Colts Cast: In-depth look at Colts UFAs, NFL free agents heading into 2020 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3137

As the playoffs get into the conference championships this weekend, the Indianapolis Colts are preparing for their evaluation of what they currently have on the roster. Chris Ballard, Frank Reich and their staff will need to assess which impending free agents to bring back, which to let go of, and which ones they see around the league they could bring in to help take the roster to the next level. Today, Matt Danely will go through those unrestricted options for the Colts and parse through which he would bring back into the fold, and which he'd let go of. Not all of them will be easy decisions as Ballard attempts to combine the youth's improvement with those who are necessary retentions due to their veteran leadership and play on the field. Additionally, Matt will touch on a couple extensions that need to be considered, as well as what the rest of the NFL has to offer in the area of free agency. Which positions could be improved with what's likely available, which positions may have to suffer another year in order to make it worth his while to add to the position, and which of those impending free agents may not even be available for the Colts to go out and grab.  Colts Cast: Deciphering Chris Ballard's end of season press conference with Chris Blystone | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4147

As he does at the end of each season, Chris Ballard sat behind a microphone for over an hour to give his thoughts on the Indianapolis Colts 2019 season in review. Ballard, through his own recollections and through the team's local beat writers, was upfront and realistic in his end of the year discussion about the team and how the season turned into a 7-9 result after beginning at 5-2. Ballard spoke, and was honest about Jacoby Brissett, his play, his lack of consistency, and the offense's poor performances throughout the year. He touched on providing the offense, and coaching staff with more weapons, how impressed he was with the offensive line's play, and much more. Ballard also touched on who he felt had very big off-seasons coming up, who he thought was on this roster and was the best at his position in the league, and how he evaluated each position group. Ballard was also quite reflective and honest about what he saw as his failures this year. Taking specific leadership for granted, and putting too much stock in youth at positions that needed a veteran presence was one that he spoke about that really got to him this year. Ballard revealed a lot of his true feelings about his performance along with the team, and Matt Danely and Chris Blystone go through some bullet points of the lengthy press conference and what they felt was warranted, what they agreed with and disagreed with from Ballard.  Colts Cast: A look back at Week 17; Colts latest moves & looking to the future | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2444

The Indianapolis Colts dropped their season finale in Jacksonville similarly to how they've been playing since the midway point of the season. The Colts finished this disappointing season 2-7 down the stretch, and between injuries, poor quarterback play, an unbalanced group of skill position players, and dramatic issues with the special teams unit. As the season has wrapped up and the Colts finish 7-9, Matt talks about several aspects of the team's season today. First, we discuss the Week 17 game briefly, then move on to discussing the difference between the Colts and another team in similar circumstances that was able to get past the injuries and common issues the Colts could not and what it was that got them through those issues. Additionally, we talk about the roster in general, and what holes have opened up this season that were thought to be non-issues heading into the season, or even throughout this troubled year. And finally, we have a conversation about what the team is facing this offseason, a few contract extensions that recently took place, as well as the future contracts the team signed following the official end of their season.  Colts Cast: Colts finish home schedule with big 38-6 blowout of Panthers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2348

The Indianapolis Colts were able to put up a resounding 'W' in their Week 16 matchup with the Carolina Panthers at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday afternoon. Most of the Colts success Sunday was due in large part to the return ability put on display by Nyheim Hines as he was able to return two punts for touchdowns, and another 40 yards to set up a touchdown as well. The Colts defense was good in the red zone, and the offense was able to score on three of their five trips as well. Outside of that, the Colts' passing game was average at best, and filtering out two big runs by Marlon Mack (30 yards) and Jordan Wilkins (38 yards), along with a 24-yard scramble and 37 total rushing yards from Jacoby Brissett, the running game (113 yards at 4.1 YPC) was also pretty average against the worst rushing defense in the league. Chase McLaughlin was 5-of-5 on extra points, and made his only field goal attempt, so it's nice to not be speaking about that as an issue the day after a game, and the Colts special teams in general were very solid collectively. Jack Doyle was punched in the face, the team picked off rookie quarterback Will Grier three times, sacked him five times, and Quenton Nelson was placed in concussion protocol just to name a few of the story lines following the Colts final game in Lucas Oil Stadium for the 2019 season.  Colts Cast: Colts eliminated from playoff picture, embarrassed by Saints on MNF | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2018

The Indianapolis Colts came into their Monday Night Football matchup with the New Orleans Saints with very slim odds to earn a playoff berth. After their performance in the Superdome, it was obvious that the Colts did not deserve to play in the postseason. Thus, with the 34-7 loss, the Colts were eliminated from contention in embarrassing fashion. The Colts were dominated by Drew Brees and the Saints' offense, as he broke Peyton Manning's career touchdown record as well as Philip Rivers' mark for the most accurate game in NFL history with a 97 percent completion rate (29-of-30). Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett and the Colts' offense were never able to get anything started to combat what the Saints were able to do throughout the game. Of their 8 possessions, the Colts punted on 6, turned the ball over on downs once, and were only able to score on their final drive of the game. The Colts were 3 of 12 on third down opportunities, totaled 205 yards on the night, and were only able to get a piece of Brees twice (zero sacks), and also only ran for 46 yards which is considered to be the team's identity. It was ugly. Brissett was inaccurate, and has put truly disgusting back-to-back first halves against the Bucs and Saints (11-of-31), and has yet to prove to Colts' fans that he deserves to be given the keys to the franchise as the team's quarterback of the future. After such a disappointing loss, and performance in general, there will continue to be a lot of questions asked between now and the NFL Draft about how the team can improve to become legitimate playoff, and Super Bowl contenders. It certainly feels like they're further away today than they were at the beginning of the season. The Colts sit at 6-8, and finish the season against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday, then against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17. Learn more about your ad choices.  Colts Cast: Colts face uphill battle in New Orleans on Monday Night Football | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2382

The Indianapolis Colts will have another tall task Monday night when they travel to New Orleans to face the 10-3 Saints on Monday Night Football. The Saints have one of the top scoring offenses in the league, one of the best pass rushes as well, and the bad news for the Colts is that they don't do so well when their opponent possesses such skills. The Colts will be without Kenny Moore, Another issue lies with the Saints being one of the highest passing yardage offenses in the league. The Colts have given up an average of 410 passing yards per game over the last three games, so yeah, that's not an ideal matchup for the Colts either. On the other hand, the Colts are better offensively on third down, and significantly better defensively on third downs. The Colts also hold a sizable advantage in the red zone on both sides of the ball. The Colts have to keep the Saints scoring down as they regularly hit the 30-point mark, however, when they don't when they don't, they have barely gotten into double digits. For the Colts sake, they should hope that Matt Eberflus and Frank Reich can dial up the gameplan the Jaguars, Rams, Cowboys, and Falcons did earlier in the year. In those games, the Saints averaged 10.75 points per game. It may be unlikely the Colts can pull out such a massive win, but there's definitely a chance that they can leave New Orleans with the major upset. Learn more about your ad choices.
