Live Planted- Practical Vegan Living show

Live Planted- Practical Vegan Living

Summary: Live Planted is a weekly Podcast about living a practical vegan lifestyle. Alyssa, the show's host, is a Midwestern girl who felt the need to create a space based on living a plant based life in the easiest way possible. The show goes into health, wellness, activism, environmentalism, cruelty free practices, sustainability, animal rights, and how to make it all work while living a 'regular' life. Live Planted aims to inspire and educate listeners by letting you in on a little secret: I don't have it all figured out either, but here are some things I've learned along the way. During the show I talk with awesome guests, like former Mtv VJ Lauren Toyota, Cara Livermore of Chickpea Magazine, and Hannah Howlett of 'High Carb Hannah' Youtube fame. The show has hosted vegan artists, tiny house builders, bakers, professional vegan athletes, plant based recipe creators, movie directors, health coaches, dads, and many more. Part of the show is spent breaking down topics like 'soy: good or bad?', 'the realities of fish’, or 'how to travel while vegan'. There'll be ways to go vegan at your own pace, and ways to stay vegan for the long term. Join me in this pursuit to connect with like minded people. You can find the full show notes and more at LivePlanted.com.

#142 Rebelling Against the 'Hustle Everyday' Society- LNTS | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:18:38

It's hard to slow down in a world where sayings like, 'money doesn't sleep,' 'hustle 24/7,' and 'sleep when I'm dead' are the norm. Today's 'Life's Not That Serious' episode focuses on fighting against the 'hustle everyday' society. We validate stress and call it working hard. But what's the toll of this 'hustle'? Life's not that serious that we need to overload ourselves with an ever increasing to-do list and growing self expectations. Today we'll get into why I think this 'get busy' society isn't worth subscribing to and what we can do to combat it even if your life is about as malleable as a brick wall. We're all striving for something but in the internet world the struggle or reality can sometimes get lost. We've all heard the term 'Instagram vs. reality'. So today I thought Celia Ristow of Litterless was the perfect co-host for this episode exposing the reality of what we both still purchase as we work towards making less waste and living more sustainability. The idea of zero waste isn't to deprive yourself to meet some impossible standards, it's to make conscious decisions and do your best when making purchases while staying happy and healthy. Everything from cooking habits, to cleaning and travel, is covered on today's pod. Plus, we answer a few listener questions on zero waste. Enjoy! Today we're covering why as individuals, environmentalists, or people trying to make less waste we should even care where our scraps of rotting food go. Not sure what to put in your composting bin? I got you covered. We're busting the most popular composting myths- stinky piles, attracting critters, and being overly complicated. Marie Kondo, the KonMari, Tidying Up, pop culture queen of decluttering is all about keeping things that spark joy. But where is all that decluttered stuff going? Today we're going to talk about the surge of donations thrift stores are reporting as a result of the Tidying Up craze and the aftermath of all that trash on our planet. I'm going to share some practical tips for consuming less and what I wish Marie Kondo had shared about trash on her show.  #136 Holiday Perfectionism & 3 Word Resolutions for the New Year | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:15:44

During the holidays there is a lot of comparison and perfectionism, this episode will shine some light on how to stress less about it. We're also talking about a 3 word exercise as an alternative to New Year's resolutions. Rather than a traditional resolution, which sometimes sounds like 'be a new person entirely', the 3 word resolution will help incorporate new practices and thoughts that you can grow with over time. All that plus a few questions you can ask yourself to eliminate trash. Hopefully this episode is a nice companion if you're traveling or off this week. Enjoy!  #135 Secondhand & Thrift Shopping for Zero Waste | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:36:29

It may not always be glamorous but secondhand and thrift shopping is a wonderful option for creating less waste. Today I'm talking about the WHY and the HOW of thrift shopping. We'll talk about the marketing of buying (you're being marketed to whether you like it or not), why secondhand shopping is important for the waste stream, and I'll answer all your questions. Everything from bed bugs and sanitizing to buying secondhand animal products as a vegan. I'm even spilling the beans on where I shop and how to get in there and find what you like.  #134 Finding the Hidden Joys of Change w Celia of Litterless | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:28:26

It's a statement I've seen a lot over the years, 'it's hard'. It's even one I've said myself, but making a lifestyle change is a lot more than just a challenge, it can be such a joy. Today I brought in Celia Ristow of Litterless to talk about the joy she finds from being an environmentalist, zero waster, and community activist. Celia shares the flexible approach to creating less waste, a rebellion against the glass jar as a symbol of the zero waste community, and why she dares to look a little different. Plus, we bust the myth that you can't go zero waste because it's expensive and why you don't have to be a pack mule to be prepared when you leave the house.  #133 How to Protect your Mental Health in the Face of the Climate Change Report | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:18:36

After so much confusion and concern about the new climate change report, I decided to break it down in a digestible way on today's episode. Everything from what's actually happening, to what can we do about it, and how to deal with the hopelessness in the face of such dire current events. "Future impacts and risks from climate change are directly tied to decisions made in the present", reads the report. I'll give you three things you can do in the present to protect your mental health and make a difference for our earth. Plus, a listener story of taking action that I was inspired by.  #130 How to Have a More Zero Waste Period w Polly of Green Indy Blog | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:34

It's finally here!! The sustainable period episode I've been wanting to share forever, found it's perfect guest in Polly of Green Indy Blog. As Polly puts it, conversations about menstruation are more than just talking product options, it's about awareness, education, and options. The more we discuss, the more we have language for what's happening, the more we can feel normalized, and educated on what's happening to 50% of the population. The aim of the conversation is to bring awareness to women facing stigmas across the world, as well as share more environmentally friendly product options. PLUS, getting away from the militant idea of what zero waste is and are we justifying the use of plastic with brands like Everlane and Madewell doing 'recycled plastic' clothing lines? Is this a new form of greenwashing going almost undetected in the 'low impact/ zero waste' community? Let's let the conversation flow. Find Polly: http://greenindyblog.com/ instagram.com/greenindyblog/ http://greenindyblog.com/blueprint/ Today’s episode is sponsored by Lena Cup, the reusable menstrual cup that gives you a super-comfortable, low-maintenance, zero-waste period.  #128 How to Avoid Food Waste w Closed-Loop Cooking's Hawnuh Lee & Maia Welbel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:27:50

Hawnuh Lee and Maia Welbel of Closed-Loop Cooking are making food waste interesting. I wanted to bring them on because I think what they are doing, putting in the extra effort to reuse scraps, ferment, and spread the word in their community is downright inspiring. Today we're discussing bringing back 'old fashioned' techniques like fermenting and canning, becoming confident in your improvisational skills so you can create less waste and move away from recipes, and a really awesome way Hawnuh brought food waste awareness to her community.
