 09_What to Take Away | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:00

Because no one has ever seen God, the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, must make Him known to us (Joh 1:18). Through the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, Jesus us shows us how to know and relate to God as Abba, Father, through our woundedness. Welcome Christine, Flavia, and Seabelo, Bible Study Evangelista's newest friends of the show! LOVE the Word™ is a Bible study method based on Mary's own practice: lectio without the Latin. This week’s LOVE the Word™ exercise is according to a Thomistic* personality approach. Listen (Receive the Word.) Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.) Have you entered in your Gethsemane with Jesus? Are you retracing your wounds with Jesus through your predominant fault and other patterns, so that by His stripes, you can be healed? Are you crowning those after you with freedom and healing from generational sin patterns, by seriously making an effort to stop them? Are you carrying the cross of your wounder(s) with Jesus? Have you asked Him where He was in your woundedness? Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) In your journal or on your journal page (get a free page to the right), write down your thoughts and feelings about what you have learned through this series. What's your main takeaway? How has your view of God changed? How has the way you relate to Him changed? What can you say to Him now, that could couldn't before the series began? Entrust (May it be done to me according to your word!) Abba, Father, I commit to growing my relationship to you by... I believe. Help my unbelief! . *LOVE the Word™ exercises vary weekly according to the four personalities, or "prayer forms," explored in Prayer and Temperament, by Chester Michael and Marie Norrisey: Ignatian, Augustinian, Franciscan, and Thomistic. These prayer forms correspond to the Myers-Briggs personality types. Episode Resources Here's the private Facebook discussion page for the Healing the Father Wound series, if you want to join in the conversation with a little more privacy, as I do. What is the Rosary? JPII's Encyclical Letter, Dives in Misericordia, on God as Father References Romans 8:15   For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father!" (CCC 2779) The purification of our hearts has to do with paternal or maternal images, stemming from our personal and cultural history, and influencing our relationship with God. God our Father transcends the categories of the created world. To impose our own ideas in this area "upon him" would be to fabricate idols to adore or pull down. To pray to the Father is to enter into his mystery as he is and as the Son has revealed him to us. In the long road to healing, we will experience with Jesus feelings of darkness, abandonment, and of being left unprotected. Where is God when we cry with Him, "My God, my God, what have you forsaken me?" Welcome Jamie and Stephnie, Bible Study Evangelista's newest friends of the show, and thank you to Rowena, and MaryKatherine, for the extra love and  lift! Study Audio Action Items As you are crucified with Christ: Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary for the graces to be crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20).  04_Abba, Crown Me with These Thorns – Premium Content | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:00

“But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery which they committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me . . . then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land" (Baruch 1:40-42).    Welcome to Margaret; Linda; Valeria; Jennie; Gwen; and Virginia, Bible Study Evangelista's newest friends of the show! Study Audio Action Items As you work your way through the "thorns" of your crown with Jesus: Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary for the thorns of your ancestors and ask that God will make them a crown for you and your descendants. As best you can, identify the generational wounds in your family tree. Confess your own sin patterns and those of your family tree. Take authority over your family, as is your right, your promise, and your inheritance (the "covenant" in the verses above) in Christ. Have a Mass said for the generational wounds in your immediate family and your family tree. Pray this prayer for healing by Fr. John H. Hampsch: Heavenly Father, I come before you as your child, in great need of your help; I have physical health needs, emotional  needs, spiritual needs, and interpersonal needs. Many of my problems have been caused by my own failures, neglect and sinfulness, for which I humbly beg your forgiveness, Lord. But I also ask you to forgive the sins of my ancestors whose failures have left their effects on me in the form of unwanted tendencies, behavior patterns and defects in body, mind, and spirit. Heal me, Lord, of all these disorders. With your help I sincerely forgive everyone, especially living or dead members of my family tree, who have directly offended me or my loved ones in any way, or those whose sins have resulted in our present sufferings and disorders. In the name of your divine Son, Jesus, and in the power of his Holy Spirit, I ask you, Father, to deliver me and my entire family tree from the influence of the evil one. Free all living and dead members of my family tree, including those in adoptive relationships, and those in extended family relationships, from every contaminating form of bondage. By your loving concern for us, heavenly Father, and by the shed blood of your precious Son, Jesus, I beg you to extend your blessing to me and to all my living and deceased relatives. Heal every negative effect transmitted through all past generations, and prevent such negative effects in future generations of my family tree. I symbolically place the cross of Jesus over the head of each person in my family tree, and between each generation; I ask you to let the cleansing blood of Jesus purify the bloodlines in my family lineage. Set your protective angels to encamp around us, and permit Archangel Raphael, the patron of healing, to administer your divine healing power to all of us, even in areas of genetic disability. Give special power to our family members' guardian angels to heal, protect, guide and encourage each of us in all our needs. Let your healing power be released at this very moment, and let it continue as long as your sovereignty permits. In our family tree, Lord, replace all bondage with a holy bonding in family love. And let there be an ever-deeper bonding with you, Lord, by the Holy Spirit, to your Son, Jesus. Let the family of the Holy Trinity pervade our family with its tender, warm, loving presence, so that our family may recognize and manifest that love in all our relationships. All of our unknown needs we include with this petition that we pray in Jesus' precious Name. Amen. + LOVE the Word™ is a Bible study method based on Mary's own practice: lectio without the Latin.  By His Stripes I Am Healed | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:00

"By accepting the sufferings ‘offered’ by life and allowed by God for our progress and purification, we spare ourselves much harder ones. We need to develop this kind of realism and, once and for all, stop dreaming of a life without suffering or conflict. That is the life of heaven, not earth. We must take up our cross and follow Christ courageously every day; the bitterness of that cross will sooner or later be transformed into sweetness" (Fr. Jacques Philippe).   Welcome to Allyson; Ersilia; Heather; Maria; Susan; Robyn; Mary; and Julie, Bible Study Evangelista's newest friends of the show! Study Audio Action Items As you work your way through your "stripes" with Jesus: Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary for your stripes. Identify two or three of your major eruptions from the last couple of years and how they are related to your predominant fault. Connect your eruption(s) to a memory and process that with God in prayer. Ask your guardian angel to alert you to pop quizzes before they overtake you. Practice STOP (Ps 4:4), and talk to God about your pop quizzes. LOVE the Word™ is a Bible study method based on Mary's own practice: lectio without the Latin. This week’s LOVE the Word™ exercise is according to a Franciscan* personality approach. Listen (Receive the Word.) Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.) This week, I'd like you to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary specifically for your predominant fault. As you pray, ask God to reveal ways in which this fault interferes with your spiritual growth and causes destruction in your relationships and circumstances. What provokes your predominant fault? How have your most destructive eruptions been related to particular memories? What are those memories? Have you talked to God about those? Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) In your journal or on your journal page (get a free page to the right), write down your answers, and what you believe the Holy Spirit is saying to you through the mystery of Jesus' Scourging at the Pillar. And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple robe; they came up to him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' and struck him with their hands" (Jn 19:1-3). "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed" (Is 53:5). And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour?" (Mat 26:38-40) Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.) In Catholic tradition, Matthew 26:40 is the basis of the Holy Hour devotion for Eucharistic adoration. The tradition of Holy Hour devotion dates back to 1673 when Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque stated that she had a vision of Jesus in which she was instructed to spend an hour every Thursday night to meditate on the sufferings of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. I'd like you to participate in a holy hour of Adoration this week: "Watch and pray," specifically for your woundedness. Where have you been sleeping through or distracting yourself from your agony? How can you enter into that agony, and give to others out of it, rather than "entering into temptation" to somehow run away from it? Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) In your journal or on your journal page (get a free page to the right), write down your answers, and what you believe the Holy Spirit is saying to you through the mystery of Jesus' Agony in the Garden.  Let’s S-T-O-P the Emotional Vomit | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:00

The new study series, Healing the Father Wound, begins next week, and I am full of excited terror for us both! If you are new to Bible Study Evangelista, a warm welcome to you. Because there are several hundred new sign-ups for the new series, who have probably never heard of the LOVE the Word™ method that we will be using throughout Healing the Father Wound, I am offering the never-before-released talk I gave in May at the National Catholic Bible Conference for you to listen to this week. The LOVE the Word™ journal I use in all my series along with the weekly LOVE the Word™ exercises (below) is available here. A preview is available in the product description (scroll down a little) so you can see its content and instruction guide. If you prefer, you can get a free downloadable page each week to the right. There are tutorials on LOVE the Word™ to the right too. Here's the private Facebook discussion page for the Healing the Father Wound series, if you want to join in the conversation with a little more privacy, as I do. A Special Message I don't want you to be caught off guard, or to feel attacked when it happens, so if you have a wound, expect it to be tweaked within the next several weeks, if it hasn't been already. In my book, Unleashed, I talk about pop quizzes - difficult circumstances that are invitations from God to practice what He's teaching. Because we are talking about the father wound and wounds in general, anticipate that God will offer you a pop quiz, and you will have an encounter with someone who brings up or provokes the feelings associated with your wound. Please try very hard to look beyond the person through whom this experience comes to the invitation beneath it. The experience feels negative because it involves the emotions associated with our wound, but this is a gift, I promise. Spend some time discerning what you feel, the patterns in the emotions, and write down any memories that surface (a free journal page is available to the right). Pop quizzes are a normal, natural, even welcome part of the process (I know, I know!), because they are absolutely necessary to healing. If you want immediate help, get Unleashed and begin reading. Or jump on the Facebook Discussion Group. Otherwise, just hang tight! We will talk about this in depth throughout the series.   Welcome to Gena and Rowena, Bible Study Evangelista's newest friends of the show! Now that we have learned how to LOVE the Word™, we're about to start practicing the method in our new series. The new study begins September 18, but until then, here's a LOVE the Word™ exercise and part one of my talk (audio below) on Healing the Father Wound. Here's the private Facebook discussion page for this series that I mention in the audio, if you want to join in the conversation with a little more privacy as I do. A Special Message Some of us are experiencing anxiety at the anticipation of the Healing the Father Wound study. I confess I, too, am feeling its weight as it approaches, so I am going to share this communication in case it helps as we take deep breaths and prepare for the study. . A listener writes: "Why is it that I forgive or say I forgive my father and I still feel uncomfortable talking to him, I feel like I still have to be perfect for him to show love, why do I need his approval? . The new study is not even started and I'm already crying my eyes out, is bringing up all kinds of feelings, hurts, memories that are so painful to look at, resentments that I thought I already deal with coming to the surface again." . And my partial response: "I don't want you stewing in these awful feelings for weeks before we even begin the study, and longer while we work through it.  07_Entrust, What Is Faith? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:00

Faith cannot simply be belief – in God, or in a set of teachings – for “even the demons believe and tremble” (James 2:19). In this show, we discern what faith is, by looking at what it isn’t. Study Audio LOVE the Word™ is a Bible study method based on Mary's own practice: lectio without the Latin. This week’s LOVE the Word™ exercise is according to a Augustinian* personality approach. Listen (Receive the Word) Hebrews 11:6,  “And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.) Do you really believe God wants to reward you? What do you think He might want to reward you with? Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) Talk to God about the longings of your heart, how you feel about them, and however you feel about Him in relation to those desires. Entrust (May it be done to me according to your word!) Jesus, I believe; help my unbelief! Scripture References Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. But faith is not the absence of logic or reason. Faith lays hold of what the senses and reason cannot. Faith in God is necessary, according to Karol Wojtyła’s (John Paul II) doctoral thesis “Faith in John of the Cross,” because God is pure spirit. There is nothing to see, hear, or sense of God at all unless He makes Himself felt, seen, or heard. Humans receive information through their senses. Since He is pure spirit and therefore beyond sense, He must be received and “reached” through faith. Faith is the ONLY way to lay hold of God. James 2:19, Faith is not simple belief in the existence of God or even in a body of teachings, for even the demons “believe” and tremble. James 1:6-7, Although we are instructed to “ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways, will receive anything from the Lord,” faith is not having faith in the amount or quality of our faith.  Hebrews 11:6,  “And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” God rewards faith with Himself and not necessarily with what we want. The Hall of Fame chapter in Hebrews 11 teaches us that things didn’t always work out the way God’s people wanted, and they don’t always work out the way we want, so faith is not trusting in what we want to happen. Daniel 3:17-18, “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.” Daniel’s friends show us that faith is not trust in our ability to know God’s will.  Faith is not faith in the quality or quantity of our faith or trust in our beliefs. It is not believing what we want to happen will happen. Nor is it trust in our ability to read God’s secret will. Faith, quite simply, is trust in God alone: His timing, His provision, His goodness, His answers to our prayers.  06_Catholic Eschatology in a Nutshell | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:00

"For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains it will do so until He is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by his appearing and his coming" (2 Thess 2:7-8). Amen, and hallelujah! Study Audio LOVE the Word™ is a Bible study method based on Mary's own practice: lectio without the Latin. This week's LOVE the Word™ exercise is based on a Augustinian* personality approach. Go on! Try it! Listen (Receive the Word) "But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word" (2 Thess 2:13-17). Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.) Because this is scripture, the Holy Spirit is saying it directly to you, personally. Which part of this passage strikes you most? To which sentence, phrase, or word is your attention drawn? What is the Lord saying to you through that? Sit with Him a moment and let your mind wander freely as you think on this word, phrase, or sentence. Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) Talk to Him about what you believe He is saying to you about this scripture. What are you thinking and feeling as you re-read St. Paul's words, above? What do you want to say to Him about that? Entrust (May it be done to me according to your word!) "Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." (The Jesus Prayer) . Eschatological Qualification Catholic eschatology is what's called "speculative theology." This designation means little has been defined by the Magisterium concerning the end times, so the subject is open for speculation and development by Catholics seeking truth via Sacred Tradition (history) and Sacred Scripture. I attempt throughout the series to make clear what is public revelation and therefore part of the Deposit of Faith, and what is private revelation and not a matter of adherence. I do not present unapproved private revelation in this series. Scripture References for the Show 2 Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation." 1 Thessalonians 3:15, "That you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth." Episode Resources "In things of faith and morals, the true sense of Holy Scripture is held by the Church, whose place it is to judge the interpretation of the Scriptures (1 Tim 3:15); and it is permitted to no one to interpret Holy Scripture against such sense or against the unanimous agreement of the Fathers'( 34). What can be a greater sign of pride than to refuse to study the Books of the divine mysteries by the help of those who have interpreted them? "But it is most unbecoming to pass by, in ignorance or contempt, the excellent work which Catholics have left in abundance,

01_What to Expect in the End Times | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:00

More than ever before in history, the foundations of human life and civilization seem on the precipice of destruction from every social, moral, cultural, political and economic angle. Only in apocalyptic scripture does the tone equal our own contemporary foreboding about the state of our world; nations; churches; communities; schools; families; and marriages; and how evil and difficult times will get. Global events inspire fear, and what follows for people of faith is often talk of the Second Coming and the prophesies relating to when and how it will happen. But the key to accurately understanding prophecy, as it is to accurately understanding all scripture, is reading with the mind of the whole Church - 2000 years of the history of the Church - as "the pillar and foundation of truth" (1 Tim 3:16). This series is a survey of end times biblical prophecy as interpreted throughout Church history. Study Audio LOVE the Word(TM) is a Bible study method based on Mary's own practice. This week's LOVE the Word(TM) exercise is based on an Ignatian* personality approach. Go on! Try it! Listen (Receive the Word) "Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed,' and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with the drunken, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the hypocrites; there men will weep and gnash their teeth" (Matt 24:45-51). Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.) Using all your senses, try to imagine Jesus coming to your home as the Master of your household the way He says it will happen in this passage. What do you see as He comes to your house? What do you hear? What are your thoughts and feelings as He approaches? What does He find? What does He say to you? What is the faithful servant supposed to be doing in this scenario of Jesus' Second Coming? What is the food He speaks of? What are the rewards and punishments spoken of here? Why is the wicked servant a hypocrite? Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.) What feelings and thoughts arose in your heart and mind as you pondered these questions? What do you want to tell Him about that? Entrust (May it be done to me according to your word!) Jesus, I believe. Help my unbelief (Mark 9:24)! . *LOVE the Word(TM) exercises, vary weekly according to the four personalities, or "prayer forms," explored in Prayer and Temperament, by Chester Michael and Marie Norrisey: Ignatian, Augustinian, Franciscan, and Thomistic. I attempt throughout the series to make clear what is public revelation and therefore part of the Deposit of Faith, and what is approved private revelation and not a matter of adherence. Dr. Scott Hahn most recently put forth the liturgical and historical interpretation of the Book of Revelation without alleging that there is no end times application. Many non-Catholics hold to either this interpretation or an eschatological interpretation; the Church maintains that...

Alleluia... Christ is risen! Don't you love that we get to celebrate for 50 whole days?! Along with the new series coming up, I have been working on something else new for you.
