This weeks show will be an open forum. After our regional roundup, the Chat Room people, TrainFestival 2011 was talked about, AC Adam plays Z train similators, then the NRHS 2011 Tacoma Convention was talked about. Phoneix Gene called about Joe Boardman of Amtrak wanting to be on the show to talk about the 40th Anniversary Train. The Unofficial Hobo called in. Bob & Elizabeth called followed by Keith Schimdt the excellent videographer. Chris explains how he plans the trips he does for Silver Rails Railfan Event and onto Rock Island. We learned Elizabeth is not an early riser. Enjoy this excellent show.  

Bob and Elizabeth will be hosting from the National Train Day Event in Portland, OR.  We will be originating the show from Portland Union Station.  We will start the show with a short tribute to Richard Steinheimer who passsed away on Wednesday.  After that, we will be taking calls from NTD events around the country. The Amazing Chris Guenzler will explain were Amtrak came from---the last day of Public Trains on April 30, 1971, and Amtrak's birth on May 1, 1971. We will also talk about Amtrak's history, from the early days to the present. What caused Amtrak to be formed and the steps that led up to its formation by the Nixon Adminstration. Amtrak has come a long way since May 1st, 1971 and lets hope it with us in the future. Join us for this interesting show!

Topics include Amtrak's new program, following BNSF's idea of railfans being additional eyes-and-ears around the right-of-ways of the country; and we will be catching up on rail news around the country. We'll also talk about a new project that KC Nathan is working on, in the model railroading world of n-scale---which includes a representation of LaPlata, Mo., & SilverRails Country! And we will talk about the preparation for the SilverRails Railfest, as we talk about the preliminary schedule of events in and around SilverRails Country, and what will take place at Trains Festival 2011, in Rock Island, Ill., including the LTT crew hosting live at the events and having live reports around the grounds. The Amazing Chris Guenzler ended the year 2011 on a sad note. We start this trip off with the Sad Trip due to the death of Bruce Guenzler to La Plata, Winterail 2011 and the Filmore & Western Trip were covered. Chris did the PRS 75 Year Excursion Tehachapi and Palmdale Cutoff Trip and then did theCoast Starlight Detour over Altamont Pass and the Tehachapi Loop. This week, the Amazing Chris Guenzler will be hosting this Saturday’s Let’s Talk Trains Show. Steve Sandburg of the Milwaukee Road 261 will join us for two segments--40 minutes--out of their rebuilding schedule to talk,. The second hour we will have Steve Mitchell of Yard Goat Images that produce excellent railroad DVDs. The second hour once we get through the basic questions with Steven,  This will be a very interesting show and you will learn plenty from both of our guests.

Ross Rowland returns to Let's Talk Trains on Saturday. Ross will be talking to Bob and Elizabeth about his upcoming project, the Greenbrier Express luxury train and discussing the CSX policy of no antiques vs the desire to have steam be part of the experience.
