 KnitWit 171: Where are You? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:12:12

Looking around I find that most people who are around me aren’t there.  They seem to have gone elsewhere.  That is one of the great gift of humans to be able to remember, imagine, dream and plan.  But what are you missing by not being in the moment? What do you think? website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 170: Fair Isle | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:21:26

First an apology.  Sorry to have been gone for so long.  Between life, fun, and illness, I just haven’t had the motivation I needed to do a show.  You know I love doing the podcast.  Just haven’t felt well enough to get behind the mic. Today’s topic is Fair Isle or stranded knitting.  I couldn’t find much information on the history of the technique. Fair Isle is a color technique that uses 2 colors on each row.  The colors are chosen from 3 palettes of color.  The color that is not worked is stranded across the back. If the strand is too long then you will want to catch the yarn. This video, which is just a random video I found, shows the technique. Video Link The garments are made in the round and the knitting is cut for the arm holes and for making a cardigan. This is referred to as steeking. I use a tubular method of picking up stitches so that the cut stitches are enclosed. Best way to try this technique of knitting is to start small. I recommend a hat or a baby sweater. I know this was a bit jumbled. I hope it makes some sense and you feel encouraged to try something new. website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com plurk: AutumnBreeze ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 169: We are in Trouble | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:18:37

This is a rant.  Most definitely a rant. I have had it with my insurance company.  Things are seriously messed up in this country when it comes to healthcare and insurance. The US Census Burea reported 15.8% of the population uninsured in 2008. That number is on the rise. This number does not include the people who are under insured. Even those of us who have insurance have to fight to get the coverage that we are due. The coverage we are paying increasing more for. Something has to be done. website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 168: Testing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:20:59

This weeks show is a long and rambling one. I start with an explanation as to why I shared the personal details in the last show.   This is a topic that Jimmy Carter recently addressed in an option in this article.  He is much more elegant than I could dream of being.  Please, take a moment to read. I also apologize for missing last week.  My weekend seemed to be total derailed and I just lost the time. This week’s show I talk about being tested for learning disabilities.  It is a bit of a reminiscence of past and this week’s experiences. I would love to know what you think.  Your comments help keep me going. website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 167: Freedom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:10:51

Warning: this show is contains adult content. The Fourth of July has me thinking about the freedoms this country was founded on.  Freedom of Religion is a basic right.  It is a freedom that many think only applies to those who believe. Non-theist have the right to not believe just as much as the believer has the right to believe. Non-theist should not be persecuted for their believes. They should not be fired for their believes. What do you think? website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 165: Intarsia | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:14:37

I start the show with some sad news.  The turtle (KnitWit:159) didn’t make it.  He died last week.  They tried their best but in the end his injuries were too extensive. This week is a knitting espisode in which we continue talking about color techniques. Intarsia is a method of color knitting in which only one yarn is used at a time. There are three things you have to be able to do to inorder to do intarsia knitting. 1. Read charts. 2. Untangle yarn 3. Lock your yarns in place. There is a contraversy concerning intarsia in the round.  It can be done.  I learned how from this book: Knitting Tips & Trade Secrets. It is a great book with all kinds of wonderful information. I am still working on my super, secret project.  There is time to help if you can spare some time and yarn.  Contact me and I will fill you in on the details. email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze Thanks.  KnitWit 164: Project Deadlines | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:13:42

I am starting on a super, secret project.  There is a person, I think needs a fiber hug.  If you would like to help, let me know and I will fill you in on the details. This week I rant a little about projects and project deadlines.  It seems that the people who set the deadlines rarely know what is involved with completing the projects. Have you ever had these kinds of problems? website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Facebook: Carry Croghan.  KnitWit 163: Talk to Me | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:08:36

People talk to me.  They tell me their secrets, hopes, and fears.  They share their worries and problems.  I don’t know why. I thought it was normal.  I guess not. What do you think?  Do people talk to you? website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 162: Einstein | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:07:33

I am still in mourning over the loss of Einstein.  Instead of doing a new show, I replay a very old episode: knitwit 4: Love at First Sight where I talk about meeting Einstein. I hope to be able to record a new show for next week. If you want to reach me, there are several ways. website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Carry

 KnitWit 161: I’m Still Here | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:08:47

Just a quick show to check in and let you know I am alive.  Things have been rather rough; I have a very sick bunny.  All my energy has been going to him. He is fighting off a parasite that has crippled his hind quarters. Because of his situation, I am not sure whether I will be going to Maryland next week.  If I do go, there is a good chance Einstein will be going with me. Thanks for your understanding.

 KnitWit 160: Slip Stitch Knitting | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:11:53

No new news on the turtle.  If I hear anything, I will let you know. I am going to be doing a show in Wilmington this next weekend.  I may be late with the show next week. This week I talk about slip stitch knitting.  It is an easy way to add more complex color work to your knitting by knitting strips and slipping stitches. There are several great books on the topic including Barbara Walker’s Mosaic Knitting and Roxana Bartlett’s Slip-Stitch Knitting: Color Pattern the Easy Way If you have any questions or comments let me know. website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 159: Friday | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:13:47

I have had this week’s show planned for months.  You know what they say about best laid plans… Instead of doing the planned story, I am going to tell you about my Friday. I learned about an organization, Piedmont Wildlife Center, that I think rocks.  I encourage you to find and support any similar organization that exists in your area. This story is still unfolding.  As I learn more I will post updates on the website and in rav. website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks.  KnitWit 158: To Sleep Perchance to Dream | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:09:18

Thank you for your kind words concerning last weeks show.  I can’t begin to tell you how much it means to me. On Friday, I went to an open mic at a local place.  I told a longer version of the Flat Tire story.  It went well. I have been having problems sleeping.  My doctor has given me some drugs to help.  I am waking refreshed but having some very weird dreams.  This week I share one of my recent ones. What do you think? website: autumnbreezedesigns.com email: carry.autumnbreeze@gmail.com ravelry: autumnbreeze ravelry forum: KnitWit:Rantings of a Rabid Knitter Forum Thanks. Carry approx. 9 minutes
