BSP: Believer Skeptic Podcast

Summary: BSP: Believer Skeptic Podcast is a podcast where two idiots debate the Belief and Skepticism of different phenomena. They will cover topics that fall under different categories such as cryptozoology, the supernatural, spiritualism and more. While sipping Booze or Spirits one host will state the reason he or other people Believe in the chosen topic and the other host will state the reason he or other people are Skeptics. There will be a lot of fun, humor, and sometimes some insightful information (as much as two idiots can provide). Each episode will end with a segment called BS Weekly, in which the hosts each cover one current event or newstory that is scary, interesting, or just plain weird. They are always looking for new topics to cover, so if you have an idea for a future episode, message them, Tweet them, or email them. Happy listening! *Episodes may contain some colorful language, listener discretion is advised.

 Minisode 24 – Me, Myself, and I | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:36

In this week’s minisode, Chris and Cody debate proper pronunciations, and that’s it. Kidding. First, Chris tells a story full of sexual innuendos in which a Reddit user sees himself outside his bedroom. Cody’s then tells of famous German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (a name Cody still can’t pronounce) and his strange encounter with a fancy lad in gay clothes.

Episode 41 – The Voodoo That You Do | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:37

In this episode, Chris and Cody educate themselves (and our listeners!) on the religion of Voodoo. In the longest history (of the podcast series) they dispel some of the common myths associated with Voodoo and differentiate it from Hoodoo. Then, Cody’s first story delves into a specific type of witch known as a Bokur and the creation of Voodoo zombies (that are VERY different than what you think). Chris’s story is about a supposed curse on the small Louisiana town of Frenier. Cody then talks about Clarvius Narcisse and his years as an actual zombie (you have to listen to this story to believe it!). This week’s drinks are are Voodoo Ranger and Biltmore Blonde. Chris’s story is about one of New Orleans most famous residents, Marie Laveau, the famous hairstylist, brothel owner, and priestess. Next week’s topic may be a little easier to guess from this, but it’s super fun nonetheless.

In this episode, Cody and Chris bring it on home, so to speak. Also literally: They discuss tales and superstitions from the Southwest. First, Cody dives into the strange occurrence known as The Marfa Lights, a paranormal light show that actually exists! Chris then discusses a world-wide superstition he grew up with in New Mexico: El Mal Ojo. Next, Cody pulls a new story out of his hiney, one about the history and superstition involving horseshoes. Chris’s last story is an urban legend involving a weird life-like mannequin with the world’s scariest fingernails. BS Weekly is about an city in Australia that wants to start a curfew...for cats.  Minisode 22 – Converse and Candy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:05

In this week’s minisode, Chris and Cody hint (as usual) about the upcoming episode. First, Chris tells a weird story about a non-existent river in Arizona that holds a strange mystery wearing cool shoes. Cody then tells the tale of a woman known as the Candy Lady, who left sweets on kids’ windowsills before stealing them away forever. See if you can guess next week's theme from this. It's trickier this time!

 Episode 39 – POTUS Paranormal | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:22

It’s Presidents Day, the day everyone remembers! In this episode, Cody and Chris share supernatural tales involving past American presidents. Cody starts things off with a plethora of hauntings in the white house, while Chris talks about Abe Lincoln’s strange clairvoyance. Next, Cody discusses President Roosevelt and his “real” tale involving Bigfoot. Finally, Chris tells of Andrew Johnson and the vampires. You read that right. After the stories, Chris gets heated during BS Weekly (you’ll never guess who triggers him again). Drinks this week are The Federalist Red Blend and Liberty Creek Pink Moscato.  Minisode 21 – Paranormal Politics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:32

In this minisode, Cody and Chris tell some strange and subtle stories that have to do with politics and politicians. Chris starts us off with a morality tale about why you should be wary of random Facebook invites.  Episode 38 – Murder By Love | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:47

Happy Valentine’s Day! To celebrate the holiday, Cody and Chris discuss crimes of passion, some of which resulted in hauntings. Cody first discusses the murder at Cherry Hill, named for the place where people lost their virginity...maybe. Chris then talks about an Italian immigrant, Maria Barbella, who takes “lousy lover” matters into her own hands. Cody then tells a different story of passion that may or not have happened ON Valentine’s Day. Chris’s last story is that of Christiana Edmunds, known to some as the Chocolate Cream Killer (*snicker*). This week’s drink is Big Blue Bus-Blueberry Wheat.  Minisode 20 – St. Violent-tine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:46

First, Cody tells the tale of the real St. Valentine, who may or may not have been several people. He also may or may not have a head. Then, Chris talks about Germany's first Internet killer, who suffered from the biggest case of denial this side of Donald Trump. See if you can guess the full Valentine's theme from this minisode.

Episode 37 – Empaths Have All The Feels | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:29

In this episode, Cody gets super triggered talking about psychic empaths. Tune in to hear about what makes these empaths different from “normal” people. Then hear Chris and Cody tell various stories, ranging from a woman who empathizes with a haunted house to a guy who charges hundreds of dollars an hour to empathize with people in order to heal them. Next, Chris provides a really insightful, scientific believer while Cody pulls from experience to debunk the topic. BS Weekly consists of an empath quiz Cody passes with exasperated colors.  Minisode 19 – (Not So) Superpowers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:20

In this minisode, Cody and Chris discuss a certain power (which you have to guess) that annoys the crap out of Cody. Chris’s story tells of a house that contains powers passed on to different family members in a town in California that Chris can’t pronounce. Cody then tells two short stories that give people all the feels. Or take all the feels. You decide.

 Episode 36 – Afterlife Crisis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:15

This more somber episode is dedicated to Perry Johnson, a beloved podcaster who passed away this week. For serious, f*** cancer. Before paying tribute to Perry, Chris and Cody talk about crisis apparitions, those visions or feelings we get from loved ones who have passed or are in danger. First, Cody shares a story about a salon owner who gets a special - and weirdly gray - visit from a man a full day after he dies. Then, Chris takes us back in time with an older story of a deceased jilted lover who visits her family. Cody then talks about the opposite of a crisis apparition. Yep, you read that right. Finally, Chris shares a touching story of an older couple who wants to reunite in the afterlife. Instead of BS Weekly, they discuss favorite memories of Perry. This week’s drinks are a Sunset mocktail and Avalanche amber ale.  Minisode 18 – New Queer’s Resolutions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:05

For the first time, this minisode is completely off the cuff. Chris didn’t write copious amounts of notes, Cody didn’t do any last minute scrounging. Instead, they talk openly and casually about their hopes for the New Year, both personally and for the podcast. So, here is a toast to all our listeners! May the new year bring you blessings, love, and lots of sex (even if you are do-it-your-selfer). NOTE: Cody has no notes for this description. Well said, Chris!

Episode 35 – The Ghost of Christmas Presence | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:08

A very special holiday episode is assaulting your ears this Christmas Eve! In this one, we bring back the tradition of telling Christmas ghost stories. (Yes, it used to be a real tradition! Listen to that one song I’ve forgotten the name of.) First, Cody tells of the ghosts that haunt Hawkhurst Rd in Kent, England ONLY on Christmas Eve. Chris’s first story is about a ghost that may have saved the life of the author from a vicious sink attack. Cody then talks all about Roos Hall, another haunted place in England where a festive carriage driver visits every year. Chris’s second story is a very touching telling of a loved grandma and her rocking chair. Instead of BS Weekly, we tell of holiday traditions from some of our listeners. This week’s drinks are Prancer & Vixen White Zinfandel and Intrinsic Cabernet Sauvignon.  Minisode 17 – What the Dickens | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:26

Welcome to our second holiday minisode. In this one, Cody and Chris continue the cheer by talking about something that used to be popular around Christmas (but isn't anymore). That's all we can say without giving next week's topic away, mwahahaha. Anyway, Cody starts this minisode off with a story about a very special La-Z-Boy (yep). He then tells another tale about a guy who might have had a near death Christmas experience. Chris has a lengthier story that is full of fun, sadness, and cheer...you know, all the things you want in a Christmas story. Listen in and try to guess the topic of next week's episode, dropping on Christmas Eve.
