On tonigt's show we will be discussing, stillbirth, and fetal demise.  These unexpected outcomes are rare but do happen. Have you been faced with a loss? Do you know someone who has. What do you say, and more importantly what do you not say to a woman (family) who has experienced or will experience this overwhelming fact of life?  We will discuss different types of loss and the universal hopelessness that surrounds this topic. It will be hard but I am glad we are discussing this.  It's important for doulas and care providers to know what to do and say and advise.

Dr. Markel's philosophy of natural parenting empowers mothers to trust in their maternal instincts, and consider themselves the "experts" in raising their own children. By espousing "mindful parenting", she has allowed mothers to acknowledge and celebrate the joy of parenting.  We will be discussing Breastfeeding, bedsharing, vaccines, unnecessary proceedure immediately following birth and much more.

Show # 6 in our 8 week series spotlighting Attachment Parenting is PROVIDE, CONSISTENT LOVING CARE. My guest is Dr. Isabelle Fox. Dr. Fox is the author of Being There:  The Benefits of a Stay-at-home-Parent.  She has degrees from Radcliffe College and University of California Los Angeles and has been a Clinical Psychotherapist specializing in Child Development for over 30 years.  She is also an Associate at the Western Psychological Center in Encino, California.  She is also the author of From Diapers to Diplomas and Goodbye Diapers, Goodbye Bottle, Goodbye Blanket.  She has three children and seven grandchildren and was a Stay-At-Home Parent for 10 years.  Babies and young children have an intense need for the physical presence of a consistent, loving, responsive caregiver: ideally a parent. Daily care and playful, loving interactions build strong bonds. By providing consistent, loving care from early infancy, parents strengthen their relationship with their child and build a healthy attachment. If neither parent can be a full-time caregiver, then a child needs someone who is not only consistent and loving, but has formed a bond with them and consciously provides care in a way that strengthens the attachment relationship.

API WEEKS Principle 5 Ensure Safe Sleep | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:31:00

Our topic is about sleep."Is your baby sleeping through the night yet?" is often the first question people ask a new parent. The truth is that most babies do not sleep through the night, yet it is a myth that is perpetuated from generation to generation. Babies have needs at night just as they do during the day; from hunger, loneliness, and fear, to feeling too cold or too hot. They need the reassurance of a loving parent to feel secure during the night. Join me as I discuss the topics of co sleeping, bed-sharing and the myth of sleep training. Later in the show I will be joined by Bill and Martha Sears. After raising eight children and practicing pediatric medicine for more than 30 years, they have answered questions from thousands of parents. Millions more have sought their advice through their 40+ pediatric books, articles in parenting magazines, and our appearances on more than 100 television programs such as 20/20, Donahue, Good Morning America, Oprah, CBS This Morning, CNN, NBC's Today Show and Dateline.
