Angela Birchett gave an Oscar worthy performance in Lifetime’s The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel. We caught up with the actress to discuss her background in music, booking the role of Jacky Clark, meeting the real life Jacky in person and her takeaway from this incredible experience. After singing her first solo at her home church: Greater Grace Temple, she knew that she was destined to perform. She spent much of her formative years singing with her sisters in a trio, collectively known as “The Birchett Sisters”. It was in this group that she developed a talent and love for group singing. At 12 years old, Angela was the youngest member of the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra excelling as a percussionist; and at 14, she was cast in her first professional production: a staging of Purlie where she was cast in the role of Missy, effectively making her the youngest cast member, playing one of the oldest characters in the show. Additionally, she was a very active member of the music department at Renaissance High School, under the direction of renowned educator, clinician, and choral director, Nina Scott. After high school, Angela attended Kentucky State University where she double majored in Music Education and Vocal Performance. As a member of the university’s Opera Music Theatre Workshop, Concert, and Show Choirs, she was regularly seen on campus performing in several productions and concerts. While at KSU, Angela had the privilege of once again studying under a renowned musician: the late Andrew Smith and was regularly noticed by legendary soprano, Wilhelmenia Fernandez. Angela also received the prestigious honor of being crowned Miss Kentucky State University and placed third in the Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame pageant in 2000, a first for any reigning KSU queen. Following graduation in 2002, Angela returned to Detroit and established the choral department at the Paul Robeson Academy. In the years following her time there, a number of her former students have also been drawn to the performing arts, pursuing university training and careers in musical theater, music recording, modeling, and acting. Feeling an overwhelming inclination to New York City, she made the leap and transitioned full time to performing in 2005. In her first decade here she established herself as a power house and landed roles regionally and on tours starring in hit shows such as: Dreamgirls, Hairspray, Once on This Island, Rent, Ain't Misbehavin, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, as well as the 2015 Broadway revival and First National Tour of The Color Purple. Angela has also crossed over and declared herself a force to be reckoned with, appearing on television in a variety of shows including: Kevin Can Wait (CBS) and The Blindspot (NBC). In the fall of 2019, Angela will make her feature length debut in You Brought the Sunshine: The Story of the Clark Sisters (Lifetime) where she will tackle the role of Jacky Clark. Angela juggles a very busy performance schedule that includes time spent as a session singer for various artists and jingle companies. She also appears in NYC at a myriad of performance venues, including a weekly residency as host of “Lights out on Broadway” in Times Square. This curated open mic has featured a plethora of Broadway performers and recording artists and has become a NYC nightlife hot spot. We introduce the extremely talented and the next young actor on the scene, Denis Shepard. Denis will be starring in the much anticipated Paramount new series, "PARADISE LOST,” starring Josh Hartnett Bridget Regan, Nick Nolte and others. Denis plays the younger Josh Hartnett, “Yates Forsythe,” who has a storyline that is incredibly complex, challenging and you have to pay very close attention or you will miss some key points. “Yates Forsythe,” is mysterious with many different plots and twists to his character and role, but there is a point in the series where everything comes together, especially with Josh (adult role) and Denis character (Younger Role). Denis has his own mystery as the younger “Yates Forsythe," each scene has a piece to a puzzle everyone is trying to figure out, including the childhood of Denis and Josh’s character. Paradise Lost is premiering on April 13th. 2020, you can first catch it On Demand with Spectrum TV and then it airs on the Paramount Network. Paradise Lost is a new series where a man (Josh Hartnett) moves back to Mississippi from California with his psychiatrist, partner only to uncover some shameful secrets that irrevocably change the lives of everyone involved. This includes going back into your own childhood for answers, discovering secrets and unblocking those memories you need to understand certain situations in his now adult life. It’s a very complex, but compelling series that is full of many twist and turns, but challenges you to go deep and figure out why things are the way they are, at that moment. Denis also has regular appearances on the Jimmy Tatro Youtube Series with over 3 Million subscribers and has been involved with a handful of National commercials like, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Panera, Nissan, Volvoline, Samsung, LA Tourismand others. Born and raised in Chatsworth, CA, Denis, a twin, who is a minute older than him, is 1 of 14 grand kids who moved to CA from NYC in the 1950’s and started a very successful egg ranch and brand called, Trafficanda Egg Ranch, where Denis still helps out to this day. He studied Film and TV producing with a business minor at the University of Arizona and was a very successful athlete, played 5 different sports in high school. Denis has been working from the bottom to the top, working in casting offices, casting projects for everyone from Dave Myers, Katy Perry, Maroon 5 and Disney projects. Also with many directors and writers of successful shows and films like Death Becomes Her. He has also studied Mesiner Technique and has had 6 years of improve at Upright Citizens Brigade, where he also started writing, producing his own projects and started a reel editing service company for actors. With almost $2000 raised so far, they are already able to provide 200 meals for Northside Hospital Emergency Room, Piedmont Hospital workers, Atlanta Firefighters. Long story short we found a way and traveled with one suitcase using packing cubes. It changed how I packed and how we traveled as a family...and fueled my own passion and love for organizing! However, the majority of the packing cubes on the market were not aesthetically pleasing at a reasonable price point. My thought was, people pack their favorite clothes when they travel so why not bring this over to the packing experience and travel in your best style. Fast forward to now, we decided to design and share our packing cubes, adding a few enhancements with a selection of fun and vibrant colors.
