This was an interesting Threadcast - where we asked listeners the following: Now I know the "PC" response is already going to be "women dont need a protector to attend events in Ontario" - and to be honest, that IS mainly my opinion too - but not for the PC reasons - I believe in accountability and that we have a fairly decent community; BUT - I was asked yesterday about my opinion of protectors. Being the curious (nosy) person I am; I asked a follow-up question of WHY did the person feel they needed a protector,,, and to be honest she had a damn good answer. I would like to hear peoples opinions about protectors - but I ask that you look at BOTH sides,, pro's as well as cons. Why YOU dont feel YOU need a protector, as well as why YOU may feel you might. Lets make this a constructive, positive, as well as an educational discussion. That being said; I have also (as a long time Organizer) heard several horror stories from Newbies who plan NEVER to come out to the Community - because they have been frightened by "reverse predators" who tried to get them to accept them in the quasi power exchange of "protector", by feeding them horror stories that all Dominants were predators and the only way they could go to events is to go under their "protection". To me - this is a separate topic (and I would like your responses split from the main topic), and is a form of non-consensual abuse/predator behaviour. Lastly,,, have YOU ever acted in this position?
