LSU football spread the ball around on offense, defense dominated in shutout loss to New Mexico | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2081

LSU shut New Mexico out on Saturday night getting a 38-0 win in Tiger Stadium. The LSU defense held the Lobos to just 88 total yards and two first downs while LSU put up nearly 700 yards of offense themselves. While the Tigers' schedule gets significantly more difficult in the month of October as they take on the Auburn Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, and Florida Gators in consecutive weeks, Brian Kelly's squad has shown significant improvement and much more consistency throughout the first four weeks of the season. First, we saw LSU QB Jayden Daniels spread the ball around and take advantage of LSU's deeply talented WR room. Ten different Tigers caught balls against the Lobos, including WR Jack Bech who Brian Kelly said he wanted to get involved early and often in Week 4. Malik Nabers continues to impress and has emerged as one of Daniels' favorite targets and young guy Chris Hilton continues to get more work and experience in this offense. Plus, the LSU offensive line has finally found some consistency. After switching up the offensive line three times in as many games, they stuck with the same roles in Week 4 as they did the week before, including a sandwich of two true freshman at the left and right tackle positions. LSU continues to make improvements on offense just in time for SEC play. Also, the defense dominated against the Lobos. True freshman Harold Perkins flexed his power and versatility Saturday night and Jarrick Bernard-Converse stepped up big time filling in the safety position, which he hasn't played in years, while several members of the secondary heal from injury.  What LSU's latest NCAA infractions mean for the football program | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2007

The NCAA notified LSU yesterday of the infractions for former LSU offensive line coach James Cregg's violation of recruiting rules in 2020. We still await the ruling from the violations from the men's basketball and football programs (see: "strong a** offer), but these violations pale in comparison. LSU has already self-imposed recruiting restrictions and fines, but the NCAA added a three year show-case for Cregg, which does not affect LSU or it's football program, but it will be placed on a one year probation. What does that mean for LSU? Does this affect the men's basketball and football ruling? Plus, LSU hosts New Mexico on Saturday. The Lobos boast the fourth best turnover rate in the country, including the seven they forced against UTEP earlier this season. How can LSU's offense fare against yet another 3-3-5 defense, like they saw last week against Mississippi State? Will we see some consistency on the offensive line or will Mike Denbrock and Brian Kelly continue to experiment with the line combination? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Jayden Daniels in-game adjustments lead to LSU football's success in second half | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2305

Against two of their top opponents this season, LSU has had an offensive boom in the second half. Against Florida State, when LSU could hardly get anything moving offensively through three quarters, the Tigers marched 75 yards down the field to score in less than two minutes. Against Mississippi State this past weekend, LSU was scoreless until the end of the second quarter and entered the half down 13-7 against Mike Leach's Bulldogs. Then in the second half, the Tigers scored on four of their seven possessions to come back to win 31-16. In both instances, the offense came alive in the second half. But why is that exactly? LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly spoke with the media and highlighted three things that could explain the second half boom, and the first half silence. Between Jayden Daniels' adjustments, offensive tempo changes, and the conditioning that Brian Kelly has boasted about all season long, the Tigers are set up to be a second half team. But is that a trend that will continue throughout the rest of the season, or does LSU just need some time to build chemistry as a team? Also, Locked On LSU host Caroline Fenton hands out her game balls from the Mississippi State game. Who stood out on offense, defense, and special teams? How will LSU improve areas of concern and continue to build upon its strongest units? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  CROSSOVER THURSDAY | LSU hosts New Mexico Lobo's top 15 defense in college football | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1780

New Mexico is ranked in the top 15 in total defense in college football and has forced the fourth most turnovers of any team in the nation. LSU hosts them this week at Tiger Stadium as they take on their second 3-3-5 defense in as many weeks.  Other than the defense that is undeniably good, what else makes New Mexico special? What are their weaknesses? Steve Virgen, assistant sports editor and New Mexico Lobos beat writer for the Albuquerque Journal, joins Caroline Fenton on Locked On LSU to preview the Tigers and Lobos matchup and fill you in on LSU's Week 4 foe. Plus, what does this matchup mean for New Mexico?  LSU DEFEATS MISSISSIPPI STATE | Jayden Daniels shines in second half comeback | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2110

LSU is now 1-0 in SEC play and advances to 2-1 on the season after a 31-16 win over Mississippi State at Tiger Stadium. It wasn't a quick start to the Tigers as they started down 13-0 to Mike Leach and his air raid offense. LSU head coach Brian Kelly referenced the team "shooting themselves in the foot" with three false start penalties on LSU's first two drives and the inability to convert third downs. But in the second half the offense turned it around scoring four times on seven possessions in the second half. But what went wrong to cause the slow start in the first half and how was LSU able to keep themselves in the game? On today's edition of Locked On LSU, Caroline Fenton highlights three good things and three bad things that we saw from the Tigers in their first SEC matchup of the season.  LSU vs. MISSISSIPPI STATE PREVIEW How can Brian Kelly get his first SEC win against Mike Leach's air raid offense? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1828

Saturday we will see Brian Kelly's SEC debut as LSU hosts Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the coaches first meeting, but LSU and MS State know each other all too well. So how can LSU get a win at home and start SEC play with a tally in the win column? For LSU it comes down to three very important things: establishing a run and passing game in a balanced offense, putting pressure on the SEC's leading passer Will Rogers, and playing a clean, fast game from the very beginning. So many of LSU's problems against Florida State started with not getting the passing game going early and not starting strong enough early. If LSU can establish their game plan from the very beginning, they'll be set up for success. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  How difficult is LSU football's schedule the rest of the college football season? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1842

On today's edition of Locked On LSU, host Caroline Fenton takes a look across the SEC at three upcoming opponents on LSU's schedule. How much can we take away from those team's first two weeks and how can we shift our expectations for LSU when that matchup comes? Alabama, Texas A&M, and Florida each had surprising or uncharacteristic performances in Week 2. But were those performances indicative of what is to come for those teams, or was that a one week fluke? Between Alabama's penalties, Texas A&M's stagnant offense vs. Appalachian State, and Florida's loss to Kentucky, what are LSU's in-division foes looking like after the first two weeks of the college football season?  CROSSOVER THURSDAY | How will LSU's offense fare against Mississippi State's 3-3-5 defense? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1724

We are just two days away from Brian Kelly's in-conference coaching debut as Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs make their way to Tiger Stadium for each of the team's first SEC game of the season. To preview the matchup, Clarion Ledger Mississippi State football beat reporter Stefan Krajisnik joins Caroline Fenton and Locked On LSU to break down the strengths and weaknesses of the maroon and white and the expectations for Leach's third year in Starkville. While the Bulldogs' air raid offense and Will Rogers' massive passing yards stat is usually at the forefront of the conversation surrounding this team, Stefan points out that Mississippi State's defense might just be the strongest part of this team. In each of their first two games, against Memphis and Arizona, the defense was able to stop the run and limit a lot of what opposing offenses can do. How will LSU fare against this 3-3-5 unit that is incredibly dynamic and experienced? Also, Mississippi State has yet to face a quarterback as mobile as Jayden Daniels. Is that the key to getting past the Bulldogs D? Plus, Mike Leach has gone 4-7 and 7-6 in his first two years at Mississippi State. Are Bulldogs fans demanding more? What will Leach need to accomplish this year to keep himself off the hot seat? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster.  WE NEED MORE MICAH BASKERVILLE! | LSU vs. Mississippi State preview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2175

On today's edition of Locked On LSU, Caroline Fenton begins by looking back to the game against Southern before we look ahead to the matchup against Mississippi State. Caroline crowns the top player on all sides of the ball: offense, defense, and special teams. Jayden Daniels showed improvement from Week 1, Malik Nabers bounced back from a brutal game against Florida State, and we all got a peak at hidden gem Micah Baskerville's skill set. Plus, Brian Kelly provided personnel updates about two players who we did not see against the Jags that we should expect to see against Mike Leach's Bulldogs. What can we expect from these players who have been out for at least a week, if not longer? How will Brian Kelly fair in his first SEC matchup, especially considering Leach is not a coach he has ever played against before? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  Kayshon Boutte shows off, Garrett Nussmeier needs work | The good & bad from LSU's win over Southern | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2179

LSU football is 1-1 after a MASSIVE 65-17 win over the Southern Jaguars in LSU's home opener and in the Tigers' and Jags' first meeting ever. LSU will face much more robust competition throughout the season and the offensive fireworks we saw from LSU, especially in the first quarter, against Southern should be taken with a grain of salt considering the level of competition. However, there are still good and bad things that can be taken away from the Tigers' home competition with Southern. Overall, that win was the exact confidence boost this LSU team needed going into SEC play against Mississippi State this weekend. There were some changes that needed to be made after LSU's loss to the Florida State Seminoles and it was glaringly obvious. Against Southern, LSU made those changes. There were some shifts on the offensive line and changes in personnel on special teams. The passing game looked more polished (this time it included Kayshon Boutte) and special teams had a great day, forcing a fumble and blocking a punt. But it wasn't all great from LSU on Saturday night, either. While it did not cost LSU the game, penalties and tackling still prove to be an issue for this squad. Caroline Fenton breaks down all of the good and all of the bad we can take away from LSU's first win of the Brian Kelly era. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  KNOW YOUR FOE FRIDAY | How can LSU fans walk away from the Southern game and feel better about the program? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2044

As a fairly young team, growing pains and learning curves are to be expected from the younger members of this LSU football team. Brian Kelly spoke with the media to touch on the college debuts of two LSU offensive players: LT Will Campbell and TE Mason Taylor. What good can we take away from each of their performances against the Florida State Seminoles, and what needs to be improved upon. What is Kelly, Mike Denbrock, and the rest of this offensive coaching staff's plan to allow those players to grow while still doing what is best for the football team to win games? Plus, Malik Nabers' performance on special teams was one of the low lights from LSU vs. Florida State. Will he be the punt returner moving forward? If not him, then who? Finally, LSU should beat Southern; but not all wins are created equally. How can LSU fans step away from this game against Southern and feel better about Brian Kelly, Jayden Daniels, the team's performance and the direction of the program as a whole? Caroline highlights the top three ways that she can step away from LSU's matchup against the Jags and feel better about taking on Mississippi State in Week 3. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  CROSSOVER THURSDAY: a historic matchup between the LSU Tigers and Southern Jags | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2247

The Southern Jaguars and LSU Tigers football teams each play their own respective college football games only twelve miles away from one another. But for the first time ever, these two Baton Rouge-based football teams play under the same lights as Southern heads down I-10 to Tiger Stadium to face the Tigers. Host of Locked On HBCU, Darrion Gray, joins Caroline Fenton and Locked On LSU to preview the in-state matchup. What are Southern's strengths and weaknesses? Southern started their season with a MASSIVE 86-0 win over NAIA opponent Florida Memorial. How will they carry that momentum into Week 2? Can LSU's offensive line progress after an abysmal performance against the Florida State Seminoles in their season opener loss?  What went wrong with LSU football's Kayshon Boutte against Florida State? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2177

There was a good bit of bad in LSU's gutwrenching loss to Florida State on Sunday night, but there was also some good to take away to make you feel better about the team moving forward. On today's edition of Locked On LSU, Caroline Fenton presents the three things she didn't like from the Tigers' matchup with the Seminoles, and three things that she did like. Plus, Kayshon Boutte only caught two of his six targets for 20 yards on Sunday night. That is nowhere near the kind of production that LSU fans expected from their number 7, nor what the rest of the football community expected out of a potential top-5 pick in this year's NFL Draft. So what went wrong? What went right for the rest of the LSU wide receiver core? Also, we'll discuss him scrubbing his Instagram account of all things LSU, what that means for his future and what that means about his relationship with LSU QB Jayden Daniels.  TELL THE TRUTH MONDAY | Brian Kelly was the biggest problem in LSU's heartbreaking loss to Florida State | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2277

It all came down to the very last second. But even recovering a Florida State fumble at the goal line, a 99-yard drive in less than two minutes, and a TD pass in the final moments of the game wasn't enough to come back from three abysmal quarters of football as the LSU Tigers drop their season opener to the Florida State Seminoles 24-23 in New Orleans. LSU started their season opener against Florida State looking sloppy, lethargic, and unprepared. Brian Kelly was hired as LSU's head football coach to right the wrongs of the past head coaches; to make the team clean, energized, and calculated. Brian Kelly did not deliver in his debut as head football coach of the LSU Tigers. Now the question remains: can he turn it around? On today's edition of Locked On LSU, Caroline Fenton breaks down the storylines on offense, defense, and special teams. What went right and what went really, really, REALLY wrong? Is this LSU offense only as good as the offensive line? Should Brian Kelly, Mike Denbrock, and the rest of the coaching staff reevaluate their decision at quarterback? Plus, the defense showed some good but also showed a good bit of bad. Which is the real truth about the Tigers' defense? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!  CROSSOVER THURSDAY | Can LSU take advantage of Florida State's biggest weaknesses? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2402

What are Florida State's biggest strengths and weaknesses? We are just THREE. DAYS. AWAY! from LSU football's season opener against Florida State, so to get you set with all of the Seminoles information you need leading up to gameday, Locked on Noles host, Drake, joins Locked on LSU to break down Florida State football's brightest spots and biggest areas of concern. Two of Florida State's top linebackers, Stephen Dix and Amari Gainer, are out on Sunday. How much will that take a toll on the Noles defense? With injuries on both sides of the ball (WR, OL, LB), does FSU football have enough depth to remain competitive at those positions? Plus, Florida State proved they can spread the ball around in Week 0. With three running backs running for 100+ yds and six different wide receivers recording at least one catch against Duquesne, what will LSU have to do to stop their dynamic offense? How much can we take away from Week 0 considering the Seminoles didn't have robust competition? Are they truly a dynamic offense...or were they just playing Duquesne? Finally, Brian Kelly did not want to name a starting quarterback because it was a "tactical advantage" for LSU to not give away any information that they don't have to. Which is the better tactical advantage: Florida State having a game to knock off first-game jitters, or LSU keeping their game plan close to the chest? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
