Jordan Pease on Swoop’s World Primetime | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:43

On Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 11 am/PDT, 2pm/EDT, we welcome comedian and author Jordan Pease to Swoop’s World Primetime. Join us as we take this opportunity to meet Jordan and find out what makes him so funny. Born and raised in New Jersey into an Italian-American family that has embraced his adult identity (“When I came out to my grandparents, their only comment was that they hoped I married an Italian man”), Pease mines the sometimes painful and more difficult avenues of life in order to fashion self-deprecating jokes that render him equal parts endearing and outrageous. We are sure you'll enjoy getting to know Jordan as much as we will. Feel free to join in on this interactive experience by logging into the chat line. Tune in at Swoopsworld.com. Jordan Pease For most would-be comics, mastering the art of stand-up takes years of hard work. Twenty-two year-old Jordan Pease isn’t afraid of the hard work – but he’s also clearly not afraid of early success. In the time that most young comedians are still struggling to find their own unique identity, Pease has already crafted a career as a stand-up, comic writer, columnist, and personality that might be the envy of someone twice his age. The secret to his early success? Live your life, watch it closely, and make it a joy to share with your audience. “Comedy is my cure-all,” explains Pease, an Italian-American who grew up in New Jersey. Having confronted an early lifetime of pain and disappointment – his father died of substance abuse when Jordan was a teenager, one of many family tragedies – Pease learned early on how to use his comedic instincts to cope with everything. “I was never the person to cry for weeks,” he says. “I’d turn it into a joke and laugh about it, have my family laugh about it.” Drawing on his own family life growing up as well as his experiences as a carefree, gay traveler and observer of life, Pease realized early on as a performer that the key to winning an audience over was having a likeable personality and responding to each audience member. “My big secret is that I picture everyone in the audience as my friends,” he says. “Before the show, after the show, I treat them like my friends…I make eye contact, and I figure, my friends are going to laugh at the same things I do,” admitting that one of his trademarks is something many comics consider a no-no – laughing at his own jokes on stage. “I can’t help it,” he confesses, “I crack myself up.”

The Altar Billies on Swoop’s World Late Night | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:04:57

On Wednesday July 3, 2013 at 8pm/PDT (10pm/CDT, 11pm/EDT) we are happy to welcome The Altar Billies calling in to Swoop’s World Late Night. The Altar Billies are a rockabilly/psychobilly trio that perform the music of the Altar Boys (A punk/rock group from the 80s and early 90s). Join us as we get to know these fellas and their music. Be a part of the conversation by joining in the chatroom or calling in. After our interview with The Altar Billies we’ll be up to all of our usual fun with Brewskis beer tasting segment, TBones Timeout, as well as our take on all topics, and any interesting news stories of the day. We’ll also be simulcast by AM1670 – Dewberry Jam Community Radio – San Antonio, TX. Swoop’s World Late Night is on Wednesday’s from 8pm/PDT – 11pm/PDT tune in at Swoopsworld.com. The Altar Billies Led by Altar Boys front man Mike Stand on geetar and vocals, the group has taken the music of the Altar Boys, stripped it down to its roots, put a twang to it, and a swing that will keep your toes a tapp'n and your fingers snapp'n. Rounding out the line up are Johnny X on upright and Chuck "Wagon" Cummings on the skins. Available for barn dances, hoedowns, revival meet'ns, as a closer, opener, and anything in between, whatever...... So ya'll give us a holler, and we'll come down yer way right lickity split. The first release by Altar Billies is a toe tapp’n hoot-of-holler collection of songs that is sure to put a smile on yer face and a swing in yer step. From the first cut, “Against the Grain,” to the final twang of “The One” this project has more musical twists and turns than the winding roads found on the west side of the Appalachians. Pinning down the exact sound of the Altar Billies is no easy chore: Is it country? Rockabilly? Or a combination of two specific genres that the “Billies” appropriately titled “punktry?” Well, maybe it’s all of the above and more. To be sure, whatever style they happen to “pick at” is not as important as the message they are trying to communicate to every ear that is willing to listen. The Altar Billies are proud to embrace a style of music with such a rich heritage, and fuse it with songs and a message that is as relevant today, as it’s ever been. So strap on yer spurs, pull up the reins, let out a big “Yeeeeee Hawwww” and keep your eyes fixed on the horizon. The Altar Billies are ride’n into town and they’re a “twang’n” and “rock’n” until the cows come home. Take a good look see at their music; it’s a swell sound’n bunch of clatter that you just might take a hankerin to. After our interview with The Altar Billies we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, sports talk, rants and more.

Amanda Raya on Swoop’s World Primetime | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:31

On Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 11 am/PDT, 2pm/EDT, We welcome singer/songwriter Amanda Raya to Swoop’s World Primetime. Amanda is proving that her talent and drive for music belies her age her, and this week released her first fully produced single "Without No Doubt." Tune in as we get to know Amanda and learn about her and her music. For an interactive experience join in by logging into the chat line.Tune in at Swoopsworld.com. Amanda Raya Only 14 years old, Amanda Raya never complains. Even though she can’t see with her eyes like others, she still has more vision than most people ever will. As her mother recalls, “Amanda’s inner strength, curiosity, ability to learn new concepts, letters, and numbers, before the age of two, blew me away, especially given that she was visually impaired”. But there is so much more to Amanda than just this. A pop-songstress who writes her own songs – and can be heard playing piano and guitar in them – Amanda tackles topics well beyond her years, even in her first single, “Without No Doubt”, produced by Ashton Price (Lisa Swain, Kataklysm, Ripped), and mastered at the world famous Lacquer Channel, by Noah Mintz (Peaches, Broken Social Scene, Sarah Slean). As the song’s powerful, but mildly melancholic chorus explains, “I’m telling you without no doubt, I miss you when you’re not around, so baby, tell me please, how you feel” – these are certainly not the pained pleas of your average 14-year-old girl. But then again, Amanda Raya is not your average 14-year-old girl. At the end of the day, Amanda Raya is a sweet, fun-loving girl, just like most others her age. But there is a major difference that separates her from the pack: Amanda has an unparalleled drive for musical success, and the talent to take her there.

Angela Madsen Returns to Swoop’s World Late Night | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:19:44

On Wednesday June 26, 2013 at 8pm/PDT (10pm/CDT, 11pm/EDT) we are happy to welcome back our friend Paralympian Angela Madsen to Swoop’s World Late Night. When we last spoke to Angela she was preparing for her solo row from Santa Cruz, Ca. to Honolulu, Hi. After 7 days in rough seas, high winds, and injury, she was forced to relinquish this attempt. Join us as we take this opportunity to hear Angela's first hand account of what it was like rowing alone on the ocean, what difficulties she faced, and what the future holds for her. After our interview with Angela Madsen we’ll be up to all of our usual fun with Brewskis beer tasting segment, TBones Timeout, as well as our take on all topics, and any interesting news stories of the day. We’ll also be simulcast by AM1670 – Dewberry Jam Community Radio – San Antonio, TX. Swoop’s World Late Night is on Wednesday’s from 8pm/PDT – 11pm/PDT tune in at Swoopsworld.com. Angela Madsen is an accomplished ocean rower with 6 Guinness World Records for rowing oceans. On June 10, 2013 she set out to row a solo ocean rowing boat with no support boat from California to Hawaii. She was to stay on her little boat the entire time, no one to give her any food or water. She needed to have enough provisions on board to sustain her for as long as the journey was to take. Her goal was to row as many hours a day as she possibly could and try not to drift too far off course while asleep. Her quest to attempt the solo row began with the idea followed by logistical planning, purchase, the shipping and outfitting of a solo rowing boat. It became a tribute row to Veterans of all services and to Spirited Adventurer and her friend Orlando Rogers who was tragically killed in a plane crash on May 15th 2011. He was 26 years of age and was a Royal Marine. Orlando was very supportive of Angela and all of her projects and he was very excited about her intentions to do a solo row. It was during the planning for the row that she felt it would be fitting to make that row a tribute to honor his memory. He wanted and planned on being there for Angela as he was on the Circumnavigation of Great Britain. "Though it will not be the same, he will be there with me for every rowing stroke and every nautical mile. Orlando was a very special and amazing person. The name of my boat shall be The Spirit of Orlando" said Angela. After our interview with Angela Madsen we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, sports talk, rants and more.
