Our Story – Chapter 1: Love at First Sight | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:44

We’re so excited to share this week’s Our Story series with y’all! Last week, we let you in about our early life, where we came from, what it was like before Jocelyn and I knew each other. This week's chapter is actually about how we met in college at the University of Kentucky. The first time I ever got to talk to Jocelyn was when I was convinced that she was the woman I was going to marry. Chapter highlights * How I won Jocelyn’s love and attention * How I tricked Jocelyn into being my girlfriend. Brace yourselves, things are going to get cheesy and then hilarious… really, really fast. [Tweet ""Don't live a "good enough" life, you don't have to live life planning for the worst case scenario.""] [Tweet ""Choose a mentality of abundance, success, drive -- strive for something more.""] [Tweet ""There is unlimited potential in all of us.""] Our first picture together... ever. Do you see that smile? That smile, my friend, is what true love looks like. Yep... still a better love story than Twilight! LOL. We're broke, but we're happy :-D Shane: "I just met the girl that I'm going to marry. I know it, I don't know how I know it, I don't know when it is going to happen, I don't know what is going to happen, but I just met the girl that I am going to marry."   BONUS TRIVIA: Behold! Shane’s spellbinding cologne! * Gravity: How Shane got Jocelyn's attention... more or less. * Jocelyn was born on March 27th, and I (Shane) was born on March 28th. When I told Jocelyn this, she was understandably skeptical. * We both dreamed of going to the University of Kentucky, both drove a Buick, and had eventually moved to the “Wellness Dorm.” Talk about fate!   If you enjoyed this week’s chapter, let us know in the comments or better yet, leave us an iTunes review. Next week, we’ll talk about our first careers, when we really started pursuing our dreams and I'm going to share the story of my romantic storybook proposal to Jocelyn and how I convinced her to be my bride.  Our Story – Prologue: A Couple of Kids from Kentucky | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:46

What is going on, everybody? We are super excited to start our special podcast series where we'll be giving y'all the juicy details of who we are, where we started, what and how it happened. An author is writing a book about our story and part of that process is recording our story on audio for her to listen to in an interview style format. So, Jocelyn and I were sitting here recording, and thought how this would be a great opportunity to fill in the gaps for everyone listening to our podcast. We want to share our story with you, how two normal people from really, really small rural communities in Kentucky went through life, learned about online business, and ended up creating this amazing life that we didn't even know existed a few years ago, and just let you guys in on that. Highlights of this Prologue * Family background * childhood memories * fun high school days Walk this journey with us, listen to our story, let it inspire you, and know that you can do this too. Jocelyn with her super adorable pigtails :D If you're thinking, "Wait, is this Anna Jo?" The answer is no, this is Jocelyn. If you're thinking, "Pretty sure Jocelyn cloned herself." Well, that theory kinda makes sense, but... LOL :D Shane: Jocelyn was in the band. Jocelyn: I was actually a color guard. Shane: It's the band. Jocelyn: But I didn't play an instrument. Shane: It's the band. Jocelyn: ... Shane: Nothing wrong with the band, I'm cool with the band! BONUS TRIVIA: * Jocelyn is obsessed with computers, and she started with this early 90s computer with 4 MB of RAM & a 256 MB hard drive. Here's an example image and what a 2,400 baud modem looks like. This is waaaaaay before Facebook y'all! Don't judge me! I was the IN thing back in the day! I was pretty rad, myself! You young'uns and your fancy, highspeed internet upgrades! * Although we're saving the college days story for next week, here's a picture of what "Ethel" looked like. This is what the model looked like, memories~ Here are the links to S&J’s Our Story podcast series * Our Story – Prologue: A Couple of Kids from Kentucky * Our Story – Chapter 1: Love at First Sight * Our story – Chapter 2: Welcome to the real world (maybe we should get married?) * Our story – Chapter 3: The worst day of our lives * Our Story – Chapter 4: How a lawnmower and 11 cents changed our lives forever * Our Story – Chapter 5: The Promise Land You can connect with S&J on social media too!

4th Quit-iversary Special: How we flipped our lives & how you CAN too! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:19

5 years ago, we were both working as school teachers, barely getting by and living on someone else's schedule. We were time-pressed parents with no control over our lives. Our greatest journey started with a thought, "We want total control of our lives." That thought led to questions like, "How can we achieve that?" which led us to take action, and THOSE actions later led to our success. It started with creating and selling lesson plans online, which now has evolved to an even bigger calling. It’s been 4 years since we left our nine-to-five jobs. We’re full-time online entrepreneurs serving our online community, all while having the freedom to spend more time with our kids and each other. Our lives have changed for the better because: * We figured out our WHY. * We opened our minds to the possibilities. * We took action AND because we did whatever it took to flip our life. So, to commemorate our 4th quit-iversary, here are 3 of the most important lessons we learned that enabled us to quit our jobs: If kids can do it, you can too! Mindset Shift #1: Real people can do this! Yes, this means YOU! :-) You might think that you’re not enough, or that you don't have what it takes, that you need a PHD to come up with a brilliant idea or need decades of experience to succeed online… THAT IS NOT TRUE. There were other people like us online and they made it work, so why can’t we? I was a 0-10 head coach at one time, and built an online business that sold football playbooks. Jocelyn was a librarian for just 3 years when she sold lesson plans on her website. Don’t let the world dictate what you can and cannot do. Folks working nine-to-five jobs can make money online. Parents can make money online. Retired, empty-nesters can make money online. We believed and took action, that is why we made it. You are more than capable to succeed too! Shane's plan VS Jocelyn's plan Mindset Shift #2: Making money is easier than you think When you’re working for someone else, hard work doesn’t always guarantee your family’s financial security. When you trade in your time for that paycheck, that is time away from your spouse, your kids, and things you’re really passionate about. Which brings us to mindset shift #2, making money is easier than you think! There is ALWAYS a way to make money online. Because: Solving problems = Money Bigger problems solved = More money The only one stopping you from making money online is, well, YOU. #YouCanDoIt write. it. down. then. get. it. done. Mindset Shift #3: We all HAVE the time 60 seconds in a minute. 60 minutes in an hour. 24 hours in a day. 168 hours a week! We all have the same set of time and it’s really up to us HOW we spend it. Prioritize what’s important. What are your non-negotiables? To make it online, you have to be ready to make sacrifices. That means, cutting down on watching TV and even saying no to night out with friends. The time you invest on building your online business today, can spell your success in the future, so you need to decide what stays and what needs to change. Take control of your time, don’t let it control you. We hope you had as much fun learning with us as we have while recording this episode for y'all :-)

FL 157 – We help Cynthia shift from one-off sales to upselling her online ASL resource membership | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:25

Our guest this week is a real inspiration! We’re super excited to help Flip Your Life community member & ASL Resource Developer, Cynthia Long. Cynthia has been married 32 years, a mother of 3 AND grandmother of 3. Her passion in learning ASL began when her son had met a deaf boy in his study group. He said, "Mom, no one is talking to him." It’s how they decided to learn sign language and she became hooked. She loved signing so much that she eventually got a degree in ASL. Because her passion was so strong, she took her board exam fresh off her first year. She was the first in her college to become Nationally Certified and later was the first to be Certified in the school district. After 8 years of interpreting in the school system, she noticed that there were no resources for deaf and hearing impaired kids. This led her to create Sign Baby Sign that was initially meant to teach babies ASL, and has now evolved to supplementing school systems with ASL resource. Their website is now ASLteachingresources.com and continues to expand its content. Cynthia’s website is loaded with content and has generated income mostly from one-off sales. She is looking into turning her online business to lean towards a more sustainable and recurring feature. This brings us to her guest question, “How do I set up my membership site for my niche?” Join us as we help Cynthia pivot from one-off sales to the more passive income generating membership model. After hearing about Shane & Jocelyn, she decided to join the Flip Your Life community and everything else was history.  FL 153 – We help Joe strategize how to offer different product tiers to grow his membership community | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:28

Want to know more about creating product tiers in your membership community? In this episode, we will discuss this strategy with our our Flip Your Life guest member, Joe Muench. Joe is a pharmacist who works in a hospital’s intensive care unit, and has been practicing since 2000. His wife Daphne is an elementary reading teacher and supports him in his online business through brainstorming and doing all the editing. They spent the first year building their audience with their podcast, but didn’t have a product yet. At the end of the first year, he wrote a book, called “A Pharmacist's Guide to Inpatient Medical Emergencies” to teach hospital pharmacists and residents what to do during a "code blue" in the hospital. On September 2016, Joe pre-sold and then launched the beta version of his critical care pharmacy academy - intended as a recurring membership site. The membership successfully launched by December 2016 and has garnered him over 90 members to date. Joe and Daphne are wanting to flip their lives by growing their online academy, so they can have the flexibility to spend more quality time with their two kids. They also want to foster the entrepreneur mindset as the children, ages 9 & 7, have expressed interest and had created websites of their own. Join us as we help Joe decide how to deliver different product levels in order to get more people onboard. We will share our insight on the advantages of using pricing strategies and get a deeper understanding on customer lifetime value. There are huge nuggets of online business wisdom that will help you take your online business to the next level in this episode. Time to get things started!  FL 152 – We help Lynda & Kevin analyze how to turn their healthy cooking website into a membership community | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:46

We are super pumped to introduce you guys to Lynda & Kevin Malleck, our Flip Your Life community members and wonder couplepreneur behind the healthy lifestyle kitchen website - themalleckfamily.com Kevin & Lynda live just outside of Washington, DC in northern Virginia. They have been married for over 17 years and are the parents to a sweet teenage boy named Colin. Lynda’s background originally started in education, but she later shifted her interest to business. Kevin, on the other hand, is an awesome Head Chef, who at some point even managed his own restaurant. Lynda realized that they had to reassess their current lifestyle after her sister had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. They decided that it was time to focus on living a healthier lifestyle and make wiser food  choices. This was when Kevin brilliantly created delicious dishes that were way healthier than their traditional counterparts, and they soon found themselves losing weight almost effortlessly. They documented this transition and had set up a website to host their blog and sell their cookbooks. They had sold paperback versions of their cookbooks and are now looking into generating a steady income stream by offering their digital products as well. They also  want to show Colin the limitless possibilities that online business creates, and encourage him to become an entrepreneur too. Which brings us to the question at hand. What should they focus on to build the business to fit the membership model? We’re going to dive in deep and share insight on how to attract your avatar with your own unique backstory, where to get emails for your email list, how to  overcome brand identity problems and a whole lot more.  FL 151 – We help Kristin create a sustainable, growing online membership community for her coaching site | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:56

How do you start an engaging online membership community where people come and stay month-after-month? That’s what we’re going to be analyzing with you and Kristin today. Joining us on today’s show is a Private Mastermind participant and fellow educator, Kristin Houser. Kristin is currently working and researching as an Elementary School Instructional Coach. She has been in the education scene for about 13 years now, 7 years as a Classroom Teacher and 6 years as an Instructional Coach. She specializes in helping teachers maximize their potential and enable them to improve their way of teaching. During her transition from classroom teacher to instructional coach, she had been searching for content and possibly a community, where she could get the extra boost that could help her in her own coaching journey. Having found little information online, she decided to create a place to provide a solid resource for other coaches that she had wished to have while she was just starting out. Kristin wants to take her 6 years old blog a step and a leap further. More than just making some stable and recurring income, she wants to create a place where these professionals can get together and have a community.
