The Effects of Childhood Trauma in Our Adult Relationships | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:39

Today's episode I talk about childhood trauma and the way it shows up in your adult relationships. Shifting to the idea of reactive violence, and how that is intensified with past trauma victims. I discuss Domestic violence from my experience and what that looked like for me. With all the social media focus on Johnny Depp's defamation case, I thought it was important to shed light on it.  Asking ourselves What if just might be the power move you've been waiting for to live with more joy. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:44

What Happens when we get curious about our "dead ends" When Life doesn't go our way or we don't get that thing we were working toward it's so easy to go to the "why me" and "should've" thoughts. But what if instead we got curious about our lives and our fears and even failures and said What If? What If? What if, I tried this, or what if I went on that trip I have been putting off. When we get curious we dig deeper into what we really want and it specifically with what-if thoughts we can stay present and at the moment let go of control and go with the flow. Surrender... It's the opening question for all of the things we must surrender to. It's an exhausting ride trying to control everything all the time and when we let go we allow life to happen for us, not to us! Try to let go of judgments this week and say what you mean and do what you say, authenticity is important in every facet of our lives for us to truly be happy. Try getting curious this week and let me know how it goes by sending me an email or a DM over on Instagram. Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, myself included, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.  From Autopilot To Self-Awareness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:02:09

In today's episode, I have a very special guest on the show. My former client Anna K joins me to discuss trauma and healing Trauma causes a lot of us to go day to day on autopilot and avoid feeling our emotions. When we start healing we create room to safely grow. As we grow and heal we become more aware of who we truly are underneath it all. It's a beautiful cycle of development and Anna was kind enough to share some of her experiences with us. What it looks like when we ask What instead of why and how to reconnect to yourself after being disconnected Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, myself included, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most. Today’s episode is all about decluttering and it’s effects in your mental health particularly to how it helps with self awareness. I decluttered my closet as part of spring cleaning up and I’m always amazed at how much clearing out the clutter helps my mental health overall. My anxiety and stress decrease and I feel an overall feeling of relief and joy! i find as we become more self aware and do the work decluttering our spaces becomes an opportunity to look at the areas we’re struggling to move through or let go of emotionally. Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, myself included, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.  Self awareness and boundaries | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:48

This episode is raw and personal for me. I discuss challenges with grief, boundaries, having profound conversations, and everything in between. I allowed myself to get vulnerable for this episode because it's important that we as humans start opening up about our struggles as much as we open up about our highlights! I do discuss Boundaries and the benefits of having them in your life, how they are an act of self-love and allow you to be the best version of yourself. In addition, when we have boundaries in place we are able to become self-aware and focus on our needs and feelings. We have to start sitting in the feelings and using words to describe them so that we can better get to know ourselves. Here is the download as promised! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jdwKHrAlOJHquWhPJGPuoZ48gjmPbs1LRuwhv0j7oFA/edit?usp=sharing (Things that happen when you have Boundaries) Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, myself included, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.  Intentional connection with your partners and getting rid of sabotage with My therapist Husband | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:26

Fresh from vacation, today's episode features my husband an LMSW, and I discussing Sabotage and getting intentional about relationships, ours, and how you can get intentional with your relationships. It's vulnerable and raw and I hope some of you can relate. Please send me a DM on IG if you resonate and share your experience with me, or email me at lifecoachbrooke@gmail.com if you are not on Instagram. When you are able to get away from the grind and stress of daily life it's almost impossible not to notice how connected you are to your family and your partner. Today I chat about how to be intentional about keeping that connection for longer than just the vacation by communicating effectively. I ask my therapist husband all kinds of questions on how we sabotage, what he hears in sessions on a large scale, what sabotage is, and how we open communication up between our partners for the better, both for us personally and you guys too! Sometimes getting away allows us to see the cracks that are causing issues to see the whole truth and our role in it so we can hold ourselves accountable for our behavior and, make the changes we need to for ourselves, and our relationships. Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.  Conflict Avoidance: Learning To Heal The War Inside Yourself | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:56

New week, new episode! I am coming to you this week from our family's spring break in Florida! Continuing our highly requested conversation around self-sabotage, today, I am focusing on one area in particular that I have recently found myself trying to navigate: conflict avoidance. Keeping the peace to avoid conflict is a survival strategy we learned in order to create a connection with others. We fear 'rocking the boat' will increase our chance of potential rejection and abandonment, but all we're really doing is increasing the inevitable conflict down the road and abandoning ourselves from forming true connections. This week, I dive into different ways conflict avoidance could be showing up in your life and give you tips on how to recognize your triggers so that you can slow down and begin to explore the conflict-avoidant part of you from within. As you tune in, reflect on this question: What does your conflict-avoidant part want you to know? That's it for today's episode! If you like what you've been hearing today, I encourage you to go to wherever you're listening to this podcast and leave me a review. Tell me what you love about the episode or which episode is your favorite, or you can comment with other topics you want to hear about in the future! And if this is your first time tuning in, I'd love for you to subscribe and hear what other topics we're going to be talking about in the next few weeks. Looking for more inspiration?  Self-Sabotage and What's To Come | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:53

Just a quick update for you guys today as I chat about the direction I'm heading with the podcast based on a lot of messages I've gotten from so many of you, as well as my own personal struggle with the trap of self-sabotage and everything that comes with it. Even though it's a shorter episode, I dig a little bit into how we often tend to get lost in our ability to express or verbalize what we are struggling with and give you tips on how to combat that and learn to lean into your emotions. Stay tuned for some upcoming interviews that I am so excited about and more episodes centered around the topics you guys have been asking for!  Overthinking Will Ruin Your Relationship | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:56

In today's episode, I talk about how overthinking is self-sabotage and ruins your relationships. It's vulnerable and I hope some of you can relate. Please send me a DM on IG if you resonate and share your experience with me, or email me at lifecoachbrooke@gmail.com if you are not on Instagram. We can all overthink at times, but when you are overthinking in a way that you cannot stop and it's causing you to look at every detail of your partner and your relationship it is most definitely time to reign it in. Overthinking itself causes us to try and think of every potential awful thing that could happen to us as a result of this relationship, and if you are looking for problems you will eventually find them. If we desire a happy union we have to hold ourselves accountable for our behavior and, make the changes we need to for ourselves. Love is what makes this human experience worth it. When you can lean into love and go into your relationships with love you will reap the rewards of love like you have always wanted and more. Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.  How to Get Off the Self-Blame Train | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:34

We can't hate ourselves into a version of ourselves we can love. Read that again. Today I am following up on my last episode on self-sabotage and relationships with an episode on self-blame. I get a lot of messages from you guys about your struggles with self-blame, and it's a heavy, heavy way to live. I get it. I've been there. Listen in as I give some tough love on the basis of self-blame and what we gain from it (that's right, we all gain something from certain behaviors, no matter how unhealthy they are), whether it's the illusion of control, repeating patterns in our lives to reaffirm the negative believes we have about ourselves, or because it allows us to stay in victim-mode. Come chat with me and take notes as I talk strategies on how to recognize being stuck in this cycle and how to shift that mindset so you can finally get off the self-blame train. If you find today's podcast resonates or helpful in any way, could you please just take a minute and do one (or all) of these for me? Share the podcast with anyone who you think will benefit from it.  What I am learning about Self Sabotage and Relationship Sabotage | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:20

In today's episode, I talk about what I am currently dealing with in my personal life. It's vulnerable and raw and I hope some of you can relate. Please send me a DM on IG if you resonate and share your experience with me, or email me at lifecoachbrooke@gmail.com if you are not on Instagram. We have to get sick of our behavior sometimes before we are ready to see the whole truth and our role in it so we can hold ourselves accountable for our behavior and, make the changes we need to for ourselves. Sometimes when we are in the cycle we project onto our partner and that's when it takes over your life and creates an uncomfortable space to be. Like everything we try to overcome it takes time to get yourself into a new way of being, change work is hard stuff, but, it's about the journey along the way and what you learn about yourself that matters most.
