Dan Charnitski is General Manager and part owner of the family business that his father began in 1976 with the invention of a hand held heart rate monitor. In 1980 his father Richard Charnitski, a mechanical engineer began design on the VersaClimber. About that time while playing football at Cal State Northridge, Dan changed majors from business to physical education with an emphasis in exercise science and in the meantime visited home occasionally to help test and build the first VersaClimber. In 1982 Dan moved back home and helped his father to start to manufacture and sell the VersaClimber. Between taking classes and finishing up his B.S Degree at Cal State Fullerton Dan drove a VW bus to deliver VersaClimber to gyms. Although Dan’s experience was in exercise science he got quick and potent on the job manufacturing and marketing training guided by his father. So, since 1982 Dan has been working up through the ranks at Heart Rate Inc. He has been involved in the development, manufacturing and marketing of several products for the health, fitness, rehab and sports training markets. And now 33 years later, Heart Rate Inc. is going strong manufacturing in the USA and consistently striving to be a positive influence in the exercise field. Dr. Bryan Mann was hired first as a Graduate Assistant and then promoted to Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Missouri. On top of his duties in the department of Athletic Performance, Mann is also an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. As an Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning, Mann is responsible for assisting with the player development program for football and baseball as well as being responsible for Missouri’s women’s soccer teams. In addition to these team duties, he is also the Director of Research and Development, as well as being the Coordinator for On-Campus Academic Relations. Prior to his arrival at the University of Missouri, Mann attended Southwest Missouri State University where he served as a student assistant as well as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He assisted in the player development of football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and volleyball. He developed the programs for field hockey, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, swimming and diving, and men’s tennis. He also trained 2004 Barbados Olympic triple jumper Greg Hughes. Mann also helped in producing some great achievements for the athletic department at SMSU. These include a Final Four appearance by women’s basketball and a College World Series appearance by baseball. Throughout high school and college, Mann was a four-time national and two-time world champion in powerlifting for the Natural Athlete’s Strength Association and was considered among the top 20 athletes in the world for his age. Mann is also an accomplished author and researcher. He has published three books, most notably “Powerlifting” which was published by Human Kinetics, and numerous journal articles. Mann is most well-known for his research on autoregulation of training with the first athlete training article ever done on the Autoregulatory Progressive Resistance Exercise (APRE) protocol as well as assessment of training improvements. Mann received his degree in Health Promotion from Missouri State University in 2003, a Graduate Certificate in Sports Management from Missouri State University in 2004, a Masters Degree in Health Education and Promotion in 2006 and his PhD in 2011. Dr. Brenda Buffington competed for the University of Pittsburgh in Cross Country and Track & Field for four years.  After earning her Bachelor’s in Education at PITT, she moved on to a Master’s in Exercise Physiology at West Virginia University.  Several years later, Brenda earned a doctoral degree in Higher Education; Leadership and Instruction from Argosy University.  Dr. Buffington’s twenty-six year coaching career was spent in Cross Country and Track & Field; from Middle School through College. In addition, she has been a certified Personal Trainer or a certified Health Fitness Specialist (ACSM) for the past twenty-five years.  Currently, Brenda is the Assistant Director of the United States Air Force Academy’s Human Performance Laboratory in Colorado Springs, CO, where she recently completed a ground breaking research study titled; “An Energy Balance and COPE Intervention with Division I Female Athletes”. A research article is currently under review for publication.  As a result of this research and all of her educational and work related experience, Brenda has created a seminar presentation for athletes; What Every Female Athlete Should Know.
