspect of the matchup through each drive from both teams.  Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Updated PFF Grades; Second quarter predictions w/Jim Campbell | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3144

The Indianapolis Colts did not have much of a showing at all in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders. Their 31-24 loss was worse than the score would indicate, but they've got an even tougher test in Week 5 with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Colts injury concerns haven't lessened as they have a lengthy injury report early on this week as well, and to top it off, they are about as bad as they've been in terms of execution, especially on the defensive side of the ball.  On today's show Matt will go through and analyze the Colts' updated PFF grades through the first quarter of the season to start things off.  The Colts, surprisingly enough, do have some guys who are having really good seasons up to this point including a couple rookies. There's a bit of a surprise with the Colts' tight end group, there's another stud along the offensive line that many have forgotten how good he is, and there is also a few having really poor seasons and are plummeting down the ranks. Additionally, Matt brings back Jim Campbell to discuss the Colts' second quarter of the season after they've started 2-2 through the first four weeks. As we've mentioned, the Chiefs host the Colts on Sunday Night Football, then the team has their bye week in Week 6.  In Week 7 the Colts host the Houston Texans, they host the Denver Broncos in Week 8, then they travel to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9. As it turns out, Matt and Jim have differing ideas of how these next four games will turn out.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Colts Cast: Colts show up late to the party in 31-24 loss to Raiders | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2612

The Indianapolis Colts limped into their Week 4 matchup against the Oakland Raiders as T.Y. Hilton, Darius Leonard and Tyquan Lewis were unable to suit up. But there was far more wrong with the team than injuries in this one. The Colts got behind early and neither side of the ball was doing their respective jobs with any success. The Colts committed penalties with really poor timing, negating positive plays away from the penalty, were manhandled up front on both sides of the ball, and the team simply can't make a play right now. Offensively, the Colts' couldn't hang on to the ball, couldn't stop the Raiders from getting pressure in the backfield, and it probably wasn't Frank Reich's best day as a play-caller either. Defensively, the issues are abundant. Is some of it spotty work out of Matt Eberflus? It's hard to not think he's struggling to find his groove with this group, but the players themselves are shouldering a lot of the blame -- and most of it. They aren't making plays, they're not forcing turnovers, they're not getting pressure on the quarterback, they're not stopping the run... and the list goes on from there. The Colts leave Week 4 sitting at 2-2, with others from the AFC South feeling better with their situations than the Colts should be. Jacksonville is thriving with a rookie late-round quarterback, and the Tennessee Titans blew out the Atlanta Falcons yesterday as well. The Colts will go in to Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs with absolutely no momentum, and we still don't know who will be healthy for that one.  The Colts need to have a great week just to get competitive against a team that grooved them in the playoffs a year ago. The team we saw yesterday won't win many football games this year if health and overall play and execution aren't vastly improved over the next couple weeks. Learn more about your ad choices.
