Two thousand years ago, God stepped into our world. He revealed His love to us in the form of a baby who would grow up to die on a cross for our sins, Jesus the Son of God. Many people don’t understand the real meaning of Christmas and it has become obscured by the cultural and commercialization of it all. But in today’s message, Pastor Gary explains the Christmas story and how the same God who came into a dirty stable as a baby can also come into the human heart as the Savior!

More than 300 prophecies are written in the Old Testament concerning the first coming of the Messiah. All of them were fulfilled by Jesus. Have you ever wondered why it seems that wicked people prosper and have no difficulties, but people who live for the Lord have adversity and trials? Jeremiah did. He was the target of an assassination plot by his neighbors, friends, and family. He knew what it was to face hardships. But he remained faithful to the Lord despite his trials. How can we face similar difficulties without being overwhelmed by the adversities of life? Pastor Gary takes us through Jeremiah 11-12 to address this subject.

A problem that plagued Israel throughout their history was idolatry. Idolatry is the worship of man-made, hand-carved objects of wood and stone instead of the true and living God. It seems so primitive and senseless to us that people would actually bow down to and worship inanimate objects. Truth is, you don’t have to carve, pray to, or worship something for it to become an idol. Anything that compromises our devotion to God or competes with our affection for God is potentially an idol. An idol is not always something bad itself; it can be a regular thing that becomes an ultimate thing in our lives which we serve with our time, energy, and money. Are there idols in your life that you have elevated above God? Are there things, people, or practices that have stolen your heart and rob God of the glory He is due? Whenever someone begins a sentence with “I don’t mean to brag, but…,” you better get ready for some bragging! People often have the tendency to talk about themselves—who they are, what they’ve accomplished, how successful they’ve become, etc. But we often forget that the Bible teaches that everything we have, everything we are, and everything we’ve accomplished is from the gracious hand of the Lord! In today’s study from Jeremiah 9, Pastor Gary reminds us that if we are going to boast, boast about the Lord. Brag about who He is—that He exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth; that He is personable and knowable; that He is a good God who loves us and rescues us from sin and death.
