For most of the past 12 months, Gus has emphasized being mindful about your environment and the startling increase in random, public violence. This week in San Jose, a White (Samuel James Cassidy) man orchestrated a well planned terrorist assault where 9 Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority employees were killed. It appears that four of the victims may have been classified as non-white. Reports indicate that the White killer, who worked with the VTA for nearly a decade, allegedly told others that he "hated" work, and it seems he may have targeted specific coworkers. This is only weeks after a White, former FedEx employee, Brandon Hole, shot and killed several workers in Indiana. Gus submits it may be helpful to speak with your employer about workplace safety and potential signs of violence. Olsen is a White man, and a prolific author. He wrote for Sport Illustrated during the turbulent 1960's, and penned a celebrated series examining black athletes and Racism. The magazine also credits Olsen with writing one of the best biographies on boxing icon and attempted counter-racist Muhammad Ali. Last week, Pratt's defense team finally secured an evidentiary hearing. They were concerned that being assigned to Orange County would mean another quit defeat. But Judge Everett W. Dickey surprised them with his "fairness." Stuart Hanlon and Pratt's White defense counsel briefly considered whether it would be best to boot Cochran from the team. They deliberated whether Whites would seek vengeance for the O.J. Also on the Capitol, the House of Representatives approved an investigation into the Terrorist attack on January 6th of this year. It's already anticipated this investigation will be rejected by the White-dominated Senate. In Washington state, educators announced that public schools in the state will no longer use SAT or ACT scores for enrollment. Last week, saw the return of LA prosecuting attorney Gil Garcetti (who's son is now mayor of Los Angeles). We concluded the O.J. Simpson trial with Garcetti insisting the Juice was guilty and got away with murder. This energy greatly influenced the behavior and posturing of Garcetti and the entire district attorney's office. Cochran and the Dream Team triumphed at the end of 1995, Pratt supporters protested and drew attention to the ongoing injustice of the Pratt case. An independent transportation consultant and author, Peterson explores the history of and development of the U.S. highway system. Peterson wrote the books The Transportation Research Board and Planning the Home Front. We'll discuss her more recent project which is a series of reports which examine the deliberate way Whites have used U.S. highways to obliterate areas where black people are allowed to live, work, and attempt to operate businesses. Dr. Bliss and Dr. de Lucas also wrote on this topic, addressing road construction and Racism in Minnesota and Maryland respectively. Dr. Bliss describes how this trauma is personal to her family, where members were displaced with the construction of highways in Michigan.
