With the ever increasing complications that come with this modern day thing called relationships, it seems that most people simply don't want to get married to anyone even when they proclaim that they do verbally. It seems that these days the institution of marriage and the traditional structure of family is a passing phenomenon in a world of ever increasing dysfunctional situations. We have extended families were the core original family has been severely altered. We have relationships that are placed on top of situations without closure and raw wounds still unhealed. How can we merely pick ourselves up to swiftly dust ourselves off to join onto someone else without bringing the old emotional unfinished baggage into the new union? It becomes a compounded mess when you consider that it may not have been too long for that new person to have gotten over the situation that they recently came out of. We seem to change "significant others" as rapidly as we change the shirts on our back. We do not take the time to get to know our mates in an slow and sure manner as it appears that we want those gaps of mandatory and very much of a healing state called being alone to become a long term state in our lives. Being alone is not the same as being lonely, yet we confuse the two and seem to get ourselves into a world of trouble from the extreme drama of taking someone new into our lives without the waiting period that ensures the union between the both of you is a sound and thorough fit. This is a situation in families that is not as uncommon as you might think! Don't be thrown off by the focus of this show topic because of the title, I am not attempting to allude to any incestual connection between a daughter and her Father on a physical level. That's tragic enough. I'm speaking of the power plays within a household where the daughter has somewhat replaced her Mother's position as the Wife in the family, snubbing her nose at her Mother every chance that she gets because of her power over her father. The young daughter in this household maintains an animosity toward her Mother whose origins are unknown. Aside from what seems like a brief moment in time when everything seemed to be going in the family just fine, it's almost as if the daughter always hated her Mother with a passion and appeared envious of the relationship that her Mother had with her Father. This couldn't happen all by itself as this young brat of a child is enabled without fail by a Father who soaks up the extra attention from his daughter that seems to be based on some type of revenge because of the time that the often busy Wife doesn't seem to give him anymore. But this present pseudo monster of an arrogant narcissistic brat that was once Daddy's Little Girl seems to pick up on the rift and divide between her parents to be able to fill the gaps in a very inappropriate way. She plays both parenst to get what she wants and makes sure that both of them are in a constant state of war over her rebellious ways as they simply cannot agree on the punishment that she should receive. The Mother feels that whatever her husband suggest is not hard enough and the Father feels that whatever she suggests is too harsh.

As I've gotten older I realize that things are not always what they're supposed to be. The Colgate smiles in a family portrait never reveal what feelings lie deep within the troubled soul of a person. We also expect age to bring maturity and wisdom and are shocked when we find that the graying hair and slowing steps of our Elders give no indication to the venom that they possess inside. Venom? Yes, venom.......like a child who spent the entire weekend playing around and not taking the task of completing their homework in a timely fashion, we have Mothers out here who've never absorbed the lessons of their youth or haven't come to the terms of being held accountable with the bad choices of their past and become envious of the clean slates that their daughters have as they prepare to pursue their dreams out in the world. .......and this is more common than one could think. So at showtime I want us to delve into the deeper reasons why a Mother could be so hateful in action while pretending to be so caring to their daughters who are emotionally and mentally devastated beyond measure. I also would like hear from those who have suffered through this type of dysfunctional treatment and how they've dealt with it to overcome or are still in the throes of pain seeking help from those who have defeated it. I'm looking forward to an evening of healing, embracing and support as we touch on a topic that most will never acknowledge out of denial. Hasn't it gone on too long?
